Chapter 10: A Normal Afternoon
It's been a few hours since Anya talked to Husk and he promised not to tell her secret to anyone was lying on the lounge floor, drawing on papers, until a thought alerted her to someone entering at that very moment.
"What are you drawing so much there, child?" -the voice asked, making the little girl look up and jump and back away when she realized it was Alastor.
"Well, why are you so scared, child? I haven't even done anything to you yet. Why have you been acting like this to me since yesterday, huh?" - he asked, slightly surprised by Anya's reaction.
Anya could see in his thoughts that he was actually having fun with her being afraid of him, even without any reason.
"What does Sir. Alastor want?" - the little girl asked, trying to remain could see the Radio Demon staring at her for a few seconds as he thought about her and how she could have ended up here in Hell.
"You know, I'm just curious about you, child. No other mortal human has ever entered this place except after they died. How did you end up here in the first place?" - he asked.
Anya was surprised by Alastor's question about how she ended up here. She then began to mumble. - "Hmm, Anya isn't sure. Anya remembers being at the orphanage, and then Anya went out into the forest and then, Anya woke up here." - she had to hide the main detail that she had followed a light that led her to a cave and entered a portal inside.
She watched as the Radio Demon still stared at her silently, but still smiling. The child began to feel chills on her body, fearing that he wanted to kill her right there. And to her surprise, Alastor then replied:
"I see. You don't want to tell me the truth. But that's okay, it's not like I want to go back to the world of the living or anything. I was just curious about how you ended up here, that's all."
This shocked the little girl even more, because even though she tried to keep a poker face, Alastor still found a way to find out that she was hiding things and lying.
"Can Sir. Alastor read people or something?" - she asked, curious and scared.- "Not necessarily, girl. But I can tell by your reaction that you're lying. And know that I hate liars, kid." - he replied, static appearing at the end of his sentence.
Anya flinched again, feeling her soul briefly leave her body. Moments later, the Radio Demon returned to normal, smiling in a friendly manner. - "Just kidding, girl. No need to be so scared. I can wait when you want to tell me more details of your own free will. Well, I have business to attend to, so have a good afternoon, dear."
With that, he turned and walked away, humming a song, leaving the little child still disturbed by their brief dialogue.
After regaining her senses, Anya decided to collect the papers and go somewhere else, where no one would come to terrorize her again after this.
She thought about going to her room, but then she remembered something: Niffty would be cleaning it at that time. So, she started walking down the hallway, until she saw the door to Angel Dust's room again.
And then, she remembered that Dust had given her permission to enter his room whenever she wanted, even in his absence. And she could still stay in the company of the little pig.
Anya then put her hand on the doorknob and opened the door. As soon as she entered and closed the door, she was greeted by Fat Nuggets, who walked up to her.
"Hey, Nuggsie. How are you?" - she greeted him, as she bent down, put her papers on the floor and hugged him as soon as he approached her.
The child began to read his thoughts, asking about Dust and her visit. - "Mr. Dust said that Anya could come here whenever Anya wanted, even in Mr. Dust's absence." -she explained, as she picked her papers back up from the floor.
Nuggets showed excitement about this and began to guide the girl to Angel Dust's bed, showing that it was the most comfortable place to be, especially next to first helped him onto the bed and then climbed up.
"Wow, you were right, Nuggsie. It's really comfortable." - she declared, feeling the softness of the blanket.
She then heard Fat Nuggets reveal that Angel Dust had even packed and put away his things just last night. According to what he heard from the spider, he wanted Anya to not see certain things of his when she came here in his absence.
This made the little girl curious. What kinds of things were in the room that Angel Dust didn't want her to see? She thought that maybe if she could explore the room and find some of these things, she could get to know Angel better.
"How about we try to find some of those things, like a game, Nuggsie?" - she suggested. Fat Nuggets nodded in agreement, and they both began to search the room, trying to avoid making things too messy.
At one point, Anya realized that Dust also had wigs. She thought it was cool, but decided not to touch both continued searching, until Nuggets dragged a magazine from under the bed and grunted to get Anya's attention.
The girl walked over to him and picked up the magazine, and began to read a few pages. And to her surprise, the content inside was somewhat... revealing, if you can say so.
Anya then put the magazine away in one of the vanity drawers and returned to Nuggets, with a somewhat shocked expression and commented. - "Anya prefers never to comment on what Anya just saw."
At least, that answered what kind of things Angel Dust had hidden from her, or at least, tried to hide from her around the room.
Wanting to forget what she saw, Anya had an idea. She ran back to the bed and picked up her papers and placed them on the floor.
"How about we draw a little, Nuggsie? You tell your memories and stories and Anya draws them." -the child suggested, followed by Fat Nuggets' nod. And with that, she began to trace on paper one of the stories he was telling her at that moment.
Charlie searched the hotel for Anya, worried about where the child could be. Luckily to her, Niffty came to her, saying she had found her.
Following her, the princess came across Anya sleeping on the bed in Angel Dust's room next to Fat Nuggets, with many of her drawn paper sheets scattered across the floor.
Niffty would have been annoyed by the mess, if it weren't for the fact that the scene in front of them being so cute. She quickly took a picture, before going in and collecting the papers and organizing them on top of the vanity, while Charlie went to wake the little girl up.
"Hey, Anya. Wake up, it's time for dinner, dear. We'll have a different dish today." - she murmured, seeing Anya open her eyes, and look at her.
"Miss Charlie? What time..." - she tried to form sentences, but not even she knew what she was saying. The princess simply picked her up and left the room, with the little cyclops following close behind.
"What's for dinner, Miss Charlie?" - the child asked, waking up more. - "Well, I have to warn you. Today it was Alastor who made dinner, so I recommend not to upset him, okay?" - Charlie murmured, feeling Anya stiffen in her arms, hearing this name again.
Two things surprised Anya about that dinner: the first was that Alastor could cook, and the second was that he ate raw meat. She felt like she couldn't look at meat on a plate for a long time. But she had to admit, the dish he cooked was delicious, a little spicy for her, but delicious.
As soon as she finished eating, she prepared to leave the table, when she heard Alastor's thought, which terrified her deeply.
"Hey, girl. I'd like to talk to you before you go to bed."
Anya slowly looked back, a terrified look on her face. To her shock, Alastor had shifted his neck back to look directly at her, as a dark, static aura enveloped him.
"As soon as you take your shower, I want to meet you in the hallway, so we can go talk in my room, understand?"
After reading this train of thought, the girl looked forward again,wide-eyed. What the hell happened?! Did the Radio Demon communicate with her telepathically or did he declare it in his mind, knowing that she would hear it.
Wait, did that mean Alastor knew she was a mind reader?! But how, if she never let it show? And she was pretty sure Husk hadn't revealed it to him either, since he had promised not to tell anyone about it.
She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts so she wouldn't get dizzy from all of this. Regardless of the circumstances, she had a little meeting with Alastor in his room. She was afraid of what he would want with her, but she tried to stay calm so as not to let her thoughts cloud her judgment at that exactly moment.
