Sonic ran across the ruined Palmtree Panic Zone, nothing but rage in his mind for what Robotnik had done to Little Planet. He was going so fast in fact that he didn't even notice when he passed a sign post. Once he arrived in the present, he continued running until he reached an unusual mechanized forest with pink grass and blue mechanical trees. The hedgehog looked around in surprise and said to himself,

"Whoa…weird…"

As Sonic continued running across the strange landscape, he suddenly bumped into an unknown object and fell over. Once he stood up, he saw that it wasn't an object, it was Amy. shocked, Sonic yelled,

"Amy?!"

Once Amy got to her feet, she was equally shocked and yelled,

"SONIC?!"

After the two finished pointing at each other, Amy yelled at her blue compatriot,

"Where have you been?! You just vanished and I've been looking all over for you!!!"

After taking a moment to recollect himself, Sonic suddenly became serious and told Amy,

"Listen, Amy. This place isn't normal. Time doesn't work normally here. You need to leave now!"

The pink hedgehog was confused by this and asked her blue counterpart why, but before he could answer, he was suddenly taken off guard by a strange noise coming from the tunnel behind her. The entrance was unfortunately blocked off with spikes, so he couldn't actually see what was making the noise. The heroic blue hedgehog wondered out loud to himself,

"What the heck?"

Before Amy could question what he was talking about, a dark blue blur suddenly shot out from the spikes behind her faster than Sonic could warn her. The pink hedgehog was grabbed by both hands and lifted into the air, and once Sonic got a good look at who did it, he was shocked. It was a robot version…of him.

It was a dark blue color and had two metallic quills on the back of it's head, silver colored metallic arms and shoulder guards, dark blue forearms and lower legs, red feet with white stripes, a yellow circular depression with a black center, and piercing red eyes. The same floating TV from before, albeit a more primitive version, then floated up beside the robot Sonic and displayed one of the Dr Robotniks. The mad doctor then said to his nemesis,

"Ah, Sonic. I see you've met Metal Sonic. Would this happen to be your girlfriend by any chance?"

Sonic did a double take at this question and replied,

"What-NO!!! I barely know her!!!"

"I see…no matter. You hero types just can't resist saving a damsel in distress, can you? Meet me in the Stardust Speedway zone. There, Metal Sonic will be waiting to battle you and ultimately destroy you. I look forward to seeing it. Ta ta!"

Metal Sonic then flew away, Amy crying out for Sonic. Said blue hedgehog then instinctively curled up into a ball and shot down the tunnel Metal had come from. Unfortunately, by the time Sonic emerged Metal was already long gone. An angered Sonic then muttered,

"Great. Not only do I have to stop Robotnik, but now I have to save Amy as well!"

Despite his anger, Sonic quickly set his eyes back on the prize, wondering what to do next. He thought back to the time travel sign posts he had seen and used. After a few seconds of contemplating them, the hedgehog hero's eyes lit up as he snapped his fingers and said,

"Maybe the answers I need are in the past! Something must be making Buttnik's bots. Better find it!"

Sonic then burst off in search for a past sign post, eventually finding one after a few minutes of searching. Remembering how he had time travelled previously, the young hedgehog whirled up his legs and shot off from beside it. Sure enough, Sonic was quickly jettisoned into the past and was greeted with yet another prehistoric looking landscape.

However, unlike the last landscape, there were many structures under construction. These were what would eventually become the obstacles in the present day. In addition, the forest was still green and there were now floating rocky platforms and yellow prehistoric plants with oddly shaped leaves and patterns.

Sonic took a second to admire the landscape before flicking his thumb across his nose and saying,

"Alright, gotta find this generator!"

The hedgehog began running and searched for the robot generator. There weren't any robots that he could see, just like before. That made things a lot easier. After searching all over the area, Sonic ran up a hill and ran up the side of a loop, perching on top of it. Looking forward, he saw a large machine with two silver "shells" with yellow black and red stripes which were divided by 3 columns of electricity.

Upon seeing the strange object, Sonic wondered out loud,

"Could it be…? Yeah! That must be the robot generator!"

The blue hedgehog quickly began revving up his feet in a figure 8 formation, blue energy cycling around them. This was what Sonic called the Super Peel Out. After a few seconds he burst off like a rocket, leaping into the air and curling into a ball, leaving a trail of blue light behind him. With a resounding bang, he crashed into the robot generator, smashing it to pieces.

Once he uncurled himself, the hedgehog took a second to admire his handiwork. Smirking, he said to the machine,

"Gotcha. Wonder if this'll change anything."

Sonic then began running in the other direction, making his way across this past area. After a few minutes, he came across what looked like Metal Sonic stomping on an innocent Mobuni rabbit. Acting on protective instincts, he curled up into a ball and attempted to use another spindash on his metal duplicate. However, he simply ended up going through it and destroying a hologram generator at the back of it.

Upon uncurling, Sonic saw this and said to himself,

"A hologram, huh?"

He then noticed the actual Mobuni nearby and told them,

"Don't worry, little animals. It's destroyed now."

Sonic then set off once again and he managed to find yet another giant ring. Remembering what happened last time, the hedgehog jumped in and vanished in a flash of light. Once he appeared in the new special stage, he immediately started the challenge. This time the challenges were a bit harder, but nothing the hedgehog hero couldn't handle. Once he cleared them, a red time stone descended into his hands. Sonic smirked and said,

"Got another one of these things!"

As everything began to go white, this time the hedgehog was prepared and said,

"Well, back to the future!"

Once the light cleared, Sonic was back in the area he had been before, but this time it was turquoise colored and tranquill. There were also futuristic and natural plants littering the area as well as crisp and clean waters, making the whole area very pleasing. Sonic smiled upon seeing this and said to himself,

"This place…it's actually kind of nice."

As he prepared to continue moving, a legion of badniks suddenly emerged from underground, surrounding Sonic in a circular formation. Sonic prepared to leap into the air in order to fight them, but another figure suddenly emerged from the ground. Said figure leaped out and began smashing all of the badniks to pieces with his fists, them unable to do anything. Once he was done, he stood up and turned to Sonic, revealing himself to be Knuckles the Echidna.

Sonic was surprised by this, but smirked and told his friend,

"Took you long enough, Knucks."

Knuckles seriously responded,

"Well, we can't all be as fast as you?"

"Hey, shouldn't you be leading the fight in front of Little Planet?"

"We managed to pierce through Robotnik's defenses and're fighting through the Badniks stationed around the planet as we speak. The Chaotix are leading the scattered parts of our army while I take the fight to Robotnik himself. Speaking which, what's been happening with you?"

Sonic then explained everything he had gone through and learned to Knuckles, who wasn't very enthused at what he heard. Once Sonic was done explaining, the Echidna asked him,

"So there's a robot version of you now, huh?"

"Yup. I'll give Ol' Robuttnik this, he certainly knows how to design a good looking robot."

Knuckles sighed at this, remarking,

"Great, just what we need: Two egomaniacs. Just one of you is hard enough to deal with."

Sonic simply smirked at this comment and replied by telling Knuckles,

"Heh. tell ya what: Whoever gets to ol' Robuttnik first gets the honor of giving him a good wallop. That sound good?"

Knuckles thought about it for a minute before smiling and replying,

"Alright, you're on!"

Sonic then laughed and got into a running stance, running off while Knuckles ran after him. The echidna clearly couldn't keep up with his speedy friend, but Sonic was going easy on him so that he could keep up. Eventually, the two stumbled upon Robotnik in his floating pod. Sonic smirked and told him,

"Oi, Eggman! Long time no see! Or I guess it's not that long for you, huh?"

Robotnik was taken aback by the new nickname and yelled,

"EGGMAN?! HOW DARE YOU?! DIE, YOU ACCURSED RODE-!!!"

Before Robotnik could finish his threat, Knuckles yelled at him,

"Robotnik! You're going to pay for what you did!!!"

The echidna then ran at the mad doctor and leaped up, attempting to punch him in the face. However, he was knocked back by a metallic palm. As he skidded across the ground, a startled Sonic looked up at the attacker and was shocked by who he saw. It was a terrifyingly familiar metallic female hedgehog with a tuft of metallic pink hair.

Once Knuckles got up, he was just as shocked. The two said at the same time,

"Sonia...?"

Robotnik cackled at the two mobians confusion and horror and proclaimed,

"That's right, fools! How perfect that your ends will be brought upon by someone you both loved so dearly! At the hands…of METAL SONIA!!!"
