Chapter 31: Finals

"And with that said, I have an announcement," Nezu said, "Starting today, we have a new student from America joining our school. Melissa Shield. She was selected by All Might himself to be part of the support course program. But for all we know, she could possibly amaze us with a surprise of her own. That will be all."

After announcements were made, everyone went back to their classes. Class 1A was listening to another lecture from Aizawa.

"Before you all go, you should all know that finals are coming up," Aizawa said, "I hope you've all been paying attention."

Some students were a bit worried.

"However, should you pass, you'll be joining a training camp to get you all ready for the license exam," Aizawa continued, "Those who fail will spend time in remedial classes."

"I've barely even taken notes this semester!" Kaminari and Mina said.

Both of them said it in different tones. Kaminari was worried while Mina was hopelessly laughing.

"Ooh, if it helps I can help you guys prepare," Momo said.

"You're the best Yaomomo!" they said in unison.

"And I can help with the physical portion," Kenshi said.

"Jojo you're a saint!" Kaminari said.

"I wouldn't say that," Kenshi said.

"Izu will you help me study?" Ochako asked.

"Of course Mochi," Izuku said.

Eri looked at the two.

"Daddy and Mommy are flirting," she said.

"Yes they are," Mina said.

Later on, Momo and Kenshi were coming up with ideas to help each other help the others with studying. Momo suddenly had an idea. Kenshi knew that look.

"No. Nooooo, I know that look!" Kenshi said, "That's the look I get when I have a strategy for a hard level, and now you have that look because you have a plan."

"Kenshi, this plan is foolproof and it'll work!" Momo said with a huge smile, "It'll involve all of us."

Kenshi sighed.

"Ok, I can't stop you from thinking of ideas, but promise me you'll at least sleep on it before you jump into an idea."

"Ok... I won't try anything," Momo said, still keeping that smile.

The next morning, Kenshi was up making breakfast for the class, and getting himself some coffee.

"Just call me angel of the morning angel, just touch my cheek before you leave me baby…"

As he was singing he was unaware that Momo was behind him smiling wildly, wearing one of his shirts.

"I'm making breakfast for my classmates angel, and I've been drinking my coffee in the morning ba-"

"GOOD MORNING KENSHI!" Momo shouted.

Kenshi jumped and almost spilled his coffee. He turned to see Momo and was unamused.

"...Momo…. You didn't sleep on it."

"Not a wink!" Momo said, as she looked wide awake.

"And you probably have a crazy idea," Kenshi said.

"And yes I do," Momo answered.

"And that's probably my favorite shirt you're wearing," Kenshi said.

"And yes it is, anyway, back to the topic at hand, I figured, all of us can have a study session at my residence over the weekend," Momo said, "I already called Mother and asked her to prepare the great hall for us to set up and everything!"

"That actually sounds like a good strategy," Kenshi said.

Later on, Momo told a few students about the study session she was hosting at her house. Of course Kenshi was gonna join in to help with that, and with snacks. Kaminari, Mina, Jiro, Sero, and Ojiro were walking over to Momo's mansion. Mina pressed a button.

"I've been waiting for you everyone!" Momo said over the intercom, "Please come in."

The gates opened and everyone walked in. Later on everyone was in the great hall.

"I could not feel more out of place right now," Sero said.

"Same here," Mina said.

Momo came by with a few snacks.

"Is something wrong?" she asked.

"No, everything's perfect," Everyone answered in unison.

Kenshi and Izuku were taking a walk around the park. Kenshi noticed a boy making some kind of drawing. He took a look at it and recognized it was a drawing of a hero.

"Isn't that... Edgeshot?" Kenshi asked.

"Yea, he's my favorite hero!" the kid said.

Kenshi turned around to see the kid. He had a black t-shirt on, and jean shorts. He also had a Water Hose pin on his head.

"The Water Hose Duo?" Kenshi asked.

"Yea, they're my favorite heroes," the kid said.

"You sure know your stuff," Kenshi said as he bent down, "I'm actually training to be a hero myself. My name's Kenshi. Yours?"

"Kota," Kota said introducing himself, "I'm actually waiting for a hero myself. A hero to... to make my guardian stop being abu-"

"What's going on out here?" asked someone.

Everyone turned to see a grown man in his late 30s glaring at the three. This was Kota's 'guardian.'

"Nothing we-" Kenshi said but was interrupted.

"You don't need to be here. Now beat it," the man said.

"Bye," Kota said.

The teens left. Kota's guardian glared at Kota, then pointed in the house, telling him to get inside. Back at the dorms, Kenshi was looking outside, thinking about that kid he met.

"Everything ok?" Momo asked.

"Sorry, I was just thinking about that kid I met earlier," Kenshi answered, "That person. I can't believe he's Kota's guardian."

"Kota? What's a Kota?" Katsuki asked.

"Not 'a' Kota. Kota," Kenshi said.

"That kid we met while going to the store," Izuku said.

"I barely even know him and yet…. I feel like he needs my help," Kenshi said.

Over the next few days, Kenshi and Momo continued their preparations for the finals. One day Momo would tutor them with lectures, and other days, Kenshi would drill combat procedures into them at his place in the virtual world. Some days he would secretly visit Kota and give him hero merchandise to keep his spirit in heroes alive.

Kenshi was walking by and heard some shouting. He went by the same house that Kota lived in and heard some noises. One thing that set him over the edge was the sound of a slap, and Kota crying.

"Just wait!" Kota said, "A hero will come and stop you! They'll make you stop beating me!"

"You ain't seeing anybody!" Nen said as he kicked Kota down the stairs, "I'll make sure of that! Heroes are nothing more than posers who want stardom! One way or another I'll make you learn!"

Kenshi jumped through the window and landed on his feet. Kota saw him.

"Its you..." he said.

Kota looked at his face and noticed a scar on it. It was from one time when Kenshi's 'father' beat him.

"Did someone beat you too?" Kota asked.

Kenshi nodded.

"That's not important right now," he said, "Are you ok?"

"What the hell?!" Nen asked.

He saw Kenshi talking to Kota. Kenshi turned to Nen and shot him a glare.

"What the hell are you doing here?!" Nen asked, "You have no right to be here! You hear me?! NO RIGHT!"

Kenshi simply socked Nen in the face, then threw him outside. When he got up, he was faced with a few policemen, who had gotten the report that Kenshi had filed. Later on, everyone was at the police station.

"This man beat this child" Kenshi said, "For no reason. I could've torn him apart if I wanted to."

"Yet you chose not to," Momo said, "And that's a good thing."

"Excuse me, Mr Hero" Kota said, "Thank you for saving me."

"No problem, but I'm not a hero yet, just a hero in training," Kenshi said, "Like I said before, just call me Kenshi."

"Ken... Ke... Kens..." Kota said, trying to pronounce his name.

"It's ok Kota, just call me what's easiest for you," Kenshi said.

Kota looked at him and thought for a moment.

"Then... Then could I call you Dad?"

"D-Dad?!" Kenshi said, not sure how to respond.

Kenshi was stunned for a minute. He composed himself and nodded. He had the chance to be the father that he wish he had.

"If you really want to." Kenshi said with a smile as he patted his head.

Kota then turned to Momo.

"So…. Could I call you Mom?"

Momo had tears in her eyes and bent down smiling at the little boy.

"Yes Kota... I'm your mom..." Momo said.

"Same with me," Rumi said, "I'm your bunny mom. Could we hug you?"

Kota looked to Kenshi as if to ask for permission. Kenshi nodded his head. Kota then reached up, and Rumi picked him up, giving him a hug, Momo joining in. She then motioned for Kenshi to join in and hug them.

"Well this is a touching moment," Izuku said.

Back at UA, Melissa was delivering things to Heights Alliance with Hatsume. Hatsume noticed something sticking out of her pants pocket.

"What's this? A support item for Izuku, or is it something private?" Hatsume asked.

"Something for me," Melissa said, "I've been doing research on Uncle Might's glorious battles against villains, and it opened up some great opportunities," Melissa said.

"I see," Hatsume said.

"You might see it during the finals," Melissa said, showing her a diagram of it.

It was some kind of exo-skeleton designed to somehow imitate All Might's quirk.

"Whoa…. That's one amazing baby," Hatsume said.

Eri went over to Melissa who was sitting on the couch and climbed up to sit by her side.

"Oh hi there Eri," Melissa said, "How are you?"

"I'm good," Eri said, "Ms Melissa can I ask you a question?"

"You just did," Melissa said with a slight giggle, being a smart ass while chuckling at her joke with Eri not looking too amused.

"Alright, alright. Ask away."

"Do you like my daddy?"

Melissa spat out her drink in surprise, some of it landing on Kaminari who went into jamming yay mode, making Jiro laugh.

"What?!" Melissa asked, "I mean…. Well….. I…. He is nice and all, but he's off the market, with two girls."

"But I hear you talking about him all the time," Eri said, "Even Mommy and Mama notice it. And that noodle haired bimbo."

"Wait, where did you hear that word?" Melissa asked.

"The point is, you should tell him," Eri said, "Auntie Momo read me a bedtime story where one of the characters had a similar scenario, and she decided to take her chance instead of waiting too long. You deserve your happy ending too."

"But... he's with your mommy and mama," Melissa said, "I'd just be in the way. I do have feelings for him. He inspired me to keep going, and told me I could be a great inventor like my father. But just being by his side is enough to satisfy me."

"I know, and I'm happy for them, but I want you to be happy too," Eri said, "I'm sure Daddy, Mommy, and Mama would accept you, and I'd be happy to call you mom."

Eri then kissed Melissa on the forehead and smiled before saying, "You deserve happiness like everyone else I care about."

This tender moment was so sweet and adorable that even the authors started crying.

Melissa had tears in her eyes before she scooped up Eri into a hug.

"Thank you Eri, you don't know how much this means to me," Melissa said, "Alright. I'll tell him after the finals. But first, I have a project to finish up."

She pulled out the schematics for her new suit and got busy.
