EngNor: Food Poisoning
Arthur's eyes opened as horrible sounds echoed through the room. It took a few seconds for him to recognise the sounds. He turned to Lukas's side of the bed, but as he'd predicted, Lukas wasn't there. Arthur clenched his eyes shut before he stood from his bed and made his way to the bathroom. Lukas was in front of the toilet, dry-heaving. He didn't have anything left in his stomach, but his body still wanted to purge.
"I thought you were better," Arthur said.
"I-I thought so… too," Lukas said, before he coughed. Once he stopped coughing, he whimpered.
Arthur knelt down next to Lukas and started stroking his back. Lukas retched again before he sat back.
"I am never eating seafood at a restaurant again," Lukas said. "Why are you still okay?"
"I've got a strong stomach," Arthur said.
If Lukas was feeling well, Arthur knew that he probably would have made a jab at Arthur's cooking, but he didn't. He shivered as his body lurched forward again, his body not satisfied that there was nothing left to purge.
"I'll make you some ginger tea," Arthur said. "Hopefully, it'll help."
He hated to see Lukas like that, especially since it was because of Arthur. Arthur had insisted on Lukas joining them on his work function, and now Lukas was paying the price.
So, I've been sick this week, but not with food poisoning, like poor Lukas. However, South Africa has been plagued with food poisoning for the last few weeks, which caused a few fatalities, particularly among children. Investigations have determined that the origins are spaza shops, which have less regulations than supermarkets. If you'd like to learn more, just google 'spaza shop'. It should give you a good idea of how bad the situation is.
And yeah, the chapter is late because I was sick.
