Goka's eyes flickered open, and she looked around. It looked like it was nighttime, and she was laying on a couch. She then looked down and saw her newborn son sleeping on her breasts. She smiled and stroked his head, the baby letting out the most adorable little coo. Goka giggled at this and began rocking the boy back and forth.
She then tried to get up, but winced as she immediately fell back on the couch. She still couldn't use her legs because of the birth process, and she pouted at this. Not wanting to spend any more time sitting around, she hovered outside, making sure not to alert anyone sleeping. She then silently called out,
"Nimbus!"
The yellow cloud then flew down in front of Goka, who quickly leaped on it, still carrying Gohan. After she sat down, Goka asked her cloud,
"Take me to Korin, will ya?"
In response, Nimbus shot off at incredible speeds. Goka flinched a little and told the cloud,
"Slow down, you'll wake Gohan-chan!"
Unfortunately it was too late, as little Gohan woke up and began to cry in Goka's arms. Panicking, she attempted to calm the boy down by rocking him back and forth, but that didn't help. Goka frantically thought to herself,
'What do I do, what do I do?! Oh! Chi-Chi said that the best way to calm a baby down if it starts crying is to sing a lullaby-thing!'
She then thought back to while she was pregnant. During that time, she had been thinking of a lullaby to sing to the baby. She now had all the lyrics pretty much memorized, and she hoped that they would be enough to calm down the baby. Breathing in, she began singing.
"Stronger, stronger, start flapping your wings, come on now, faster, faster, start to run! Don't let doubt keep you from seeing the world cause you need confidence to soar!"
She began gently rocking Gohan back and forth, causing the baby to start calming down. Smiling at this, Goka continued singing.
"You must have courage in your heart to make it through, when times are tough and all you have is you. But if you have some faith, well then you won't stay grounded. Passion that you feel inside will give you your wiiiiings."
Before Goka could finish the last verse, they were already at the tower. Luckily Gohan had stopped crying, so Goka held him to her chest and stood up. At the tower were the Cat master Korin and the tubby samurai Yajirobe. She laughed and greeted the two, saying,
"Yo! Korin, Yajirobe! What's up!"
Korin turned to Goka and replied,
"Oh, Goka! Long time no see-wait, why are you holding a baby?"
Goka looked at Gohan and chuckled.
"It's…a long story."
Goka then explained everything to Korin and Yajirobe, leaving the 2 of them in shock. After Goka was done explaining, Korin said to her,
"Well, I'm sorry that all of that happened to you. But why are you here?"
"Oh! I almost forgot! My legs still hurt from giving birth, so can I have a senzu please?"
Korin thought about it for a moment, but then reached into his pouch and pulled out a senzu. They couldn't afford to wait months for Goka to heal when Piccolo could attack at any moment. He threw her the bean, and Goka eagerly ate it. She immediately felt energized and ecstatically said,
"Hahahaha! I feel better than ever! Thanks, Korin! See ya!"
Goka then told Nimbus,
"Alright, nimbus! Let's go home!"
The cloud then flew off, with Gohan laughing in Goka's arms. As soon as they arrived, Goka flew in through the window and said to nimbus,
"Thanks, nimbus! See ya later!"
The cloud then flew off, and Goka walked Gohan to his crib, placing him in it.
"Come on, go to sleep."
The baby kept making cooing noises, and Goka decided that she would take this chance to finish her lullaby.
"Stronger, stronger, start flapping your wings, come on now, faster, faster, start to run! Don't let doubt keep you from seeing the world cause you need confidence to soar!"
Gohan began giggling and Goka stroked his head, continuing to sing while doing so.
"You must have courage in your heart to make it through, when times are tough and all you have is you.
But if you have some faith, then you know you won't stay grounded.
Yes, your will to try will soon…give you new wings!
More, more, flap your wings strongly
Come on now, faster, faster, don't delay!
Keep going! Kick the ground and make your vow…you'll get to the sky someday!"
As soon as Goka finished, she smiled as she saw Gohan had fallen asleep. She kissed the baby on the forehead and told him,
"Good night, my little Gohan-chan."
She then walked to her bed and plopped down on it, drifting off into a peaceful sleep.
4 years later
Goka sat dejected and sad at the corner of her house. It had been 5 years since the 23rd tournament, and Goka was now uncharacteristically miserable. That was because since the day he was born, Goka had barely been able to see her own son. Shortly after his birth, Chi-Chi had begun taking him away from extended periods of time to teach him about boring book stuff.
When Goka had protested this, Chi-Chi would constantly bring up Goka's unrefined hillfolk upbringing and say that she wasn't equipped to raise a child. She would tell Goka that the only way for Gohan to be successful was to become a scholar, and Goka's battle craziness would just turn him into a brute like her. Chi-Chi's presence was so domineering that Goka had no choice but to agree or be kicked out of the house.
And so, Goka watched her son learn and grow from a distance. At the very least he seemed happy and wanted to be a scholar. But still, Goka was miserable at not being able to be with her son. Suddenly in the middle of her sulking, she heard a familiar voice call out,
"Oka-San!"
Goka turned around and saw the 4 year old Gohan running towards her. Smiling, she held out her arms and embraced him. She rubbed her hands through his long, spiky black hair, and the boy laughed, bringing joy into his mother's heart. Goka then asked him,
"So how are you? Why'd you come out here?"
"I heard you say that you were going to meet your friends! I wanna come with you!"
"...Are you sure? I don't think Chi-Chi would like that."
"I asked her and she said that I could come since I've finished a lot of my work! Pleeeeeassse?"
Goka stared blankly at Gohan for a moment before her face slowly began to form into a gleaming smile. Eventually she just couldn't contain her excitement as she cheered and held Gohan up, dancing around as she cheered and wooed, ecstatic that her baby was going to come with her to meet her friends. However, Gohan then shyly said,
"Um, Oka-San? Can you put me down?"
Goka jolted in surprise and replied,
"Oh! Sorry!"
The young woman giggled nervously before putting Gohan down and calling out,
"Nimbus!"
The yellow cloud flew down from the sky and in front of them. Amazed, Gohan asked Goka,
"Whoa, a flying cloud?!"
Goka nodded and replied,
"I've had this since I was 12 years old! Now hop on! Let's get going!"
Goka hopped on Nimbus and Gohan nervously crawled on. Goka then placed him on her lap and said to Nimbus,
"Next stop, Kame house!"
The cloud shot off at incredible speeds, leaving Mount Paozu in the dust. As the mother and son flew to their destination, Gohan noticed something about his mother. This was the happiest he had ever seen her. When he saw her, she was always so sad except for the brief moments he snuck out to talk to her.
But now she was practically radiating joyful energy, and that made Gohan happy. He loved seeing his mother happy and now he would get to meet her friends. And so, the 2 flew over the ocean towards Kame House, while unbeknownst to them, a mysterious space pod crashed into a farm…
Author's note: I'm gonna try to keep non-Goka scenes to a minimum, at least for now, since they'd all go like in canon. So Raditz's encounters with the Farmer with a Shotgun and Piccolo go the same way as in canon.
