That's it. They won. Now...well, now there's nothing left to do. Steve Cobs was dead. His problems...they were gone. Inanimate Insanity was over. OJ won season one. Cabby won season three. Suitcase won season two. He even stopped season two halfway just to get away from his problems. From...Steve Cobs. His system...it prompted him a return of his memory data. He...he didn't want it, but he had no choice. MePad told him he was 'temporarily out of service,' therefore, they had to return his Gemories. He didn't want them, but...you can't hide from your past.
"Hey," came a voice behind him. "You okay?" The voice belong to Cabby. The winner of season three. Despite not having legs, she moved around pretty well, even over small ledges. "Y-yeah, I'm fine," MePhone replied.
"Are you sure?" she checked.
"Yeah, I'm...okay," MePhone said. He turned to face her, forcing a smile onto his face. "See? I'm...I'm fine!"
Cabby raised her eyebrow. "Your act isn't fooling me, MePhone. You obviously don't want to talk about it, so I won't bother you about it." MePhone looked down. He's lying again. That's all he has done. He's run and lied. That's all he's good for. He...he created all of them. All of his contestants. The island. Everything. None of them are real.
"Are you going to attend MePad's funeral?" Cabby asked. MePhone looked away, then turned around. He didn't want to say no, MePad has been a friend to him, but...he can't lie again. He's already lied in the first sentence to Cabby. "I..." MePhone said.
"I get it," Cabby said. "It's moving too fast for you." MePhone stayed silent. "We're dedicating the new hotel to MePad."
"That's...that's very kind of you," MePhone said. "I'm sure he'd appreciate that."
"We all thought so," Cabby said. She rubber her arm. "Are you...leaving?"
"Yeah," MePhone said. "I...I don't belong here." Cabby looked away for a moment. "Where are you going?"
"I-I don't know," MePhone said. "I'll find...somewhere. I'm sure there's somewhere I...I can't do more damage."
"MePhone," Cabby said. "You didn't do any damage. It's because of you that we're...well, us. More than anything, we have everything to thank you for."
"No," MePhone said. "I...I don't deserve it." Cabby looked down. "I'm nothing."
"No, you're our host," Cabby started, "our friend."
"I'm just a Meeple product," MePhone said.
"You're our Meeple product," Cabby said, softly. "Your our MePhone4." She hesitated. "Well...wherever you're going, MePhone, just know...we'll miss you."
MePhone didn't say anything, but he shifted in his spot. "Come back and visit us," Cabby continued. "And...be careful, MePhone. You're our friend. We'll miss you." MePhone began walking. "And MePhone?" Cabby added. Cabby rolled in front of MePhone. She smiled softly. "Good luck." She moved out of his way.
"Thank you, Cabby," MePhone said. He smiled softly, before it turned back into a frown, then began walking away. He walked a far enough distance to the shore. He stopped.
Is he really doing this? Is he really leaving? Where will he go? What will he do?
There's no time to think about this. There's no point. Wherever he goes, he can't do more damage. He can't make things worse. And...he can't lie. To anyone. Not where he's going. He, and everyone else around him, will be safe, from him. He's trouble. That's all he has been and that's all he will be. Meeple causes problems for the world. He was doomed from the start, asking for snacks, even if he can't eat. He was a malfunction, and...even Steve Cobs thought so.
MePhone turned around. This is the last time he'll ever see this place. His home. Toilet went inside the hotel with everyone to celebrate Suitcase winning. OJ threw a casual party, as he called it, to celebrate the end of Inanimate Insanity. The end of MePhone's life. The end of...everything. It's over.
MePhone turned back around and hopped into the boat. He heard yelling, which only encouraged him to go faster.
He untied the rope keeping the boat to the shore and pushed the dirt. "MePhone!" Fan yelled. "MePhone! Wait!"
MePhone watched as Fan came over the hill, and came to a stop at the shore. Balloon and Yin Yang were the last to make it. "MePhone!" Yin cried.
"MePhone!" Yang yelled. "Don't go!"
MePhone didn't answer. Instead, he waved off the group that came to see him off. "We'll miss you!" Yin called, waving. "Come on, Yang, let's go." Yin Yang walked sadly away, over the hill, and out of sight.
"MePhone!" Balloon called. "Where are you going?"
"Away," MePhone replied. "You guys don't need me."
"Of course we do!" Balloon replied. "You're our friend!"
MePhone looked down and rubbed his arm. Balloon moved the dirt with his foot. "Good luck, MePhone!" He waved both arms.
"MePhone?" Fan asked.
"I'm sorry, Fan," MePhone said. "It's for the best."
"I...I don't understand."
"You won't," MePhone said.
"Will you come back?" Fan asked.
"I don't know," MePhone replied.
"MePhone?" Fan said, taking a few steps into the water. "Good luck."
"Thank you, Fan, Balloon. Thank you."
Fan waved MePhone off with Both hands. Balloon cried.
MePhone waved until he could no longer see his friends. He sighed and sat down in his boat, turning around. "What am I doing?" he asked himself. "There's nowhere for me to go. Except back to..."
Meeple. 3GS went back to Meeple to run things. He promised to make things much smoother and more efficient than Cobs. MePhone didn't understand why 3GS wanted to go back. Neither did he. "I don't know," he said. "It...just feels right."
Meeple is the whole reason why he got into this mess. Meeple is the whole reason why he ran away from Cobs. Why he created everything. Why he is how he is. He doesn't want to go back. Not right now, not ever. Meeple is dangerous. MePhone suggested burning it to the ground, getting it out of the sky. 3GS refused, and promised to make things better.
"No, no, no, I can't go back!" MePhone cried. He hugged his knees. "I can't go back." MePhone rocked himself a little before the boat began moving too much. He then put his feet down on the floor of the boat. He tried to summon some food, a snack, but failed. "Oh...right," he said, disappointed.
The Shimmer. The one Cobs put inside of him. The Shimmer that made him who he is. Fan and Test Tube took it out and saved him from Cobs. Both the Shimmer and MePhone. Cobs wanted MePhone to create more things. Bigger, better, stronger things. He wanted the power to create. The power of Shimmers. MePhone is glad its gone, but...he still wished he had it.
"What am I doing with my life?" MePhone asked, putting his face in his hands. "Where am I eve going?"
The wind picked up speed. Despite his boat not having a sail, the currents pushed it quickly.
A boat pulled up on the shore. "Hmm? A boat?" Walking over to the boat revealed to be someone inside, asleep. He's hugging, tightly, a small, gray ball. "MePhone?"
MePhone stirred, then rolled over. "Hello!" the voice called again. The boat shook. "MePhone! It's your pal Two! Get up!"
Two shook the boat with his foot. "Get up!" he yelled. MePhone fell out of the chair, the gray ball in his arms vanishing. "Wha-?" he asked.
He sat up from the boat, sitting at the bottom of it. "Two?" he asked.
"That's right!" Two cheered. "Good to see you again, pal!" Two reached a hand out to MePhone. MePhone reached for it, then pulled it back.
"Hey, uh, you okay?" Two asked.
"Y-yeah, I'm fine," MePhone lied again. MePhone accepted Two's hand. Two pulled him out of the boat, then dragged it on shore. "How've you been, buddy?" Two asked, smiling.
MePhone didn't answer. Instead, he looked down and rubbed his arm. "MePhone?" Two asked. Two reached for him, only for him to pull his hand away . "W-what happened to your screen?" he asked.
"I, uh..." MePhone said. Steve Cobs' face appeared in his mind. Threatening him. Cobs pulled his closed palm away from him, then punched him. His screen shattered, leaving a permanent mark of his abuse.
His screen. Shattered. He could see it. He could see the point of impact, each line across his face. Sure, his actual face is behind it, but...he can still see it. It's still there. And the sound. The sound of his screen shattering.
CRACK. It echoed in his head. The sound of both Cobs' punch, and the sound of his screen breaking.
"MePhone?" Two asked. "MePhone? Are you okay?" MePhone's hands shook. No matter what he did, he couldn't forget it. He couldn't get rid of it. The bad memories. They'll still be there. Even deleting his memories would eventually give a prompt to restore them. He needs them. But he doesn't want them. He doesn't want them.
"MePhone? Buddy, are you okay?" Two asked again, worry in his voice.
"No..." MePhone muttered. "No, he's still here. He won't leave."
"MePhone? Who's here?" Two asked, looking around.
"He won't leave," MePhone said again, his voice shaky. "He won't leave..." MePhone's face glitched for a brief moment.
"MePhone? You're scaring me," Two said, worried. "Do you want to sit down?"
MePhone put his hands on his head. "He won't leave!" MePhone's voice glitched out for a moment. "Get away from me!" MePhone's screen glitched, changing colors, showing Cobs for a second, before turning black. MePhone fell limp and fell to the ground.
"MePhone?" Two asked. "MePhone! Are you okay?"
Author's Note
Okay, so um, I wanted to rate this K, but it might end up being K, so, sorry about that.
Anyway, I can't get over MePhone's WONDERFULLY SAD STORY and then BFDI DID THE SAME THING so there's gonna be a bit of that in there. I'm going to leave this open for a bit while more episodes of TPOT come out, but thankfully you're gonna get chapters between then because I have a little bit of catching up to do, so yeah. I don't care MePhone and Two aren't canon friends. And, another important note, I'm giving Two the he/him pronouns, just for my sanity, so if you don't like it, please don't be offended. I've had this idea in my head for a bit so I kinda have to get it out. Thank you for supporting me thus far, and I hope you enjoy! (I really wish there was an Inanimate Insanity section on here)
