A/N: So, Dekuthe9th made a request of me for a chapter where after the Sports Festival, Deku confessed the truth of One For All to Todoroki. Personally, I felt it wouldn't make sense for him to confess something like that when he just got acquainted with her, so I changed the timeline to after Kacchan got kidnapped during the Summer Training Camp. Dekuthe9th, I hope you enjoy this chapter!
Though Tsu was against it, as was Iida – who reluctantly joined to make sure that no actual combat broke out – Deku and a couple of other students formed a plan to rescue Kacchan from the clutches of the League of Villains. Naturally, the mission was carefully orchestrated to ensure that they wouldn't get in any tussles. However, Todoroki couldn't help but wonder one thing…
"Midoriya, mind if I talk to you in private?"
"OK, Todoroki."
Deku and Todoroki went to an obscure corner of the hospital where the former had been recuperating.
"What's up?" asked Deku.
"Your Quirk…I've never seen anything like it before, except maybe…All Might's Quirk is very similar." Todoroki narrowed her eyes. "Midoriya, is there something you're not telling me?"
Deku froze as Todoroki's heterochromic eyes bored into his. On one hand, he didn't feel entirely comfortable sharing the secret of One For All with anyone else, but on the other hand, it had been mere months since this girl had shared an earth-shattering secret with him, so he decided that maybe – just maybe – he should return the favor:
"OK, Todoroki…I'll tell you, but only because I trust you not to share this with anyone else."
Todoroki nodded. "Go on."
"Todoroki, I…I wasn't born with this Quirk. My Quirk is called One For All. It's an ancient Quirk that was passed down from generation to generation, gathering more and more power as it was passed down, until one day. Kacchan was being attacked by a sludge villain, and none of the heroes present could do anything about it, until…I don't know why, but for some reason, my body moved without me thinking, and I tried my best to save him. Even though my attempt failed, All Might saw me and found the strength to stop the villain and save Kacchan. He met me later on, and he was so impressed with me that he passed down One For All to me. It came at a cost, though: Since he passed it down to me, the amount of time he can use it each day is growing shorter and shorter, which means…"
"Yes?"
"Eventually…All Might will be Quirkless."
Todoroki dropped her jaw and remained as still as a statue. She'd heard and seen her fair share of weird things, but this took the cake. Once she indicated that she'd regained her composure by blinking, she answered thusly:
"Midoriya, I…that sounds like a terrible burden to bear. Why would you accept such a thing?"
"Truth is, I wanted to be a great hero like All Might, but being born Quirkless, that dream seemed so far away. I only accepted this because I care about society, about my friends…but most importantly about you."
Todoroki began tearing up. "Midoriya…"
Todoroki embraced Deku as she cried, and he did the same for her. Even if knowing this made her feel uneasy, she at least had the satisfaction of knowing that he could protect her and the rest of UA if anything went wrong.
Criticism is gold. Negativity and nitpicking are pyrite.
