Author's Note: Since Jennifer Knight doesn't exist in the Guardian Knight AU, I had to re-write significant portions of Knight of the Juggernaut to remove Jennifer Knight and add Melissa Knight. In general, if a scene didn't change significantly, I summarized in in a couple of paragraphs. And if it did change significantly, I wrote it out with both original (more or less) and new dialogue. I've kept the structure of the episode, with acts and scenes. Let me know what you think.

Act I, Scene 1

As the guard was on the phone, a truck drove up to the security checkpoint. He hung up and told the two men in the truck they were not allowed to pass. One of the two men offered the guard $200 to let them through. But the guard refused to jeopardize his job and told them to find another route.

After a brief phone call with their boss, the two men got into an armored vehicle, complete with a turret. They drove it out of the truck. Using a battering ram built into the turret, they destroyed the booth, leaving no witness behind.

Act I, Scene 2

Michael and Kitt were driving down a highway. As usual, Michael was listening to rock music. Also as usual, Kitt was less than pleased with Michael's taste in music. He decided conversation was in order.

"I've never been to Chicago, Michael."

"Neither have I, pal. But that's where the Foundation Board decided to meet. Melissa gave them permission to use the estate there she inherited from her father."

"Give that the Foundation rarely operates this far east, I am surprised by the choice."

"We rarely operate more than a couple of days drive from California," Michael gently corrected. "Besides, Chicago is a central location for the Board members."

"True. Also, according to Karr, Melissa won't be able to attend in person, even though Perdue University is only a couple of hours away. She has exams for the next couple of days."

"Will she be on conference call?"

"She plans to be." Kitt paused. "Michael, I have Devon on the line."

"Put him through, pal." As soon as Devon was on the screen, Michael greeted him. "Yo, Devon."

"Ah, Michael. I wanted to share some . . . developments with you." Devon seemed a bit distracted.

"Developments? Sounds intriguing."

"It is. In both senses of the word."

"Both senses?"

"Intrigue can mean both to engage in a scheme and to arouse interest," Kitt said.

"Okay, then."

"The latter meaning first, I believe," said Devon. "Knight Industries researchers have developed a new radioactive isotope: Cernium 116. The Foundation is providing security during transportation."

"We're not exactly a security firm."

"More facilitation. Cernium 116 is highly unstable and can only be safely transported during its inactive cycle. The Foundation is arranging for secure storage when it is in its active cycle. And monitoring so we know when the Cernium 116 is inactive and ready for the next leg of its trip."

"How long is a cycle?" Kitt asked.

"So far, each cycle is lasting 36 to 48 hours. Chicago is the last layover before the Cernium 116 goes to its permanent home at Bergen Rock Laboratories."

"Do you need Kitt and me to help with security?"

Devon considered Michael's offer. "No, the current security arrangements should be sufficient."

"All right. And the other meaning of intrigue?"

Devon sighed. "Jennifer Naylor."

Kitt recognized the name. "A relatively new Board member."

"Yes. New but with Plans, with a capital P."

"Such as?"

"She has proposed revamping the Foundation to put more emphasis on promoting social justice and less on investigations."

"Why on Earth would Ms. Naylor propose that?"

"Dr. Naylor has degrees in social work and criminal justice. She wants to change the Foundation to be more in line with her vision of how best to help people."

"But that's not what the Old Man envisioned when he created the Foundation."

"Wilton is dead, Michael," Devon said gently. "He can no longer articulate his vision."

"Then we have to articulate it for him."

"Indeed. And Michael?"

"What?"

"Dr. Naylor does make a compelling case. If we are to prevail, you will need to be on your best behavior."

"Always am, Devon."

"Hmm."

Act I, Scene 3

Jim Hower, one of the two men in the truck, was meeting with his boss: Philip Nordstrom. Hower was eager to discuss the armored vehicle, also known as the Juggernaut. Nordstrom, on the other hand, was furious that the man who should have been in the booth was not. The man – Frank – explained that he had gotten a flat tire, but Nordstrom was not mollified. Using his mechanical right arm, Nordstrom first crushed Frank's hand and then knocked him across the room, breaking his neck.

Nordstrom reminded Hower that he expected perfection, not excuses. He then asked when the Juggernaut would have its additional armor and detonating tip installed and ready for testing. Hower promised it would be done no later than midnight the next day, one way or the other.

Act 1, Scene 4

Michael and Kitt arrived in Chicago, entering along Michigan Avenue. Michael was concerned about the upcoming Board meeting. Kitt was, unusually, the cavalier one, convinced that the Board would never go against Wilton Knight's wishes. Michael, on the other hand, understood human behavior far better than his partner ever would. However, there wasn't much either of them could do until the Board meeting.

As they headed for the security vault where the Cernium 116 was being stored, Kitt picked up a robbery alarm on the police band: there were two men being chased by a costumed man. Kitt suggested to Michael that this could be the Street Avenger they have been hearing so much about. Michael decided to investigate. Kitt tracked the two robbers to an alley, but he couldn't get there due to traffic. So Michael jumped out and went on foot.

Entering the alley, Michael found the two robbers . . . and the Street Avenger. One robber had a knife while the other had a gun. Neither seemed to have noticed Michael, focusing instead on the Street Avenger. Michael rushed in, body slamming both robbers. He and the Street Avenger teamed up and overcame the robbers. Hearing sirens, each man nodded at the other and then left, heading in different directions.

Act 1, Scene 5

Michael and Kitt arrived at the building where the Cernium 116 was being stored. They parked, and Michael headed inside. He stopped at the security station, where Devon greeted him. Like Kitt, Devon was unusually cavalier about the upcoming Board meeting. Michael briefly wondered if either his boss or his partner understood what was at stake.

Devon arranged for Michael to be given a security badge and then escorted him to the elevator bay. As they descended to the vault, Devon excitedly talked about the Cernium 116 and its potential. Michael was suitable impressed. He was also suitably impressed by the security at the vault level. To his trained eye, everything looked solid.

He and Devon went back up to the lobby, to head to the Board meeting. But once in the lobby, a messenger waylaid Devon. He had a message from a Dr. Quinlin, a scientist Devon had engaged as a consultant on the Cernium 116. According to the messenger, Dr. Quinlin urgently needed to speak with Devon. Devon was torn, as he tried to balance the Cernium 116 with the Foundation Board meeting. Michael resolved his dilemma, telling him to meet with Dr. Quinlin while Michael handled the Board. Devon considered, then accepted Michael's suggested and departed with the messenger.

Act I, Scene 6

Devon arrived via cab at the home of Dr. Quinlin. Marta Simmons answered the door. Devon asked to speak with Dr. Quinlin, but Marta (his assistant) explained that Dr, Quinlin had left for a meeting downtown at a company called Thortex. Marta offered to call a cab for Devon there. Devon declined, saying he would call his own cab.

Act 1, Scene 7

Michael arrived at the estate that had belonged to Wilton Knight and now belonged to his daughter, Melissa. He walked into the foyer and was immediately accosted by the butler, who assumed Michael was merely a chauffeur and so should be outside. Michael set him straight, assisted by a couple of Board members recognizing him and coming over to greet him.

Dr. Naylor arrived, giving Michael the cold shoulder. She went into the room where the Board would be meeting, and other Board members started filing in behind her. Michael went to follow but was stopped by the butler. Shrugging, Michael leaned against a wall and waited to be called in to the meeting.

Act I, Scene 8

Devon arrived at the Thortex offices, gave his name, and asked to see Dr. Quinlin. The receptionist checked and then sent him upstairs. Hower greeted him and escorted him to Nordstrom's office. Devon was shocked and surprised to see Dr. Quinlin bound and gagged in a chair next to the desk. Nordstrom greeted Devon and then ordered Hower to notify Dr. Von Furst that they were ready for her.
