Prologue
Harley's POV:
It had been a busy summer in 1969. Pony and I had decided to rent a shared apartment right off campus for the next school year. It was a one-bedroom apartment where we could fit two twin beds in the bedroom, so it worked. Between the two of us working at the library, my tutoring gigs, and the money I got from submitting my article in the spring, we had enough money to cover rent and other things.
Two-Bit and Steve had reassured me that since I would only be staying at the house during breaks and the summer, I wouldn't have to pay rent when I was away, and they could take over the rent, especially with what they were making now at their jobs.
In terms of world events, we watched the moon landing this summer, which was interesting. Vietnam was still going on, and the fact that any of the guys could get drafted was hanging over our heads. Richard Nixon was also in office at the beginning of the year, which was different. There were the Stonewall Riots, a killer named The Zodiac Killer who was leaving his mark in the true crime world, and David Bowie was my new favorite artist with his song "Space Oddity."
What we didn't know was the first week when we moved into our new apartment, what true crime would rock LA the effect that it would have on our lives, and what I was going to be researching this year. If only I would know.
