Hi, I hope you enjoy chapter 8 of this story! Sorry it's a few days late. Now let's see what the worst villain in the land has to say to her daughter...
Chapter 8: Letters
Mal sighed, as she took out her purple can of graffiti. School had been too long today. Her hands were itching to squeeze the watery paint out onto her wall. But just as Mal was about to spray an x over a map of Auradon she had drawn an outline of, her mother walked into the room with a look on her face that caused Mal to drop her paint.
"Mal Bertha," Maleficent snapped, glaring at her daughter. Mal winced at her middle name. She was not a fan of it.
"Xar has just spoke to me. It seems he wants to take my place as ruler of the Isle. Is that true? What do you know of him?"
"Well," Mal replied, backing up slightly. "If it's that tall man with the ugly cloak, then he came to our school and told all the teachers to prepare us for battle against Auradon. When the supply boats come."
"Yes, he told me that. What else?"
"That's all I know," Mal admitted.
"You must follow him from now on. Forget school. Forget your stupid friends. Find out exactly who he is. Now!"
As much as she didn't like the idea of following some creepy battle guy around, Mal knew her mother would not back down in this mood. Actually, her mother would not back down in any mood. Maleficent got what she wanted and she didn't intend to change that. Mal walked out the door and sighed. It wasn't fair that her mother controlled her life. Mal wished she could just move out. But where to go? There weren't exactly deserted houses here. There were simply too many villains trapped here for that. Suddenly, Mal spotted a house she had never seen before. It was about half the size of an average apartment building. Mal ran up to the building and stepped through the brown wooden door. She found a cracking wooden staircase on the first floor, and climbed it. At the top was a single room. It was plain and completely empty. So this is what an empty house looks like. Mal grinned as she looked around the room. My new home, She thought. A chair could go in a corner and she could put a bed against the wall. Mal saw a balcony. That would be perfect for her to spy on people from. And the walls looked perfect for spray painting. But Mal would have to come back. Right now, her mom sent her on a mission and the last thing Mal wanted to do was disappoint her mother. Mal walked outside and started towards school. It wasn't long before she spotted Xar. He was writing a letter. Mal wished she could climb a tree to look over at what he was writing, but she didn't know how. Just then, she spotted Moth and Goth. They saw her and started coming her way. Mal put a finger to her lips and pointed at Xar. Moth squinted at him and whispered to her brother. Mal watched Goth and Moth silently climb a tree behind Xar. After a few minutes, he left. Mal waited until he was out of hearing zone and asked,
"What did you see?"
"We saw him writing a letter," Goth said.
"What did it say?" Mal pried.
"What will you give us if we tell you?" Moth challenged. Information was not free on the Isle.
"I'll give you each a coffee," Mal replied.
"No way," Goth said. "Coffee is gross."
"That's what makes it so good," Mal challenged. "But if you really don't like it, I'll give you the gift of leaving you alone." The twins weren't so bad for their age. They were sort of wicked.
"Deal," Moth said, and Goth nodded. "Now I can tell everyone we're friends!"
"No we are not," Mal snapped. Now they were going too far.
"Chill, she was joking," Goth grinned. Mal rolled her eyes.
"So what did the letter say?" She asked.
"It said that Xar was coming home soon to bring everyone to Auradon," Goth said.
"And that they should prepare for battle," Moth chimed in. "Whoever the person Xar's writing to is. And that if the people of the Isle couldn't do it he would take his armor and swords back."
"Coming home soon?" Mal wondered. "It sounds like he's not from the Isle." The more Mal thought of it the more likely it sounded. He didn't know her mom and he acted better than everyone else. Plus, neither her nor Maleficent had seen him before, and they knew almost everyone on the Isle.
"It does sound like that," Moth agreed.
"We should follow him," Goth suggested.
"I will follow him," Mal told them, "and you two go home."
"No way," Moth said, crossing her arms.
"Ya, we're in this all the way," Goth said
Mal sighed. She knew they wouldn't back down.
"Fine," she said reluctantly. "But be quiet and you'd better stay out of my way"
Goth nodded and Mal and the twins set off to find the stranger from another world.
I hope you enjoyed this chapter! The next one will be out in a few weeks or less. Thank you for reading!
