Episode 1: A Newer Hope
Chapter 1: The Final Sanctuary
The following dialogue consists of an encrypted phone call between the former President of the United States, Joseph Campbell, and one of his anonymous agents.
Even though he failed to save his country and its people from an onslaught of totalitarian aggression, he is determined to atone for his failures, and find a way to set things right again, no matter what it takes, no matter how ridiculous it sounds.
Beware the man who has nothing left to lose...
"President Campbell, are you really sure this decision of yours is worth it? The Dragon Emperor said he would agree to spare the lives of the American people if they cooperated with his all-new policies. Maybe we should just give this dream of ours up, we can't afford more bloodshed and destruction."
"Are you an idiot? Or worse, have you lost your mind? The Emperor of China made it very clear that all the people he conquered were to be incorporated into a system of chattel slavery to serve his ethnic Han Dynasty Master Race. I'd rather die fighting than live in bondage. And for the love of God, stop calling me the President! That is an archaic title from an age long gone, with no place in this new era."
"That still doesn't answer my first question. You've decided to give an irreversible order to unveil what is perhaps the most dangerous experimental military asset in the history of mankind. If this venture of yours by any means fails, then we are doomed to be destroyed in a campaign of complete genocide. What's more, if the Chinese imperialists somehow get their hands on the classified technology stored deep beneath the desert valleys, then we might as well be allowing the devil himself to take over the minds of every last human being!"
"Does it look like we have any other options to effectively fight back, and have a chance to turn this war in our favor? Because if you aren't on board with this plan, you might as well perish while drowning in your own despair, along with all the other people who lost faith in this country. Or can I trust you enough to help me out here? In practice, the ideals that drove forward our now nearly extinct democracy were often built on taking risks."
"...I have nothing else to say. You've made your point, Mr. Campbell. Our lack of risk taking, incompetence and hesitation were all factors contributing to the victories of the Axis Powers. And we have nothing to lose. Our families are most likely dead, or worse, being used as test subjects in Chinese and Russian government experiments. More than half the country's major cities lie in ruins. And 90 percent of our military's infrastructure and equipment has been destroyed or severely damaged, with many great leaders killed or captured. If I survive, I'll meet you at the final destination of the American journey. And from there, we WILL make our dream a reality."
"So now we've both come to understand what needs to be done. My utmost thanks go to you, sir. Now, make haste for the confidential location that I've given you and other key survivors in hiding! This level of encryption and security won't last very long, and the People's Liberation Army could compromise our anonymity at any moment. There is good news, though- the Axis forces know I'm alive, but believe that I'm a cowardly pushover who gave up on his cause a long time ago. Let's try to use that to our advantage."
"May God be with you, servant of the people and the nation."
