It was another boring day at the office- paperwork, sending men out on missions, phone calls and covert ops, media maintanance- it was all so repetitive, so... monotonous. The territorial wars were at an all time high and it had been taking its toll. Needing a break, I sat in the luxurious office leaned back in the plush leather chair at my desk. With a cigar between my lips, I scrolled through social media. Most in my position have men to monitor social media activity for any suspicious behavior- as do I. However, I find that the most interesting targets are often hidden in the quiet corners of the online world. For this reason, I had several accounts of my own.
Growing bored, I was about to close my phone when a music video caught my eye. It was low end- clearly made with whatever programs the user could find, but it was the woman's energy that caught my eye. It was potent and shifting- as if made of the elements, and seemed to respond to every word and movement within and around her. The woman's aura was strong and it seeped through the screen, filling me with an intense longing for something more- it was as though she had somehow woven not just her pain and longing into the song, but the suffering emotions of every being within our world right into the lyrics. Who was this woman?- I needed to know who it was that made me feel such intense emotion.
Clicking her profile, the words "just a bored small town chick" stuck out at me- there was definitely something more to this 'small town girl' than met the eye. At first glance, she seemed to be a budding artist- her page full of cover songs, but those lyrics he had listened to...
"Tell me what's out there, tell me what's real
Wanna see the real world, wanna know how it feels"
She seemed to know more than average, believing so fiercely that she longed to see it for herself- was she aware of the dangers? Did she know the dark things that exist in this world?
"Sick of the lies, sick of all the fighting
Where's the adventure? Where are they hiding?"
So, she knew more than she should, she wanted to break the illusion. Why? Was it solely for herself? A longing for adventure? Or was there more to it?
I began keeping an eye on her profile, and more questions arose with each new cover song. She had yet to post another original, but each cover sounded as though she had changed the meaning of the lyrics without changing anything about the songs- how was she doing it? They were energetic messages, it seemed- sent out through music. Some seemed to urge followers to band together, reminding them of the importance of the journey- others more aggressive, almost as if she were challenging the public to do something about the current system. Other covers seemed to be aimed directly at the elites in charge- challenges to take action, reminders that nothing lasts forever, that the people would not help rebuild the system when it inevitably fell.
I had never seen anything like it before- the only other places I'd seen this level of influence was in the entertainment industry... The entertainment industry...
As I had this thought, it suddenly clicked- she was using our methods against us! To what end? What was this woman's goal? ...and just how much did she know? Pulling out my phone, I dial a number to reach my right hand man.
Victor picks up with his usual gruff and dutiful tone, "Yes, boss?"
"Victor," I say with both urgency and intrigue in my tone, "I need our media team to monitor someone- a potential threat to the system..."
"I will get right on it, boss," Victor's dutiful and emotionless tone came through the speaker, "I just need a name."
Who was this woman that had learned our techniques? Was the low end quality of her videos purposeful- to hide what they really were? Just how much power did this woman wield- and could I somehow possess her and everything she embodied? These thoughts and more ran through my mind as I reply low and smooth, "Her name... is Inaru Hanshite."
