Spider-Bat: New Way Home
Chapter Two: Burn Down The Mission
Mary and Richard had been sleeping all night. Their bed was drenched from how much the two of them had been sweating overnight. It was now already 12:30 in the afternoon, and they were still asleep. Until Suddenly-
SPLASH! Water had been dumped on their faces.
The two of them woke up to find out that their mouths had been gagged and their arms and legs had been tied down to the bed, making it impossible for them to move or speak. Standing over them was a man wearing a gray mask along with a gray three-piece suit.
The two of them didn't know what was going on. They tried to make a noise, but the sound came out very muffled. They tried to wiggle, but the ropes were just too tight.
The masked man sat down on the bed next to Mary. "You guys are going to answer a few questions for my associate. If you answer honestly, I won't hurt you. But, if you don't… I'm going to have to torture you until you do," he threatened. He then pulled a knife out of his back pocket and stuck it next to Mary's cheek. "I hope you choose the latter, heh-heh-heh," he mocked.
Then, the door to their bedroom opened up and in walked Norman Osborn. His face looked very displeased, and Mary and Richard knew exactly why. They could only imagine how pissed off Norman must have been after discovering what happened in his hidden lab. The menacing bat probably destroyed everything.
The masked man moved aside, yet still holding his knife to Mary's cheek, allowing room for Norman to stand and talk to them. "Mr. Osborn is going to ask you a few yes-or-no questions. When he does, I'm going to need you to nod your heads appropriately. Do you understand?" He asked.
The two of them didn't make any head motions. This upset the masked man very much. He then began to press the knife more forcefully against Mary's cheek, causing a bit of blood to run down her face. "I said… Do you understand!"
The two of them then began to nod their heads as if to say "yes."
"Good!" The masked man exclaimed, continuing to prod with the knife.
Osborn stood over them gritting his teeth for a couple more seconds. Then he asked, "Do you have the sample from my lab? The one that contained the symbiote?"
Mary and Richard looked at each other, then they looked up at Norman and started shaking their heads as if to say "no."
"WRONG ANSWER!" The masked man cut deeper into Mary's cheek.
Mary's eyes began to tear up. Richard began muffling and squirming, trying as hard as he could to get freed from the ropes, wanting desperately to save his wife. But it was of no use. The masked man had done too good of a job tying them down.
"I know you two were in the hidden lab last night. Your car was parked a block away. I have access to all the street cameras within a three mile radius of Oscorp," Norman proclaimed. "Was it Carl Brock who let you in?"
The two of them shook their heads as if to say "no" again.
"LIARS!" Norman declared. "I saw the two of you talking to him in the parking garage yesterday after you left my office! He's the only one that could have told you about the lab in that amount of time. Plus, he hasn't shown up for work today, and he, his wife and child aren't anywhere to be found. Unlike you two idiots! At least he was smart enough to high-tail it out of town. Now, I'm going to need you guys to tell me where my test subject is, because everything else in the lab was destroyed last night, and that test subject is the only thing I have left which will allow me to continue my studies. What you guys did to my lab last night has already set me back a decade. Without that symbiote, I will be set back another decade on top of that. So… I'm going to ask you one last time, as nicely as I can… WHERE IN THE HELL IS MY TEST SUBJECT!?"
Mary and Richard tried shrugging their shoulders as if to say "they didn't know."
"Fine! Slit her throat from ear to ear!" Norman ordered the masked man.
The mask man placed the knife against Mary's throat and then slowly started to cut, causing Richard to begin muffling through his mouth gag as loud as he could.
"Stop!" Norman ordered the masked man. "I believe Mr. Parker has something he would like to say to us."
The masked man then reached over and forcefully pulled the gag from out of Richard's mouth.
"We don't have it! We don't have it!" Richard spouted repeatedly.
Norman's eyes widened. His eyebrows grew to a sharp point of disdain. "WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN, YOU DON'T HAVE IT!?"
"The test-tube broke while we were in the lab! I swear!" Richard exclaimed. "I accidentally fed the bat, not knowing it would cause it to get bigger. It broke free from its glass cage and began attacking us! Look at my left arm! It bit me!"
Norman looked at Richard's arm, but he saw no bite marks. "Is this supposed to be some sort of a joke!?" Norman spouted. "Do you want your wife to die right in front of your eyes!?"
"No! Please don't!" Richard pleaded, he was shocked to find out the bite mark was no longer there. "I'm telling you the truth! The test-tube broke when the bat was attacking us! By the time we made it to the elevator, it was gone! I swear I'm not lying! Please don't hurt her! I've told you everything I know!"
The masked man was very good at knowing if someone was telling the truth or not. "He's being honest, boss. They don't have it," he said, placing the gag back in Richard's mouth.
Norman infuriated, grabbed a lamp that was plugged in next to the bed and then ripped it out of the wall, flinging it across the room, crashing it into a mirror on the wall, and causing both the lamp and the mirror to shatter into several pieces.
"Do you want me to carve them up, boss?" The masked man piped up.
"No. We have to make it look like an accident. Give them the knockout gas. After they pass out, we will untie them, and then burn down the house. The fire department will probably blame the faulty wiring since the lamp was yanked out of the wall." Norman then began walking out of the room, but before he did- "I told you guys you should have adopted. Sorry to ruin your mission."
The masked man looked down at Mary. "Awe. That's ashamed. I was really looking forward to torturing the two of you." He then pulled out a canister which had a hose and nozzle connected to it. "This stuff is going to knock you out for a few hours. But- you'll be dead from smoke inhalation within ten minutes," he proclaimed. "Although, you should be happy to go out this way. It's much better than the alternative," he said, raising the nozzle, and spraying them in their faces with the sleeping gas.
Mary and Richard continued squirming, trying to fight the gas, but within seconds, they were rendered motionless.
After untying them, the masked man squirted lighter fluid into the electrical circuit. He then placed a couple pieces of their mail next to the outlet, assuring it would catch fire. He then lit up the paper, watching as the fire crawled into the outlet. Soon the wall had also caught fire, and it continued climbing up to the ceiling.
"Arrivederci!" The mask man waved as he walked out of the room.
The fire continued to spread across the ceiling and onto the walls and floors. The entire room was soon engulfed in flames.
The masked man and Norman sat watching in a black van which was parked down the street. They were making sure Mary and Richard didn't come out. They drove away as soon as the house was completely engulfed in flames.
"Ain't nobody walking away from an inferno like that!" The masked man declared.
Within the house, the blaze had already caused the bed to catch fire, and there was smoke everywhere.
Suddenly, something began to happen to Mary's body. The black symbiote started oozing over her. Finally, after it had completely covered her entire body from head to toe, she suddenly sat up. She looked as if she was awake, but the symbiote was actually controlling her mind at that time.
The symbiote looked over at Richard. It knew the symbiote bat's DNA was coursing through Richard's veins. It then quickly snatched him up from off the bed and carried him away from the burning house within mere seconds of the entire place collapsing in on itself.
Later that night, Richard and Mary finally woke up. They couldn't believe they were still alive. They found themselves laying in an abandoned warehouse. They were both half-naked for some odd reason. They were unaware that the symbiotes made the two of them make love to each other. This would allow for the symbiotes to have a more adaptable offspring together.
"How did we get here?" Richard asked."And where are our clothes?"
Mary shrugged her shoulders. "I have no idea how we got here." Then she gazed over towards the corner of the warehouse and noticed that their clothes were dangling off of a wooden crate. "Over there." She pointed.
The two of them stood up and then quickly walked over to grab their clothes and put them on.
"What do we do now?" Mary asked, still surprised at their whereabouts. "Do you think Norman brought us here?"
"I don't think so. He seemed pretty adamant about wanting us dead and making it look like an accident." Richard replied. "Maybe it was Carl Brock who found us and brought us here. Maybe he was watching to see what Norman was planning to do," he suggested, scratching his head.
"Oof!" Mary groaned, slumping over, clutching her stomach in pain, unaware that she was already pregnant. That is because the alien symbiote evolves quicker than humans.
"What's wrong?" Richard asked, rushing to her side.
"It felt like a bad cramp... But I'm okay now." She replied, still slightly slumped over and holding her stomach.
"Come on. Let's get out of here." Richard insisted, putting his arm around Mary's waist, hoping it would help her to regain her balance.
"And go where?" Mary wondered aloud. "Where can we possibly go that Norman and his henchmen won't find us?"
"I know someone in Gotham. An old colleague of mine. His name is Thomas Wayne. He will be able to help us out. I know it," he assured her.
