Chapter 5: Facing One's Fears
Luz was looking at a picture of her mom on her phone… she now had ways to charge her phone… but was unsure how to do this…
But it was still hard… sure she sent a message to her mother before her phone ran out of power… but she was still afraid.
She knew she had to… but she was just still afraid.
That was when she overheard something.
Turned out it was Izuku on the phone.
"Yeah, school's going well…" he heard him say, "It's really been fun and it's very different from UA."
"I'm glad it's going well." Responded his mom.
Luz smiled knowing she shouldn't listen in.
After the call, Izuku noticed Luz nearby.
"You were on the phone with your mom right?" asked Luz.
"Yeah." Said Izuku.
"That's cool!" said Luz then realized something, "Oh do you have any pictures of her?"
Izuku blushed and decided to show her a picture of his mom.
It showed the tow of them together, she was short and plump woman, but it was clear that they were mother and son because she big green eyes and green hair like Izuku.
"Awe! She's so cute! I guess adorableness runs in the family!" gushed Luz.
Izuku could only blush.
That was when Ochaco walked down the hallway that was what she saw the talking.
"Luz… stop…" he managed to say.
"What you're so precious!" giggled Luz.
Izuku started to cover his face in embarrassment which only made Luz giggle more.
Ochaco sighed and walked away.
Once Izuku stopped being embarrassed, the two had a real conversation.
"I think everyone but Kacchan got in contact with their families already." Said Izuku.
"Oh that's good!" said Luz figuring not everyone contacted their parents for one reason or another.
"Have you called your mom yet?" asked Izuku.
"Not yet… I've been working up the courage." Said Luz.
"What do you mean?" asked Izuku.
"It's complicated." Said Luz, "I don't think I'm up to talk about it…"
Izuku sighed but knew he wouldn't comply drop and find openings to talk to her.
The next day during lunch…
Bakugo was eating angrily. After all it was another day in the dentation tract reading books about going through history about the ties between Earth and the Demon Realm.
"Whoa! What got you riled up?" asked Kirishima.
"I just spent the last hour reading a chapter about how Giraffes were banished to earth." Growled Bakugo, "There was nothing in there to get us back home!"
"Wait… if you knew that the chapter wouldn't help you get back him why did you read the chapter?" asked Amity.
Bakugo glared at her…
And everyone quickly realized the truth .
"Dude… you just wanted to learn more about giraffes." Said Kirishima.
"Fuck you Shitty Hair!" yelled Bakugo lightly blushing;.
"There's no shame in admitting that you wanted to know more about the subject." Said Tenya.
Bakugo was growling at him.
Izuku was focusing on his food trying not to say something.
"Don't you dare say anything Deku." Said Bakugo.
"I was just eating! I swear!" said Izuku .
Luz then smiled slyly.
"Considering your shared backstory I bet you've been to the zoo together as little kids and you loved giraffes." Said Luz.
Amity looked at Luz.
"What makes you say that?" asked Amity unsure how to respond.
"It's an earth kid thing… I mean what kid hadn't gone to the zoo and loved giraffes." Said Luz.
"I haven't been to a zoo." Said Todoroki.
Izuku and Bakugo didn't look surprised.
"What? Really?" asked Luz shocked.
"He is the son of the number 2 hero of Japan so it would make some sense that he would never have gone to a zoo." Said Tenya.
"Wait does that mean you've never been to a zoo?" asked Ochaco.
"No my parents and brother made time to do trips like that, but it is probably different for the number 2 hero." Said Tenya.
"I guess…" said Luz.
However Amity looked at Luz.
"I just can't believe that humans keeps giraffes lock up in zoos." Said Gus.
"They have been there for who knows how long so it does make sense." said Willow.
"It just sounds so weird…" said Gus.
On the way back to the Owl House, Willow, Gus and Amity joined them for the walk back.
During the walk however Izuku and Luz were talking about magic.
"Really?" asked Izuku.
"It's true!" said Luz.
"That's amazing." Said Izuku.
Amity and Ochaco both watched the two talk… and both sighed at the same time.
Amity noticed the shared sigh.
"Uh…" said Amity .
"What?" asked Ochaco.
"Can we talk later?" asked amity .
"Oh… okay…" said Ochaco confused.
Once they got back to the Owl, the two of them found a place to talk in secret… well as much secret as they could in a house filled with teens… and as well alive…
"So what did you want to talk about?" asked Ochaco.
"Do you have a crush on Izuku?" asked Amity .
Ochaco started to blush and then started laugh nervously.
"Sure he's amazing, kind, sweet and really strong… but…" said Ochaco, "I don't know if I like him like that…"
"Wow… you got it bad…" said Amity .
"Why are you asking?" asked Ochaco.
"Well… no reason… I mean Luz is also amazingly… and kind… but it's stupid…" said Amity.
Ochaco looked at Amity .
"Hypocrite…" said Ochaco.
Amity laughed nervously at that. After all Ochaco was right, she was being a bit of a hypocrite.
Both of them sighed.
"So… you going to talk to him?" asked Amity.
"I don't know…" said Ochaco, "I mean the last time we were alone together I freaked out over my crush… and then bad things happened…"
"What sort of bad things…" said Amity .
"A villain showed up and tried to kill him…" sighed Ochaco.
"Oh…" said Amity.
"Yeah…" said Ochaco, "What about you…"
"Telling Luz about my feelings and her turning me down is my greatest fear…" sighed Amity, "And before you ask, I know that for a fact. It's a long story."
Both of them sighed.
"By the way… don't let Aoyama or Mina know…" said Ochaco.
"Drama queens?" asked Amity.
"Yeah…" said Ochaco.
Meanwhile both Aoyama and Mina got the feeling as they were hanging out.
"Mina… did you just felt like you were just insulted?" asked Aoyama.
"Yeah… but I don't know who…" muttered Mina.
That night… Luz once again looked at her phone struggling to contact her mom.
That was when she heard a yell.
A yell she had gotten used to in the last several days.
King ran in.
"Hey! Luz! You have to see this!" yelled King, "It's hilarious!"
Luz went down stairs and Bakugo was having a phone conversation with someone.
"Stop fucking laughing you old hag!" yelled Bakugo.
"I'm sorry! But I can't help to because it's great to see your ass finally got detention!" was what the other person said on the other end who was a woman.
""what the fuck does that mean!" yelled Bakugo.
"Please we both know that Aldera was nothing but ass kissers who wanted to ride your fucking coattails!" yelled the woman on the other end.
"Who is on the phone with?" asked Luz.
"His mom…" sighed Izuku who wasn't surprised.
"So everyone in class contacted their families now." Said Luz.
"FUCK! YOU DON'T KNOW THAT WAS THE CASE!" yelled Bakugo.
""I'm going to wait a bit longer before figuring out a way to call that magic school… until then enjoy detention." Said Bakugo's mom.
"Fucking hag!" yelled Bakugo.
"By the way your father wants to talk." Said his mom on the other end.
"Fine! Give me a fucking minute!" yelled Bakugo, "Shows over! Get the fuck away!"
"Uncle Masaru is actually really nice." Said Izuku.
Those watching were surprised to hear this.
Then they noticed the 180 in Bakugo's demeanor as he talked actually rather calmly to his dad.
"I've only known him for like a week and this is really weird…" said Eda who was among those watching .
"We should really give hi privacy." Said Izuku.
"Yeah… he might actually try to kill us if listen in on a conversation with his dad." Said Kaminari.
"Do you want to die Pikachu!" yelled Bakugo.
"Yeah now's a good time to leave…" said Kaminari.
Both Luz and Izuku ended up going to roof.
"I know for a fact that telling my mom what's going on is my greatest fear…" said Luz, "IT's even past milk, jerks online who want to debate and human souls trapped in cat bodies."
"Human souls trapped in cat bodies." Said Izuku.
"I'd rather not explain…" said Luz.
Izuku nodded.
"I fought a monster called Grom… it's a shapeshifter that takes the form of our greatest fears…" said Luz, "It turned into the portal door and my mom stepping out of it… granted it also turned into a warped version of my mom… but still…"
She sighed and looked up to the sky.
"If you need help, I'll help you…" said Izuku.
"Hey… I'd complain… but you do seem like the meddling type." Said Luz.
Izuku laughed, "Meddling in things is part of being a hero…" admitted Luz .
Luz laughed.
"But not tonight." Said Luz, "It's getting late."
That was when Izuku got a text from his mom.
He checked it…
And tried not to laugh.
"What is it?" asked Luz .
Izuku showed her the text.
"I heard Katsuki finally called Mitsuki… was it loud on your end?"
Luz laughed really hard at it .
"Mom and Auntie are best friends." Said Izuku.
"I see…" laughed Luz.
The next day at school, Bakugo was once against glowing about being stuck in detention.
"Wait… I forgot to show you the secret… didn't it?" asked Luz.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" asked Bakugo.
"Viney showed me something really cool when I ended up the in the detention tract." Said Luz, "And you know how the teacher is a sleep most of the time…"
"Yeah…" said Bakugo.
"Eda created a secret room back when she was a student." Said Luz, "And there's a door in the classroom."
"Wait what…" said Bakugo, "Why fuck didn't you tell me sooner."
"I forgot okay…" said Luz.
"Whatever…" muttered Bakugo, "Are you sure I won't wake up the teacher?"
"Oh you can put a mop on his face and he won't wake up.," said Gus, "I learned this from experience."
"Gus…" sighed Willow.
Amity and Ochaco however were looking at their respective crushes.
That was when Willow noticed their faces.
She was okay with dealing with one love struck idiot, but dealing with two… and thinking the eons they had a crush on…
Especially since Luz and Izuku started to talk about something.
After school. Willow decided to pull them aside.
"What do you need to talk about…" said Ochaco.
"I can deal… with Amity… but you're kind of obvious Ochaco." Sighed Willow.
"What?" asked Ochaco.
"You've known all along I have a crush on Luz…" said Amity glaring at Willow.
"You're really obvious." Sighed Willow.
Amity blushed at Willow.
"Look… it doesn't matter…" sighed Ochaco.
"You know you're just assuming that they like each other." Sighed Willow.
"They are so good together." Said Amity, "They're so much alike and well…"
"You can always ask…" said Willow.
Amity blushed and Willow knew that getting rejected was Amity's fear. Practically everyone in the school knew… though no one but Willow had pieced together it was Luz.
"No why I mean is that you ask Luz." Said willow looking at Ochaco then looked at Amity, "And you ask at Izuku."
"That's really great advice." Said Ochaco.
Amity looked at Willow and said, "I really hate my parents right now…"
"What?" asked Ochaco.
"Oh I said that outload…" said Amity blushing a little.
"Don't ask…" muttered Willow.
Not too longer later at the Owl House the two implanted their plan.
"Hey! Luz can I ask you something?" asked Ochaco.
"Oh sure." Said Luz.
"Hey Izuku I need to talk to you." Said Amity.
"Okay…" said Izuku.
Both of them went to out into the forest in different spots.
With Ochaco and Luz.
"Hey I wanted to ask you something… um… how do you feel about Izuku?" asked Ochaco.
"Oh I know I've only known for like a week but he's one of my closet friends, he's so smart! I mean he came up with so many ways for me to use my quirk in ways I never even imagined!" said Luz.
"Oh… so you're just friends." Said Ochaco.
Luz blinked then grinned a cat smile.
"Oh get it…" said Luz.
"What?" asked Ochaco.
"You like him…" said Luz.
Ochaco covered her face and blushed.
However when she did that… she accident activated her quirk on herself causing her to float.
Luz managed to place a plant glyph on the ground which turned into soft vines to grab her.
"Thanks…" said Ochaco.
She brought herself down with help from the vines.
"Hey! Go for it! You two would be so cute together." Said Luz.
Ochaco was relieved that she got confirmation that it was friendship on Luz's end at least.
With Amity and Izuku…
"So what did you want to talk about?" asked Izuku.
"I was wondering about your feelings for Luz." Said Amity blushing a little.
"She's a good friend." Said Izuku, "Why?"
"So you don't like her that way?" asked Amity breathing a sigh of relief.
Izuku realized romantically.
"No… she's just a friend." Said Izuku.
Amity breathed a sigh of relief.
"Good." Sighed Amity.
Izuku immediately jumped to certain conclusions.
"Wait… are you saying…" said Izuku blushing bright red.
Amity sighed figuring that might have been his reaction.
"Izuku… I'm gay." Sighed Amity.
"Oh…" said Izuku then he realized why she was asking, "Ooooh…"
"Yeah…" Said Amity.
"I won't tell Luz…" said Izuku.
"You better not!" muttered Amity.
Izuku nodded knowing it was better not to anger her.
After dinner, Luz and Izuku were on the roof top which was now to their go to spot to meet.
Izuku gave her the thumbs up and she called her mom.
The phone rang and her mom picked up.
"Mija?" asked her mom on the other end.
"Hey… mom…" said Luz.
Izuku waited for the signal for the conversation to be private.
"Why haven't you texted me in the last week? After you sent that strange message?" asked her mother.
"Well you see… I'm not at camp… I never made it… and well…" said Luz, "I'm in a magical ft antsy world…"
"What?" asked her mother.
Luz sighed and told her about how she followed an owl through a doorway that led to the demon realm. And she decided to learn magic under a witch who had doorway back to earth. However she had to destroy the doorway due to the world's emperor wanted it for an evil purpose.
"Mija…" said her mother.
"I know I should have told you but… I just afraid how'd you react…" said Luz.
"Luz…" sighed her mother, "Just today I used my special healing powers on a lizard man who got injured fighting a villain who could his nails into nails…"
Luz giggled…
"Luz…" sighed her mother.
"I'm sorry… but the pun involving the villains' quirk…" said Luz.
"I know… but my point is that discovering a magical world doesn't really surprise me…" said her mother.
Luz looked at Izuku who nodded. She didn't need his support any more so he left.
"Why didn't you call before?" asked her mother.
"Two reasons… the first is that well… I was afraid how you would react to me lying…" said Luz .
Her mother sighed.
"We'll talk about this when you find your way home." Sighed her mother.
"Oh and the other reason… my phone died… and I haven't been able to charge it." Said Luz.
"I should have known…" sighed her mother.
"Yeah…" said Luz.
"How were you able to recharge it?" asked her mother.
"Oh! This is somehow one of the more unbelievable parts of the story…" said Luz.
"You're in a magical fantasy world…" said her mother.
"I know… but after I got sucked here another magical one way gateway brought some more humans here…" said Luz, "Class 1-A from UA… you know the class that got 12 or the 16 slots in the UA sports festival tournament! And there's a translating spell so we can understand each other."
"What… really?" asked her mother, "Are you safe?"
"What?" asked Luz, "Oh right… the whole getting chained to podium thing… yeah… that guy's a huge jerk but the rest are cool! In fact I've become good friends with Izuku Midoriya."
"Which one is he again?" asked her mother .
"The one who made it to the second round… and ended up breaking all of his fingers badly…" said Luz.
"Oh yes him… he all right?" asked her mother .
"Yeah… he's got a better handle of on his quirk since then." Said Luz, "He showed me a couple times."
"Also we need to talk about your letters." Said her mother.
"What letters?" asked Luz.
"What… the ones you been send me…" said her mother.
"I haven't been sending you any letters…" said Luz.
"But I've gotten… letters…" said mother.
Luz could hear her mother realizing something.
"I thought your ADHD was acting up…" said her mother, "I thought that's why you misspelled your name… but…"
"Someone's been impersonating me." Said Luz paling.
"Luz, don't worry I'll handle it." Said her mother realizing something bad might be going on.
"Are you sure?" asked Luz.
"Luz… you know I'm friends with quite a few heroes." Said her mother.
"Right… working at a hospital with a healing quirk…" laughed Luz, "A job like that gets you in with heroes."
"Luz… I want to hear more about what's going on and no more lies. But for now I have to contact some of them… because this is very serious."
"Of course… Mami." Said Luz.
"Luz please… no more lies… I want to know what's really going on." Said her mother.
"I know…" sighed Luz.
They said their bus and Luz ended the call.
She went to the window where Izuku was waiting.
"Did everything… go well." Said Izuku.
"Well the good news is that she took things pretty well which in hindsight makes sense considering she works in a hospital with a healing quirk…" said Luz, "But I'm probably going be grounded when I get home sure but…"
"What happened?" asked Izuku.
"I don't know who or why… but someone was impersonating me and sending letter to my mom." Said Luz.
"What…" said Izuku paling.
"My mom knows a bunch of heroes because you know… works in a hospital with a healing quirk… but yeah…" said Luz.
"It will be okay." Said Izuku.
"Yeah…" sighed Luz, "I hope so…"
With that Luz faced her fear and contacted her mom… however discovered something she didn't know was going on.
Also Ochaco and Amity got the clear that Luz and Izuku's friendship was just that… friendship… so that was good…
Next Time: On the way back to school the new head of the Emperor's Coven makes a move and manages to kidnap Izuku! His plans are for Izuku to help the Emperor with his plans... and he has the perfect way to accomplish this... can the others rescue him before his memories are destroyed! Also someone messed with Eda's elixir... who is it? Find out next time!
A/N: Yep it's Lumity and Green Tea... with Green Tea it was kind of expected, but yep I love Lumity! So yeah... That's the ship of the story...
Also I had Camila's reaction to be much calmer than I think she will react in canon… because she's in a world where 80 percent of the population has super powers… she would probably kind of brush it off… And also I figured that her having a healing quirk and would use it on heroes would be a cool idea… So yeha…
