Author's Note: I don't own Avengers or its characters. The face claim of Riley Stark's best friend, Gwendolyne Maxine 'Gwen' Warren is none other than Sabrina Carpenter. Now onto the chapter!
Take on the World
Chapter 2: Inseparable Friends
Riley took a deep breath and let it out as her limo arrived in front of Midtown West Middle School.
The brunette wore a cherry red floral flutterby fit and flare dress with a short dark blue jacket that was adorned with small bronze buttons. Underneath she had on her short black boots.
She took her backpack and headed out of the limo before thanking the driver.
The moment Riley stepped out, her classmate and best friend, Gwen tackled her in a hug.
Gwendolyne Maxine 'Gwen' Warren was an eleven year old girl with medium length blonde hair that was curly and soft blue eyes. She wore a blue studded tiger sweater, beige coloured jeans and leather black boots.
"Hey, Riley."Gwen remarked."I've missed you."
"Hi, Gwen."Riley answered, hugging her best friend back."I've missed you too."
Riley and Gwen headed inside the school to join the other students, who were doing their own things like going through their lockers, using their phones or chatting with one another.
"Did you have trouble with the homework?"Riley questioned.
"Piece of cake."Gwen replied smugly.
Riley smiled slightly at Gwen.
"You didn't do it, did you?"Riley said.
"I don't even know where my books are."Gwen sneered.
Riley opened her backpack and took out two books ('The Civil War' and 'Clouds of Glory: The Life and Legend of Robert E. Lee').
"They're here and they're heavy."Riley admitted.
Gwen took the books and placed them in her own backpack.
"You have to do the homework, Gwen."Riley reminded."The last thing I would ever want for you to stand out waiting for you to finish detention."
"Relax, Riley. Paul helped me out on it."Gwen assured."Believe me. My older brother may be heading to college and studying to become an engineer. But his pretty clever and quick when it comes to acing homework."
Riley gives Gwen a curious expression.
"I thought Paul wanted to become a historian."Riley said.
Gwen let out a light chuckle.
"Nah. His more into machines."Gwen declared."You could say your dad inspired him into try and create crazy inventions."
Riley looked down in thought.
"Must be nice to have an older sibling."Riley assumed.
"It is, Riles."Gwen answered and smirked at her best friend."And who knows? Maybe you'll become a big sister yourself one day."
"I don't know about that."Riley stated with a hint of uncertainty."My dad and Pepper may be a couple, but they're far bended knee to the altar. Then again, I could be my dad's only child."
"Really?"Gwen said in amusement."When is your dad's birthday?"
"May 29 1970."Riley answered.
"Ms Potts?"Gwen questioned.
"On April 10 1972."Riley replied.
Gwen thought for a moment before simply shrugging in respond.
"I'm not that strong in Maths, but it seems they both still have all the time in the world."Gwen declared with a wink.
Riley rolled her eyes before both she and Gwen light chuckled at each other before making their way inside their Music Class.
While Riley was the angel who keeps it safe, Gwen was more of the rebel who didn't believe in following the rules.
Even though they were nearly opposites, the two were extremely close and loyal to each other no matter their differences.
Peter Parker sat among his best friend, Ned Leeds and their other classmates in Science Class, listening to Mr Balmford as he talk about the Solar Energy.
Not many of the kids weren't fond of learning science like him except himself.
"Alright. I'm going to be asking some questions, but you kids have to tell me if it's true or false."Mr Balmford declared."John Herschel, a British astronomer, was the first person to use thermal energy from the sun to heat water."
Peter immediately raised his hand up.
"That's false, Mr Balmford."Peter declared."John Herschel was an accomplished chemist that discovered the action of hyposulfite of soda on otherwise insoluble silver salts in 1819, which led to the use of 'hypo' as a fixing agent in photography. In 1839, independently of William Henry Fox Talbot, Herschel also invented a photographic process using sensitised paper."
The other kids looked at Peter in awe while Mr Balmford smiled at Peter in approval.
"That's correct, Peter."Mr Balmford praised."Herschel was indeed an accomplished chemist."
Ned glanced at Peter.
"You learned all that by the book?"Ned whispered.
"Nah, I had help from Uncle Ben."Peter replied quietly.
Light from the Sun can reach the Earth is less than 10 minutes.
At the assembly room of Midtown West Middle School, Ms Reznick stood near the piano as Riley made her way onto the stage to sing.
"Riley, you're to practice without seeing the lyrics this time."Ms Reznick informed."Are you ready?"
Riley nodded at Ms Reznick with a determined look on her face.
"Yes, Ms Reznick."Riley assured firmly."I've practiced during the holidays and is fully ready."
Gwen stood near where the other students sat to watch Riley as she gives her best friend a grin and thumbs up for good luck.
Ms Reznick's hands moved to the keyboard of the piano and began to play the song 'Someone Like You' by Adele.
The theme of the song headed to the beginning of the lyrics causing Riley to open her mouth and start singing.
I heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things, I didn't give to you
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light
Riley sang so confident and as her voice filled the air, the other students' eyes widen.
Gwen, however, smirked smugly at their reaction.
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over
As Riley kept singing, she didn't realise both Peter and Ned carefully peeking their heads out from the entrance of the assembly room.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Riley got more into the song as she confidently held the microphone.
You know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
Gwen smiled proudly as she watched her best friend and turned her head a bit to glance at the entrance which showed Peter and Ned still listening to Riley sing.
I hate to turn up out of the blue, uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded that for me, it isn't over
As Peter looked on Riley singing, his eyes expressed a glimpse of admiration.
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you, too
Don't forget me, I beg
I remember you said
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead
Ms Reznick then stopped playing the piano and Riley placed the microphone back to where it was.
Immediately, Gwen and the other students cheered and clapped at the brunette.
Except for Sally Avril, who just scoffed and was unfazed by Riley's singing.
Riley smiled a little bit bashfully as she made her way off the stage to go up to her music teacher.
"So Ms Reznick did I sing well?"Riley asked.
"Your singing was amazing, Riley."Ms Reznick praised."You sang far more confident than the last time you were on stage. Keep that up and you might end up playing in the next school play."
"Thank you, ma'am."Riley thanked.
"Hey, Ms Reznick?"Gwen spoke up, earning everyone's attention."I thought there were only be the students you picked to attend your music class?"
Ms Reznick frowned. "What do you mean, Gwendolyne?"
Gwen smirked smugly and gestured her eyebrows to the entrance to the assembly room.
Ms Reznick followed Gwen's gaze and caught sight of Peter and Ned peeking by the door causing the two boys to scatter and head off.
Peter and Ned rushed to the hallway to blend with other students that were heading to their next classes.
"Hey, Ned."Peter said, looking at his best friend."You know that girl singing? Who was she?"
Ned looked at Peter with a somewhat dumbstruck look.
"Who is that? Dude, it's Riley Stark!"Ned admitted."Tony Stark aka Iron Man's daughter which means she's well-bred and rolling in money!"
Peter's eyes widen in utter surprise upon what he just heard.
The girl singing was the daughter of his favourite superhero!
"Seriously?"Peter asked."Tony Stark is her father?"
"Seriously."Ned answered and frowned."Come on, Pete. Her image is almost in every newspaper and magazine like her dad is. How can you miss that?"
"Because I usually read books that contain chapters."Peter admitted and smiled."Maybe we should try and make friends with her."
Ned simply chuckled and placed his hand over Peter's shoulder.
"Forget it, buddy."Ned informed."We're nerds. We don't belong in the in-crowd like she does."
Peter felt silent at his best friend's respond before the two of them headed off to their next class.
And here is the second chapter and I hope you all enjoyed it. Sorry that's kind of short. I'll make sure the next ones are longer! See you guys later and feel free to review!
