Take on the World
Chapter 5: The Avengers Initiative
Riley couldn't contain her excitement as she looked around the hallway of the Helicarrier that she and Tony were walking together.
The brunette wore an Eiffel Tower white t-shirt with a black military jacket designed with gold buttons, dark blue jeans and short purple plum coloured boots. Behind her back was her backpack.
"Okay, so I'm going to be one hundred percent honest with you right now."Riley remarked as she glanced at the agents who walked past her and Tony."This was not what I was expecting when you said we would be going on a trip."
Tony chuckled and ruffled Riley's hair a bit.
"Come on, Rye-Rye."Tony insisted.
Riley quickly fixed her hair a bit and followed behind her father as he began to explain everything that was going on.
It had to do with the whole Avengers case they had stayed up looking at the other night except now Loki was captured and all of the people that Riley considered to be called Avengers now that they were on the base as well.
They weren't quite sure what Loki's plan was, but the Tesseract and some people who had been taken by Loki were still missing.
Once Tony had finished, he turned to look at his daughter, who only nodded in response.
Tony chuckled softly and put a hand on Riley's shoulder before guiding her into the main room of the Helicarrier.
Upon walking in, everyone in the room turned to look at the two.
The rows of agents in front of a bunch of computers had even stopped their work to glance at the newcomers.
However, Riley didn't seem to notice.
Instead, her eyes found themselves locking on Natasha and Steve before she quickly ran over to her friends.
The brunette reached Natasha first who was already standing up and pulling the girl into a hug.
"Riley."Natasha greeted.
Riley looked up at her with her warm brown eyes twinkling in delight.
"Hey there, Natalie Rushman."Riley said teasingly.
Natasha playfully rolled her eyes at the girl before squeezing her one last time and letting her go.
Riley then turned to Steve and grinned widely as she ran over to the man.
"Steve!"Riley exclaimed joyfully.
Riley practically leapt into the super soldier's arms.
Steve chuckled and wrapped the girl up in a hug, neither of them noticing the confused look on Tony's face.
"Wait, what?"Tony asked, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion."You two know each other?"
Riley smiled at Tony.
"Uh, yeah. We're best friends."Riley admitted proudly."We met at Cal's Diner and ate some pecan pie together."
Tony glared at Riley at her respond causing the brunette to chuckle nervously.
"I love you, daddy."Riley remarked.
Tony rolled his eyes at Riley's respond.
"Yeah, yeah."Tony muttered.
Riley just grinned at him before her eyes then landed on Bruce, who was standing not too far away from her father.
Riley walked over to the scientist and smiled before hugging him as well.
Bruce jumped slightly in shock and Riley just hugged him tighter.
"Sorry, I'm a hugger."Riley admitted."I'm Riley by the way."
Bruce hugged Riley back.
"Bruce Banner."Bruce replied.
Riley's eyes lit up and she pulled away from the excitement in excitement.
"You're the Bruce Banner! Oh my gosh. I'm a big fan of yours!"Riley admitted, surprising Bruce."Besides doing art, I'm actually fond of science too!"
Bruce gave the brunette an impressed look, but she had already moved next to a tall blonde man that came into the room.
"Hi, I'm Riley."Riley greeted."What's your name?"
"I'm Thor Odinson."Thor answered."It's nice to meet you, Lady Riley."
Riley opened her arms to give Thor a hug.
Thor's eyes flickered over Riley's face before he looked over at Tony in amusement.
"She looks just like you, Man of Iron."Thor stated.
This caused Riley to chuckle.
"I get that a lot."Riley admitted and glanced down at Thor's outfit and smiled."I like your outfit."
"Thank you, it's from my kingdom back in Asgard."Thor exclaimed.
"You think you could get me one like that?"Riley suggested with a bright smile.
Thor opened his mouth to reply, but Tony had already walked over to the two and pulled Riley from his grasp.
"Whoa there, pumpkin. That's enough."Tony instructed as he brought Riley to a seat."You haven't even been here for five minutes and you've already hugged every person in this room and talked to each of them. We need to work. I only brought you because Pepper's in D.C. and I didn't want you to leave you home alone."
Riley looked up at Tony with a curious expression.
"Really?"Riley asked."I thought it was because of my dazzling personality."
This caused Riley to earn a few muffled chuckles from the team.
Tony rolled his eyes at his daughter, but the corners of his mouth still turned up slightly.
"Just sit and behave."Tony instructed."I promise you can go look around more and talk to them once we're done. Maybe you can even go say hi to that pirate guy."
"Mr. Fury is here?"Riley asked."That means I can-"
Tony frowned and raised an eyebrow at Riley.
"Fine."Riley answered and move her hand to close her lips."I'll zip."
Riley then proceeded to dramatically walk over to an empty seat next to Steve before letting out a huff and sitting down.
Tony rolled his eyes at her, but couldn't help but think that bringing his daughter on the ship was actually a good idea.
The billionaire's thoughts were interrupted by his phone going off.
He quickly pulled it out of his pocket and Riley watched as his eyes scanned over the screen before he put it away.
"I'll be right back."Tony said.
Riley sat up straighter and gave her father a questioning look.
"Pepper."Tony declared.
Tony disappeared out the door that the two of them had just walked through.
There was a moment of silence before Thor spoke up.
"Why did a seasoning make him leave?"Thor questioned.
This caused Riley to laugh lightly at the demi-god's respond.
"This Pepper isn't a seasoning."Riley explained."She's my dad's awesome girlfriend."
Thor's eyebrows furrowed in confusion.
"Your mother?"Thor asked.
Riley shook her head slightly.
"My birth mother passed away when I was still small."Riley admitted.
"I'm sorry, Lady Riley."Thor apologised with a look of regret."I didn't mean to-"
Riley cut Thor off with a wave of her hand.
"It's fine."Riley assured with a soft smile."You didn't know."
An awkward silence fell upon the group as they all looked at the girl who seemed to be staring off into space.
Natasha and Steve glanced at each other and seemed to be having a silent conversation before Steve sighed and lightly nudged the girl.
Riley hesitated before looking at the super soldier.
"You okay?"Steve asked.
The young brunette just nodded and plastered on a weak smile.
"I'm okay."Riley answered.
Despite Riley's respond, Steve knew better.
After all, he had been having to put on a fake smile ever since he got out of the ice.
However, Steve didn't get to say anything else to her because Natasha interrupted the silence.
"Fury is going to talk to him now."Natasha stated.
Riley perked up at that.
The brunette quickly leaned closer to Natasha so she could see the surveillance screen in Natasha's hands.
She could see Fury off to the side but her eyes were trained on the man who was in the center of some sort of cage.
The man who was brought to the cage had silky black hair, piercing steel blue eyes and was dressed in green and black attire.
Riley knew almost instantly who the man was.
Loki.
The crazy guy from another realm that attempted to take over her planet.
"In case it's unclear, you try to escape, you so much as scratch that glass."Director Fury stated.
Director Fury looked at Loki, who was trapped inside of the giant cage.
He walked over to a console and pressed a few buttons causing the floor below the cage to disappear.
The team watched as Loki looked down in amusement.
"30,000 feet straight down in a steel trap."Director Fury declared."You get how that works?"
Director Fury then closed up the floor.
"Ant."Director Fury said, gestured towards Loki and then gestured towards the console."Boot."
Loki chuckled inwardly, not seeming scared of being caged like some kind of animal.
"It's an impressive cage."Loki praised."Not built, I think, for me."
"Built for something a lot stronger than you."Director Fury informed.
Everyone glanced at Bruce, who let out a soft sigh in response.
Riley frowned.
She felt bad for Bruce.
It wasn't like he had intended to create the Hulk and now he was forced to keep his emotions in check all of the time unless he wanted a giant green beast on the loose.
"Oh, I've heard."Loki remarked smugly, glancing at the screen."The mindless beast, makes play to be the man."
The group looked back down at the video to see Loki looking right at the camera.
Loki smirked before looking back over at Director Fury.
"How desperate are you?"Loki questioned."You call on such lost creatures to defend you."
"How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war. You steal a force you can't hope to control. You talk about peace and you kill cause it's fun."Director Fury commented as he walked closer to the cage."You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did."
"Ooh. It burns you to have come so close."Loki sneered evilly."To have the Tesseract, to have power, unlimited power. And for what? A world for all mankind to share? And then to be reminded what real power is."
Director Fury looked unfazed by the God of Mischief's declaration.
"Well let me know if real power wants a magazine or something."Director Fury suggested.
This caused Riley to stifle back a laugh.
Director Fury then walked away and the team watched as Loki looked back at the camera with a small smile on his face before the screen disappeared.
Everyone was silent for a moment before Bruce spoke up.
"He really grows on you, doesn't he?"Bruce asked sarcastically.
Riley chuckled at that causing Bruce to smile, but everyone else ignored it.
"Loki's gonna drag this out."Steve complemented and looked at the Thunder God."So, Thor, what's his play?"
"He has an army called the Chitauri."Thor admitted."That none of Asgard nor any world know. He means to lead them against your people. They will win him the Earth. In return, I suspect, for the Tesseract."
"An army from outer space."Steve said in disbelief.
Riley patted the super soldier's shoulder.
"Welcome to 2012, Cap."Riley remarked.
"So he's building another portal."Bruce concluded."That's what he needs Selvig for."
This caused Thor to look at Bruce in surprise.
"Selvig?"Thor questioned.
"He's an astrophysicist."Bruce explained.
"He's a friend."Thor stated.
"Loki has him under some kind of spell."Natasha declared bitterly."Along with one of ours."
"Why would Loki let you take him?"Riley asked.
This caused the whole group to look at the young brunette.
Riley felt a little shy, but kept her confidence.
"My dad was telling me about how you captured him and all. It seems to me like he wasn't even putting up a fight."Riley responded."I mean, he can't lead an army from here."
"True. But I don't think we should be focusing on Loki, Riley."Bruce stated with a small smile."Not that you are wrong in any way, but that guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You could smell crazy on him."
"I care how you speak."Thor retorted, his voice laced with annoyance."Loki is beyond reason, but he is of Asgard and he's my brother."
"He killed eighty people in two days."Natasha informed with a stone faced expression.
Thor froze for a moment.
"He's adopted."Thor admitted.
"I think its about the mechanics."Bruce suggested.
Riley smiled. "The Iridium?"
Bruce nodded his head.
"Exactly."Bruce agreed."What did they need the Iridium for?"
"It's a stabilising agent."
The team quickly turned their heads to see Tony walking in with Agent Coulson and some other agents.
"Means the portal won't collapse on itself, like it did at S.H.I.E.L.D."Tony explained and looked at Thor."No hard feelings, Point Break, you've got a mean swing."
Tony patted Thor's arm and the Thunder God sent him an annoyed look in return.
"Also, it means the portal can open as wide and stay open as long, as Loki wants."Tony complemented.
Riley watched her father in amusement as he walked up to the main console of the area.
"Raise the mizzenmast."Tony continued."Jib the topsails."
Some of the agents gave the billionaire weird looks, but he ignored it.
"That man is playing galaga!"Tony remarked and pointed on his left causing everyone to look over at a man whose face was bright red."Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did."
Tony looked down at the screens on the console before covering one of his eyes.
The billionaire frowned before looking at Agent Hill.
"How does Fury even see these?"Tony asked.
"He turns."Agent Hill replied.
"Sounds exhausting."Tony muttered.
"Dad."Riley spoke up with a bored look and Tony turned to look at her."You're going off topic again."
"Right, sorry."Tony replied before going back to the main subject."The rest of the raw materials, Agent Barton can get his hands on pretty easily. Only major component he still needs is a power source. A high energy density, something to kick start the cube."
"When did you become an expert in thermonuclear astrophysics?"Agent Hill questioned.
"Last night."Tony answered cockily, earning a small groan from his daughter."The packet, Selvig's notes, the Extraction Theory papers. Am I the only one who did the reading?"
"Does Loki need any particular kind of power source?"Steve asked.
"He'd have to heat the cube to a hundred and twenty million Kelvin just to break through the Coulomb barrier."Bruce declared.
"Unless, Selvig has figured out how to stabilise the quantum tunnelling effect."Tony added.
"Well, if he could do that he could achieve Heavy Ion Fusion at any reactor on the planet."Bruce complemented.
Tony grinned. "Finally, someone who speaks English."
"Is that what just happened?"Steve asked.
Riley let out a small laugh, but her father's gaze quickly shut her up.
Tony walked over to Bruce before holding out a hand to him.
"It's good to meet you, Dr. Banner."Tony remarked."Your work on anti-electron collisions is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster."
Riley frowned at Tony's declaration.
"Dad…"Riley warned with a frown.
"Thanks."Bruce answered slightly.
Director Fury then arrived in the meeting room.
"Dr. Banner is only here to track the cube. I was hoping you might join him."Director Fury exclaimed before noticing Riley."I didn't know Miss Stark would be joining us as well. But she would be probably be just as big as a help for the two of you."
Riley smiled and looked over to her father for permission.
Tony let out a sigh.
"Fine, Rye-Rye."Tony stated."You can help."
"Yes!"Riley cheered in delight.
Riley made her hands into fists in triumph as Tony rolled his eyes and gave the team a 'What else can I do?' look.
"Let's start with that stick of his."Steve suggested."It may be magical, but it works an awful lot like a HYDRA weapon."
"I don't know about that, but it is powered by the cube."Director Fury said."And I'd like to know how Loki used it to turn two of the sharpest men I know into his personal flying monkeys."
"Monkeys?"Thor asked in confusion."I do not understand."
"I do!"Steve admitted.
This caused everyone to look at the super soldier with surprised expressions.
Steve smiled. "I understood that reference."
Riley smiled at Steve in amusement before glancing at the others.
"That's a first."Riley praised.
Tony rolled his eyes at Steve and Riley before looking at Bruce.
"Shall we play it, Doctor?"Tony suggested.
"This way, sir."Bruce instructed.
Tony was about to follow Bruce, but then called out for his daughter.
"Rye-Rye!"Tony called out.
"Coming!"Riley assured before getting off her seat."Bye, Steve! Bye, Nat! It was nice meeting the rest of you!"
Riley ran after Tony and Bruce, making her disappear around the corner, leaving the rest of the group to wonder how someone bubbly and sweet like Riley could be Tony's daughter.
Bruce moved one of the tools around Loki's sceptre with a look of disbelief on his face while Tony and Riley watched.
"The gamma readings are definitely consistent with Selvig's reports on the Tesseract."Bruce exclaimed."But it's gonna take weeks to process."
Riley sat on a nearby table to take out her iPad from her backpack.
"If we bypass their mainframe and direct a reroute to the Homer cluster, we can clock this around six hundred teraflops."Riley remarked.
Bruce looked over at Riley with a surprised expression, shocked that the young girl in front of him was not even a teenager yet and was smart as he was.
Tony leaned over to whisper something at Bruce.
"Yeah, my kid is pretty much a genius."Tony whispered."Though I attend to give her away until she's in her 30s."
"I heard that!"Riley snapped.
Tony chuckled slightly as he moved away from Bruce as Riley started to play 'Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: World Tour' in her iPad.
Though the brunette smiled and quietly watched her father and Bruce working together.
Riley then placed her iPad on the table and started spinning the chair she was on.
"You know what?"Riley asked."I think I figured out what Horn Head's other plan for taking over Earth might be with using his glow stick of destiny."
This caused Tony and Bruce to look at Riley.
"You mean Loki?"Bruce assumed.
"The names Horn Head or Reindeer Games suit him better, Uncle Bruce."Riley admitted, moving her hands over her head to make them represent horns."I think beside world domination, he may be planning to introduce battle horns as the next hot fashion accessory."
Tony snickered and Bruce laughed lightly at Riley's respond.
"Whoa there, kiddo."Tony chuckled, moving towards his daughter."Since when did Dr Banner became your uncle?"
"Why not?"Riley asked while putting the game on her iPad off."His a nice guy like Uncle Rhodey and Uncle Phil."
"Do you really have to call all the 'nice guys' you see uncle, pumpkin?"Tony questioned.
"It's called bringing more members to our little family."Riley declared with a hint of pride."And besides, Uncle Bruce is your science bro."
Tony raised an eyebrow. "Science bro. How so?"
"Just when both of you thought of being singled out on the Helicarrier for being absolutely mad scientists, you two met each other and then this whole bromance kicks off!"Riley remarked while holding her head in admiration."You two are like Science guys in college, who are always high!"
Riley brought her attention on Bruce.
"What do you think, Uncle Bruce?"Riley asked.
"That's a pretty good opinion."Bruce praised.
Tony gives Bruce a look.
"Come on, Banner."Tony complemented."You're supposed to be on my side."
Riley gives her father a smirk.
"Can't be helped."Riley sneered."Uncle Bruce prefers the popular side."
"Since when did my side become not popular?"Tony asked.
"Because I'm the amazing Riley Stark!"Riley declared proudly while waving her hands up in a dramatic way."Everyone adores me!"
Tony rolled his eyes at his daughter while Bruce smiled at the duo, seeing how close they were.
The billionaire shook his head as he made his way back to the scientist.
"Anyway, what were we talking about?"Tony asked.
"Riley said something about bypassing the mainframe."Bruce exclaimed."And as good of an idea that is, all I packed was a toothbrush."
"You know, you should come by Stark Towers ten floors, all R and D."Tony suggested."You'd love it, it's candy land."
Riley immediately became excited.
"Please do!"Riley insisted."I bake sweets!"
Bruce smiled at Riley before looking away.
"Thanks, but the last time I was in New York, I kind of broke Harlem."Bruce admitted.
"Well, I promise a stress free environment."Tony assured."No tension. No surprises."
Tony then poked Bruce in the side of his waist with a mental instrument.
"Ow!"Bruce groaned.
"Dad!"Riley scowled.
Tony looked at Bruce with a wondering expression.
"Nothing?"Tony asked.
"Hey!"Steve snapped while glaring at Tony as he came into the lab."Are you nuts?"
"Yes, Steve, he is."Riley responded with a frown."But just won't admit it."
Tony ignored his daughter and looked at Bruce.
"You really have got a lid on it, haven't you? What's your secret?"Tony asked."Mellow jazz? Bongo drums? Huge bag of weed?"
Bruce glanced at Riley, who simple had ears covered, not wanting to hear what her father was saying.
"Is everything a joke to you?"Steve questioned.
"Funny things are."Tony and Riley answered in unison.
Tony shot Riley a look, but the brunette simply smiled at her father.
"Threatening the safety of everyone on this ship isn't funny."Steve reminded and glanced at Bruce."No offence, Doctor."
"No, it...it's alright."Bruce assured."I wouldn't have come aboard if I couldn't handle pointy things."
"You're tiptoeing, big man."Tony praised in amusement."You need to strut."
"And you need to focus on the problem, Mr. Stark."Steve retorted.
"You think I'm not?"Tony asked."Why did Fury call us and why now? Why not before? What isn't he telling us. I can't do the equation unless I have all the variables."
"You think Fury's hiding something?"Steve assumed.
"It makes sense."Riley complemented as she opened her Twinkie Cake Bar."He is a spy."
"She's right."Tony agreed."Captain, he's the spy. His secrets have secrets. It's bugging him too, isn't it?"
Tony looked over at Bruce, who was just trying to get some work done.
Riley frowned in thought as she munched on her Twinkie Cake Bar and made her way to get her iPod.
What if Director Fury was hiding something?
Something that he didn't want others to know.
Riley then simply shrugged, seeing no point of having possible guesses.
"Uh, I just wanna finish my work here and-"Bruce started.
"Doctor?"Steve asked.
"A world for all mankind, Loki's jab at Fury about the cube."Bruce said.
"I heard it."Steve responded.
Bruce gestured towards Tony.
"Well, I think that was meant for you."Bruce stated.
Tony frowned and held out a bag of blueberries to Bruce, who quickly took some before continuing.
"Even if Barton didn't post that all over the news."Bruce admitted.
"The Stark Tower?"Steve commented with a smile."That big ugly..."
Tony quickly turned around and glared at Steve.
"Building in New York?"Steve finished.
"It's powered by Stark Reactors, self sustaining energy source."Bruce exclaimed."That building will run itself for what? A year?"
"That's just the prototype."Tony said simply."I'm kind of the only name in clean energy right now."
"So why didn't S.H.I.E.L.D. bring him in on the Tesseract project?"Bruce questioned."I mean, what are they doing in the energy business in the first place?"
"I should probably look into that once my decryption programme finishes breaking into all of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secure files."Tony suggested.
"I'm sorry, did you say-"Steve started.
"J.A.R.V.I.S. has been running it since I hit the bridge."Tony exclaimed."In a few hours we'll know every dirty secret S.H.I.E.L.D. has ever tried to hide. Blueberry?"
Before Steve could give Tony a respond, Riley grinned in delight.
"Done!"
The three men turned to look at the girl in confusion as she grinned up at them.
"Done with what, Rye-Rye?"Tony asked.
"Hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D."Riley explained.
Tony shook his head as he walked over to the girl.
"There's no way."Tony denied."My decryption isn't even half way through yet."
"Don't mean to make you feel down, dad, but your decryption is slow."Riley explained as she scrolled through the files."And I'm already done and over here leisurely scrolling through the files."
"How did you?"Bruce questioned.
"Oh, just some simple coding, Uncle Bruce."Riley remarked."Its walls were so easy to get past. And it just so happens-"
Riley began to ramble on about how simple it was to break the walls while Bruce and Steve looked over at Tony, who was watching his daughter with a look of shock and pride on his face.
"When did you learn how to code?"Tony asked.
Riley smirked at her father.
"Last night."Riley admitted gleefully.
Tony rolled his eyes at the girl before grabbing her iPad.
He had just begun to scroll through the files when her iPad's screen suddenly went black.
"What?"Tony scoffed.
Riley quickly stood up and sighed at the sight of her dead iPad.
"Oh. Oops. It just died. Well, that's a bummer."Riley commented as she grabbed her iPad and set it on the table."Guess we'll have to wait another few hours for your slow decryption to be done."
Tony playfully glared at Riley, but the brunette just smiled and stole some of the dried blueberries from his small snack bag.
"I think Loki's trying to wind us up."Steve assumed."This is a man who means to start a war and if don't stay focused, he'll succeed. We have orders, we should follow them."
Tony shook his head.
"Following is not really my style."Tony admitted.
Riley nodded in agreement.
"It's true."Riley agreed smugly."Pepper once told him to follow her to get somewhere and he went a different direction just because she said to follow her one way."
Tony nudged Riley slightly, but Steve wasn't listening to the brunette.
Steve frowned. "And you're all about style, aren't you?"
"Of the people in this room, which one is; a-wearing a spangly outfit, and b- not of use?"Tony questioned.
"Steve, tell me none of this smells a little funky to you?"Bruce questioned.
Steve looked at Bruce before looking back at Tony.
"Just find the cube."Steve reminded.
Steve ruffled Riley's hair as a goodbye before leaving the lab.
As soon as Steve was gone, Tony let out a groan.
"That's the guy my dad never shut up about?"Tony retorted."How could my parents liked him?"
"Well, I like Steve."Riley remarked proudly.
"Well of course you do, pumpkin."Tony said with a frown."Because he became your study buddy. Speaking of which, how did you even meet Capsicle?"
"I looked through Grandpa Howard's photo albums and immediately recognised his face."Riley admitted with a bright smile.
Tony frowned. "I regret having to given you that on Thanksgiving."
Riley lightly chuckled at her father's reply.
Tony looked back at the door that Steve had walked out of before shaking his head.
"Wondering if they shouldn't have kept him on ice."Tony said.
"The guy's not wrong about Loki, he does have the jump on us."Bruce stated.
"What he's got is an acme dynamite kit."Tony remarked."It's gonna blow up in his face, and I'm gonna be there when it does."
"And I'll read all about it."Bruce responded.
"I'm with you, Uncle Bruce."Riley chuckled.
"Or you'll be suiting up like the rest of us."Tony suggested.
Riley perked up at that and Tony instantly shook his head.
"I'm talking to Banner, Rye-Rye."Tony corrected."You're going no where near the fight, you got that?"
Riley huffed and sat back down in her chair while Bruce chuckled softly.
"Ah, see. I don't get a suit of armour."Bruce replied."I'm exposed, like a nerve. It's a nightmare."
"You know, I've got a cluster of shrapnel, trying every second to crawl its way into my heart."Tony declared.
The billionaire froze slightly when he saw Riley tense up at that.
He knew she was thinking about the time he had been talking to her on the phone before there was a loud explosion and he hadn't been able to respond.
Also, from what Pepper and J.A.R.V.I.S. had told him, that whole experience had been tough on his daughter.
Tony shook his head before looking at Bruce and pointing to the arc reactor in his chest.
"This stops it. This little circle of light."Tony said."It's part of me now, not just armour. It's a terrible privilege."
"But you can control it."Bruce reminded.
"Because I learned how."Tony informed and glanced at Riley, who was looking back at him while raising an eyebrow at him."With some help."
Tony looked back at Bruce.
"And you'll get help too."Tony insisted."You don't have to do it alone."
"I've gotten help, but my situation…it-it's different."Bruce commented.
"Hey, I've read all about your accident."Tony declared."That much gammer exposure should have killed you."
Riley frowned at her father's declaration as Bruce let out a harsh chuckle.
"So you're saying that the Hulk, the other guy, saved my life?"Bruce questioned, confused at what Tony meant."That's nice. It's a nice sentiment. Saved me from what?"
"I guess we'll find out."Tony remarked with a smile.
"You may not enjoy that."Bruce warned.
"You just might."Tony replied.
Riley quietly finished the last piece of golden sponge snack cake with creamy filling before she began fiddling with her powered down iPad.
She wanted to ask Bruce what had happened, but decided against it, knowing that it wouldn't help the situation.
But the young brunette knew he was still shaken of having the Hulk as an alter ego which kind of reminded her of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
However, despite all the negative comments she had been hearing about the Hulk, she believed the Other Guy within Bruce was not bad as others claimed himself to be.
The Hulk was to be part of the Avengers Initiative.
What other reason would Director Fury recruit Bruce for?
