I don't own Avengers or its characters. I only own Riley Stark and other OCs that appear in the story.

Take on the World

Chapter 31: Vision

Riley didn't really know how to feel upon returning back to the Avengers Tower.

As soon as Director Fury came to visit them in Clint's safe house, the Avengers set out while going in groups the next day.

Steve took a group and to go out to Dr Helen Cho's lab, following a lead on Ultron.

Meanwhile, Tony would be heading to Nexus to figure out if the team had an ally instead of just an enemy of Ultron.

But Riley wasn't alone in the base of operations for the Avengers.

She had Bruce to give her company.

After taking a shower, the Stark heiress went to place on some new fresh clothes; maroon red overalls and a black top with floral embroidered sleeves and white red trainers.

Not long after, Clint came back with a regeneration cradle that contained some kind of robot inside and Riley became shocked upon learning that Natasha got captured.

It took Clint about two minutes to calm Riley down when she freaked out after learning her favourite S.H.I.E.L.D spy was taken.

But, out of the entire team, Natasha was the strongest and Riley knew she could handle herself.

Riley made her way to the lab which was where her father and Bruce were.

"Hey, dad. Has Uncle Clint found anything on Aunt Nat and…"Riley started and quickly became distracted by her father and Bruce doing something with the cradle."What are you and Uncle Bruce doing?"

"Something completely stupid or genius. But can you really be that surprised, Rye-Rye? It's me."Tony remarked while typing on his computer."This framework is not compatible."

Riley simply stood there, trying to process what was actually happening.

"Dad, are you seriously trying to create another smart robot to defeat the other smart robot that you and Uncle Bruce also created?"Riley questioned in disbelief.

"The genetic coding tower is at 97%."Bruce exclaimed, earning a glance from Riley."You have got to upload that schematic in the next three minutes."

Bruce then checked the pipes connected to the cradle.

Riley suddenly heard the sound of heavy steps entering the room.

The young brunette looked up to see Steve standing across the lab with Pietro and Wanda behind him.

Riley couldn't help but feel excited to see the Maximoff twins face to face since she immediately believed that they switched sides and joined the Avengers.

"It's cool to finally meet you both in person, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff."Riley admitted kindly."I'm Riley."

Both Pietro and Wanda looked at Riley with equally confused expressions, neither of them expecting a teenage kid to be helping the Avengers.

"What's a kid like you doing here?"Pietro asked.

Riley frowned. "I'm fourteen, speedy."

The Stark heiress then focused immediately back on her father and Bruce, who seemed too busy to activate what was inside the cradle.

"I'm gonna say this once..."Steve started in a warning tone.

"How about none-ce?"Tony responded.

Riley frowned. "Dad."

"Shut it down!"Steve ordered.

"Nope."Tony answered while walking away from the computer."Not gonna happen."

"You don't know what you're doing."Steve argued.

Bruce glared at Steve.

"And you do?"Bruce retorted before gesturing to Wanda."She's not in your head?"

Wanda stepped forward from behind Steve.

"I know you're angry-"Wanda spoke up.

"Oh, we're way past that."Bruce scowled."I could choke the life out of you and never change a shade."

"Banner, after everything that's happened-"Steve started.

"It's nothing compared to what's coming!"Tony argued.

"You don't know what's in there."Wanda stated.

"This isn't a game!"Steve snapped.

Suddenly, Pietro used his super speed to disconnect the computers and the pipes from the cradle.

"No, no. Go on."Pietro teased, tossing aside one of the tubes."You were saying?"

Pietro suddenly fell through the glass floor, right where Clint was.

"Pietro!"Wanda called out.

Then the computers started beeping, catching everyone's attention for a moment.

"I'm rerouting the upload."Tony admitted.

Tony immediately began typing on his keyboard until Steve threw his shield at the computer servers.

The billionaire summoned one of his hand repulsors to him and blasted Steve in the chest.

Riley was shocked at what she was witnessing.

Were the Avengers really arguing with each other in a time of crisis?

"Stop it! All of you!"Riley shouted despite knowing no one was listening to her."Please!"

Bruce clasped Wanda in a choke-hold before she used her magic to free herself and blast him away.

Riley got ready to use her repulsors in order to protect herself from having her mind being messed up, only for Wanda to simply put her hands up in defence.

"What exactly is in that cradle?!"Riley demanded.

"Ultron and Dr Cho's creation!"Wanda replied.

Riley paled at Wanda's declaration.

"But why is my dad and Bruce are trying-"Riley thought.

Before Riley could do anything, Thor slid into the room and jumped onto the cradle.

The God of Thunder lifted up his hammer to summon a bolt of lightning into the lab, making everyone turned their heads from the big brightness in the room.

"Wait!"Bruce yelled out.

Thor redirected his lightning into the cradle, powering it up.

After a few seconds, Thor stopped his lightning and we all stood in silence, trying to figure out what he just did.

All of the sudden, something broke out of the cradle, sending Thor crashing through the glass.

A red figure then arose from it with steam surrounding him.

Riley's eyes widened a bit in shock and confusion.

The red creature looked around and down at his hands before eyeing Thor.

It suddenly charged at him to attack, but Thor threw it through the glass and out to the living area.

The creature was sent flying across the room, but immediately stopped in front of the large window.

Thor jumped down from the balcony followed by Steve.

But Thor held up his hand, signalling Steve to stand back.

From the lab, Riley could see the creature staring out to the city.

It looked confused.

Thor set his hammer down on the table as the creature hovered down to the floor.

Riley rushed down to the living room area to stand next to Tony.

"I am sorry."Vision apologised, looking at Thor."That was...odd. Thank you."

Riley became curious upon hearing the robot speak like J.A.R.V.I.S.

Vision then formed a yellow cape that flowed behind its back.

"Thor, you helped create this?"Steve questioned.

"I've had a vision."Thor admitted before pointing to the yellow gem set inside the creature's forehead."A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life and at its center is that."

"What?"Bruce asked."The gem?"

"It's the Mind Stone. It's one of the six Infinity Stones."Thor explained."The greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities."

A dumbstruck look appeared on Riley's face.

Now there was a robot holding one of the most powerful things in the entire universe?

"Then why would you bring-"Steve questioned.

"Because Stark is right."Thor interrupted.

"Oh...it's definitely the end times."Bruce assured.

"The Avengers cannot defeat Ultron."Thor stated.

"Not alone."Vision added.

Steve glanced at Tony.

"Why does your Vision sound like J.A.R.V.I.S?"Steve asked.

Riley brought her attention to her father with a glimpse of awe.

"Did you make J.A.R.V.I.S into a robot, dad?"Riley assumed.

"No, pumpkin."Tony answered."We reconfigured Jarvis's matrix to create something new."

Riley's smile shrunk a bit, but her silence meant she approved on what her father and Bruce did.

They uploaded J.A.R.V.I.S. which survived Ultron's earlier attack by escaping into the internet into the synthetic body as an attempt to rectify their mistake with Ultron.

"Better than nothing."Riley murmured.

Pietro and Wanda silently glanced at each other.

The twins were silently surprised that Riley was actually Tony's daughter.

"I think I've had my fill of new."Clint admitted.

"You think I'm a child of Ultron."Vision stated.

"You're not?"Steve interrogated.

"I'm not Ultron. I am not J.A.R.V.I.S. I am..."Vision started and thought for a moment."I am."

Tony, Riley, Bruce, Clint, Thor, Steve, Wanda and Pietro all gave each other confused looks.

Wanda went up to Vision.

"I looked in your head and saw annihilation."Wanda suggested.

"Look again."Vision instructed.

Clint scoffed. "Her seal of approval means jack to me."

"They're powers. The horrors in our heads. Ultron himself. They all came from the Mind Stone."Thor warned."And they're nothing compared to what it can unleash. If we have the Mind Stone on our side-"

"Is it? Are you?"Steve questioned, looking at Vision."On our side?"

"I don't think it's that simple."Vision answered.

"Well, it better get real simple real soon."Clint assured.

"I am on the side of life. Ultron isn't."Vision declared."He will end it all."

"What's he waiting for?"Tony asked.

Tony glanced at Tony.

"You."Vision answered.

Riley clasped her father's hand with a comforting yet tight squeeze.

If Ultron wanted her father, he had to deal with her first.

"Where?"Bruce asked curiously.

"Sokovia."Clint answered."He's got Nat there too."

Steve slowly started walking towards Vision to stand closer to him.

The super soldier was guilty of allowing his girlfriend to get captured and would never forgive himself if anything happened to her.

"If we're wrong about you, if you're the monster that Ultron made you to be..."Steve warned.

"What will you do?"Vision demanded.

This caused Steve to become silent.

"I don't want to kill Ultron. He's unique and he's in pain."Vision explained."But that pain will roll over the Earth. So, he must be destroyed. Every form he's built, every trace of his presence on the net. We have to act now. And not one of us can do it without the others."

Vision turned around to look at the others standing together.

"Maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd know if I were one."Vision commented and looked down at his hands in curiosity."I'm not what you are and not what you intended. So, there may be no way to make you trust me. But we need to go."

Vision then casually lifted Mjølnir off the side table to hand it to Thor.

Riley's mouth drop in shock as she and the others all stood in the room in awkward silence.

Thor confusingly grabbed his hammer before Vision walked right past him like it was nothing.

"Well, I'm not the type of girl who usually trusts someone right after I meet them."Riley thought honestly."But I guess I'll make an exception."

"Right."Thor replied awkwardly and tapped his hand against the side of his hammer."Well done."

Thor patted Tony on the back and walked away.

"Three minutes."Steve ordered."Get what you need."

This caused everyone before they all split up to prepare for the fight.

Tony brought his attention on Riley as the two of them walked away together.

"Rye-Rye-"Tony started.

A sigh escaped from Riley's mouth.

"I know. Stay in the jet."Riley responded with a hint of disappointment."Got it."

"Riley, do you think you're ready to go out there with us?"Tony questioned.

"Yeah, I do."Riley answered.

"Then suit up."Tony declared.

A stunned look appeared on Riley's face.

Did she just hear her father agree to let her join the fight against Ultron?

"What?"Riley murmured, being thrown off guard.

"We're gonna need all the help we can get to take down Ultron."Tony complemented and planted a kiss on Riley's forehead."So, suit up."

Riley smiled in approval.

Her father was finally letting her join the battle to save the world.

"Thanks, dad."Riley thanked.
