Chapter 34

Christine smiled as soon as she heard the welcome sound of the baby's heartbeat. Mike kissed the top of her head and smiled down at her. The baby was still small but they had done genetic tests just to make sure all was fine so far. Just then, Dr. Gregory, her OB-GYN came in and gave them a smile.

"First of all, the heart rate sounds good. And we already have the blood work back. Would you like to know the gender?" Dr. Gregory asked.

"Is the baby okay?" Christine asked.

"Perfectly healthy from what we are seeing right now. There will be further tests later." Dr. Gregory answered.

"Then as long as the baby is healthy; we would want to know the gender?" Mike remarked.

"Well…its a baby girl! Congratulations!" Dr. Gregory said before showing them the test results. Mike and Christine exchanged a smile and kiss.

"I think she's going to be an active one too. She's all over the place." The ultrasound tech said. Dr. Gregory looked at the screen and smiled.

"So…due to your age we will do monthly check ups and as you get closer–weekly. Further along, we will also do an amniocentesis just to make sure." Dr. Gregory said.

"We did one with Levi too." Christine said.

"Alright. So, just take it easy. Rest." Dr. Gregory instructed as they cleaned the ultrasound jelly off of Christine's stomach. Mike helped her sit up and then off the exam table.

"Mike and the girls are really spoiling me. Levi may struggle a bit." Christine remarked.

"He does like naps with us so that'll help." Mike said.

"Here's an ultrasound photo." The tech said.

"Thanks." Christine said as she put it in her purse.

"You're welcome." The tech said. Mike and Christine headed out of the room and Christine made her next appointment before they headed home.

"Are you disappointed that the baby is a girl?" Christine asked Mike.

"No. I am actually thrilled. I was hoping for a girl. I love Levi…and Lucas still but I was really hoping for a little girl." Mike admitted.

"And you're not just saying that for my benefit?" Christine asked.

"No. Levi is all about cuddling at the moment but he won't for much longer. A little girl likes to cuddle longer. Even Katie likes to cuddle up every now and then, even now." Mike said.

"That is true." Christine replied.

"I think the girls will be excited too." Mike said.

"Hannah especially. Katie's just excited to be a big sister again." Christine remarked.

"She is excited." Mike replied.

"You and she are really doing good." Christine said.

"I still worry about her." Mike admitted.

"Me too." Christine agreed. She reached over and patted Mike's knee.

"She asked me yesterday when I would make her move out. I told her when she's about eighty." Mike said.

"Its going take her some time. Some of it is ingrained." Christine warned.

"Yeah, I suppose so." Mike said as he pulled into their driveway.

"Don't give up now. Trust me; you are doing amazing with her." Christine said as they both got out of the truck. He grabbed her hand and they walked into the house. Katie, Hannah and Levi were playing on the floor.

"Is everything okay?" Katie asked as she stood up.

"Baby is healthy and seems to be thriving." Mike answered.

"And you're okay, Mom?" Hannah asked.

"I am…and the baby is a girl." Christine answered and Hannah whooped excitedly.

"That's great! I have so many ideas for a nursery for a baby girl. There's these wallpapers with big flowers on them; so pretty and her clothes are so cute." Katie said.

"Yay!" Levi said, picking up on the excitement as he toddled to Mike. Mike washed his hands and picked Levi up.

"Will Levi get lonely being the only boy?" Katie asked.

"He will be fine. Lucas loved being the only boy." Christine remarked. It was true. Lucas revelled in the attention and Levi already had his sisters wrapped around his little finger.

"Yay!" Levi said again.

"Sweetheart, everything will be fine. He might feel a bit jealous for a bit but it'll line out." Christine assured Katie.

"I remember when we had Hannah. The first six months, anytime you saw me or your mom holding her; you'd scream. But, you two are just fine now." Mike commented.

"Really?" Katie asked.

"Yeah. The jealousy was pretty intense." Christine answered.

"That's funny. Katie's the most unjealous person ever." Hannah remarked.

"Do you girls want pizza for supper?" Mike asked.

"Yay!" Levi said.

"It sounds good to me." Katie answered.

"Sounds good." Hannah replied.

"Christine?" Mike asked.

"I want the garlic parmesan wings and one of the dessert pizzas and no pepperoni. It gives me heartburn." Christine said.

"Yes, ma'am." Mike said. He leaned down and gave her a kiss before passing Levi over to her. "I'll call the order in." Mike said.

"Dad, there's these things called apps. I could install it on your phone?" Katie offered. It was the first time she had been remotely sarcastic to Mike and he smiled down at her.

"Here?" Mike handed her his phone and debit card.

"This could be dangerous." Katie teased before she sit down on the couch with Mike's debit card and phone.

"Hey–there's that perfume you said you liked and I liked those boots!" Hannah said. Both girls turned around and looked at Mike and then giggled behind their hands.

"That might be a costly mistake." Christine remarked.

"I'm just glad they are acting like a normal twenty year old and fifteen year old." Mike replied.

"Me too." Christine agreed. He gave her another kiss and wrapped his arms around her and Levi.
