Challenge of the Samurai, Part 3
When we last saw Ash and Jake, they had just encountered a boy who calls himself Samurai who challenges them to a Pokémon match. Jake was able to defeat Samurai easily. But when Ash battled Samurai, his Pidgeotto was easily defeated by his Pinsir due to it already being exhausted. Luckily he was able to defeat Pinsir by having his Metapod use Harden. Then Ash and Samurai battled with their Metapods which lasted the whole afternoon. Suddenly a swarm of Beedrills appear
The swarm of Beedrills got closer to the group and Samurai
"Samurai's right. It is a swarm of Beedrill" said Jake
Ash took out his Pokédex to look up info on Beedrills
Ash's Pokédex: Beedrill. This Pokémon is an evolved form of Weedle, following its Kakuna stage. It's sting is highly poisonous.
"The Weedle that got away from you has informed the rest of it's kind. Good day!" said Samurai as he took off
Just then one of the Beedrills swooped in and grabs Metapod
"Oh no! Ash, one of them got your Metapod!" shouted Green in alarm
"Metapod, return now!" said Ash as he tries to return Metapod to it's Poké Ball. Unfortunately, Ash misses as he tries to do that. The Beedrill that has Metapod goes deeper into the forest.
"It got away" said Ash in dismay. One the Beedrill charged at him. Jake saw this
"Bulbasaur, knock that Beedrill away with your Tackle!" he commanded
"Bulbasaur!" said his starter as it knocks the Beedrill away with it's Tackle. Then another Beedrill flew at them. Ash's Pikachu Thundershock it which also shocks Ash as he was too close in range. This scares it off and leaves Ash in a daze.
"Come on. Let's move it" said Misty as she dragged Ash away
"Right behind you" said Jake as he and Bulbasaur takes off
"Hey, wait for me!" said Green as she runs after them
The group were running away from the Beedrill swarm that were chasing them
"First a flock of Spearows, and now a swarm of Beedrills? Why does this have to happen to us!?" complained Jake
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur as it runs alongside it's trainer
"Flock of Spearows?" asked Green in confusion
"It's a long story, Green. Let's just it say that it happened when Ash and I started our journey together" said Jake
Green nods her head at this
Ash was looking around the forest. He was worried about his Metapod
"But... Metapod" he said in worry
"We'll worry about Metapod later, Ash. Right now, we need to lose these Beedrills!" said Jake as he, Bulbasaur, and Green picked up the pace.
It wasn't long until they caught up to Samurai who is still running. The Beedrill swarm was still hot on their tail.
"They're gaining on us!" shouted Misty
"Then we better run faster!" yelled Jake
"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur as it kept running
As the group continue to run faster to get away from the swarm, Samurai then hid behind a bush. Ash Jake, their Pokémon, and the girls also joined him behind the bush. The Beedrills flew past the bush as the group was sighed in relief.
"I think we're safe" said Green
"I wouldn't be too sure of that" said Jake as he looks ahead. The group also look in front of them. It was a tree with many yellow cocoon like Pokémon.
"It's a whole hive of Kakunas" whispered Samurai
Misty starts to shriek but Jake covers her mouth and shushes her
"What's with her?" Green asked as she notices Misty's reaction
"Misty is afraid of bugs" answered Jake silently
"Oh" said Green
Ash takes out his Pokédex and scans the Kakunas
Ash's Pokédex: Kakuna, a transitional stage between Weedle and Beedrill. Kakunas remain inactive until they evolve into deadly Beedrills and hatch.
Jake then notices something by the tree
"Ash, look" he whispered as he points at something. Ash looks to where his friend is pointing and sees his Metapod by the tree
"Hey, over there! It's Metapod!" he shouted until Misty covers his mouth
"Keep your voice down!" Misty whispered loudly
"Yeah, you want them to hear us?!" whispered Jake
Just then, the Kakunas spot them. The five trainers and their Pokémon watch as the Kakunas' shells begin to crack and they begin to evolve into Beedrills.
"That's not good" gulped Jake
"Bulba" Bulbasaur said in fright
"Beedrills! They've evolved!" said Misty nervously
The Beedrills then flew at them as they prepare to attack the intruders.
"RUN!" shouted Green
The group then ran for it with the Beedrills in hot pursuit. As they were running, they were getting close to a nearby cabin
"My cabin! I think we can make it!" shouted Samurai
The group ran faster, raced inside the cabin, and shut the door. Two of the Beedrills then stuck their stingers through the door making some holes in it. The other Beedrills have surrounded the cabin waiting for their prey to come out.
"Phew. That was close" said Ash in relief
"For a second there. I thought we were goners" said Jake
"Bulbasaur" sighed Bulbasaur
"Yeah. At least we'll be safe in here." added Green
"I hope you learned your lesson, novice" said Samurai as he took off his outfit. "You letting that Weedle escaped almost cost our lives"
"Take back that novice crack!" demanded Ash
"I do take it back. Because not even a novice would abandon his own Pokémon as you did." said Samurai
"If I recalled correctly. It was you that tried to attack my friend with that fake sword when he was trying to catch Weedle! And if you hadn't distracted him in the first place, the Beedrill swarm wouldn't have abducted Metapod and chase us all the way here! You're the one to blame for this mess!" yelled Jake
"Ha, I will not be lectured by someone who falsely blames me for something..." began Samurai until Jake interrupted
"It's the truth and you know it, buddy!" yelled Jake as he got close to Samurai's face which causes him to flinch a bit. Misty and Green were watching the conversation in worry
"I tried to save Metapod." said Ash
"Chu" said Pikachu
Jake then turned his attention to Ash
"Maybe you would've saved Metapod if you didn't shout in the first place, Ash! If I were you, I would've snuck over and got Metapod out of there instead of giving myself away like that!" he scolded
This caused Ash to hang his head in shame
"Oh, Jake" Green said with a frown
"Your Metapod will pay for it's trainer's inexperience. The other trainers from Pallet would never have been so irresponsible" stated Samurai
"Other trainers from Pallet? Have you fought Pokémon matches against Gary?" asked Ash
"And Elaine too?" asked Jake as turned his attention to Samurai
"Ah, there were three spectacular matches. Each more challenging than the last. Those trainers really know how to raise Pokémon. Even though I was defeated all three times, I was inspired to re-double my own training. I have been eagerly preparing for that day when finally, I would beat the next Pokémon trainer from Pallet." said Samurai as remembered his past battles with other trainers.
'I guess Gary and Elaine made it through the forest already' thought Jake
"So that's why you've been waiting for Ash and Jake to show up" said Misty as she and Green stood up
"Indeed. Compared to those three and his friend, novice here is a joke" said Samurai
This caused Ash to grit his teeth in anger and Jake to become annoyed by what Samurai said to his friend. Green looked at the two in worry.
That night, Samurai, Misty, and Green were fast asleep in their sleeping bags. Green has her own sleeping bag which is a light blue color. Jake was in his own sleeping bag with Bulbasaur sleeping beside him. Ash was wide awake in his sleeping bag thinking about his Metapod as his Pikachu slept next to him. Just as he was about to sleep, Jake notices Ash quietly walking outside the cabin. He decides to follow him
Ash was sitting on the ground looking up at the night sky
"Metapod" he said
"Ash?"
Ash turned around to see his friend walking out and sitting next to him
"Oh, hey Jake" he said sadly
"What are you doing sitting out here?" Jake asked
"I was just thinking about Metapod. Along with what Samurai said about Gary, Elaine, and the others" answered Ash
"You're worried about Metapod, are you?" asked Jake knowingly
"Yes. " said Ash glumly as he turns to his friend. "You know you were right, Jake"
"About what?"
"You were right about what you said when you scolded me about Metapod. If I'd kept my mouth shut, I would've snuck over to that tree and rescue him. But instead, I acted recklessly and gave away our position." said Ash as he was in tears
Jake continues to listen to his friend
"I just wish that I was a better trainer like you, Jake. So I wouldn't be making so many mistakes. And Metapod would still be with us" continued Ash as he begins to cry
Seeing his friend crying, Jake puts a hand on Ash's shoulder
"It's okay, Ash. As I said before, you're just starting out. All you can do is learn from your mistakes so you can do better next time" said Jake
Ash smiles and nods his head
"Thanks, buddy"
"No problem" said Jake "First thing in the morning, we're gonna get your Metapod back"
"Right" said Ash
The two friends look at the starry sky
"The stars look really nice tonight" said Jake
"They sure do, buddy" said Ash. He then turns to Jake
"Say, Jake. Remember our dreams of being Pokémon Masters?"
"How can I not remember. We both have that dream since we were young" Jake replied
"Yeah. But there can only be one Pokémon Master. That means someday we're gonna have to battle each other" said Ash
"That's true, Ash. But hey, if one us wins or loses, we will still be best friends right?" Jake asked
"Always, buddy" answered Ash
The two boys smiled as they continue to watch the starry night. Unbeknownst to them, Green was by the doorway listening in on their conversation. She smiled warmly at the friendship between Ash and Jake.
The next morning, Ash and Jake peeked out from behind a tree. They looked around to see any signs of Beedrills. But they were all gone. Bulbasaur and Pikachu were not with them as they have left them back at the cabin
"The coast is clear. Let's move" whispered Jake
The two boys then walked through the forest. Just then, someone puts her hands on their shoulders
"Hey guys" said Green
Both Ash and Jake screamed as they turn to see Green
"Green, you almost gave us a heart attack" said Jake as he was panting
"Sorry" Green said with a giggle
"What are you doing here?" asked Ash
"To accompany you guys. I couldn't help but overhear you two talking about rescuing Metapod last night." replied Green
The two boys look at each other
"Well if you want to come with us, Green. Go ahead" said Jake with a smile
"But try to stay close to us. Okay?" added Ash
"Sure" replied Green
The three trainers then made their way to the tree where the Beedrills and Kakunas are resting. They hid behind the tall grass. They see Metapod still hanging on the tree unharmed
"Great. Metapod is still here. Let's get in there and rescue him" whispered Jake
But before they can do anything, Meowth jumped on Ash's head which makes him yelp. This alerts both Green and Jake
"Do you know what Meowth's favorite game is?" he asked
Jake grabs Meowth and throws him aside making Meowth yelped.
"Scat, Meowth!" he yelled
Meowth hits the ground with the grunt
"Hey, what's the big idea interrupting my joke?" Meowth complained
"Did that Meowth just speak?" asked Green in surprise
"He sure did, Green" said Ash as he recovered from Meowth's ambush. "And if Meowth is here then that means..."
"Guess who?!" called James
"Oh no!" said Ash and Jake as they looked up to see Jessie and James. Green also looked up in confusion
"Prepare for trouble!" said Jessie
"Make it double!" said James
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people from within our nation!"
"To denou-"
"Not again! Not now" Ash interrupted which makes Jessie mad
"Grr. Never interrupt the Team Rocket motto!" she snapped with a tick on her head
"Who are those guys?" asked Green
"They're Team Rocket, Green. A bunch of criminals that steal Pokémon whether they're owned or wild" explained Jake
"So they're thieves" said Green as she glared at them
Jake nods his head as he also glares at them. Jessie clears her throat as she and James said their mottos louder
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Keep it down before you wake up the Beedrills" said Ash silently.
"Yeah, shut up!" whispered Jake. But Jessie and James still said their mottos even louder
"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
"Meowth, that's right!"
But no sooner did they finish their motto, the Beedrills all woke up and flew out. Ash screams in panic as both Jake and Green looked on in fright
"Not good" said Green
Team Rocket didn't seem to notice them as they were too busy demanding the boys' Pokémon.
"Little boys, give us your Pikachu and Bulbasaur. There's no use trying to resist us. So be smart and hand over your Pokémon" said Jessie
"And while your at it. You can give us the Pokémon that girl has" said James as he looks at Green who grits her teeth
"We don't have Pikachu and Bulbasaur with us. And even if we did, we'll never give them or any of our Pokémon to you! Now get away from us!" shouted Jake as he ran off
"Wait up, Jake!" said Ash as he and Green ran after him
"Come back here!" shouted Jessie and James in unision as they and Meowth gave chase
"What's the plan?" asked Green as they were running up to the Beedrills
"If we can get past those Beedrills, they'll dive bomb Team Rocket" explained Ash
"Good plan, Ash. But we're gonna have to time it right" said Jake
As Jessie and James chased them, the three trainers got closer to the Beedrills
"Okay, now!" shouted Ash
Ash, Jake, and Green dive down to avoid the Beedrills stingers. The Beedrills then turned their attention to the Team Rocket trio causing them to gasp in shock. But they remained confident
"That tank will surely come in handy now" said Jessie with a smirk
"It was worth the struggle dragging it here" said James as he takes it out
Unfortunately, a bunch of Weedles were eating it, much to Jessie and James' shock. It turns out the tank was made out of cardboard box.
"Meowth! They're eating the tank!" shouted Meowth
"But we made it from paper to reduce the weight" said James
"Ugh, who knew!" said Jessie in annoyance
"Numbskulls!" insulted Meowth
The Beedrill swarm flew at them. The Team Rocket trio screamed and ran away with the swarm chasing after them.
"Phew. That takes care of them" said Jake as he watches the trio leave
"Yeah. Now we can get Metapod" added Green
The three trainers got up and ran over to Metapod
"There you are, Metapod" said Ash as he enlarges his Poké Ball. "Here. Get into the Poké Ball"
But Metapod shook it's head
"Aw man. I think you hurt Metapod's feelings by running off without it yesterday, Ash" said Jake sadly
"Metapod" said Ash
Green hears buzzing and turns around. She widens her eyes
"Um guys?" said Green. Ash and Jake turn to see a Beedrill diving at them.
"We got to move" said Jake as Ash picked up his Metapod. The three trainers then started to run
"I didn't abandon you, Metapod! I just got sidetracked! It was all Samurai's fault!" Ash explained to Metapod. But he then trips and fell to the ground causing him to drop Metapod.
"Ash!" shouted Jake
"Metapod!" shouted Green
"No, it wasn't Samurai's fault. It was my fault. If I was a better Pokémon trainer like my friend, I'd stop making all these excuses. From now on, I swear. I'll never run away and leave my friends behind again." Ash vowed which makes his Metapod tear up as it is touched by it's trainers apology. Even Jake and Green smiled as Ash apologizes to his Metapod
As Ash was about to go pick up his Metapod, but then they heard buzzing as another Beedrill was coming at him with it's needle arms out.
"Oh no!" shouted Jake
"Watch out!" shouted Green
Misty, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Samurai came in. Samurai holding a bug net so they wouldn't get hurt
"Ash! Jake! Green!" shouted Misty
"Watch out for the Twineedle attack!" warned Samurai
"Pikachu!" Pikachu shouted
"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur in worry
Jake gritted his teeth and rans up to his friend
"Jake!" said Green in worry
Jake got in front of his friend and took out a Poké Ball, preparing to battle Beedrill.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur cried out to it's trainer
As the Beedrill got closer, Metapod leaps over Jake and blocks the Beedrill's attack which breaks one of Beedrill's needle arms. Jake and Ash were shocked at what happened. Ash ran over and caught his Metapod.
"Oh my" said Jake in astonishment
"Metapod" said Ash as he notices a cut in Metapod's shell. The Beedrill then flew away.
"Are you hurt? Are you okay, Metapod" Ash asked as Green, Misty, Samurai, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu walk over to the two boys
Then a light came out of Metapod's shell which suprises everyone
"Is Metapod...?" asked Green
"Yes, Green. Metapod's evolving" answered Jake
Just then a butterfly-like Pokémon emerged from the shell and flew into the air
"Free free" he said
"I don't believe it. Ash, your Metapod evolved into Butterfree" said Jake in amazement
"Butterfree" muttered Ash in astonishment
"Oh wow!" said Green as she looks at how beautiful Butterfree is
"It's so beautiful!" said Misty in amazement
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur
"Pikachu" said Pikachu
They were both proud that their friend has finally achieved it's dream. Ash then takes out his Pokédex and scans his new Butterfree
Ash's Pokédex: Butterfree. One week after Caterpie evolves into Metapod, it again evolves into Butterfree.
Jake smiles as he watches his friend watching his new Butterfree flying around. Unfortunately, the celebration was interuppted when more Beedrills flew up and charge at them.
"Here come the other Beedrills!" shouted Misty
"Not again!" yelled Green
Jake and Ash looked at each other and nod their heads. They then stood next to each other to battle the swarm. But before they can do that, Butterfree came up to Ash. It chirps bravely as it said that it wants to battle the Beedrills.
"Butterfree?" asked Ash
Butterfree then begins to chirps as it wants Ash to use it's new move. Ash understood what his Butterfree wants him to do and begins to give the order
"Okay. Butterfree, knock them out with your Sleep Powder!"
Butterfree flew high into the air and begins to spread powder from it's wings on his enemies. One by one, all of the Beedrills dropped to the ground and fell asleep. The Sleep Powder even hits the Weedles that were eating up Team Roket's cardboard tank along with the Team Rocket trio.
"Yay! You put them all to sleep! Butterfree, your the best! Hurray!" cheered Ash as he and his Butterfree celebrated their victory
"You were able to handle your Butterfree so well, just after it evolved. Most impressive" said Samurai looking impressed
"Heh heh. Way to go, buddy" said Jake as he watches Ash and Butterfree continue to celebrate
Bulbasaur then runs over and leaps into Jake's arms.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said
"Yes, Bulbasaur. I'm okay" assured Jake
They then turn to a Beedrill sleeping near them. Seeing an opportunity to catch another Pokémon, Jake puts Bulbasaur down and takes out an empty Poké Ball from his bag.
"Poké Ball, go" he said as he tosses his Poké Ball at the sleeping Beedrill. The Poké Ball hits Beedrill and sucks it in. After shaking two times, the Poké Ball stops.
"Oh yeah, we got ourselves a Beedrill, Bulbasaur" said Jake as he held up his newly captured Pokémon
"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur
Green smiled as she watches Jake captured Beedrill. She was starting to admire him as a blush appeared on her face.
Samurai then led the four trainers to the way out of Viridian Forest.
"This trail will lead you to Pewter City" Samurai told them
"Thanks for showing us the way, Samurai" thanked Jake
"But we still have to finish our match" reminded Ash
"Compared to you and your friend, I am the novice. But I will keep perfecting my technique. And one day, we will meet again" said Samurai
"I'm sure it will be a most spectacular match" replied Ash
"That is guaranteed" said Samurai
"Just promise not to match Metapod vs. Metapod again" said Misty
"Pika" Pikachu said as he nods his head
"Misty, Ash's Metapod is a Butterfree now. There won't be a match like that again" reminded Jake
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur as it nods it's head. Green chuckles at this
"Until then, Samurai" said Ash as he waves goodbye
"See you later" said Jake
"See ya!" said Misty
"Bye" said Green
The four trainers waved goodbye and then started on the trail to leave the forest. Samurai watches them go
"Farewell" he responded
As the trainers walked on the trail, Green races up to Ash and Jake.
"Hey Ash, Jake!" she called
Ash, Jake, Misty, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu stopped and look at her
"What is it Green?" asked Jake
"Can I come with you guys?" asked Green
"Why?" asked Ash curiously
"Ever since I met you guys in Viridian Forest, I saw how you two got along with each other so well and how you were willing to protect each other. It reminded me of how lonely I was back at home. So I figured if I stuck around with you guys, maybe we can all be friends. So can I please join you guys?" Green explained as she asks to come
Ash, Misty, and Jake both looked at each other and then smiles at her. Even Bulbasaur and Pikachu smiled at Green
"Sure, Green. The more the merrier" said Jake
"Yeah. I say we're already friends" added Ash
"Plus, I won't be the only girl in this group" said Misty
"Bulbasaur" said Jake's Bulbasaur
"Pikachu" said Ash's Pikachu
Green smiles with joys
"Yes, thank you!" she said as she begins to hug Jake which makes him blush
Misty and Ash smiles at the scene. Bulbasaur smirks as he sees the possibility of his trainer and Green becoming a couple while Pikachu giggles at this. Green then realizes what she is doing and let's go while she is blushing.
"So... Shall we get going?" she asked
"Yeah. Let's go." said Jake as he shook off the blush
And so, Ash and Jake's group have successfully recovered Ash's Metapod who then evolves into Butterfree and even gained a new traveling companion. Together, the group of four set off on the trail to their next destination.
That concludes the final part of Challenge of the Samurai. Ash has a Buterfree while Jake got himself a Beedrill in Viridian Forest. Not only that, but Green has officially joined the group. Hope you enjoy!
