Showdown in Pewter City, Part 2
Previously on Pokémon: Adventures in Kanto, Ash, Jake, and their friends finally arrived at Pewter City where they meet a strange man named Flint. After he escorts them to the Pokémon Center, Ash and Jake sees a poster for the Pokémon League Championships and plans to enter it together. Ash and Jake, accompanied by Green then enter the Pewter City Gym where they meet Brock the gym leader. Ash first challenges Brock to a gym battle by having his Pikachu battle against Brock's Onix. Unfortunately, due to Ash's Pikachu having a disadvantage against Onix, he gets himself in a tight situation. Ash is forced to forfeit the match because of this. Luckily, Flint helped Ash's Pikachu get better and offers to help power him up. While he does that, it is Jake's turn to challenge Brock. Will he succeed or will he fail?
Jake is walking down the trail with Bulbasaur by his side. He had just went back to the cabin to pick up his starter Pokémon before he can head to the Pewter Gym. Green was following behind them.
"Remind me again why you're coming with us, Green?" asked Jake
"Is it wrong for me to support a friend like you? You are challenging Brock to a gym match after all" said Green
"Hmm. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have some support." said Jake
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur
"By the way, Green. How come you never told us that you were from Viridian City?" asked Jake curiously
"You never asked" giggled Green
"Oh" said Jake
They then finally arrived at the Pewter Gym.
"Well. This is it" said Jake as he opens the door. They walked inside the gym which is dark
"Brock! Show yourself!" called Jake
The lights then came on to reveal Brock
"So you showed up after all" he said
"Of course I did. Why wouldn't I? I am here to have that gym match with you" said Jake as he narrows his eyes
"I defeated your friend and his Pikachu easily. What makes you think you would be a challenge?" asked Brock
"Because I always know what Pokémon to use. Also, I watched Ash's match with you and I can tell that you use Rock Types" answered Jake
"I see. Well you won't stand a chance against me with that Bulbasaur of yours. Just like your friend, you're gonna lose this match" said Brock cockily
"You would be wise not to underestimate me, Brock. My Pokémon are stronger than you know" stated Jake
Green and Bulbasaur smiles at this
"We'll just see about that. As the gym leader here, I will accept your challenge. The same rules will apply. Two Pokémon each!" said Brock
The rocks then formed together as Jake and Brock got ready for their battle. Green sat on the sides to spectate
'Be careful, Jake. I hope you don't end up like Ash' she thought
"So, Jake. Are you ready?" asked Brock
"Bring it on, Brock! Let's do it" said Jake with a smirk
The bell rings to begin the gym match
"I'll start the battle off. Geodude, I choose you!" said Brock as he throws a Poké Ball. It opens to reveal a rock like Pokémon with arms.
"Geodude" it said
"Geodude" said Jake as he took his Pokédex out
Jake's Pokédex: Geodude, the Rock Pokémon. Commonly found near mountain trails, etc. If you step on one by accident, it gets angry.
'I guess he must be saving his ace Pokémon for later' he thought as he puts his Pokédex away. He then turns to Bulbasaur
"Get in there, Bulbasaur" Jake told his starter
"Saur" said Bulbasaur as it got into the battlefield
"Sending out your starter already? Let's see what it can do. Geodude, use Tackle attack!" ordered Brock
Geodude leaps at Bulbasaur
"Bulbasaur, dodge and use your own Tackle!" ordered Jake
Bulbasaur leaps away from Geodude's attack. Bulbasaur then knocks Geodude back with it's Tackle
"Use your Growl, Bulbasaur!" commanded Jake
Bulbasaur growls at Geodude which startles it
"Geodude, pull yourself together and use another Tackle attack!" commanded Brock
Geodude snaps out of it and charges at Bulbasaur. It tackles Bulbasaur which sends it back and hitting a rock.
"Bulbasaur!" gasped Jake
"Now, grab Bulbasaur and use your Seismic Toss!" yelled Brock
Geodude leaps over, grabs Bulbasaur, and leaps into the air. Both Jake and Green gasp
'Oh no. If Seismic Toss works, then Bulbasaur will take even more damage' thought Jake
"Do it, Geodude!" yelled Brock
Geodude throws Bulbasaur down. Bulbasaur screams as it falls down.
"BULBASAUR!" said Jake and Green in unison
Before Bulbasaur can hit the ground, Bulbasaur suddenly shot out vines from it's bulb. The vines hit the ground which stops Bulbasaur from impacting the ground which surprises everyone.
"Whoa. Bulbasaur learned a new move" said Green in surprise
"Yeah. Vine Whip" said Jake in awe
"Impossible!" said Brock in surprise as Bulbasaur went back on the ground
"Bulbasaur, are you okay?" asked Jake
"Saur saur" answered Bulbasaur which makes it's trainer smile
"Bulbasaur, use your new Vine Whip to grab Geodude" said Jake which makes Brock gasp
Bulbasaur stretches his vines and grabs Geodude which lifts it up.
"Now toss it back!" ordered Jake
Bulbasaur throws Geodude making it hit a nearby rock
"Okay Bulbasaur. Tackle attack. Full power!" ordered Jake
Bulbasaur charges in and uses Tackle which sends Geodude flying into the air
"Geodude!" cried Brock
Geodude fall back down and hits the ground. It's eyes are swirled meaning it is defeated
"Alright. Jake defeated one of Brock's Pokémon" said Green with a smile
Brock returns Geodude to it's Poké Ball
"Not bad. But now you will face my next Pokémon. Onix, go!" said Brock as he threw his next Poké Ball
Onix comes out and roars
"Onix" muttered Jake as he looks at Brock's Pokémon. He looks at Bulbasaur
"Bulbasaur, return!" he called
Bulbasaur heard him and went back to it's trainer
'What is he up to?' thought Brock
Jake then takes out another Poké Ball
"Vaporeon, I choose you!" yelled Jake as he throws his Poké Ball and lets out his Vaporeon
"Vaporeon!" said Vaporeon
"A Vaporeon? I didn't know he had that" said Brock in surprise
"Of course. Water Types are strong against Rock Types" said Green
Brock snapped out of it and got serious
"Well no matter. Onix, use your Tackle attack!" ordered Brock
Onix leaps at Vaporeon
"Use your Quick Attack to dodge, Vaporeon!" said Jake
Vaporeon uses Quick Attack to get out of Onix's way
"Now Water Gun!" said Jake
Vaporeon shoots Water Gun at Onix which causes it to major damage
"Onix, shake off the attack and use Bind" commanded Brock
Onix begins to circle it's body around Vaporeon. Jake saw this.
"Hurry Vaporeon! Jump onto Onix's body and climb onto it's head!" ordered Jake
Vaporeon did as Jake commanded. It leaped onto Onix's body and begins to run up to it's head much to Green and Bulbasaur's confusion.
"I don't know what you're up to, but I'm gonna put a stop to it. Onix, shake Vaporeon off!" Brock commanded
Onix begins to shake it's head to get Vaporeon off. Vaporeon struggles to hang on. Just then, Jake has a plan
"Vaporeon, Water Gun on Onix's head!" he said
Still hanging on, Vaporeon shoots Water Gun on Onix causing it to take a lot of damage.
"Onix, no!" shouted Brock in concern
Onix then begins to fall down with Vaporeon still on it's head. As Onix landed on the ground, Vaporeon leaps off. Onix is struggling to get up
"Come on Onix, get up!" urged Brock
But Onix drops down due to the damage it has taken. The bell rings
"Looks like I win. Good work, Vaporeon" Jake said to Vaporeon
"Vaporeon" said Vaporeon happily as it jumped into Jake's arms
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur
"You did it, Jake! I'm so proud of you!" said Green as she ran up to them
"Heh. Thanks, Green" said Jake
Brock smiles and returns Onix
"Onix, return. Thanks for a good battle. Take a rest" the gym leader said. He then walks up to Jake
"I have to say, Jake. You have surprised me in our battle back there. You also raised your Pokémon well."
Jake and his Pokémon smile at this
"Here. This is proof of your victory against me: The Boulder Badge" said Brock as he took out an item from his pocket and hands it to Jake
"Thanks, Brock" said Jake as he takes the badge. He looks to his Pokémon
"Look at this, guys! Our first gym badge!"
"Vaporeon!"
"Bulbasaur!"
Green smiled at this
"So are you going to move onto the next city?" asked Brock
"Actually, Brock. I'm gonna wait for my friend to battle you afterwards" replied Jake
"I see" said Brock
"Just a heads up, Ash is going to surprise you in his rematch against you." Jake said
"I'll keep that in mind." said Brock
They said their farewells and Jake, his Pokémon, and Green made their way out of the gym
Back at the Pokémon Center, Jake and Green were in the waiting room as Jake's Pokémon was getting healed up
"Congratulations on getting your first gym badge, Jake" said Green
"Thanks, Green. But I have a few more badges to collect. If I want to enter the Championships, then me and Ash will have to train very hard" said Jake
"That's true. Perhaps I can help you train if you're okay with it" offered Green
"Sure thing, Green" said Jake with a smile
Green smiled back
"Hey guys"
The two turned to see Misty as she sat in the chair opposite of where they're sitting
"Hi, Misty" Jake and Green said
"So, Jake. How did your battle with Brock go? Did you lose?" asked Misty teasingly
Jake gave her an annoyed look
"Not quite, Misty. See for yourself" said Jake as he showed her his Boulder Badge
Misty was surprised
"Impossible! You really won?!"
"It's true, Misty. I witnessed it myself. Jake really showed his stuff when he battled against Brock. He really knows which Pokémon to use when facing those Rock Pokémon" said Green
"I see" said Misty
"By the way, Misty. How is Ash?" asked Jake
"Oh that. I just saw Ash training to power up Pikachu's Electric attacks. I tried to offer my help to him, but he insists on continuing with this crazy plan of his" said Misty looking annoyed herself
"He is kinda stubborn that way" replied Jake
"Yeah, but he still won't stand a chance against Brock" said Misty
"Don't count Ash out yet, Misty. There's a chance he might surprise you" said Jake
Green smiles at him. She admired Jake's faith in Ash
The next morning, Ash, Jake, and Green along with Bulbasaur and Pikachu were outside the Pewter Gym
"Well, this is it. Wish us luck guys" said Ash
"Good luck, buddy" said Jake
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur
"Be careful with those Rock Pokémon." said Green
Ash opens the door
"I'm back!" he shouted
Brock then walks up
"Haven't you learned your lesson yet?" he asked sternly
"We're ready for you this time, Brock!" yelled Ash as his Pikachu lets out a spark from his cheek
"Heh. We'll see" said Brock
Ash and Brock took their positions as their gym battle starts again. Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur were standing behind Ash
"Two Poké Balls each" reminded Brock
"Got it" replied Ash
"I'll start with, Geodude! Go!" yelled the Pewter Gym leader as he lets out Geodude
Ash turns his cap and throws one of his Poké Balls
"Pidgeotto, I choose you!"
Pidgeotto is sent out and faces Geodude
"Go, Pidgeotto! Gust attack!" ordered Ash
Pidgeotto flew around to use Gust. But it didn't do anything. Geodude then begins to attack Pidgeotto much to Ash's bewilderment
"Aw man, Ash should've known that Flying types are weak against Rock types also" said Jake with a face palm
"Saur saur" said Bulbasaur shaking it's head
"Come on, Ash. Use your head" whispered Misty who was sitting in the rafters. Just then, Brock's many siblings appeared
Geodude has just defeated Pidgeotto, who has hit the ground with swirls in it's eyes
"Pidgeotto, return!" said Ash as he recalls Pidgeotto
"Are you giving up again, Ash?" taunted Brock
"No way! Pikachu, I choose you!" Ash told Pikachu
"Chu" Pikachu said as he raced into battle
"The Pikachu again. I feel sorry for it. Being raised by such a weak Pokémon trainer" said Brock sarcastically
What Brock said caused Jake and Green to glare at him for insulting Pikachu
"Pikachu, now's our chance to show him how weak we are!" yelled Ash
Hearing this, Pikachu unleashes an electric attack on Geodude which explodes. This leaves Geodude charred and it drops. Jake and Green gasped at this
"Whoa! How did that happened?" asked Green
"I guess this must be the result of Ash supercharging Pikachu" said Jake
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur in amazement
Brock was shocked by what he just seen as he begins to recall what Jake said to him last night. He takes out Geodude's Poké Ball
"Return, Geodude"
Brock returns Geodude to it's Poké Ball
"It looks like you've trained it better. But still, it's no match for Onix! Go!" said Brock as he throws another Poké Ball and lets out his Onix
"Here we go again" said Jake
Seeing Onix again, Pikachu begins to unleashe his boosted electric attack which hits Onix, nearly zapped Ash, hits part of the battlefield, and some nearby lights which catches on fire.
"Oh my" said Green as she saw this
"Hey Pikachu! Watch where you're aiming huh?!" scolded Ash.
This caused Pikachu to stop his attack, but this also allows Onix to wrap his tail around Pikachu and crush him with Bind
"Pikachu, give it a Thunderbolt!" commanded Ash
Pikachu unleashes Thunderbolt which seems to damage Onix. Onix continues to bind Pikachu as it still feels the pain from the Electric attack.
"Hang in there, Pikachu! It's working!" cried Ash
"Onix, Bind it!" ordered Brock
Both Pokémon continue to use their attacks. Pikachu begins to feel exhausted as it used up his energy allowing Onix to put more pressure on Pikachu
"No, not again!" yelled Jake as he remembered what happened during Ash's last battle with Brock
"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur in worry
"Pikachu" said Ash in worry
As Onix continues to crush Pikachu. Ash couldn't take it, and is about to call off the battle when...
"Onix, stop!" yelled Brock
Onix did what Brock said and lets go of Pikachu, who has swirls in his eyes. Ash, Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur were surprised by this.
"No Brock! I wanna play this match to the end" said Ash
"There's no point in going on. I really don't wanna hurt your Pokémon" responded Brock
Jake was a little surprised by what Brock said. Suddenly, the sprinklers went off which caused great pain for Onix. Ash, Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur were surprised
"What just happened?" asked Green
"It would seemed that there was fire on one of the lights and it must've hit the sprinkler up in the ceiling" said Jake
"Ash, Rock Pokémon are weakened by water!" called Misty
"Pikachu!" said Ash
Getting what Ash is saying, Pikachu unleashes a Thunderbolt which greatly damages Onix due to it being soaked. Onix then falls over
"Onix!" yelled Brock
"Wow" said Green
"I guess that's one way to beat a Rock type like Onix" said Jake
"Saur" said Bulbasaur
"Pikachu, finish it off!" said Ash as he raised his hand, but then someone grabs his hand
"My conscience is holding me back! I can't bring myself to beat Brock! I'm imagining his little brothers and sisters stopping me from beating the one person they love!"
"Um, Ash. They really are doing that" said Jake
"You might want to open your eyes" added Green
Ash opens his eyes to see all of Brock's siblings holding onto him to prevent him from battling
"You leave Onix alone. My brother worked hard on raising it you big bully!" said one of the brothers
"Believe me, kid. I'm no bully" responded Ash
Brock walks over to them. He was annoyed at his siblings interfering with the match
"Stop it. Get off, all of you. This is an official match and we're going to finish it, no matter what" said Brock sternly
"But Brock! We know that you love your Pokémon so much!" protested one of his sisters
"That's why we can't watch Onix suffer from another attack, like it suffered from that Vaporeon" said one of his brothers
Jake widens his eyes as he heard the brother say that.
'I guess they must've saw the match between me and Brock'
Ash recalled when Brock stopped Onix from Binding Pikachu any further. The young trainer then made his decision
"Pikachu, return!"
Pikachu heard Ash's command and rushes back to him
"What do you think you're doing? This match isn't over yet, Ash!" snapped Brock as Ash got all of his siblings off him
"Those sprinklers going off was just an accident. Winning the match because of that wouldn't prove anything. Next time we have a match, I'll beat you my way fair and square" he said
Ash and Pikachu then left the gym with Jake and Bulbasaur following after him. Green smiles as she watches them go
"Maybe" muttered Brock as he watches them go
Jake and Ash were walking down the lane with Bulbasaur and Pikachu following them
"I'm sorry I was too tough on you, Pikachu. But you really did a great job" Ash said to Pikachu
"Pikachu"
"Sounds like you feel just the way I do" said Ash
"I have to admit, Ash. You really made a smart decision when you called off the battle" said Jake
"Well it's like I said, Jake. The sprinklers going off was an accident. I'll win that gym match again fair and square" said Ash
"I'm sure you will" responded Jake
"Hey! Ash! Jake! Wait up you two"
The two boys turn to see Brock run up to him. Following him is Green
"Brock?" said Ash
"What are you doing here?" asked Jake
"You forgot this" answered Brock as he showed the Boulder Badge in his hand
"A badge? For defeating a gym trainer? I can't accept that. I didn't beat you. I gave up" said Ash as Green walks up to the boys
"Nah, I lost to you. You beat me in battle and being kind to all Pokémon" said Brock
The group were surprised by what Brock said. Brock then turns to look at the sunset
"To tell you the truth, I get more pleasure from raising Pokémon then from making them battle. I don't care about being a great Pokémon trainer. I want to be the world's best breeder" admitted Brock
"That's a great goal, Brock" said Green
"But if that's what you really want, Brock. Then how come you're the Gym Leader?" asked Jake
"I have to look after my brothers and sisters. Ash, I want you to take this and fulfil my dream. Will you do that for me?" asked Brock as he gives Ash the badge
"I will. And I'll do my best to deserve this too" said Ash as he took the badge
Flint then appears
"Brock, you go follow your own dreams" he said
"Flint?!" said Ash in surprised
Flint then took off his hat and beard. His face resembled Brock's but a little older
"My father" said Brock
Ash, Jake, and Green gasped
"You mean you're the good-for-nothing father who left home and never came back!?" asked Ash in shock
"That's right. It was me. I couldn't become the great Pokémon trainer I wanted to, and because I was such a failure, I was too embarassed and ashamed to go back to my family" responded Flint
"But if that's the case, why did you help Ash instead of Brock?" asked Jake
"He reminded me of myself. He didn't seem to have a chance" answered Flint
Ash slumped because of that while Jake and Green sweat drop at this
"It's time I started taking care of my family. You go fulfil your dreams and mine" Flint told his son
"First, there are some things I have to tell you" said Brock
"After all these years, I understand how you must feel about me. So I want you to get everything off your chest" said Flint
Brock takes out a needle and thread from his vest
"Here"
Flint became shocked at this as Brock begins to give his father a lot of instructions
"Suzie always rips her dresses, so you better learn how to sew, and Timmy only eats cold spaghetti for breakfast. Tommy likes cornflakes for dinner..."
"Slow down! Slow down! I can't write that fast!" said Flint in frustration
"Cindy sleepwalks, so you have to tie a bell on her wrist. The twins never want to take a bath..."
Ash, Jake, Green, Bulbasaur, and Pikachu both look at each other as they watch this
That night, Ash, Jake, and Green along with Pikachu and Bulbasaur were leaving Pewter City. Brock had packed his things and begins to join them
"Hey Ash, Jake, Green. Are you okay with me joining you on your Pokémon journey?" he asked
"We don't mind, Brock" said Jake with a smile
"Yeah the more the merrier" added Green
"Besides it's always good to have another friend" said Ash
"Well, what about that girl that keeps following you guys?" asked Brock as they turned to see Misty following behind them
"Don't forget about my bike, Ash Ketchum! I'm gonna follow you, until you pay me back!" yelled Misty
"I know! I know! Pikachu, let's try to lose her!" said Ash as he and Pikachu begin to run ahead
"Not without us!" said Jake as he and Bulbasaur takes off after their best friend
"Wait for me!" said Green as she joins the chase
"Wait up, you guys!" said Brock as he runs too
"You won't get away!" yelled Misty as she runs after them
As they ran, Green asks Jake a question
"What is Misty talking about?" she asked
"It's a long story, Green" responded Jake
And so the group has got a new friend to join them on their journey. What will happen next as the journey continues?
