The School of Hard Knocks

We join our heroes as they continue down the path on their journey. But Ash and Misty starts to argue again

"I'm not letting you out of my sight Ash Ketchum until you pay for my broken bike!" Misty said

"My bike! My bike! That's all I ever hear from you!" Ash yelled

"RIGHT! And my name may be Misty, but I'm perfectly clear about what you owe me and you're not gonna get away without paying!" Misty countered

"Knock it off you two! You're giving me a headache" yelled Jake as he was rubbing his head

"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur

"Can't you just let it go, Misty?" Green asked

"Sorry, Green. But I won't let it go. Not until Ash pays me back!" Misty yelled

"Need I remind you again that Ash only did it to save Pikachu's life?!" reminded Jake with a glare

"Hmmph!" responded Misty

"Maybe if you two would spend less time arguing and paid more attention to where we're going, we'd already be in Vermillion City by now." Brock said

"Brock has a point. Come on, let's get going. We have to start the story" said Jake while breaking the fourth wall

"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur as it apologized to the readers

After Ash and Misty have stopped their argument, the group stopped for a break. Brock was taking a few things out of his bag

"I think we all need a little break. Why don't I throw a little something together" he said

What Brock took out was a table with a cloth, silverwares, plates, an alarm clock, vase, cups, and chairs.

"Ah, there's nothing as satisfying as a cup of 100% Cerulean coffee" Brock said as holds up a cup of coffee

"Don't you think we're too young for coffee, Brock" said Jake

"Saur" added his Bulbasaur

"Oh yeah. You kids are too young for that stuff, but it's really quite good" said Brock puts away the coffee and takes out another can. "How about some prune juice?"

Ash and Jake look at it

"Hard pass" said Jake

"What he said" added Ash

"How about some herbal tea?" Misty asked cheerfully

"You must be kidding" Ash said in disbelief

"Not so fast Ash" said Brock as he waves his finger. He then takes out a tea kettle and cup. "I brought my official Pokémon tea set!"

"Wow" Green said in surprise

"Now of course. The key to good tea and coffee is good water. And I just happen to have a generous supply of sparkling, delicious, Mt. Moon spring water!" said Brock as he took a bottle of water out from his backpack.

"How does he fit all that in his bag?" Jake asked

"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur with a question mark over it's head

"And for ze special snack, I have for you some French crepes" Brock said in a French accent

Ash, Green, and Jake look at Brock in disbelief while Misty was ecstatic about the crepes

"I love French things! They're so romantic, aren't they?" asked Misty as she imagines herself in Paris sitting at a table with some tea and food. But her thoughts get interrupted by Ash who is chewing on a snack and tea of his own.

Angered by her thoughts being interrupted, Misty begins to lunge at Ash. Luckily, Jake had Bulbasaur use it's vines to hold her back.

"All that crunching is ruining my romantic daydreams!" grumbled Misty

"Oh brother" said Green as she shook her head

"Uh, by the way" Brock said which get everyone's attention

"I can't cook crepes and I can't boil water if I don't have a fire!" he snapped which makes the boys and girls tense up. "Two or three of you will have to go into the forest and carry back some firewood"

"That's an excellent idea, Brock! And I'm willing to sacrifice the excitement of searching for firewood to stay here and keep you company!" Misty said

This caused everyone to sweat drop at Misty's decision

'Someone sure is lazy' thought Jake unamused

"Well, I guess that means..." Brock began

"Say no more, Brock. Me and the boys will go get some firewood" Green said

"What she said" Jake said

"Yeah, we're going" Ash said with a pout

Ash, Jake, and Green accompanied by Pikachu and Bulbasaur were walking through the forest to look for some firewood. It was foggy

"Here firewood! Here firewood!" Ash called out. Jake and Green sweat drop at this

"No firewood here, guys" he said

"Ash, you do know that firewood are inanimate objects. Calling out to them isn't going to work" said Jake

"Oh right" said Ash with a blush

Green giggles at this

"What's so funny, Green?" asked Jake

"Sorry, it's just that. I've never seen you two get along so well when were traveling" Green answered

"Heh. Well it's like I told you earlier, Ash and I have been the best of friends ever since we were young" Jake said

"Yeah. We have a lot of adventures back then and we were never apart. We even promised to travel together when we become trainers" Ash added

Green nods her head as she smiles. Bulbasaur and Pikachu both see something ahead and get their trainers' attention. The three trainers look at them as they pointed ahead. They see a light ahead

"Hey! Looks like a fire!" exclaimed Ash

They run up ahead to the light. They see a bunch of boys with another boy racing on a treadmill. They seem to be quizzing him.

"Alright, what's the name of this one?" the red haired boy asked as he showed the boy a picture of a Pidgey

"Is it a Zubat?" the boy guessed

"Listen. Just because it's foggy out here, doesn't mean your brain has to be in a fog" the green haired boy said

"It's a Pidgey" the boy running on the treadmill said as he was panting.

"Nice guess. You just got lucky" scoffed the read haired boy

"Okay, now tell us what it's special attackis" the green haired boy said as the boy continued running

"Pidgey's attack is Gust at level 5. Sand Attack at Level 12." answered the boy

"Everybody knows that. Now can you tell me at which level Pidgey evolves? And what's the name of Pidgey's advanced stage?" the red haired kid asked

The boy on the treadmill tries to think as he was running

"You better come up with answers quick, or you'll have to run faster" taunted the green haired kid

Jake and Green both watched this in worry and disgust. Even Bulbasaur glared at this

"What are they doing to that poor boy?" Green asked in worry

"It looks to me like those boys are trying to get him to answer some questions about Pidgey. While bullying him at the same time" Jake said with a glare

"Bulba!" Bulbasaur said in disgust

Just then, the boy lost his balance and fell off the treadmill

"I'm sorry. I forgot" he apologized much to the kid's disappointment

"You forgot. Huh? And you call yourself a Pokémon Tech Student? We don't want to study with the likes of you!" said the red haired kid angrily

"I'm sorry" the kid said

Seeing enough, Green rushed in.

"Stop it! All of you!" she shouted

"Yeah, leave that kid alone!" said Ash as he and Jake join her

"What the heck is going on here?!" Jake demanded

"There's nothing going on here. Mind your own business. This is a private training session" said the red haired kid

"There's no room in our Pokémon school for losers who don't even know Pidgey's evolve stage. We have to maintain standards" added the green haired

"I don't know about this Pokémon school of yours. But I do know that your so called training session is all wrong. You can't just expect a right answer if you force someone to run on this treadmill!" Jake yelled as Ash helped the kid up

"That's right Jake. You tell em!"

Everyone turns around to see Misty. She had somehow overheard everything

"Misty?" asked Green

"You better stop bullying that kid, or you have to answer to us. Right you three?" asked Misty

"Misty, you stay out of this! Leave everything to us" Ash said

"You're right, Ash. There's no reason for both of us to get into a fight. It's very brave for all three of you to take on all five by yourselves" Misty said

"Aren't you going to help us?" asked Green

"I would, but Ash told me to stay out of it. I'll be here on the sidelines cheering you three on. Waiting to drag your carcass in the end. Show them guys!" encouraged Misty

"Very well" said Jake as he, Ash and Green got into a battle stance. But the students just stood there.

"We don't fight" said the red haired kid

"Fighting is for cave men. This isn't the Stone Age, you know" added the green haired kid

"And if we wasted our time having a fight with insects like you three, it would make Pokémon Tech look really bad" added a black haired student

"Pokémon Tech?" asked Green

"We'll see you back at the Tech, Joe" the green haired kid said to the boy now known as Joe.

The students then begin to walk away

"Okay" Joe simply said

"Hey! Maybe you cowards are just afraid to fight someone like me!" yelled Ash

"The only thing we're afraid of is how badly we'd beat a little punk like you" said the red haired kid as he walks away with a laugh

"Who do those guys think they are?!" growled Ash

"Easy buddy. Don't let them get to you" Jake said as he calmed his friend down

Brock was watching the whole thing not too far from where they are. He was stirring something in a bowl with a clodder

"So those are the infamous Tech students" Brock said

"Tech students?" asked Green

"Pokémon Tech. I think it's short for Pokémon Technical. A school for Pokémon trainers. I know I had a flyer here somewhere" explained Misty as she searches for something in the pockets of her jean shorts. She then takes a piece of paper out. "Here it is"

"A Pokémon School in the middle of Nowhere?" Ash asked

"Hmm. Let's see what it says here about this place" Brock said as he takes the flyer and reads it. As he was doing that, Pikachu was curious as he got on the treadmill while Bulbasaur watches. Pikachu pushes one of the buttons which turns it on. The machine shakes and cause Pikachu to fall and run on it. Bulbasaur gasped at this

"Pokémon Technical Institue. A Boarding School for serious Pokémon trainer preparation. All students guaranteed to enter Pokémon League upon graduation. Pokémon Technical is the educational facility for exceptional students in a very short time." read Brock

As he was reading the flyer, Brock unwittingly hit the a button on the treadmill which caused the machine to go even faster. Pikachu struggles to keep up the pace, but falls. Luckily, Bulbasaur uses it's vines to get Pikachu off. Pikachu thanks him for it

"Oh. So that's the story" Brock replied

"So what you're saying is that this Pokémon Tech is a school where Pokémon trainers go to get in the Pokémon League easily. I suppose from what we witnessed, the students there must learn about the different types of Pokémon and their moves" Jake said.

"I've never heard of a school like that to be honest" added Green

"But still, Jake has a point. Getting into the Pokémon League without badges is too easy" Ash said

"Wait, there's more. Student entrance fees and tuition are in keeping with the high standards set by Pokémon Technical" Brock finished reading

"You know what that means, don't you? It's one of those snobby private schools where only millionaire kids can go to" explained Misty

"Oh! That really makes me mad! Where is this place anyway?!" Ash snapped

"It's right over there" Joe said as he pointed forward

"Today's special class: Fog battle techniques has now ended. Tomorrow's lesson will be snow competition secret" said an announcer as the fog disappears to reveal a building.

"What do you know? It was right in front of us the whole time" said Jake

"Saur" said Bulbasaur in surprise

"Oh well, I guess tomorrow they'll make me into a snowman again" Joe said with a sigh

"Doesn't it bother you that those guys pick on you like that?" asked Green with a worried look on her face

"My friends we're only trying to help" replied Joe

"You call being forced to run on that treadmill, helping? It looks to me like they're just bullying you" Jake said with a glare

"With friends like that, who needs enemies" Brock added

"But they helped me learned that Pidgey evolves into Pidgeotto at level 18. And it learns Whirlwind at level 21, Wing Attack at level 30, and as it level rises, it learns various tricks after evolving to Pidgeot. It can fly at 1200 meters and speeds up to Mach 2" explained Joe

"Wow. Impressive" said Jake as he was amazed by Joe's knowledge

"But I don't get it. If you know everything about Pidgey, why didn't you just answer them before?" Ash asked confused

"Sometimes I make believe that I don't know all the answers. Because if I do, they'd make the questions that much harder. But I have to stay here at Pokémon Tech. My mother and father worked hard and saved money so they can pay and send me to school here" Joe explained. He then turned his head to an older student with glasses sitting under a tree.

"You see that guy over there? He's an upperclassman. The classes are so hard here, some students are held back for many years. Everybody's too ashamed to go home without getting a diploma. That guy, he's in the beginner's class with me" Joe explained further

"You're a beginner?" asked Ash

"Beginner's have the same qualifications as someone with two badges. The Intermediate class has the qualifications of four. And advanced students has the qualifications of six. If you graduate, you can enter the Pokémon League without traveling around to collect the badges" Joe continues to explain

"But what good is studying about Pokémon in school, when you can actually experience them in real life? Isn't it more fun that way?" Jake asked him

"Gee. I never thought about it like that. Anyway, that guy is a beginner. But he's so much older than everybody in the class. The kids don't bother to help him like they helped me" Joe finished explaining

"Did you tell the teachers about this?" asked Green

"They don't even know about it. Or if they do, they pretend not to" Joe answered

"That's just great. Not even the instructors in this school are of much help here" grumbled Jake as he couldn't believe what he had heard

"Well I for one think this is a violation of student's rights that must stop immediately! If not sooner! I wanna meet the student in charge of this system and I'll see that it stops!" Ash proclaimed angrily

"Here's a picture" Joe said as he takes a picture out.

The group looked to see that on the picture is...

"It's a girl?" Misty asked in surprise

"That's surprising" Jake said

"Yeah" Green said

But Ash and Brock were lovestruck at how pretty the girl in the photo is

"Oh yeah. You're right about that" Ash said with a blush

"She can violate my rights anytime" Brock added with a blush as well

"Hmmph. She doesn't look that pretty." Jake said as he was unfazed by the girl's look

What he said made Green smile at him with a blush on her face

"Hey! If she's making your life miserable, how come you're carrying her picture around?!" Misty asked angrily

"I hate the way she treats us, but I like the way she looks" Joe replied

"You like how she looks?" asked Green

"Oh yeah, not like some other girls who treat you bad and look even worse" Ash said in his lovestruck state.

What he said made Misty very angry while making Green's eyes twitch

"WHILE YOU TWO ARE SLOBBERING OVER THAT DOPEY PICTURE, I'M GOING TO FIND THIS LITTLE WITCH AND STRAIGHTEN HER OUT!" bellowed Misty which snapped Ash and Brock out their love struck state.

"This top student! What's so great about her?!" she muttered angrily as she begins to stomp over to the Pokémon Tech building

"Hey Misty! Wait!" Ash called to her

Green then smacks Ash in the back of the head and follows after Misty with a huff

"Hey, what was that for?!" he called as Brock and Joe follow after the girls

"You really need to learn to watch what you say about girls, Ash" Jake said

"I get it" said Ash as they along with their Pokémon follow after their friends.

Having made their way inside the school, Joe took the group to a room from an elevator. The room looked almost like an arcade game. Joe was currently explaining to the group who Giselle is.

"Giselle always practices here by herself. Even if you beat her in a fight, it won't matter to her. At the Tech, it's your skill as a Pokémon trainer that counts more than winning any one battle" explained Joe

"That's what I'm hoping! Because I've got two badges!" said Ash as he showed his Gym badges

"Me too" said Jake as he also showed his Gym badges

"But Giselle is the top beginner here at the Tech. That's even better than having three badges. Even though I'm at the bottom of my class, I'm still powerful than someone with two badges" Joe said

Offended by what Joe said, Misty pushes Ash aside and confronts him

"Hold on a second here! I learned how to become a Pokémon trainer at the Cerulean City Gym! Are you saying you can beat me!?" she asked angrily

"Oh Cerulean City. Water Pokémon" Joe said as he turned on one of the machines

"How'd you know?" Misty asked

"I always beat 'em on the simulator. See?" Joe stated as he controls a Weepinbell and defeat an opponent's Starmie.

"What is this?" Misty asked in disgust.

"A simulation's one thing, but this is real life! Let's battle!" Misty yelled as she challenges Joe to a battle

"You'll be sorry" Joe said

Joe and Misty were then on a battlefield as the friends watched from the sidelines

"What do you two have to battle for?" asked Ash

"Butt out, Ash! I have the Cerulean City Gym's reputation to defend! And I'm gonna defend it! Misty calls Starmie!" Misty yelled as she lets out her Starmie.

Joe smirked as he remembered the simulator

"Too bad you're Water Pokémon won't be able to beat my plant. Alright Weepinbell, let's go!" he yelled as he throws a Poké Ball. It opens to reveal a Weepinbell

"Hey, this is just like in the simulator that he showed us" Green said in surprise

"Yeah" said Jake as he takes out his Pokédex and scans Weepinbell

Jake's Pokédex: Weepinbell the Flycatcher Pokémon. It spits out PoisonPowder to immobilize the enemy and then finishes it with a spray of Acid.

"I'll teach him about Pokémon! Starmie go!" Misty yelled

Starmie jumps in and shoots Water Gun at Weepinbell which easily defeats it and sending it flying. Joe was surprised at what just happened

"Huh!? But Weepinbell is strong against Water Pokémon" he said in shock

"That was quick" Green said

"I guess Misty was right. A real life Pokémon battle is different compared to doing it in a simulation" Jake said

"Saur saur saur" said Bulbasaur as it shook it's head at the battle

Just then a girl comes in

"True. But there's one thing you didn't know" the girl called out. Everyone turned to see the girl. The same one from the picture that Joe had: Giselle. Even the students came with her

"You're opponent's from the Cerulean City gym. Her Pokémon have much experience battling. You should've known that. You're an embarrassment to this whole school." Giselle said bluntly to Joe

"But Giselle..." Joe spoked

"So that's Giselle" Green said with a frown

"She's really pretty isn't she?" Ash asked as he becomes lovestruck again

"Yeah, she looks just like a movie star" Brock said with a blush

This caused Jake to face palm at them, while Misty gave them an annoyed look

'They like stars, do they? I'll be glad to show them some stars!' she thought angrily

"I'm the top student in the beginning class of the most exclusive prep school in the world: Pokémon Tech. It's sad that others aren't blessed with my beauty, my talents, my humble attitude. People call me a star, but I'm just Giselle" she bragged as she made a pose

'Man, she is such a narcissist. Giselle may be pretty, but her attitude sure is rotten ' Jake thought as he frowned at Giselle's bragging. He then heard someone screaming. Jake looked around

"What's wrong, Jake?" Green asked

"Sorry, Green. I thought I heard someone screaming" Jake answered

"You must've imagined it" Green giggled

"I guess you're right" Jake said with a smile

Giselle then walks up to Joe

"I want to continue to help my students be the very best they can be. To teach each other, respect each other, and ensure the Pokémon of tomorrow. But you're a weakling!" she said to him

"Uh" Joe can only say

"You better get stronger fast! Before you know it, your fellow students will turn their backs on you for good." Giselle said as she turns to walk away much to Joe's shock

Seeing this made Green's blood boil. She then steps up to confront the top student.

"Hold on a minute!"

Giselle stops in her tracks and turns her head to her

"What kind of friend would turn their back on someone who is in need of help!? And just because Joe lost to Misty in battle that you have the right to call him a weakling!? You may be the top student in this school Giselle, but you are nothing more than a bully! Just like the other students here!" Green yelled at her

Giselle and all the other students gasped at what Green said. Now it was Misty's turn to confront Giselle

"Green has a point there. You may look beautiful, but you remind me of a saying that 'Beauty is only Skin deep'!" Misty yelled

"Jealousy's not pretty either, is it?" Giselle giggled

"I better do something" Ash said

"Wise Pokémon trainers never get involve in a catfight" Brock whispered to him

"Huh?" Ash asked

"I think what Brock is saying is that we should let the girls settle this between them. I think" Jake said

Giselle then picks up a Poké Ball from a rack.

"For your Water Pokémon, I choose... Graveler. Go!" she said as she throws the Poké Ball. Out comes an evolved form of Geodude

Green gasped as she took out her Pokédex from her bag and scans it

Green's Pokédex: Graveler, the Rock Pokémon and the evolved form of Geodude. Often seen rolling down mountain trails. Obstacles are just things to roll straight over, not avoid.

Green then steps back to the group. Brock was surprised at Giselle's choice

"Graveler!? But Rock Pokémon are weak against Water Pokémon!" he exclaimed

"But my Pokémon are at such an advanced level, they can beat Water Pokémon" Giselle boasted

Graveler leaps up in the air and dives feet first at Starmie. But Starmie jumps out of the way. It then attempts to shoot Water Gun at Graveler, but if was unafftected by it. Graveler then uses Rollout and jumps at Starmie. The attack hits and Starmie is sent smashing through a window and down into a swimming pool.

"Oh my goodness!" Green said in surprise

"Yeah, and with just one hit!" added Jake

Misty, on the other hand was stunned by this

"I... can't believe it" she muttered

Everybody then went outside to the pool. Misty was hugging her Starmie.

"Now we're by the pool. You're Pokémon's specialty. You can use a different Water Pokémon if you want" Giselle said to her

"Oh and I'm sure you'll choose a another Pokémon that's weak against water!" yelled Misty sarcastically

"Pokémon are only as strong as the trainer who raises them. A Pokémon that's weaker but better trained can still win. It depends on the trainer. I hope you're learning something from this Joe." Giselle lectured

"Uh" Joe only said

"A Pokémon's level of training is just as important a factor as a Pokémon's type and deciding a match. A first class Pokémon trainer can calculate that" Giselle explained confidently.

Ash has had enough of what Giselle and steps up to confront her

"Wait a minute! There's more to Pokémon training than calculating levels!" Ash said

"Who are you?" Giselle asked him

"I'm Ash Ketchum from Pallet and I already got two badges!" Ash answered much to the top student's amusement

"In other words, you're a beginner. And how long have you've been trying to become a Pokémon trainer?" Giselle asked

As Ash thought about it, Jake stepped up to answer for him

"I would say two months" Jake said which makes Giselle look at him

"And who are you?" she asked

"I am Jake Serling and like my friend, I'm also from Pallet Town. I even have two badges as well!" Jake said. Giselle mockingly gasps

"Two whole months and you let your Pikachu and Bulbasaur walk free. You haven't been able to tame it yet? Maybe your Pokémon are training you two" she mocked

"Hey, we don't need to tame them. Pokémon are not battling tools, they're our friends. I'm surprise that your school never learned that. Cause if that's the case, then the standards there must be low" Jake said

This caused Giselle to twitch at what he had said

"Yeah, what he said! I don't want to train Pikachu! Pikachu is my friend. And so are Butterfree and Pidgeotto!" shouted Ash

"Is that all you have? And what about your friend" Giselle asked, causing Ash to blink

"I have Vaporeon, Pikachu, Spearow, and Beedrill. Why do you ask?" Jake asked

"That's funny because even new Pokémon trainers usually have at least six Pokémon. And you two have two badges with only three or five Pokémon on you. You boys are lucky, are ya?" teased Giselle

"Every one of our Pokémon has the power of two!" yelled Ash

"I wonder. With two months of experience, both your Pikachu and your Bulbasaur should be at least level 25, but they're probably not there yet. Are they?" Giselle asked

This caused Pikachu and Bulbasaur to frown at her. Even their trainers were glaring at her as Giselle continues to insult them

"I suppose you boys don't know very much about Pokémon if you picked a Pikachu and Bulbasaur as your first ones. These Pokémon can be hard to handle. It says so in any beginning Pokémon manual" said Giselle

Green starts to grit her teeth as she watches Giselle continue making fun of her two friends

"Huh? You two really didn't know. And you still got two badges!? How funny! A Pikachu evolves into an electric Pokémon called a Raichu. It gets to be about 2 feet 7 inches tall. Pikachu can shock you, but otherwise it's pretty cute. Don't you think? And as for Bulbasaur, it evolves into it's second stage called an Ivysaur. It gets to be about 3 feet and 3 inches tall. And then it evolves into it's final stage which is a Venusaur and it gets to be about 6 feet and 7 inches tall. If you two don't let your Pokémon evolve, they make great pets. Especially for little girls. But I'm sure you two knew that. Didn't you? Really you didn't and you have two badges?!" Giselle boasted as she begins to laugh

"Knock it off!" Ash yelled angrily

Before Pikachu can jump in, Jake and Bulbasaur steps up

"That tears it! You can make fun of us, Giselle. But when you make fun of our Pokémon, that's where we draw the line! I challenge you!" yelled Jake

"Bulbasaur!" yelled Bulbasaur as it got ready to battle

"Jake?!" gasped Ash in surprise

"Pika?" Pikachu gasped as well

"Are you sure you wanna battle her, Jake? Giselle is the top student here. She was able to easily beat Misty's Starmie with a Graveler despite being at a disadvantage" Green said in worry

"I know that. But it's time this top student learn what it means to be in a real Pokémon battle." Jake said

"Well then, take her down buddy" said Ash as he and Pikachu walked to the side

"You ready, Giselle?" asked Jake

"For your Bulbasaur, this should be more than a match. Cubone, go!" Giselle yelled as she threw a Poké Ball. Out came a Pokémon with a bone helmet on it's head and holding a bone

"Cubone bone bone"

"Cubone" Jake said as he took out his Pokédex and scans it

Jake's Pokédex: Cubone, the Lonely Pokémon. It wears the skull of its deceased mother. Its cries echo inside the skull and come out as a sad melody.

'I feel sorry for it already' thought Jake as he puts his Pokédex away.

They then began the match

"Just so you know, Giselle. Bulbasaur isn't just any other Pokémon, but a good friend that will never be replaced. Tackle attack!" Jake yelled

Bulbasaur charges in and tackles Cubone. Cubone skids back

"Cheap trick. Cubone, Leer attack!" Giselle ordered

Cubone used Leer on Bulbasaur, which scares it

"Now Bone Club!" Giselle ordered

Cubone hits Bulbasaur really hard on it's head with it's bone

"Bulbasaur!" yelled Jake

"Ooh, that's gonna leave a mark" Green said with a wince

"Bulbasaur, shake it off. Then use Vine Whip!" Jake said

Bulbasaur shook it's head and uses Vine Whip on Cubone. It seems to do major damage to it.

"Cubone, shake it off and use another Bone Club!" Giselle ordered

Cubone complied and rushes in. It then his Bulbasaur in the head again and then bats it away. Bulbasaur skids on the ground

"Hey! That's not fair!" complained Ash

"I'm not playing around! This is a contest of power and skill between two Pokémon! Cubone, time for the Bonemerang!" Giselle said to Cubone

Cubone threw his bone like it was a boomerang. Just as Bulbasaur was recovering, the bone hits him and knocks him back down again

"Bulbasaur!" Jake shouted

"Throwing that bone is a cheep way to win!" protested Ash

"Well, that's Cubone's special attack. It's authorized by the Pokémon League and it's perfectly legal" explained Giselle

"It's still a cheap trick" Ash retorted

"Come on, Bulbasaur. Stay strong" Jake said as Bulbasaur was getting up

"Calling it a cheap trick simply proves your own ignorance. And your friend is gonna pay the price for it" Giselle said

'I gotta end this' thought Jake. He then came up with an idea

"Bulbasaur, charge in!" Jake said

Bulbasaur did what his trainer said and runs up

"Are you in such a hurry to lose? Cubone, another Bonemerang!" Giselle ordered

Cubone hurled his bone at Bulbasaur

'Wait for it' thought Jake

As the bone got closer,

"Now Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip to grab the bone!" Jake ordered

"What!?" Giselle yelled

"Bone?!" Cubone yelled

Bulbasaur shot out it's vines and grabs the bone to stop the attack. Everyone gasped at what they had seen

"Now Bulbasaur. Throw it back!" commanded Jake

Bulbasaur used it's vines to toss the bone back. It spins back and hits Cubone. Cubone was sent flying in the air and lands on the ground really hard.

"Cubone!" shouted Giselle as she runs up to it

"He did it. Jake won!" Ash shouted

"Way to go, Jake!" Green yelled as she was the most happy for Jake

"Pika!" Pikachu said

Giselle sank down to her knees as Cubone cried for it's loss.

"I lost. Cubone, good try. Come on back. Don't cry" Giselle said as she recalled Cubone

"I don't understand. The textbooks didn't say anything about using tricks like that in battle" Giselle said

"Well, that's what really happens in a real life battle. It's true that it's about power and skill like you said, but sometimes you gotta use tricks as well. That's obviously something that you don't learn in a textbook" Jake explained

"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur

"That was a once in a lifetime battle" Joe said

"You can learn something from that battle, Joe. In a Pokémon battle, you just have to use your wits and skills while also making your Pokémon strong at the same time" Green told him

"Yeah, I guess you're right. But it was still cool" Joe said

"I still can't believe I lost the match" Giselle sulked until smoke begins to pour in

"Oh no. It's not..!" Ash yelled

"Allow us to re-introduce ourselves!"

'Here we go again' thought Jake with a sigh

"To protect the world from devastation!"

"To unite all the people within our nation!"

"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"

"To extend our reach to the stars above!"

"Jessie!"

"James!"

"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"

"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"

"Meowth!"

Meowth falls into the pool but jumps out and lands between his comrades

"I love a splashy entrance!"

After the trio finished their motto. Giselle smirked as she saw them

"I've heard of Team Rocket. You're the ones who got the worst grades ever on the entrance exam. How about your team versus our team?" Giselle asked as she, Joe and the other students took out their Poké Balls, startling Jessie and James

"The two of us against all of them!?" Jessie gasped

"But the rules say one on one!" James reminded desperately

"Bad guys don't play the rules! Get 'em!" Giselle yelled as she and all the students of Pokémon Tech begin to throw their Poké Balls

The Team Rocket were pelted by several Poké Balls

"Too many Poké Balls!" yelled Jessie

"From now on, we play by the rules!" James shouted

"At least for a little while!" added Meowth

"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" The trio shouted as they ran out of the school

"And there they go" Green said in relief

"But still, can you believe that Team Rocket once attended Pokémon Tech?" asked Jake

"I don't" answered Ash

"Me neither" added Brock

"I did not know that" added Misty

It was now the afternoon and Giselle seems to learn a valuable lesson following her battle with Jake

"There are some things you just can't learn in school. And that's a good lesson" Giselle said to herself

Joe then walks up to her

"I'm going back home to start from scratch with my first Pokémon just like Ash and Jake did. And Jake was right, it is more fun to travel the world and learn about Pokémon up close rather than in a classroom." he said

Joe then looks at Giselle

"Hey Giselle. Maybe we'll meet someday in the Pokémon League."

"I hope so. I'll try my hardest to be a worthy opponent if we do" Giselle said as they looked at the sky

"Alright, if I keep your picture with me?" Joe asked

"Sure, I have pictures of my friend too" Giselle replied which surprises Joe

"Huh? You have mine?" he asked

"We're friends now aren't we? Good luck, Joe" said Giselle as she stood up and holds out her hand

"You too, Giselle" Joe said as they shook hands

The group was watching them from a distance. Both Jake and Green smiled at Joe and Giselle's newly formed friendship

"See, why can't you and I be like that, Misty?" Ash asked

"Huh? I'll tell you exactly why. Because he doesn't owe her a bike!" Misty told him

Ash laughs nervously

"She's never gonna let this go. Is she?" Green asked with a sweat drop

"Nope" Jake answered

"Saur" Bulbasaur responded

Joe and Giselle then walk up to the group.

"So, maybe we'll battle each other again someday" Giselle said

"I sure hope so" Misty said

"Me too!" Ash added

"Me three!" Jake said

Both Joe and Giselle nod back

The group then parted ways with them and are on the road again. They took one last look at the Pokémon Tech School and begin to set off to Vermillion City. As they were travelling, Green couldn't help but blush at Jake from behind. Misty notices, and smiles knowing that Green has a crush on Jake
