Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village
We join our two heroes Ash and Jake as they lead their friends through a forest. Since neither of them have a compass, Ash is trying to rely on his instinct.
"Are you sure you know where we're going, Ash?" Green asked
"Don't worry. I'm positive this way will take us back to the path" Ash assured
"Positive, huh?" Brock said with uncertainty
"That's what you said an hour ago. I'm tired" Misty said
The group stopped for a bit
"Phew. I told you to stick to the main road, but you had to take a short cut!" Misty snapped
"I took a shortcut!? It was you who said to go this way!" Ash argued back
Everyone sweat dropped as Ash and Misty started to argue again
"Ha! If I was leading, we would've gotten lost like this!" replied Misty in a cocky tone
Green face palms at what Misty said
"Who says we're lost!?" Ash snapped
"Listen genius! If you don't know where you are or where we're going, that means you're lost!" yelled Misty
"That's enough, you two! We're not gonna get anywhere if you guys keep arguing like this" Jake scolded
This caused their argument to stop
"Alright, but remind me to yell at you some more if we ever get to Vermillion City" Misty said as she crossed her arms
'First they argue about the bike and then they argue about directions. What's next?' Green thought with a frown
After walking through the forest, the group decide to rest on some rocks.
"Time for a break" Ash said
"Good call, Ash" Jake said
"Saur" said his Bulbasaur
"Yeah, I feel like my legs are gonna fall off" Green said as she rubbed her right thigh
As they sat, Ash notices something near him. It was a Pokémon with some grass on it's head
"Hey, Jake. Look at that" Ash said
Jake turn to look at the Pokémon
"It's an Oddish" he said
Ash took out his Pokédex and scans it
Ash's Pokédex: Oddish. This Pokémon is typically found roaming the forest, scattering pollen as it walks around.
"I'll catch it!" Ash said as he takes out a Poké Ball. But before he can do so, Misty got in front of him
"Hold it" she said
"What for?" Ash asked
"Because I'm gonna catch that Pokémon" Misty answered
"Ah, no way, Misty. I saw it first" protested Ash
"But we found it around the water. And water is my specialty" Misty replied
"Are you sure? Oddish is a Grass and Poison type and you only specialize in Water Pokémon" Jake said
"Well if Brock can catch a Zubat even though he is a Rock Type expert, then I'm sure there's no harm in me catching a Pokémon of a different type" Misty said with a wink
They turn to see Oddish getting away.
"Go, Starmie!" Misty yelled as she lets Starmie out of it's Poké Ball.
Starmie then got in Oddish's way. Oddish attempts to get away, but Misty calls out an attack
"Starmie, Water Gun now!"
Starmie shoots Water Gun at Oddish which sends it up in the air.
"Now that's the way to spray. Tackle it Starmie!" Misty ordered
Starmie charges in while spinning at hits Oddish very hard, resulting in Oddish being knocked to the ground. Misty then takes out an empty Poké Ball
"That weakened it! Gotta catch it now! Poké Ball go!" Misty yelled as she threw the Poké Ball
But before the Poké Ball can make contact with Oddish, something hit it, sending the Poké Ball away.
"Uh oh" Misty replied as the Poké Ball hit the ground
The group turn to see a familiar Grass type Pokémon in front of Oddish
"Whoa! What's that?!" asked Ash
"It's a Bulbasaur. A wild one at that" Jake responded
"Saur!?" said his Bulbasaur in shock. It was very surprised to see a member of it's own kind out here
Ash was very excited to see a Bulbasaur
"Wow! I can't believe it!" he yelled as he takes out his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: Bulbasaur. It bears the seed of a plant on its back from birth. The seed slowly develops. Researchers are unsure whether to classify Bulbasaur as a plant or animal. Bulbasaur are extremely tough and very difficult to capture in the wild.
Green then walks up to see the wild Bulbasaur. It jumps in and tackled Starmie very hard knocking it back. Misty runs over to it.
"Ah! Starmie, are you okay!?" she asked in worry
"Now it's my turn to try! Bulbasaur is mine! Butterfree, I choose you!" Ash yelled as he lets out his Butterfree. "Butterfree, Sleep Powder!"
Butterfree did what Ash commanded and begins to sprinkle Sleep Powder at Bulbasaur. Before it can affect it, Bulbasaur blew it back which hits Butterfree, making him drowsy and dropped to the ground. The group was surprised by this.
"I didn't know Bulbasaur can do that" Green said in surprised
"That's because they can't." Jake replied in shock
Jake's Bulbasaur was amazed at the wild Bulbasaur's improvised move
"Come on! Hang in there, Butterfree!" Ash said
Still feeling drowsy, Butterfree struggled to get up. But the wild Bulbasaur tackles it sending him flying.
"Oh no!" Ash said in surprised
Oddish and Bulbasaur then escaped into the bushes together
"Oh. But Bulbasaur. It's not fair! I want it!" whined Ash
"Better luck next time, Ash" Green said with a sigh
"But still. That Bulbasaur is very strong. It is definitely not like mine" Jake commented
His Bulbasaur was looking at the direction that the Oddish and Bulbasaur went. It seems to be impressed by how strong the Bulbasaur is.
The group then continues on their way. They were walking on the bridge
"Ha ha ha! I bet there are Bulbasaur all over this place!" Ash said with a laugh
"But the Pokédex said that Bulbasaur are hard to capture in the wild" reminded Jake
"I know that, Jake. But there is a possibility that there can be another wild one here" Ash responded
"What is this place?" Misty asked
"I can't find this bridge on my map" said Brock as he was looking at a map
The group stopped when they heard this and turned to their friend. Brock sweat dropped
"Wait! You have a map this whole time and you didn't even tell us?" Jake asked with a frown
"Saur" Bulbasaur said with a frown
"Well, you see..." Brock began
Before he can explain, a harsh wind begins to blow which shakes the bridge. Everyone yells in surprised as this happened. Just then, one of the ropes break, which turns the bridge sideways. This forces everyone to hold on. Ash was holding on while Misty was holding onto his legs. Bulbasaur used it's vines to grab onto Jake's leg while he's holding on. Green held on too, but her grip begins to slip. Before she could fall, Jake grabbed her arm with one hand.
"I gotcha!" yelled Jake. This caused Green to blush
Brock on the other hand was struggling to hold on. He then couldn't hold on any longer, and fell down
"Brock's falling!" Ash yelled
They watched to see Brock fall into the river and was out of sight
"No!" Jake yelled
"Ash! Jake! You need to pull us back up! It's our only chance!" Misty said
"I ... can't!" Ash grunted
"Yes you will! Just pull as hard as you can!" Misty yelled back
"You heard her! Before we all fall into the water!" Green added
"Saur" Bulbasaur said in fright as it looked down
"Okay!" Jake said as he and his friend pulled themselves up
It took some time, but Ash and Jake were able to get themselves, the girls, and their Pokémon to the other side of the bridge. They were panting in exhaustion after that.
"Phew. I'm totally wiped out" Ash said
"Me too" Green said
"Me three" Jake said
"We can't rest now. We gotta find Brock" Misty said
"Right" Jake said
The group then ran on the trail that was under the bridge.
"Hurry up!" Ash yelled as he took the lead
Just as they were running, they heard a yelp. They turned around to see that Misty had fallen into a hole.
"How did you get down there?" asked Ash
"I fell in! How else? What's a trap doing here!?" Misty asked
"It seems Pretty strange" Ash said
"Yeah. But who set it up?" Jake wondered
"Never mind who set it up! Just help me out, quick!" Misty yelled as she reached out her hands
"Okay" Green said
"This is just not our day" Ash said as they got Misty out of the hole
The group then continued on the trail. Ash and Jake were calling out for Brock
"Brock!"
"Where are ya Brock?!"
"You think he washed this far down stream?" Misty asked
"I hope not" Green replied in worry
Misty's foot then caught on something, causing the group to be caught in a big net which goes right up into a tree.
"Hey! How'd we get up in that tree?" Ash asked
"It was another trap and Misty triggered it!" Jake said as he glared at Misty
"I didn't know it was there!" Misty yelled
"Can we not argue right now? We got to get out of here!" Green yelled
"Try wiggling. See if the net would open" Misty suggested
"Worth a shot" Jake said
Ash and Jake begins to wiggle the net, but to no avail
"Oh this is dumb!" complained Ash
"You got any better ideas?! Let's hear 'em!" Misty yelled
"Pika!"
"Bulbasaur!" Pikachu and Bulbasaur both said as they are struggling with the tight fit in the net
"Bulbasaur!"
The friends look down to see the wild Bulbasaur they had encountered
"It's that Bulbasaur again" Jake said
"Bulba Bulbasaur Bulba bulba!" yelled Jake's Bulbasaur as it was begging it's wild brethren to let them out
But the wild Bulbasaur just gave them a smug look and walks off
"Hey! Where are you going!? You can't just leave us here!" yelled Green
"Hold it there, Bulbasaur! I want a match!" Ash yelled as he begins to shake the net
"Now you're wiggling too much! Ow! You kicked me!" Misty yelled
"Jake, are you touching my leg?" Green asked
"Oh sorry" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Ash called out
After a few minutes, the friends stopped wiggling
"I can't believe that wild Bulbasaur left us here" Jake said
"Saur" his Bulbasaur said sadly
"Yeah" Green said
"I know. But I wonder what happened to Brock" Ash said
"I wonder too" Misty said
"Maybe the river carried him far away. All the way to the ocean. Then some pirates spotted him and brought him aboard their ship. And one of the pirates have a wooden leg" Ash said
Jake and Green sweat dropped at Ash's story
"You have a crazy imagination!" Misty said
"Kachu" Pikachu said
"Then came the storm" Ash finished
"Ahoy!"
The friends look down to see Brock who is okay
"Brock! Thank goodness you're okay" said Green in relief
"Why are you guys hanging around up in that tree?" Brock asked
"Never mind that. Can you please get us down?" Jake asked
"Sure" Brock said
He takes out a knife and cuts the rope that holding the net. The net falls to the ground very hard. Everyone then gets the net off of them
"Thanks, Brock" Jake said
"Saur" said his Bulbasaur
"But maybe next time, you can let us down a little more gently" Misty added
"Yeah sure. Uh, sorry" Brock replied
"We've been looking all over for you!" Misty said
"We saw you fall into the river" added Ash
"What happened to you after that?" Green asked
"Well I was being washed away in the rapids" Brock begins
A flashback begins where we see Brock being pulled by the current in the river. Just then, a young woman grabbed his hand.
"I got you. Just hold on" the woman said as she pulled Brock up to the surface
Brock was panting and then gets a good look at his savior.
"The girl who saved my life was incredibly beautiful" Brock finished
"Beautiful girl, huh? That's even better than pirates. Unless of course she was a pirate in disguise" Ash said
"You do know that's absurd right?" Jake asked with a sweat drop
Ash can only chuckle nervously.
Brock then led his friends to a small cabin where the same woman that saved him was caring for some wild Pokémon. The girl then notices them coming
"Melanie, this is Ash, Misty, Jake, and Green." explained Brock as he introduced his friends to her
"Hello" Ash greeted
"What's up?" Jake greeted as well
"So you're Brock's friends. He told me all about you" said the woman known as Melanie.
"Great" said Misty
Green then notices all the Pokémon here. There was a Bellsprout, Weepinbell, a Caterpie, two Rattatas, an Oddish, and a Paras. They were all eating Pokémon food.
"Wow. That's a lot of Pokémon. Are they all yours" she asked
"Oh no" responded Melanie
"This is a place where Pokémon are able to rest and relax" explained Brock
"Like summer camp?" asked Ash
"Well sort of. But all year long! You see, when Pokémon get abandoned or injured, they can come here. Melanie takes care of them until they feel better. Then they leave" explained Brock
"Wow. It's just like the Pokémon Center" Jake said
"Saur" said his Bulbasaur in amazement
"Does that make Melanie a Pokémon Doctor?" Green asked
"Oh no. I'm unqualified to be a Pokémon Doctor" replied Melanie
"This is more like a Pokémon Health Spa" Brock explained
The group was surprised by this. They then watched the other Pokémon getting along with each other
"Here, the Pokémon don't battle with one another. They relax and try to enjoy themselves until they recover" explained Melanie
"Cool" Misty said
"That's nice" Green added
"Melanie collects plants to use for medicine. She knows all about which plants can help a Pokémon feel better or grow stronger when it's too weak" explained Brock
"Looks to me like you and Melanie both love to take care of Pokémon" Jake said
"We sure do" Brock said as he looks at Melanie playing with the Pokémon
"Well, it looks to me like there's something else Brock might love" teased Misty
This caused Brock to turn red in embarrassment. He flails about and covers Misty's mouth
"Be quiet! She might hear you!" he protested as Misty struggles to get his hand away from her
Ash looks at them in confusion while both Jake and Green sweat dropped as they watched
'Oh boy' thought Jake
The group then begins to think back on the traps they have triggered before coming here
"I wonder who put that net up in the tree?" Ash asked
"Probably the same person who dug the hole I fell into" Misty answered
"I'm sorry. I was the one who set those traps. I wanted to Pokémon Trainers before they reached them. Since you got caught, I guess they really worked" Melanie explained with a giggle.
"That was you?!" Jake yelled in surprise
"But why?" Misty asked
"There are so many injured Pokémon here. I have to protect them" Melanie explained
"Does that mean that the bridge was a trap too?" Green asked
"Yes" answered Melanie
"But did you not think about what would happen if a person or a Pokémon got caught in those traps. They could've really gotten hurt especially Pokémon" Jake said to Melanie as he lightly scolded her.
"Oh. I never thought about it like that" Melanie said a little ashamed of herself
Brock then led his friends around the hidden village.
"I promised Melanie I wouldn't steal any Pokémon here" Brock told them
"And did you seal the promise with a kiss?" teased Misty which caused Brock to bop her in the head. "Ow!"
"So that must mean you really do like her?" Misty teased further. This earns her another bop on the head from Brock
"Was that really necessary?" Jake asked with a sweat drop
"Yes. If Melanie heard that, I would never live with myself" Brock said
"Well I guess I'll have to keep you promise" Ash said
"I just hope those bad guys don't try to come here" Green said
"Yeah. But are those traps tough enough to keep robbers away from this place? I mean you have to be pretty stupid to fall into one of those holes" Ash said
What he said offended Misty
"Hey!"
"But you do have a point, Ash. I can think of three people who would be stupid enough to fall for traps like that" Jake said
"And who would that be?" Misty asked
"Team Rocket. I wouldn't be surprised if they fell for every trap on the way here" Jake said
Green giggled at what Jake had said about Team Rocket
The group then begins to take care of the Pokémon in the hidden village. Ash and Brock was pouring some water on Staryu.
"Do you feel any better, Staryu?" Ash asked with Staryu giving an affirmative cry
Meanwhile Green was taking care of a Bellsprout. She was feeding it some food that Melanie has given her.
"How do you like it, Bellsprout?" she asked
"Bellsprout" it said happily
As for Jake, he and Bulbasaur were watching Misty apologizing to the Oddish they had met earlier
"Sorry about what happened in the forest" apologized Misty
"Oddish" Oddish said
"I shouldn't have surprised you like that. You must've been scared" she continued
"Oddish" said Oddish as it nodded it's head
"Melanie told me your old trainer got rid of you. Was it really because he thought you were too weak?" Misty asked. Oddish nods it's head again
"You know some trainers can be insensitive, but not all of us are mean like that" she said as she pets Oddish. "You just need to find a trainer that understands you."
Both Jake and Bulbasaur smile at Misty's caring side
"Anyway, I'm sorry for what I did. And I hope we can become friends?" Misty asked as she begins to cry.
"Misty. Are you crying?" asked Jake
"No. I just got something in my eye. That's all" Misty said
Oddish sees this and used it's leaf to wipe the tears away
"Oddish oddish" said Oddish
"Your sweet, Oddish. I am sorry" Misty said as she wiped her eyes. "All I think about lately is winning. I hope I'm not becoming heartless"
Ash then comes in with a teasing look
"You're always heartless" he said
"Mind your own business!" Misty yelled at him
Jake and his Bulbasaur both facepalm at their friend ruining the moment. Suddenly, the wild Bulbasaur charges in and hits Misty from behind. This alarmed the group
"Hey, it's rude to tackle people!" Misty yelled
"She's right!" Ash added
The wild Bulbasaur was getting ready to fight them. Jake's Bulbasaur couldn't help but glare at the wild Bulbasaur's behavior. It seems to it that it's wild brethren is under the impression that all Pokémon trainers are bad people and now it wants it's friends out.
"I know. You're just mad that I was going to beat you, but you chickened out and ran off!" Ash snapped
"That must be it!" added Misty
"Then let's see how tough you really are!" Ash said as he and Misty got ready to fight
Before they can do so, Green ran in front of them with Bellsprout accompanying her
"Wait guys! Let's not do anything reckless here" Green said
"Huh?" Ash and Misty said in confusion
"Green's right. Before you guys try to battle, don't you think Bulbasaur has a reason for attacking you?" Jake asked as he and his Bulbasaur walks up.
Melanie then runs up to them
"Your friends are right. Bulbasaur was only trying to protect Oddish. Bulbasaur volunteered to guard our whole village" she explained much to Ash and Misty's surprised. "It protects all the injured Pokémon whenever enemies try to attack them."
"But Misty wasn't trying to attack Oddish" Jake pointed out
"That's true. Bulbasaur is the bravest and most loyal Pokémon I know" Melanie said
"So that's why Bulbasaur attacked me. It must've thought I was taking Oddish from the village." Misty said
Ash then felt something. He looks down to see the wild Bulbasaur pushing against his leg
"Now what?" he asked
"Bulbasaur doesn't like Pokémon trainers. It wants you to leave the village now" Melanie explained
"But we're not here to capture Pokémon. We wanna help you" Misty said
"It's true, Bulbasaur. These are our friends" Melanie added
But the wild Bulbasaur ignored them and continues to push against Ash
"Please Bulbasaur. You have to give us a chance" Jake said
Bulbasaur turns to Jake and begins to growl at him. But before it can do anything, Jake's Bulbasaur jumped in front of it's trainer
"Bulbasaur! Bulba bulba bulba saur!" yelled Jake's Bulbasaur as it told the wild Bulbasaur to back off
The wild Bulbasaur was shocked to see a member of it's own species defending a trainer
"Saur saur! Bulba bulba Bulbasaur!" yelled the wild Bulbasaur as it argued that all trainers are bad and that they abandon Pokémon like them.
"Bulba bulba saur saur!" Jake's Bulbasaur said as it told the wild Bulbasaur that while it's true that some trainers are bad and heartless, not all of them are like that.
"Bulba saur saur!" argued the wild Bulbasaur as it said that it's trainer might do the same
"Saur saur!" Jake's Bulbasaur yelled as it state that Jake is not like that and that he cares for Pokémon
This caused the wild Bulbasaur to become taken aback by it's brethren's argument.
"What do you suppose they are saying?" Green asked Jake
"I don't know. But I think that my Bulbasaur is telling the wild Bulbasaur that while some Pokémon trainers are bad, not all of them are like that. Based on it's attitude, I can say that this Bulbasaur must've been through something awful to make it hate Pokémon trainers. Am I right, Melanie?" Jake asked
"You could be right, Jake" Melanie said
"So Bulbasaur was worried about the other Pokémon so it decided to be the village bodyguard. Now that's what I called bravery. It would be great to have a Pokémon like that" Ash said proudly
Jake smiled at what Ash said. Just then a flying stadium appeared in the sky
"Hey, what's that?" Green asked as she looked up
"It looks like some kind of flying stadium. Wait, is that who I think it is?" Jake asked as he looked at the stadium and sees a familiar trio on it
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Team Rocket! Blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
"That's right!"
"We've said our lines. Time to attack the village" Jessie said
"Those village idiots thought their measly traps would stop us. They thought they have the home team advantage" James smirked
"No such luck! We're the home team now" Jessie said
"I congratulate myself for this brilliant scheme" James said
"Don't forget, I suggested tying balloons on the stadium roof" Meowth reminded.
Everyone watched as the Team Rocket trio then landed the stadium right in front of them
"Here we go again" Ash said
"Today only at Jessie Stadium. It's the Team Rocket Pokémon challenge!" Jessie stated
"The flying stadium was my idea!" James said to her
"Oh!" Jessie said as she chuckled nervously
The stadium opens up and a large vaccuum comes out and begins to suck everything in
"Oh no!" yelled Green
"All Pokémon are invited to enter the stadium!" Jessie stated mockingly
"Step right up!" added James
"Yeah! We're not hosing ya. Well maybe we are!" Meowth mocked
Staryu was the first to get caught in the suction, but Ash catches it
"They never run out of of ideas, do they?" asked Ash
"They sure don't" said Jake as he and Bulbasaur were trying to resist the suction
Bellsprout was then pulled in by the suction
"Bellsprout!" yelled Green as she dived in and grabbed Bellsprout. But then sees that she is being pulled to the vacuum. "Help!"
"Green! Bulbasaur, use your vines to grab her. Hurry!" Jake ordered
"Saur!" His Bulbasaur said as he runs in and uses it's vines to grab Green and tries to pull back. But the suction is so strong, that it begins to slowly pull them in
Just then, another set of vines came in and grabs Green. Jake's Bulbasaur looks in surprise to see the wild Bulbasaur helping it out. The wild Bulbasaur gave it a smile to which Jake's Bulbasaur gives back in return. Working together, the two Bulbasaurs begin to pull Green and Bellsprout back to group. They then set Green and Bellsprout down. Green sighs in relief
"Are you okay?" Jake asked
"Yeah. I'm fine. Thanks to the Bulbasaurs" Green said with a smile
"Hurry! Everybody get in the cabin!" Brock yelled as Melanie, Green and all the wild Pokémon ran inside.
Oddish was getting sucked in. Misty tries to grab it, but she misses
"No! Oddish!" she yelled
Before Oddish can get sucked in, the wild Bulbasaur caught it with it's vines and pulls it in
"Bulbasaur!" Misty said happily
"Take Staryu!" Ash said as he gives Staryu to Misty. He then runs over to Bulbasaur and begins to push it from the back. "Keep going, Bulbasaur!"
Just as Ash, Bulbasaur, and Oddish makes it to the cabin. They got inside while Jake closes the door.
"Those rotten little pests! They're always ruining our flawless plans!" Jessie snapped
"Not this time. They've gathered all of them in one place" James said
"Our super vacuum we'll suck 'em up!" Meowth snapped
They controlled the vacuum to suck at the cabin
"Let's go team! To steal 'em is our dream! Let's go rocket! Put Pokémon in our pocket!" the Team Rocket trio sang.
The two Bulbasaurs then came up on the roof. Nodding to each other, they shot out their vines and wacked the vacuum away from the cabin. Once that was done, Ash and Jake both came out to do battle with their enemies.
"Pidgeotto, I choose you!"
"Pikachu, I choose you!"
Ash and Jake sent out their Pidgeotto and Pikachu
"Pidgeotto, Gust attack!" Ash ordered
Pidgeotto flaps it's wings to create Gust to counter the wind from the vacuum. It then forms into a tornado.
"And the tornado is winding up" James said as he acted like he is throwing a pitch
"But will it strike us out?" Jessie asked in worry
"There goes the whole ball game" groaned Meowth as the tornado gets nearer
"Let's add some power to this typhoon! Pikachu, Thundershock full power!" Jake said
His Pikachu did what he said as she unleashes Thundershock to supercharge the tornado
"And Electric Tornado!?" Meowth shouted
"That's not good!" gulped James
The trio was then sucked in the vortex and begins to spin around while begin electrocuted at the same time.
"So what do we do now!?" Meowth screamed
"Challenge then to wind surfing or playing with thunder!?" Jessie shrieked
Then the stadium gets sucked into the vortex as well. Everyone comes out just in time to watch Team Rocket get blown far away by the tornado
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Meowth shouted
"Is everyone feeling okay?" Melanie asked
"I just got the wind knocked out of me" joked Ash
"Me too. But I will say this: It sure sucks to be Team Rocket right now" Jake added with a pun
This makes all of his friends laugh at his pun.
The wild Bulbasaur then spoke happy. Jake's Bulbasaur smiled at it
"This village is well protected with Bulbasaur here" Ash said
"Ash, don't you agree that Bulbasaur would be an excellent addition to your team?" Melanie asked
"Oh yeah! Would he ever?!" Ash yelled excitedly
"I think Bulbasaur should go with you" Melanie said
"Huh?" Ash said in surprise
"Bulbasaur has stayed her to protect the weak Pokémon, but this village is too small. The bulb on it's back can't grow. It needs to go out in the world now. And I know you'll take good care of it" Melanie assured
Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur both smiled at what she said.
"Please do me this favor. Take Bulbasaur with you on your journey. He'll be a good companion" Melanie said
"But what will happen to the village without Bulbasaur?" Misty asked
"Yeah, who's going to protect you?" asked Brock
"It's true that Bulbasaur has done a great job. Maybe too great a job. You see, these Pokémon shouldn't remain in this village forever and ever. After they recover, the Pokémon are suppose to leave, but it's too safe here. So none of them wants to go away. They don't want to return to the outside world." explained Melanie.
Bellsprout frowned at this. It then looked at Green. It remembered how much Green had cared for it and how she saved it from Team Rocket. That's Bellsprout made it's decision
"But I think that it's important that all of them return to the wild. That's where Pokémon belong. And hopefully someday, they'll find good trainers like the five of you." Melanie continue to explain
Jake and Green both smiled at Melanie's explanation. She did raised a good point that these Pokémon can't stay in the village for long
"Of course, taking care of sick Pokémon will always be my mission, but I know my job isn't finished until they return where they come from. So it's the day a Pokémon leaves that is most rewarding to me" Melanie said
"Melanie, I..." Brock was going to say but never gets the chance as Melanie walks up to Ash
"So you see, it's time for Bulbasaur to leave here. Please take it with you. It won't be a burden. I promise. Bulbasaur still has a lot of growing to do. I want it to be in a place I am sure it grow strong and happy. I'm sure that place is with you, Ash" assured Melanie
"Well, if you really want me to" Ash said as he thought it over.
"Bulbasaur" the wild Bulbasaur said to Melanie which makes her giggle
"What did it say?" Ash asked
"Bulbasaur will join you on one condition. It wants to battle you in a Pokémon match. Right Bulbasaur?" asked Melanie
The wild Bulbasaur nods it's head
"Ha! If you want a match, you'll get it!" Ash said with a grin
Green then felt something tapped her leg. She looks down to see Bellsprout
"What is it Bellsprout?" she asked
Bellsprout begins to tell Green something. Melanie understood.
"I think Bellsprout want to come with you, Green. But only if you beat it in a battle." Melanie said
"Well in that case. Let's do it!" Green said with determination.
Ash and Green then both got in position as they start the battle with both Bulbasaur and Bellsprout
"Oh please! Let me battle with Bulbasaur! Pretty please!" begged Misty
"No way!" Ash yelled bluntly
"And besides, Misty. You already had your chance when you battled Bulbasaur last time" Jake also said
This caused Misty to slump at that reminder
"Eevee, come out!" Green said as she let Eevee out
"Eevee!" Eevee said
Ash had sent his Pikachu to face Bulbasaur. The battle then begins
"Pikachu, go!" Ash yelled
Pikachu charges at Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur shots it's vines at Pikachu. Pikachu dodges each of them, but Bulbasaur charges in and tackles Pikachu which sends him up in the air.
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled.
"Eevee, Quick Attack on Bellsprout!" Green ordered
Eevee charges at Bellsprout with Quick Attack. Bellsprout attempts to hit it with it's vines, but Eevee dodges all of them and hits Bellsprout which knocks it back. Bellsprout recovers and fires Vine Whip to grab Eevee and slams it to the ground.
"Eevee!" Green said
Meanwhile, Pikachu was recovering from Bulbasaur's attack
"Look out, Pikachu!" warned Ash. Bulbasaur knocks Pikachu into the air again. Pikachu regained himself and lands back on the ground. Pikachu then counters back by hitting Bulbasaur back.
"Oh yeah. You got it, buddy!" called Jake
"Saur!" said Jake's Bulbasaur
But the wild Bulbasaur used it's vines to wrap around Pikachu and slams it to the ground
"The Vine Whip is Bulbasaur's special move" Misty said
The Bulbasaur then continues to slam Pikachu with it's vines. Jake then notices the vines connected to the wild Bulbasaur
"Hey, Ash! Try using an electric attack on the vines" Jake said to Ash
"You heard him, Pikachu. Use Thundershock! Ash ordered
Pikachu did what Ash said and uses Thundershock. The Thundershock travels through the vines and shocked Bulbasaur making it cry in pain. Bulbasaur became paralyzed and fall on it's side. Back to Green, her Eevee was slowly getting up
"Eevee, are you alright?" she asked
"Vee" Her Eevee responded as it nods it's head
Bellsprout then unleashes Stun Spore
"It's using Stun Spore! Eevee, dodge with Quick Attack and then use Sand Attack!" Green said
Eevee quickly used Quick Attack to get away from the Stun Spore. After that Eevee then kicked sand into Bellsprout's eyes, blinding it.
"That's great. Bellsprout's blind" Misty said
"Now's your chance, Green!" Jake called
Green giggles at this
"Eevee, move in with Tackle and follow it up with Quick Attack!" Green ordered
Eevee did what it's trainer said it charges in and Tackles Bellsprout and then uses Quick Attack which knocks Bellsprout up in the air. Bellsprout then fell on it's head and hits the ground.
"Poké Ball go!" Ash and Green said as they both threw their Poké Balls at Bulbasaur and Bellsprout. The balls hit them and sucks them in. Everyone looks to see the two Poké Balls shake until, they both lock.
"We did it! We got Bulbasaur!" Ash said
"Pika!" Pikachu said while making a peace sign
"And I got a Bellsprout!" Green said
"Eeevee!" Eevee cried
"Way to go, you two!" Jake said as he walks up to them
"Bulbasaur" Jake's Bulbasaur said as it walks up with it's trainer
"Bulbasaur. Bellsprout. I'll miss you both" Melanie said
It was time for the group to get back on the road. They were saying goodbye to Melanie and all the other Pokémon
"Have a safe trip." Melanie said
"I promise to take good care of Bulbasaur" Ash said
"And I'll take good care of Bellsprout, Melanie" Green added
"Bulbasaur, thank you for watching over us. And Bellsprout, be safe with your new trainer." Melanie said to Bulbasaur and Bellsprout. They both said "Bulba" and "Bellsprout" happily. Brock then walks up to Melanie with a blush
"Um. Melanie" he said
"Yes?" Melanie asked
"Since Bulbasaur is leaving, I wouldn't mind staying and helping you out" Brock offered
"It's very kind of you, but we'll be okay. I wouldn't want to keep you from all of your wonderful adventures" Melanie said as she turns down his offer.
"Oh, I guess you're right!" Brock said as he turns his head to the side
The group then left the village
"Goodbye, Melanie!" Ash called
"See ya later!" Jake called
"Goodbye! Good luck!" Melanie called as she and the other Pokémon wave goodbye
Ash's new Bulbasaur looks back at them
"Bulbasaur"
"Don't worry Bulbasaur. You'll see you friends again. As soon as the the Pokémon feel better, they'll leave this village too" Ash assured his new Bulbasaur
Jake's Bulbasaur walks up to it's brethren
"Bulba bulba" said Jake's Bulbasaur as it assured Ash's Bulbasaur that everything's gonna be okay. This makes Ash's Bulbasaur smile at that. Even Bellsprout becomes satisfied with that
"Take good care of each other! Goodbye!" Melanie called out
Brock looks back and then sighs. That's when Misty comes up to him
"So! What did Melanie say when you said you loved her? Did you kiss her goodbye?" asked Misty teasingly only for Brock to cover her mouth.
"That's enough stupid questions! Would you please stop embarrassing me already!? You know. Okay so she's cute. I understand that, but you didn't have to keep rubbing it in!" Brock complained
Ash, Jake, Green, Pikachu, Bellsprout and the two Bulbasaurs watch this
"Did I miss something? What's going on?" Ash asked
"I'm sure you'll understand when you're older" Jake replied
Green looks at Jake. She then leans over and gives him a peck on the cheek. This catches Jake by surprise
"What was that for?" he asked as he put his hand on the spot where Green kissed him
"For saving my life two times" Green said with a wink
Jake blushed and laughs nervously
Jake's Bulbasaur smiles at this while Ash's Bulbasaur and Green's Bellsprout were focused on watching Brock and Misty's antics.
