Here Comes the Squirtle Squad
We join our heroes as they are walking down the road. Ash was pretty pleased with himself that he has caught Charmander. He was marching down the road while singing a little tune with Jake following behind.
'Looks like someone is being carefree today' Jake thought as he looks at Ash
Suddenly, Ash's foot gets caught in the ground causing him and his friends to stop.
"What's wrong, Ash? Did you step in something?" Green asked
Then, they all fall into a pithole
"No! Not another hole!" Misty yelled
"Ow! I landed on my head!" Brock cried
"And I'm not able to escape this time" Jake added
In the hole, Ash was rubbing his back while Jake was rubbing his head
"It must be a prank" Brock said
"Someone has a bad sense of humor" Misty added
"Who would play such a rotten trick?" Ash asked
"Could it be Team Rocket again?" Green asked
"I don't think so" Jake said as he looked up
The group looked up to see a group of Squirtles wearing sunglasses. They were laughing at them
"It's a group of Squirtles" gasped Green
"So they're the ones that dug this trap" Jake said with a glare
"Saur" Bulbasaur growled
"That's not funny. We could've gotten hurt" Misty scolded
The Squirtles continue to laugh at the group. The five trainers then climbed out of the hole
"Dangerous practical jokes are nothing to laugh about!" yelled Ash
"Pikachu" Pikachu said
"What he said!" Jake yelled
"Saur saur!" Bulbasaur added
Ash then walks up to the Squirtles and takes out his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: Squirtle. This Tiny Turtle Pokémon draws its long neck into its shell to launch incredible Water attacks with amazing range and accuracy. The blasts can be quite powerful.
"With my very own Squirtle, Gary will never beat me!" Ash said confidently
"You're going to catch it, are you?" Jake asked
"Oh yeah! Pikachu go!" Ash ordered
Pikachu charges in and unleashes an Electric attack at a Squirtle that appears to be the leader, but one of the Squirtles got in the way and took the attack.
"Wow, talk about taking one for the team" Jake commented
Bulbasaur just look at this in surprise
"Pika" Pikachu said
"Squirtle" said the lead Squirtle
The both glare at each other. In a way, it was starting become a western showdown. Before any of them can make a move, a police siren was heard.
"Squirtle Squirtle. Squirtle Squirtle." the lead Squirtle ordered
The other Squirtles picked up their fallen comrade and they all retreated.
"That was sure weird" Ash said
"Yeah. I wonder where they're off to?" Green asked
"Probably away from what's making that noise" Jake replied
Just then Officer Jenny, who was on her motorcycle approached them
"Are you guys alright? Has anyone been hurt here?" she asked
"Officer Jenny!" Ash said which confused the officer
"Huh? Have we met before? Your face doesn't look familiar" Officer Jenny replied
"We met you back in Viridian City. Remember?" Ash asked
"Um, Ash. I think we're meeting a different Officer Jenny. That could be the reason why she doesn't recognize us" Jake said
"He's right. You see the Jenny you are talking about is my cousin" Officer Jenny replied as she understood what Ash was talking about
"Cousin?" Green asked
"My cousins are all police officers. All of us look identical. Plus we're all named Jenny" Officer Jenny explained
She then takes out a photograph and shows it to the group. The photos shows a bunch of Officer Jennys and by the looks of it, they all look identical.
"Talk about family resemblance" Ash said
"Yeah, I can't tell which one is which" Jake added
"At least they remember all their names" Misty said
The officer then led them to the police station. Unbeknownst to them, a Sandshrew came out of the ground. It was watching them curiously
"Sandshrew" it said
At the police station, the five trainers told Officer Jenny about the gang of Squirtles and how they had set the pitfall trap.
"That Pokémon gang calls themselves the Squirtle Squad" Officer Jenny explained.
"Squirtle Squad?" Ash asked
"I've never heard of a Pokémon gang" Misty said
"They're all Squirtles who were deserted by their Pokémon trainers" Officer Jenny explained
"Deserted?" Jake asked as he recalled what happened to Charmander when it had to sit on the rock in the rain
"They don't have a trainer. So they run wild and play tricks on the whole town" Officer Jenny continued as she recalled all the pranks that the Squirtles have committed such as vandalism and stealing food from a market.
"That's awful" Green said sadly
"I know. It's really kinda sad because if they had somebody to care about them, they wouldn't turn out to be as sad as they are. It's a real shame" Officer Jenny replied
'I sure am lucky my Squirtle is not like that. I wonder if I could have my Squirtle talk with them' thought Green
After parting ways with Officer Jenny, the group were at a lake resting. Misty was fishing and Green then decides to let out her Squirtle
"Squirtle, come out" Green said
Squirtle comes out of the Poké Ball and lands next to her. Jake saw this
"How come you let out Squirtle?" asked Jake
"Well I figured, maybe can I get Squirtle to talk to the Squirtle Squad to get them to stop their pranks" Green explained
"Do you think it'll work?" Jake asked
"It should I mean they're all Squirtles. Maybe the squad can listen to a member of their species" Green said
"Squirtle Squirtle" her Squirtle said
"Well if you're sure" Jake replied which earns him a giggle from Green
Just then, Misty's fishing pole gave a tug as something comes up
"I caught something" she said which caught everyone's attention
One of the Squirtles from the squad pops out and sprays Water Gun at everyone which soaks them. Fortunately, Jake, Green, Bulbasaur, and Green's Squirtle were out of range.
"Guys!" Jake said
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
Green's Squirtle can only glare at the member of it's species as it was laughing. It felt that what it did was very mean.
"I'm soaked" Misty said
"Me too" Ash added
Pikachu shook the water off his fur and went up. It was about to do an Electric attack. Jake and Green saw this and are shocked at what it's going to do
"No, Pikachu! Wait!" Green yelled
But it was too late. As Pikachu unleashed a Thundershock attack, he ended up zapping Ash, Brock, and Misty due to their clothes being wet. Jake, Green, Bulbasaur, and Green's Squirtle stepped back.
"Knock it off, Pikachu!" Ash yelled as he was being zapped
Pikachu stopped it's attack as Ash, Misty, and Brock fell down. Their other friends ran up to them
"Wet clothes conduct electricity" Brock said
The glasses Squirtle then leaps out of the water and lands in front of the group
"I've had enough of your pranks, Squirtle!" Ash yelled, but before he can order Pikachu to attack, Green stepped up
"Wait, Ash. Let my Squirtle talk to it first" Green said
"Green?" Ash asked
"Please, Ash. Maybe that Squirtle can be reasoned with" Green pleaded
"Well I'm not sure that will work, but okay." Ash said
"Thanks, Ash. Squirtle, go and talk to it" Green told her Squirtle
Her Squirtle nodded it's head and walks up to the sun glasses Squirtle. The glasses Squirtle was surprised to see a member of it's kind here and with a human no less.
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle" said Green's Squirtle as it was telling it that what it's doing is wrong and it should stop playing jokes.
"Squirtle Squirt Squirt Squirtle!" the sun glasses Squirtle responded as it said that what it and the squad does is fun and that Green's Squirtle should join them and ditch the human
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirt!" yelled Green's Squirtle as it clearly stated that it would never abandon Green and it's idea of fun is a joke
Angered by this, the glasses Squirtle shoots Water Gun at Green's Squirtle which pushes it back to the group. They gasped at what has happened
"Squirtle!" Green yelled as she ran to it as her Squirtle got up
"That's it! Pikachu, go!" Ash yelled
Pikachu races up to the glasses Squirtle. The Squirtle jumped up and goes in it's shell and begins spinning
"Heads up, Ash. That Squirtle's using Rapid Spin!" Jake yelled
"Huh!?" Ash said
The Squirtle hits Pikachu and knocks him into the water
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled
"Oh no!" Green yelled
"Squirtle!" yelled Green's Squirtle in shock while glaring back at the sunglasses Squirtle
Suddenly, a Goldeen hopped out of the water and is targeting Pikachu
"It's a Goldeen! Watch out for it's horn!" Misty warned
Pikachu pops it's head out of the water
"Swim to shore, Pikachu! Hurry up!" Ash yelled
Pikachu did what his trainer said and begins to swim for it with Goldeen gaining on him.
"Faster! Faster!" Ash called out
Just as Pikachu was swimming faster, Goldeen suddenly land a hit on Pikachu with it's horn. Everyone gasped as Pikachu landed on the surface
"No!" Jake yelled
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled
He begins to run to his Pokémon, but some lassoed him and his friends along with Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle
"What's going on here?" Jake asked
"They got us" Ash answered
The group turn to see the Squirtle Squad had lassoed them
"The Squirtle Squad" Green said
The Squirtle Squad then proceed to spin around them to tie them up
"Wow. They're good" Jake said
"Tell me about it" Ash said
Meowth then appeared
"You're not gonna Squirtle out of this one" he said with a chuckle
"It's Meowth!" Misty yelled
"I should've known" Jake said
Behind a tree, Sandshrew was watching the group being tied up. It knew that they're in trouble and decides to follow them
The Squirtle Squad and Meowth took the five trainers and their Pokémon to a cave. They have tied the humans and their Pokémon to a rock. Pikachu was kept in a cage.
"I'm the Pokémon in charge here. Just wait til my human pets get back" Meowth fibbed
Meowth then begins to tease Ash by rubbing his tail in his nose, but Ash bites his tail. Meowth yowls in pain and jumps into the air
"Good one, Ash" Jake said
"Heh. Don't believe him, Squirtle. Meowth's a big liar!" Ash said to the squad
"Yeah. Whatever it is he told you, it's not true. And those humans are not his pets. They're only using you to do their dirty work" Jake added
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirt Squirtle!" Green's Squirtle begged them as it just told them that they speak the truth
"Quiet, humans!" Meowth yelled as he clawed Ash and Jake's faces
"Ow! Why you!" Jake grumbled
"Who are you gonna believe? These humans and that human loving traitor or a fellow Pokémon?" Meowth asked the squad
"What was that?" Green asked angrily. She did not like the way Meowth spoked about her Squirtle
"Squirtle! Squirtle Squirtle" The Squirtle Squad responded as they favor Meowth. This caused Green's Squirtle to sigh in disappointment.
The group turn to see Pikachu in the cage. It wasn't looking so good
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur in worry
"Ash, Pikachu's in bad shape" Brock said
"Huh?" Ash asked
"That attack from Goldeen's horn must've caused some serious damage to Pikachu" Jake said
"We have to do something" Green said
"We've got to heal Pikachu with some super potion before it's too late" Brock said urgently
"But we don't have any Super Potion on us" Jake said
"A shop in this town sells it." Brock said
"In town?" Ash asked. He then turns to the Squirtle Squad. "Squirtle Squad, please you have to let me go into town. If I don't get that medicine, Pikachu is in a lot of trouble"
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle" said the lead Squirtle as it shook it's head
"They know you humans are just trying to get away" translated Meowth
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle" Green's Squirtle said
"Oh. So you're saying they should trust him?" Meowth translated
"Squirtle Squirt" Green's Squirtle said with a nod
"Yeah. As soon as I buy the medicine, I'll come back. I promise" Ash said
"Squirtle" the lead Squirtle responded
"Squirtle says promises are cheap" translated Meowth
"What?!" Jake yelled
"I'm begging you! Please trust me!" Ash pleaded as tears forms in his eyes
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle!" yelled Green's Squirtle much to the Squirtle Squad's shock
"How can they be so heartless?!" Meowth translated in surprise
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirt Squirtle Squirtle!" Green's Squirtle continued
"You're saying the kid means it when he says that he will get the medicine and come back?" Meowth translated again
"You heard my Squirtle! Please, you have to let him do this. Do you want to let Pikachu die?" Green asked with tears in her eyes
The lead Squirtle was still shocked by what Green's Squirtle had said. He looked at Ash crying and then back to Pikachu. It then made a decision.
"Squirtle Squirtle" Squirtle said
"The leader said that you have a deal. But he's going to send only two of you. The rest of you will be staying here" Meowth translated as he looks at Ash and Jake
The Squirtle Squad then untied Ash and Jake.
"Squirtle Squirtle" the lead Squirtle said
"The Squirtle says that if you two are not back here by noon tomorrow, then the brown haired girl will have her hair shaved off" Meowth translated
Green shrieked at this while making Jake angry
"You wouldn't dare!" he yelled
"Try us" Meowth said with an evil grin
"Don't worry we'll be back. So long. Be back in a flash" Ash said as he runs off
"Just so you know: If you harm one hair on Green's head, you'll be sorry!" Jake threatened as he follows after his best friend. What Jake said made Green blushed
"That kid sure has the hots for ya" Meowth said to Green
"Oh shut up" Green said as she turns her head away
"Good luck you two" Misty said
'Even if those two do make it back, we'll all be long gone' thought Meowth with an evil chuckle. Bulbasaur narrowed it's eyes at Meowth. It knows that whatever Meowth is thinking, it's no good.
Back to the boys, they running down the hill.
"Pick up the pace, Jake!" Ash said
"I'm going as fast as I can, buddy" Jake replied
'Hang on a little longer, Pikachu. I'll get you that super potion' Ash thought. He then tripped on a rock and fell down
"Ash, are you okay?" Jake asked as he ran up to him.
"I'm fine, Jake" said Ash as he got back up. "But we gotta keep going. Pikachu needs us to get that medicine"
"Right" Jake responded
The two friends kept going until they came across a rickety old bridge. Both Ash and Jake gulped
"Just don't look down" Ash said
The two boys walked on the bridge, but a plank breaks under Ash's foot
"Whoa!"
"Careful, Ash. This bridge is pretty old, so we're gonna have to watch our step" Jake said
"Got it" Ash said
The two friends then crossed the bridge by sidestepping but then Ash fell through a part of the bridge. Luckily, Jake grabbed him by the hand
"I gotcha" Jake said
"Thanks, buddy" Ash said
"Well at least things can't get any worse" Jake said
Suddenly, the bridge breaks causing Ash and Jake to fall into the water below. Ash was then speared in the rear end by a Goldeen. He yowled in pain
"And it looks like I jinxed us" Jake replied with a sweat drop
Having made their way out of the water, Ash and Jake have finally made it into town. They then notice a shop
"That's it! That's the place" Ash said
"Finally. Let's get that medicine and get back to the others" Jake added
The two friends reached the store. Before they can open it, they get hit in the face by the door opened by Gary Oak who was leaving the place.
"I beg your pardon" Ash said in a daze
"Ouch" Jake said in a daze
The two friends then fell down in an alleyway
At night back in the cave, Ash and Jake's friends never took their eyes off Pikachu
"Pikachu, don't give up" Brock said
"Ash and Jake will be back here with the medicine soon. Just hold on" Misty pleaded
'Ash, Jake. I hope you guys make it back soon. Pikachu needs you' thought Green with worry
'Where are Jessie and James already?' Meowth thought nervously
As Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle were watching Pikachu, they suddenly hear something. They turn to see a hole being dug near them. Out came Sandshrew
"Shrew shrew" Sandshrew said quietly
Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle looked at each other.
The next morning, Ash and Jake were still in the alley still knocked out. A few minutes later, Jake woke up and rubbed his head. He then hears something.
"Alright, Freeze!" Jessie's voice was heard
"These are ice packs we're gunning. I mean ice guns we're packing" James said as he corrected himself
"It's Team Rocket!" someone said
"Cool. We're just like those supervillains in the comics except better looking" Jessie said
"And even meaner" James added
Jake begins to shake Ash to wake him up. Ash slowly wakes up and looks at his friend. Jake then proceeds to point at the store. They then begins to listen in on Jessie and James' conversation
"Listen up! We want all the flash powder you've got" Jessie demanded
"And a large role of dental floss" James added
"What do you need them for?" a clerk asked
"You want to get rid of the Squirtle Squad. Don't you? The flash powder will scare them out of town. The floss is for our teeth" Jessie said
"The Squirtle Squad" Ash and Jake said in unison
"Ciao for now!" James said as he and Jessie steps out of the store with a box
"Farewell" Jessie said as she shoots something in the store with a bazooka
Jessie and James then gets in their hot air balloon shaped like a Meowth and flew off. Ash and Jake saw this.
"So that's their plan. Team Rocket was only using the Squirtle Squad so that they can grab those flash powder from the store. Then they'll betray them next and snatch Pikachu and my Bulbasaur" Jake said
"We've gotta get back before they snatch them" Ash
He was about to run off, but Jake grabs him by shoulder
"Wait Ash. Aren't you forgetting something?" Jake asked
"Oh yeah" Ash said
The two boys rushed into the store
"Super potion, please!" Ash said
But there were met with guns pointed at them by the clerk and patrons
"Whoa whoa whoa! What is this?" Jake asked in suprise
"We don't need a gun" Ash said nervously
"Wait! You've got it all wrong! You see..." Jake started to explain
"Stop!" Officer Jenny called as she rushed in. "Drop those. They're not with Team Rocket!"
After purchasing the Super Potion and explaining to Officer Jenny what happened, the officer was giving the two boys a ride on her motorcycle
"Step on it, Jenny" Ash said
"Yeah, we have to get to the cave before noon" Jake added
"Just hang on you two!" Officer Jenny said. She gasped and stopped her bike to see the bridge that Ash and Jake tried to cross earlier.
"A dead end" she said
She then started her motorcycle and drove right. They then stopped at a part of a cave
"Here's a secret entrance to the cave" Officer Jenny said
"It looks kinda small" Jake said
"The passageway is too narrow for an adult, but maybe you boys can squeeze through" Officer Jenny told them.
"We can do it" Ash said
"Yeah" Jake added
Ash and Jake both went inside the cave.
"Be careful Ash. And you too, Jake" Officer Jenny said
The two friends were making their way inside the cave. But they couldn't see as it is dark.
"It's too dark to see in here. Hey, I know." said Ash as he gets an idea. He takes out a Poké Ball. "Charmander, I choose you!"
The Poké Ball opens and Charmander comes out.
"Char Char"
"Good thinking, Ash. Now we can navigate through the caves" Jake said
"Thanks. Charmander, lead the way" Ash said
Charmander did just that as it lead the two boys through the cave. Just then, they heard footsteps.
"What was that?" Jake said
They look up ahead to see Bulbasaur, Green's Squirtle, and a Sandshrew
"Hey. It's Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle" Ash said
"Yeah. And is that a wild Sandshrew?" Jake asked
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur greeted
"Squirtle" Squirtle also greeted
"Shrew" Sandshrew
The Pokémon run up to them
"It's good to see you guys. But how did you escape?" asked Jake
"Bulbasaur Bulba" explained Bulbasaur
A flashback shows that in the cave, Sandshrew sneaked over and cut the rope that was holding Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle. Then he signals it to follow it into the hole while no one was looking. Bulbasaur and Green's Squirtle then jumped into hole and begin to made their way through the tunnel that Sandshrew was digging which lead to the secret entrance. They had notice something blocking the way before running off
"Wow. So Sandshrew helped you guys get away." Ash said impressed
"Yeah. Nice work, Sandshrew" Jake said
"Shrew" said Sandshrew as it rubbed it's head
"Say. Do you think you guys can lead us back to where our friends are being held?" Jake asked
The Pokémon nod their heads and lead them through the tunnel. The boys and Charamander followed them. They then made it to the blockade in the tunnel. Ash pushes the boulder off and he, Jake, and the Pokémon took turns going through. But when they got to the room where they were tied up, they became shocked to see that their friends, Meowth, the Squirtle Squad, and Pikachu were gone.
"They're gone!" Ash said in shock "Pikachu! Misty!"
"Green!" called Jake as he feared what would happened to her
The boys and their Pokémon rushed out of the cave where they see the Squirtle Squad and Meowth waiting for them
"What have you done!? I told you we'd be back by noon and we are! What did you do to our friends!?" Ash demanded
"I swear, if you guys harmed them in anyway...!" Jake threatened
"We're over here, guys" Green said
The boys turn to see their friends standing next to them. Brock was holding Pikachu. The boys become relieved that they're okay. Green's Squirtle runs over to Green who kneels down and pets it. The friends then walk up to them
"Did you guys get the super potion for Pikachu?" asked Misty
"We sure did. Show them, Ash" Jake said
"Right" Ash said as he took it out of his pocket "Here"
"Let's spray it on Pikachu" Misty said as she takes the potion and sprays it on Pikachu
Jake was looking at Green. She notices him
"Jake" she said
Jake rushes in and gives her a hug which catches her off guard. Green blushed as Jake hugged her. After a few seconds, Jake lets go
"I'm just glad you're okay and your head's not shaved" he said with tears in his eyes.
"Aw thanks, Jake" Green said with a giggle
Bulbasaur and Sandshrew both smiled as they watched this
"You see, Jake. The Squirtle Squad was bluffing" Brock said
"Yeah. They may play tricks, but they would never do something extreme like shaving a girl's head" Misty added
"Really?" asked Jake
The Squirtle Squad begins to laugh at what they put Jake through. But suddenly, a blast on the mountain side went off.
"That blast!" Ash yelled
"Team Rocket!" Jake added
"Saur!" Bulbasaur growled
"Shrew" Sandshrew growled as well
Jessie and James appeared on the Meowth hot air balloon
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all people within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the stars above!"
"Jessie!"
"James!"
"Squirtle Squad! It's payback time for insulting Team Rocket!" Jessie said
"Bombs away!" Jessie and James said as they threw some bombs at the mountain side
"Meowth, carry Pikachu up the ladder! And if you can, grab Bulbasaur too" Jessie ordered as a ladder was thrown from the balloon
"And the rest of you are in for a blast. Get it?" James said as he made a pun.
Meowth ran over and caught Pikachu
"Gotcha. Now for you, Bulbasaur" Meowth said as he begins to charge at Bulbasaur
But Sandshrew jumps in and slash Meowth away
"Ow! Fine, at least I have Pikachu" he said as he grabbed the ladder and the balloon starts to go up
"Pikachu!" cried Ash
"Incoming!" Jake cried as Team Rocket begins to bombard them with bombs
"Quick! Run for cover!" Ash told everyone
"You heard him! Go go go!" Jake added
"Hurry!" Misty urged
The trainers and the Squirtle Squad ran into the cave. Sandshrew tripped, but luckily Jake ran over and picked it up as they ran into the cave. Just as Ash was about to go inside the cave...
"Squirtle!"
Ash turned to see the Squirtle Squad leader on it's back and unable to get up
"Squirtle!" he cried
Just as Team Rocket threw some more bombs, Ash dives at the leader
"Here I come!"
He covers Squirtle, just as the bombs detonate. Everyone was horrified as they watched this
"Ash!" called Misty
"No!" yelled Jake
"Saur!" yelled Bulbasaur
"Squirtle!" Green's Squirtle cried
The smoke uncovers to reveal Ash and Squirtle
"Hey Squirtle. Are you okay?" Ash asked
The lead Squirtle can only look at Ash. It couldn't believe that the boy risked his life for it. Even though it didn't like humans, Squirtle started to realize that Ash wasn't like the human that abandoned it years ago. Team Rocket then threw more bombs at them
"Here comes two more!" called Misty
"Get out of there, Ash!" Green called
"Save yourself Squirtle. Run for it" Ash said to the lead Squirtle
But Squirtle, having been inspired by Ash's bravery, immediately lifted him over his head which startles him.
"Whoa!" Jake said surprised
"Squirtle" Green's Squirtle said as it was impressed by the lead Squirtle's strength
The lead Squirtle then proceeds to carry Ash to the cave while avoiding more bombs that Team Rocket has thrown. It then leaps into the cave which knocks eveyone over.
"Thank goodness you're alright, Ash. You could've gotten killed" said Jake as he hugged Ash
"I know, buddy. But it's thanks to Squirtle that I'm okay" Ash assured as he returned the hug
"Squirtle" the lead Squirtle said
"I hate to ruin the moment, but Team Rocket still has Pikachu" Green reminded. Jake and Ash broke the hug
"Well then. Why don't we take care of them?" Jake said with a smirk
"You read my mind. Hey Squirtle, you want to help us?" Ash asked the lead Squirtle
"Squirtle" said the lead Squirtle with a nod
Meanwhile outside, the bombs that Team Rocket threw has caused the forest to catch on fire. Team Rocket flew the balloon over and saw no sign of the Squirtle Squad or their enemies.
"No more Squirtle Squad. The town will give us medals and we'll be heroes" Jessie said
"I wouldn't celebrate just yet if I were you!" Jake called out
"Who said that?" Jessie asked
The trio turn to see Ash, Jake, and the lead Squirtle on top of the cave
"Weren't they?" Jessie asked
"Didn't they?" James asked
"How did they?" puzzled Meowth
"Squirtle, Water Gun attack now!" Ash ordered
The lead Squirtle complied and fired Water Gun at the balloon which punctures a hole in it which makes it shake. The trio was startled and James accidentally drops Pikachu.
"Pikachu!" Ash cried
"Beedrill, catch it!" Jake said as he throws his Poké Ball and lets out Beedrill. Beedrill flies over and grabs Pikachu. It then flies back and drops Pikachu in Ash's hands.
"Thanks Beedrill" Ash said
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!" The Team Rocket trio shouted as the balloon flies out of control and in the distance
The two boys and Squirtle then made their way down. And looks at the fire that was spreading in the forest. Their friends, the Pokémon, and the Squirtle Squad joins them.
"A fire. The blast must've set it off" Brock said
Officer Jenny then rode in
"If it keeps burning, the whole town will go up in smoke" she said
Green's Squirtle then gets an idea. It goes over to the Squirtle Squad
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle Squirt Squirtle Squirtle" Green's Squirtle explained as it points at the fire and to them and also begins spewing water gun to show what they should do
The Squirtle Squad all nod their heads in agreement. Ash gets the idea
"I get it! Green's Squirtle is telling the Squirtle Squad that if they work together, they can combined their Water Gun attacks to put out the fire" Ash said
"Wow. Good idea, Squirtle" Green said to her Squirtle which it nods it's head
The Squirtle Squad along with Green's Squirtle then proceeds to shoot their Water Guns at the fire in the forest. And soon, all the fire was out.
With that deed accomplished, they were back in the town where the Squirtle Squad was being awarded for their heroic deeds
"And so, we gratefully award the certificate to the Squirtle Squad. Thank you for saving our town from the fire. Because of your skill and bravery, we proudly appoint you the town firefighters" Officer Jenny announced
Everybody applauded the Squirtle Squad as they received a certificate and were given coats. The lead Squirtle then goes up to Green's Squirtle
"Squirtle Squirtle" said the lead Squirtle as it thanked it for helping them
"Squirtle Squirtle Squirtle" said Green's Squirtle as it said it was nothing
"Squirt Squirt Squirtle" said the lead Squirtle as it apologized to it for what happened back at the cave
"Squirt Squirtle Squirtle" said Green's Squirtle as it pats it on the shell. It has forgiven it for what has happened.
The lead Squirtle smiled. The rest of the squad gathered around Green's Squirtle and begins to throw it up in the air. Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur watched this.
"How do you like that, Green? Your Squirtle is an honorary member of the squad" Jake said with a smile
"Yeah. I guess your right" giggled Green
"Bulbasaur" said Bulbasaur in amusement
Sandshrew looked at Jake. It feels like it wants to come with him
With their adventures in the town done, the five trainers were on the road again to their next destination. Misty and Green looked back.
"Hey guys, that Squirtle is following us" Misty said
"It's not just Squirtle. Sandshrew is following us too" Green added
The group look back to see the lead Squirtle and Sandshrew who are indeed following them
"Squirtle Squirtle!"
"Shrew Sandshrew!"
"Would you like to come along with us, Squirtle?" Ash asked
"Do you want to come with us too, Sandshrew?" Jake asked
Squirtle took off it's sunglasses to reveal it's eyes. Then Squirtle ran into Ash's arms while Sandshrew ran into Jake's arms
"Welcome to the team, Squirtle" Ash said
"And you too Sandshrew. We're gonna be such good friends" Jake said
"Guess I caught a new Pokémon" Ash declared
"Me too" Jake replied
"Pikachu!" said Pikachu
"Bulbasaur!" said Bulbasaur happily
"Squirtle" Green's Squirtle said. It was happy that the lead Squirtle is now with them for the long haul
Green giggles at this
"Caught? What do you mean caught?" Misty asked
"Oh what's the difference? They're on our side now" Ash retorted
"That's true. It looks like you have all the starter Pokémon in the Kanto region, eh buddy?" Jake said to Ash
"I sure do, Jake. I sure do" Ash said
It truly was a happy day for both Ash and Jake as they caught new friends. But there is just more excitement to come as their journey through Kanto continues.
