Electric Shock Showdown
After two weeks of being lost, the gang have finally made it to their destination: Vermillion City.
"Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray" cheered the group as they celebrated on finally making it to the city
"Finally, we made it!" Jake cheered
"I can't wait to take a bubble bath!" Misty exclaimed
"I have to hit the laundromat!" Brock added
"And I can finally relax. All that walking is making my legs hurt" Green said as she was rubbing her left thigh
"I'm gonna find the Vermillion City Gym right now!" Ash yelled
But before he can charge in, Jake put his hand on Ash's backpack
"Hold on a minute, Ash. We can't forget about our Pokémon" Jake reminded as he points down
They look down to see their Pikachu and Bulbasaur lying on the ground, completely exhausted. Their stomachs were also growling
"Pikachu!" yelled Ash as he picked his Pokémon up with Jake doing the same with Bulbasaur
"I guess all that travelling made them hungry." Jake replied
"Can't say I blame them. We haven't eaten for three days" Green added
"Hey Pikachu! Are you hungry little buddy?" Ash asked his Pikachu until another stomach growls but this time it came from Ash
"Look like our Pokémon are not the only ones that are hungry" Jake teased
Ash chuckles nervously
"In that case, our first stop is the Pokémon Center" Green said
The group nod their heads and they went in the city
Having made their way to the Pokémon Center, Ash, Jake, and Green placed their Pokémon on the counter
"I think they're hungry" Ash said
"We'll fix Pikachu and Bulbasaur up" Nurse Joy said as she was about to treat both Pikachu and Bulbasaur. She then notices the group staring at her.
"I know why your surprised. I look like all the other nurses do I? My first cousin works in Pewter City and my second cousin works in Viridian City. I think I'm the prettiest one. Don't you?" she asked with a giggle
"Yeah" Brock said
'Still a little weird that they all look identical' Jake thought with a sweat drop
Suddenly the Pokémon Center door opens and a boy with a Chansey pushing a stretcher with an injured Rattata on it rushes in.
"Hurry! You'll be okay Rattata! Hurry!"
The group watches them in surprise as they rushed pass them
"That Rattata's in rough shape. I wonder what happened" Brock said with a frown
"Oh, it's the 15th one brought in this month" Nurse Joy sighed
"What do you mean?" Jake asked
The nurse led the five friends to a room where all other trainers were with their injured Pokémon
"Oh my goodness! What happened to all of them?" Green asked in shock
"They all lost to Lt. Surge, the Vermillion Gym Leader" Nurse Joy explained
"The Gym Leader did this? He must be pretty powerful and brutal to do something like that" Jake said as he recalled his gym battle with Brock and Misty. He can tell that his next gym battle is gonna be tough.
"Whoa! He must be a great trainer" Ash said
"So, Ash. You scared already?" Misty asked as she started to taunt him
"No way!" argued Ash
"Well, you talk big but when you see how tough it is to get badges, you turn chicken. Maybe you should just quit now. Besides, the badges you do have, you got out of pity" teased Misty
"A badge is a badge!" Ash retorted, but Misty flicks him on the nose causing him to yell in pain
"Leave him alone, Misty. We never asked you to shake his confidence when we're going to get our next badge here!" Jake yelled as he defended his friend
"Oh really? Why don't you two try to prove how tough you are at the Vermillion gym" Misty challenged
"From the looks of things here, you'll have to be tough to battle with this Lt. Surge" Brock informed
"You think he's... that tough?" asked Ash
"We gave you badges you know. Although Jake was able to earn our badges by defeating both of us in battle. How do you think we'll look if you get crushed by Surge" Misty teased further
"You have nothing to worry about! Except maybe seeing my own incredible strength!" Ash yelled as he was about to throw a punch at Misty, but Nurse Joy came in and grabbed his fist
"Alright, that's enough!" Nurse Joy said as she broke up the fight
"She started it" Ash said
"Remember, this is a hospital" Nurse Joy reminded
Ash and Misty both looked at the other trainers with their Pokémon. They were glaring at them
"She's right you know" Green said
"And besides, you can't hit a girl, Ash" Jake added
Misty stuck her tongue out at Ash which makes him growl
"They say if two people fight, they really care about each other" Nurse Joy said
"Me care about him/Me care about her?!" both Ash and Misty yelled in unison. They both turned away with a huff.
Nurse Joy giggled at this. Both Jake and Green both sweat drop in amusement at their two friends. Just then a sound that Nurse Joy is familiar with goes off.
"That signal means you're Pokémon are recovered" Nurse Joy informed
"That's great" Jake said
The nurse lead the group out of the room to where their Pokémon are. Pikachu and Bulbasaur were eating some apples next to the trainer's other Poké Balls.
"Pikachu!" Ash called
They turn to see their human trainers walking up to them.
"I hope your full because we got to win big at that gym today. Come on let's go win a badge!" Ash said
"Same with you Bulbasaur. Let's get our next badge" Jake added
Pikachu and Bulbasaur both nod their heads. But before they can go, another trainer rushed in with Center's Chansey pushing a stretcher with an injured Pidgey on it.
"Please hurry! Just hold on Pidgey!" he cried
"I guess that's the 16th one" Green replied
"They must've come from that gym" Misty added
"Pi! Pikachu Pikachu!" Pikachu yelled as he refused to take part in the gym battle. He saw how the injured the Pidgey was and doesn't' want to end up like it.
"What!? Don't be a coward!" Ash retorted
"Pika Pikachu!" Pikachu said as he asked him what he thought about him
"Huh? Don't I even care if I end up like that Pidgey in there? Is that it?" Ash asked
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu said as he nods his head
"Yeah. I guess you're right." Ash said with his head low. Pikachu sighed in relief until Ash perks up.
"No problem! You won't end up that way because you'll win!" he said as he tries to drag Pikachu who is holding onto the bench
"Don't be a scaredy cat, Pikachu!" Ash said
"Ash stop. If Pikachu doesn't want to battle, then he doesn't want to battle. Pokémon can make decisions too you know" Jake said
"Huh?" Ash puzzled
Pikachu then unleashes a Thundershock which zaps Ash
"Oh dear" Green said with a sweat drop
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said with a face palm
"The way they fight must mean they care a lot" Misty said
"Like you and Ash?" teased Green
"It's not that like, Green!" Misty said with a blush
Jake turns to Bulbasaur and smiles. Bulbasaur smiles too as they're ready to take on their next challenge
The group then left the Center and made their way to a building that has the word gym on it.
"So this is the Vermillion Gym" Ash said
"It has the word Gym on it." Green added as she looked up at the word
"It's not too late to back out" Misty teased
"Why should I back out when I'm gonna win? Just stick around and watch me!" Ash retorted
"I'll stick around to see your face when you get creamed" Misty shot back
"If you think we're gonna creamed, you'll be disappointed!" Ash yelled back
"Okay you two. Break it up! Let's just go inside and get our next badge" Jake said as he and Bulbasaur went to the building to open the door.
The others follow after him. They looked inside him to see two people staring at them. It was a man and a woman and they all look tough
"Hello. I've come for a Pokémon battle earn a Thunder Badge." Ash said
"Me too. I'm hear to earn the Thunder Badge too" Jake added
"Hey boss! Two more victims for the emergency room!" the man called out
Just then, a buff man walks up.
"Which ones?" he asked
The group was surprised by how big he is
"Whoa! He's huge" Brock said
"Not to mention, buff" Green added
"Is he the Gym Leader you have to beat?" Misty asked
"It looks like it. Are you Lt. Surge?" Jake asked
"That's right! Welcome to the Viridian Gym!" the man known as Lt. Surge yelled
He then turns to the two girls
"Well, my next challenges are cute ones. Don't think I'll go easy on you ladies" he said
"Pardon us, sir. But we're not the challengers" Green pointed out
"Then who?" Lt. Surge asked
"That would be and my friend, Surge" Jake said as he and Ash stepped up causing the Gym Leader to look at them
"Hmm. Oh you two? Okay babies" Lt. Surge taunted as he begins to ruffles their hairs
"Hey! Watch the hair!" Jake yelled as he swats Surge's hand away
"We're no babies! My name is Ash Ketchum!" Ash yelled
"And my name is Jake Serling!" Jake added
"Heh. I call everybody who loses to me baby" Lt. Surge said. He then notices Pikachu and Bulbasaur. "A Pikachu and a Bulbasaur. Hey, look at this. The two babies brought along some baby Pokémon"
They all laugh at them much to the boys' anger
"Quit it!" Ash yelled
"Yeah. Who gave you the right to talk about our Pokémon like that?!" Jake added
Bulbasaur growled at them for insulting it
"Oh, I'll show you why" Lt. Surge said as he takes out a Poké Ball. "Go Poké Ball!"
He throws the Poké Ball and out comes an orange mouse Pokémon with yellow cheeks.
"Rai!"
"It's a Raichu!" Ash yelled
"Pikachu's evolved form" Jake added
Ash takes out his Pokédex and scans it
Ash's Pokédex: Raichu, a Mouse Pokémon of the Electric element. Raichu is the evolved form of Pikachu. It can shock with more than 100,000 volts, enough to render a Dragonite unconscious.
"Wow" Green said as she heard this
Raichu and Pikachu both begin to stare down at each other
"Okay babies. If you wanna quit. Now's your chance" Lt. Surge taunted
"There's no way we're gonna quit now!" Ash declared
"What he said!" Jake added
"Saur!" Bulbasaur growled
"Heh. What could a baby like that do? If you two boys want to become Pokémon Masters, you should make your Pokémon evolve as soon as you catch them." Lt. Surge said as he patted his Raichu's head
"There's more to raising a Pokémon than forcing it to evolve. And I like this Pikachu just the way it is" Ash said
"He's right, Surge. What you said about Pokémon evolution is true, but half of it is also false. It's true that Pokémon evolve to get stronger, but they sometimes can get stronger without evolving. And whether they evolve or not, that's their choice to make" Jake lectured
The man and woman both just laughed
"Wrong babies! Electric Pokémon are only useful once they learned all their Electric attacks. You keep them puny like that, and they're no more than little pets" taunted Lt. Surge
"Really. I guess you must've forced Pikachu to evolve the moment you raised it. You have to be pretty dumb to do that if you didn't bond with it before" Jake stated
Everyone gasped at what Jake said while Lt. Surge gritted his teeth
"What did you say?!" he asked
"All I'm saying is that you have to bond with your Pokémon before you evolve them. Evolve them too soon, and that would put a strain on that bond between you. That also includes the attacks you wanted it to learn" Jake stated
Ash, Bulbasaur, and Green both smiled at what Jake said to Lt. Surge.
"Is that fact?! I like to see you prove that to me, kid. But first I have to deal with that Pikachu!" Lt. Surge said
"Can Pikachu beat Raichu?" Misty asked
"I seriously doubt it. Especially if Raichu knows all the Electric attack" Brock answered
"Okay babies. Did you come to show off your little pets?" taunted Lt. Surge
"We came here to earn a Thunder Badge!" Ash declared
"Pika Pika" Pikachu said aggressively
"Pikachu?" Ash puzzled
Even Jake and Bulbasaur looks at him in surprised as Pikachu sparks the electricity in his cheeks.
"That's unusual. Pikachu really wants to go into battle" Brock said
"He must want to prove that he can beat that Raichu" Green added
"I'm not surprised" Misty said.
"Pikachu, I'm counting on you" Ash said to his Pikachu
"Pikachu" Pikachu responded
"Oh well. I guess you'll learn that playing with the big boys is a shocking experience" Lt. Surge said with a shrug
"Take him down, Ash" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
"I will, buddy. And we'll win" Ash replied
The lights in the gym went on as Ash is facin off against Lt. Surge
"The Pokémon battle will now begin. Only one Pokémon may be used. The gym leader, Lt. Surge has chosen Raichu. The challenger Ash has chosen Pikachu. No time limit. Let the battle begin!" the man announced as the bell rings
"Go Raichu!" Lt. Surge yelled as Raichu goes in
"Go Pikachu!" Ash yelled as his Pikachu goes in the battlefield
Pikachu and Raichu were both facing each other
"Pikachu!, Thundershock!" Ash ordered
Pikachu did just that as he unleashes Thundershock on Raichu. The attack hit Raichu, but it doesn't seem phased by it much to Ash and Pikachu's surprise
"Pi?"
"What's that?" asked Ash
"Raichu, show em a real Thundershock!" Lt. Surge commanded
Raichu unleashed a Thundershock that seems to be more powerful than Pikachu's. The attack hit Pikachu head on. The group gasped as Pikachu was knocked to the ground with swirls in it's eyes
"It's over baby. You didn't think your Pikachu can beat my Raichu, did you?" Lt. Surge asked with a chuckle
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled
"Call it back, Ash!" Brock ordered
"But..." Ash tries to protest
"Raichu's shocks are too powerful. This is a mismatch" Brock said
"He's right, Ash. If Pikachu takes one more attack, then he'll end up just like the other trainers' Pokémon" Jake said in concern
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur replied
"Pikachu, return!" Ash ordered
But Pikachu slowly got up and shook his head as he wants to keep fighting. Much to everyone's surprise
"Pikachu still wants to fight?" Misty asked
"After that attack?" Green asked
Pikachu turns to face Raichu
"Heh heh. It's pretty gutsy for a toy" Lt. Surge said
'Did he just call him a toy?' Jake thought with a glare
Pikachu jumps in at Raichu
"Pikachu!" Ash yelled
"I enjoy playing with toys, but playtime's over. Raichu, Mega Punch!" The Vermillion Gym Leader ordered
Raichu delivered a Mega Punch to Pikachu
"Now a Mega Kick!" Surge ordered
Raichu then delieverd a Mega Kick to Pikachu which sends him skidding on the ground
"Pikachu!" Ash shouted as he saw his Pokémon get beaten mercilessly
"This is brutal" Green said in horror
"I know. Lt. Surge thinks this is all a game to him. He thinks that he can just mercilessly beat his opponents' Pokémon to a pulp like this for his own amusement" Jake replied in disgust
Bulbasaur was both disgusted and worried that Pikachu was taking such abuse from Raichu.
"Now, give us the big finale, Raichu!" Lt. Surge said
Raichu did what he said and unleashes a Thundershock which hits Pikachu. Finishing it off
"Ah, Pikachu!" shouted Ash as he watched his Pokémon get defeated.
"Oh no!" Green shouted
"It's over" Jake sighed
"Saur!" Bulbasaur shouted out
Pikachu landed on the ground defeated
"Pikachu is unable to battle, Raichu wins. The match goes to the Vermillion City Gym Leader, Lt. Surge!" The man announced
"Heh heh heh" Lt. Surge laughed smugly at his 17th victory
"No, Pikachu!" Ash yelled as he cradled his Pikachu in his arms
Jake glared at Lt. Surge
"Ash, you and the others get Pikachu to the Pokémon Center" Jake said
"Got it" Ash said
"But what about you?" Misty asked
"I'm going to kick Lt. Surge's butt" Jake replied
"Bulbasaur" growled Bulbasaur
"Okay. Good luck" Brock said
Ash, Misty, and Brock rushed out with Pikachu in Ash's arms. Only Green stayed
"You're not going with them, Green?" asked Jake
"No. I'm staying here to support you, Jake" Green said
"Okay then" Jake said
"That was too easy. That Pikachu may have the guts, but it's still just a baby" Lt. Surge said
"Alright, Surge. You had your little fun, but now you're going down!" Jake yelled
"Oh really? That's some big talk coming from a baby like you. What makes you think you can take me down when your friend cannot?" Lt. Surge asked
"Cause as I said, Pokémon can get stronger with or without evolution. And I'm going to prove that to you. Right here and now!" Jake declared
"Well, I say bring it on! But you're gonna suffer the same fate as your friend back there" Lt. Surge said arrogantly
"I guess we'll see about that. Won't we, Surge?" Jake asked
"Saur!" Bulbasaur said
Will Jake defeat Lt. Surge or will he suffer defeat like Ash?
