The Ghost of Maiden's Peak
Previously on Pokémon: Adventures in Kanto, the gang were caught in the middle of a Tentacool invasion. While they fought off the Tentacoold, Misty was able to convince the leader, the giant Tentacruel to call off the invasion. More surprises came when Jake and Green caught two Tentacools when they offered to join them. The gang then get on a ferry to head out to their next destination.
As the ferry was sailing through the water, Misty spot something from afar
"Hey! Look over there!" she yelled
"Pika" Pikachu
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur replied
"Great! That must be Maiden's Peak, that's where we get off. We'll be landing soon!" Ash said
"Sure can't wait" Jake replied
"It wouldn't matter to me if I never saw land again. I just wasted another summer." Brock sighed sadly
"What do you mean, Brock?" Green asked
"Yeah. We had a whole summer of adventures." Ash added
"For you, summer means adventures and whatever that second thing you look forward to is. To kids, summer means playing on the beach, splashing around and having fun, but for me.. summer means, bathing suits and girls to wear them! Now bikini season's over and I'll have to wait another year to meet a girl!" Brock yelled as he fell to his knees
"Why am I not surprised" Jake said with a face palm
"Talk about overdramatic" Green added with a sweat drop
Later, the ferry docked on land
"Maiden's Peak welcomes the passengers arriving from Porta Vista! We invite you all to attend our annual Summer's End Festival, now in progress!" an announcer said
The gang had just gotten off the boat as they heard the announcement
"Cool! A festival" Ash yelled
"It looks like fun! Let's check it out!" Misty added
"Yeah. I like to see what they have to offer" Jake said with a smile
"Me too" replied Green
"I'll ride the Ferris wheel all alone." Brock muttered sadly. He then notice something in the distance. "Whoa! Who's that?"
Brock looks to see a beautiful woman with purple hair and a red flower in it. Pikachu and Bulbasaur also looked over to spot the woman.
"Whoa! What a knockout!" Brock said completely lovestruck
Just as he said that, Brock gets trampled on the passengers leaving the ship.
"That's gonna leave a mark" Jake said with a wince
Bulbasaur and Pikachu both gets a look at the girl
"Pi-ka"
"Saur?"
The girl then turns into a purple gas like creature and disappears. Bulbsaur was shocked by what it saw and uses it's vines to rub it's eyes. Brock then recovers from being trampled
"Hey. She's gone!" he said
"Pikachu" Pikachu said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
"Cheer up, Brock! We're at a festival!" Ash said
"Yeah. Forget about girls for now and let's enjoy ourselves" Jake added
"Let's have some fun." Misty added as the gang grab Brock and they head off
As the gang were walking through the festival, Bulbasaur couldn't help but think about what it just saw back there.
At the festival, a parade was going on and the gang were enjoying themselves there. They were having some candy while Brock was following after them still thinking about the girl he had seen.
"She was the most beautiful girl I ever seen." he muttered
His friends turn to Brock as he said this.
'Poor Brock' thought Jake
"Hey, you there!" an elderly voice said
Brock turns around happily assuming that it's the young girl he saw
"Are you the...?"
But Brock ends up seeing an elderly woman in front of him. This caused him to freak out and fall on the ground
"You're not the beautiful.." he began
"Who's not beautiful?" asked the old woman as she takes out a magnifying glass and examines Brock. "Beware, not of an old beauty like me, but a beautiful young woman. Or you'll meet a cruel fate."
"That girl on the rock! I have to meet her!" Brock said
"I must be the beautiful girl she's talking about. But I'd never hurt Brock." Misty said
"Or she might be talking about me" Green added
"I was talking about an elegant young woman, not some scrawny little blabbermouths like you two!" the old woman snapped
"What!?" Green said in offense
"Scrawny!?" Misty snapped in offense
"Real scrawny!" Ash teased
This caused Misty and Green to hit him in the head
'Poor choice of words, buddy' thought Jake with a face palm
"That's it! I don't have to stand around here and be insulted!" Misty yelled
"Me neither! Let's go!" Green cried
Misty grabs Ash and Brock and storms away while Green grabs Jake by the arm follows after Misty. Jake couldn't help but blush as Green was doing this, but said nothing.
"The beautiful woman, a cruel fate. The cruelest fate, would be never to see her again." Brock said as he was dragged
The gang then find themselves at the fabled Maiden's Peak.
"Welcome! To celebrate the Summer's End Festival, we will now display the Shrine of the Maiden's greatest treasure! For two-thousand years, this painting has hung within the Shrine of the Maiden. Once each year, it is removed from the shrine and displayed to the public during this festival. As I unveil the painting, please gaze with reverence." an announcer said as he uncovers a painting of a woman. The same woman that Brock saw when he and the gang got off the boat. The friends were amazed by it.
"Wow" Green said
"But, it can't be!" Brock said as he was shocked by the painting
The more he looked at it, the more lovestruck he became
"She's so incredibly beautiful!" Brock said
"Oh boy" Jake said with a sweat drop
"She's the girl of my dreams. Don't wake me up" James said as he was also lovestruck by the woman in the painting.
But just as they got closer, the man stopped them
"Stay back! The woman in this painting perished over two-thousand years ago." the man explained
"Two-thousand years?" Brock asked
"She was in love with a brave and handsome young man, but he left her and sailed away to fight in a war." narrated the man
As the man was narrating, we see some men sailing off to sea while the same maiden was watching them sail away on the ledge of a mountain
"I'll wait for you forever! Come back to me! Farewell!" called out the maiden
"And she did wait for a very long time, hoping to see his ship on the horizon. But her true love never returned to that place again. Still, she waited and waited, never moving from that spot. Until finally, her body was turned into stone, just like the cliff upon which she stood. To this day, she waits for her love to return." the man said as he finished his tale
'This is truly a sad story. Poor girl' thought Jake as some tears appeared in his eyes
"Jake, are you crying?" Green asked as she notice the tears
"Huh? Oh no, Green. I think I have something in my eyes" Jake replied as he begins to wipe the tears off his eyes.
"Just tell me, where's this rock?" asked Brock
"Maiden's Rock is not far from this shrine." the man answered
The gang then find themselves watching the Maiden's rock
"So that's Maiden Rock! It's the most beautiful rock I've ever seen!" Brock said
"But do you think what the man said about the girl turning into stone is true?" asked Green
"Who can say?" Jake replied with a shrug
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur said in disbelief
"If she were my girlfriend, I'd make sure she was never out of my sight!" Brock claimed
'Of course you would say that, lover boy' thought Jake with a sweat drop
That night, the gang was still at Maiden's rock
"We've been standing here looking at that rock for hours and we're all getting tired" Green said with a yawn
"Though I can't say the same for Brock. He's still infatuated by that statue" Jake added in annoyance
"Bulba bulba" Bulbasaur said with a frown
"No matter how long you wait, a rock is a rock, Brock." Ash said to the former Pewter Gym Leader
"Yeah, let's go back to the festival. This is boring!" Misty added
"Why don't you all go back. I wanna stay here a little bit longer." Brock said
"Are you sure you want to do that, Brock?" Green asked in worry
Brock nods his head in response
"You remember where we're staying tonight, right?" Ash asked
"The Pokémon Center near the port, I'll make it back by curfew." Brock said
Ash and Jake both picked up their bags. They look at Brock with worry
"Are you really sure about this?" Jake asked Brock
"Don't worry about me. I'll be okay." Brock assured
"Okay then. When you're done looking, you know where to find us" Jake replied
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
The gang walked away while Brock continues to look at the statue. Much later, the gang were at the Pokémon Center and a cuckoo clock struck 11 and cuckoo Pidgey came out.
"11 o'clock! Curfew time! Curfew time!" it said as it goes back in the clock
"I'm really getting worried" Misty said as she looked to the door. "Brock still isn't back yet"
"He said he'll make it back by curfew. Doesn't he know what time it is?" Jake added
"Saur" Bulbasaur said in worry
"Maybe leaving him out there was a mistake" Green said with worry
"Huh?" Ash said he notice the gate to the Center door is starting to close. "Wait! I'll go out and look for him!"
Before he can do so, Nurse Joy stopped him
"Hold it! Don't you realize it's your bedtime?" Nurse Joy asked
"Yes, but.." Ash started but Nurse Joy cuts him off
"Staying up late is bad for your skin and it makes you irritable and it ruins your appetite! I won't allow it! Now get to bed this instant!" Nurse Joy commanded as the gate completely locks down
"Don't worry, Ash. We'll look for Brock in the morning" Jake assured
Meanwhile, Brock was still staring out at the statue
"Two-thousand years." he muttered
Brock then senses someone behind him. He turn around to see a ghost of a woman
"I've been waiting for you, for such a long time." she said
The next morning, the gang went out of the Pokémon Center to search for Brock.
"Brock!" Ash called
"Brock, where are you?!" Misty called
"Are you there?!" Jake called
"Pikachu!" Pikachu called
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur called
"If you can hear us, Brock! Call out to us!" Green said
"Hey Brock!" Ash called
They walked near a shrine until they came face to face with Team Rocket
"Huh?"
"Oh" Jessie said
"You again!" Ash yelled
"Fancy meeting you crooks here" Jake added with a glare
"Saur!" Bulbasaur said with a glare
"Yuck!" Jessie yelled
"Double yuck!" Ash yelled
"What he said!" Jake added
"I finally found you! Oh, wait a minute! None of you are the one I'm looking for!" Jessie said
"What are you talking about?" Jake asked
"Are you looking for somebody, too?" Ash also asked
Jessie clears her throat and begins to recite the Team Rocket motto
"Prepare for trouble and make it double!" Jessie recited as she does James' line. "Doing this by myself is a real drag."
Jake and Green blink their eyes at this
"To protect the world from devastation, to unite all peoples within our nation. To denounce the evils of truth and love.." Jessie recited
But just as she said that, James' muffled voice is heard
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
Jessie was surprised
"Jessie?"
"James"
Everybody looks around to find where it is coming from
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!" Jessie called out
"Surrender now or prepare to fight!"
Everybody turn to see James coming out of the shrine and hits the ground
"He looks awful!" Jessie said
"Worse than usual" Meowth added
Brock then fell out of the shrine
"Looks like we found Brock" Green said
"What happened?" Ash asked
"It would seem that James and Brock have both lost their minds" Jake replied
"Pull yourself together!" Ash said as he pulls Brock up
"Snap out of it!" Green added
James grabs Jessie's leg, causing her to shake him
"What do you think you're doing?" she yelled
Just then, the old woman approaches them
"So, everything turned out just as I predicted." she said
"Huh?" everyone said as they saw her
"It's the old woman" Ash said
"The same one that warned Brock to 'beware the beautiful young woman'" Jake added
"Obviously, these two have both seen the ghost of the Maiden." the old woman said
"Ghost of the Maiden?" everyone asked
Both James and Brock begin both begin to babble on about how they love the maiden and then starts to hug each other. Jake and Green both sweat drop at this
"They're possessed!" Ash yelled. "Pikachu!"
Pikachu zapped Brock and James with an electric attack to snap them out of it. Brock then wakes up
"Uh, who am I? I am Brock." he said
"Brock's back" Ash said
"Yep. He's back to normal" Green added
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said in relief
James then wakes up
"I'm James from Team Rocket" he said as he jumps and pretend that he is flying
"He's back" Jessie said
"But not to normal" added Meowth
Inside the shrine, the gang and Team Rocket were listening to the old woman
"All men who pass this way fall under her spell. It's always the same story over and over, we find them here acting like zombies with the life sucked out of them, babbling like idiots. It's the work of that maiden's ghost! Still waiting for her young soldier to return! It's just as I warned you." the old woman explained
"That's just like what happened to Brock and James" Green said
"So what? Who cares, as long as I can be with her." Brock said
Ash begins to wave his hands at Brock's face
"Oh man. We're losing him" Jake said with worry
"He isn't cured" Ash added
"I'm scared! You got to do something!" James added
"As much as I don't want to agree with someone from Team Rocket, James has a point. What can we do against this spirit?" Jake asked
"There's only one thing we can do." The old woman said
Everyone looks at her in confusion
"And what would that be?" Green asked
"We have stickers. These are anti-ghost stickers." the old woman said as she places one on both Brock and James
"However.." the old woman began
"What's the catch?" Ash asked
"I can't just give these stickers away for free." the old woman said as she opens up a cash register
This caused Ash to fall over in disbelief
"Good grief" Jake said with a facepalm
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it repeated it's trainer's gesture
Outside, Ash, Misty, Jake and Green then begins to place stickers all over the shrine
"Oh well, if it's the only thing that'll help." Ash said
"We'll stick stickers all over the place!" Misty added
"These stickers better be worth the money we spent" Jake said
"And let's just hope they work" Green added
Inside, Pikachu and Bulbasaur are putting stickers all over Brock while Jessie and Meowth are putting stickers on James
"This'll really work, right?" James asked
"Shut your mouth!" Jessie snapped as she puts a sticker over James' mouth
That night, the gang and Team Rocket were hiding behind the corner to see if the stickers will work
"Will she come?" Jessie asked
"Oh, she'll come!" Meowth said
"This better work" Ash said
"Or else we'll lose Brock forever" Jake added
"Bulbsaur" Bulbasaur said
"Let's just hope" Misty said
Green nods her head in agreement. Then, a massive gust of wind blew at the shrine, blowing off all the stickers.
"She's here!" the old woman yelled
Then doors swung open and the wind blows in. Everyone screams as they felt the wind. It not only extinguished the flames, but it also blew all the stickers off Brock and James.
"It's you!" Brock said as he saw the ghost of the maiden
"I've been waiting for you." the ghost said
"Yes, and I've been waiting, too." Brock said
"I'm scared! Really really scared!" cried James
"I wanted to meet you." the maiden's ghost said
"And I you." Brock replied
Suddenly, the ghost use it's power to levitate Brock and James towards her. Brock was floating out of the shrine
"Brock!" Ash yelled
"Hold on! We're coming!" Jake said as he and the gang raced after him
The ghost had just levitated Brock towards the statue of the Maiden
"Quick guys, grab him!" Green yelled
Ash, Misty, Jake, Green, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur all grabbed Brock by the legs
"Hey! Let me go!" Brock yelled
"Sorry buddy, but this is for your own good" Jake said as they pull Brock back
"I don't want to go!" James cried as he was being lifted towards the ghost
Then, a fire blast goes towards the the ghost. She expands herself to avoid it while James fell down. The group turns to see that Jessie was the one who shot at the ghost while holding a bazooka
"Hey, girl! You can't take him! You haven't got a ghost of a chance!" she shouted
'Where did she get that?' thought Jake in confusion
The gang then heard another sound as James begins to climb back up the ledge. He scares Misty as he got back up
"You really do care!" James shouted with glee
"It's not cause of you. Girls like her disgust me. Always waiting around for her man as if her was her faithful pet. She can't stand the thought of losing him. She cries. But I'd say 'see ya later!' There are plenty more fish in the sea." Jessie claimed as she puts away the bazooka
"I could sure go for some fish." Meowth said
"I've been waiting! You cannot interfere!" the Maiden's ghost shouted
"I don't like the sound of that" Jake gulped
"Me neither" Green added in fright
The ghost then used it's powers to call out evil spirits which scares the group.
"What are they?!" shrieked Green
"Not any Pokémon I know." Ash said as he attempts to scan them with his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: No Pokémon entry found
"They're not Pokémon!?" Ash asked
The spirits then flew at the gang causing everyone to scream in fright. Jake and Green were hugging each other. Because of the situation they are in, they didn't become shy at hugging each other. Ash's Pokédex then begins to beep
Ash's Pokédex: Still searching
Puzzled, Ash's moves his Pokédex around until he points it right at the ghost
Ash's Pokédex: Pokédex entry found: Gastly, a Ghost Pokémon. It is usually invisible. Its specialty is Hypnosis.
"So the Maiden's ghost is a Gastly?" Jake asked
"You're really a Pokémon?" Ash asked the ghost
"So you finally figured it out. Sometimes I'm the ghost of the two-thousand year old maiden.." the ghost said as she turns into the old woman. "And sometimes I'm the mysterious old woman! But, no matter what the disguise, I'll always be.."
The ghost then made all the spirits vanish and reveal it's true form as a Gastly
"Awfully Gastly" it said
"Oh my goodness! It really is a Gastly. And it talks!" Green said in surprise
"And I thought Meowth was the only Pokémon that can talk" Jake added
"Hey! I heard that!" Meowth snapped
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said in shock as it saw Gastly earlier when they got off the boat to Maiden's Peak
"Well, Gastly, time for a battle! Pikachu!" Ash yelled as Pikachu faces Gastly
"My hypnotic powers can work on other Pokémon, too. Including little rodents!" Gastly said
"Pika" Pikachu said
"Stop a rodent with a mousetrap" Gastly said as it transforms into a mousetrap which scares Pikachu off
"Mousetraps won't hurt Meowth!" Meowth said as he charges at Gastly
"So, Meowth, you want to play games with me? Here's a cat toy I think you'll enjoy!" Gastly said as it made a ball for Meowth to play with which distracts him
"Go, Ekans!" Jessie yelled as she lets Ekans out to battle
Ekans charges at Gastly
"A snake's natural enemy is a mongoose!" Gastly said as it transforms into a mongoose just as Ekans wrapped it's coils around it. "Dinner time"
Ekans was so scared that it uncoils and flees
"Your turn" Jessie said as she tags James
"Um. Uh, Koffing! Poison Gas Attack." James said as he lets Koffing out
Koffing unleashes Poison Gas from it's body, only to get stomped on by Gastly as a mongoose again while wearing a gas mask.
"Smoking is prohibited!" Gastly stated
"I'll get you! Vaporeon, go!" Jake said as he lets Vaporeon out
"Vaporeon!"
"For Vaporeon, it's time to shock things up a bit!" Gastly said as he turns into a thundercloud that shoots massive lightning. It zaps Vaporeon and knocking her out in the process.
"No Vaporeon!" Jake yelled
"Bellsprout! Avenge Vaporeon!" Green yelled as she lets out Bellsprout
"Bellsprout!"
"To defeat a Grass type, I shall counter with fire" Gastly said as it transforms into a blowtorch which blew fire at Bellsprout. Bellsprout was so terrified that it ran away and hid behind Green
"Oh Bellsprout" she said with worry
"My turn now! Charmander, I choose you!" Ash yelled as he let's out Charmander
"Char char!"
"Well now..." Gastly said as it turns into a fire extinguisher. "Here's something for you. Squirt"
The fire extinguisher squirts water at Charmander causing it to run away in terror. Gastly then turns back to normal
"Now who shall I defeat?" it asked
" Squirtle, Bulbasaur! Attack together!" Ash yelled as he let's them out to face Gastly
"Bulba"
"Squirtle"
"Ha! What a nuisance! This is too easy." Gastly said as it forms a giant Venusaur and Blastoise which startles Ash's Squirtle and Bulbasaur. " Here are Bulbasaur's and Squirtle's evolved forms, Venasaur and Blastoise. And just for fun, I'll combine them into one super Pokémon! To make Venustoise!"
As Gastly said that, the two final evolved forms of Squirtle and Bulbasaur merged into one.
"Try that on for size!"
Ash's Squirtle and Bulbasaur were so scared of it, that they fled the battle. Even Jake's Bulbasaur was a little startled by the illusion as it hid behind Jake
"We lose. It's just too strong!" Ash moaned
"Yeah, Gastly has counters for all of our Pokémon" Jake added
"What are we going to do?" asked Green
"Then how about this?" Misty asked as she held out a cross
"What's that?" Gastly asked
"It's a cross! I've also got garlic, a stake, and a hammer!" Misty said as she took out all of those things
Everyone looks at her in confusion
'Where did she get all of that?' thought Green
"What do I look like? A vampire or something?" Gastly asked in annoyance
It then heard a church bell ringing much to it's horror
"Huh? What's happening?" Ash asked
"I may not be a vampire, but I hate sunlight! It's time for me to go until the next festival!" Gastly said as it slowly begins to fade away. "Don't forget the ghost of the Maiden! She and the old lady will return next year, too!"
And with that, Gastly vanished
"That was ghastly" Misty remarked
"You can say that again" Green replied
"Bellsprout!" Bellsprout said
"Hey, look! The sun!" Meowth said
The gang looks on to see the sun rising
"Phew. After what has happened today, I think I've had enough of spirits for one night" Jake said
"Me too" Green added
"Me three" Ash replied
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur replied
The next night, everyone along with the gang were setting boats with lanterns on them in the water.
"At the end of every summer, the visitors send out these tiny boats. Each one with a candle to help light the way for any wandering spirits who can't find their way back home." explained Officer Jenny
'I sure hope this will help the Maiden find her true love. If she really does exist' thought Jake as she and Green sets some lantern boats into the water.
As the boats sailed through the water, Brock looks at the Maiden's statue one last time.
"If only you were two-thousand years younger. Maybe next year" Brock said with a sigh
Back at the festival, the gang and Team Rocket were enjoying the last day of summer in the festival
"I think I'm doing a bang-up job!" James said as he was banging on drums
"Let's drum up some fun!" Jessie added while banging on drums as well
Meowth was playing a flute
Nearby, Ash and Jake were wearing kimonos and sitting down as they looked through Ash's Pokédex. Ash was wearing a teal kimono while Jake was wearing a dark green kimono
"A ghost Pokémon. Gastly." Ash said
"Pikachu" Pikachu said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
"You know, Ash. I've been thinking. Despite knowing that a Gastly was responsible for the haunting last night, do you think there really is such a thing as a ghost of Maiden's Peak?" Jake asked
"I don't know how to answer that Jake. But we all know the truth, a Ghost Pokémon was keeping the legend alive." Ash said
"I guess you're right, buddy. Maybe there is no such thing as a ghost of Maiden's Peak after all" Jake said with a sigh
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
"Sorry we're late!" Misty said as she and Green runs up to them
The boys look to see Misty in a pink kimono while Green was in light green kimono. Ash couldn't help but stare at Misty's appearance whie Jake couldn't help but blush at the sight of Green in her kimono
"Wow Green. You look really cute in that kimono" Jake said
"Thanks, Jake." Green giggled
"Come on! Let's dance!" Misty said. "You too Pikachu"
Misty grabs Ash's hand and leads him into the crowd with Pikachu following behind.
"So, shall we?" Green asked as she held out her hand to Jake
"Sure thing, Green" Jake replied as he grabs her hand. "Let's go Bulbasaur"
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur replied
They then walk into the crowd. And so, the gang begins to close off the summer with a dance that night.
