Bye Bye Butterfree
We now join our heroes as they are now on the road again to Saffron City. They walked over to a cliff where they looked down to see some big rocks in the water.
"Wow! Look at those rocks!" Ash said
"Pi" Pikachu said
"Saur" Bulbasaur added
They see some waves crash on the rocks.
"That's a long drop!" Ash said
"You said it" Jake added
"Fall from here and the ball game's over!" Misty said
"I agree" Green added
Brock looks at his map and nods his head
"The map says that this ridge leads right to Saffron City." the former Pewter Gym Leader said
"And to our next challenge at the Saffron Gym." Ash said
"Well then, let's get to it" Jake said
"Yeah!" Ash said until he notices something in the distance. "What are those?"
"They look like Butterfree!" Misty said
"What are they all doing out here?" Green asked
"Well, Green. The Butterfree are celebrating their season of love." Brock explained
"Season of love?" asked Jake
"Yeah. The season of love is when Butterfree lay their eggs, the Butterfree find mates and then lay their eggs across the sea." Brock continued
"Across the sea?" Ash asked
"That's right." Brock replied
"How cute!" Misty said
"And romantic" added Green
"You mean, my Butterfree'd go, too?" Ash asked
"If you don't let it cross the sea, it will never have babies." Brock told him
"Babies?" Ash asked as he took Poké Ball containing his Butterfree
"That's what he said" Jake replied
The gang were now in two hot air balloons. Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu were in one while Jake, Green, and Bulbasaur were in another one.
"I'm surprised that there was a hot air balloon for rent out here." Misty said
"Not to mention another one available for us" Green said
"Yeah. If we all try to get in one hot air balloon, then that would cause some problems with the weight" Jake added
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
"We'll probably see lots of other balloons once we get up into the air." Brock said
"Prepare for take off" Jake said
"Hold on guys" Brock said
They both grab the lever on their respective hot air balloons and they both lift off the ground to gain altitude. The balloons then float next to each other as the gang see the world from above.
"What a view" Ash said in amazement
"You said it. I can see the whole ocean from here" Jake added
"Me too. We can actually travel around the world in this balloon" Green replied
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur said as it looked at the view as well
"Chu chu!" Pikachu said as he spot something
The group turn to see a bunch of Butterfrees flying in the air
"Look there they are!" Misty said
"Let's get a closer look" Jake added
"You read my mind, Jake. Let's go!" Brock said
Brock and Jake pull the lever on their hot air balloons to get closer. As they did that, they witnessed a bunch of Butterfrees mating with each other.
"Wow! All the Butterfrees are pairing off into the couples" Misty said
"It's so romantic!" Green said dreamily
Jake and Bulbasaur nod their heads
"Okay, Ash" Brock said
"Oh right" Ash replied as he expands Butterfree's Poké Ball. "Butterfree, go!"
Ash throws his Poké Ball and Butterfree comes out and flew off into the sky
"Go out there and find your mate!" called Ash
"Good luck, Butterfree!" added Misty
"What they said!" yelled Jake
Ash's Butterfree flew through the air finding the perfect mate, but none of the other Butterfrees seem to catch his eye. Everyone was confused
"I don't get it. Why isn't Butterfree interested in the others?" asked Green
"Maybe none of those Butterfree is it's type." Brock said
"What do you mean by 'it's type', Brock? The Butterfree all look the same to me." Misty said in confusion
"Some of them must fly better than others, or maybe they have slightly different patterns, I guess." Brock replied
Just then the gang heard Poké Balls opening
"Over there!" Jake said as he points behind them
The gang turn around to see more hot air balloons coming out in the sky
"Look at all the balloons!" Misty said
They watched as the trainers in the balloons were letting out their Butterfrees
"And look, the trainers on the balloon must be Butterfree trainers" Green said
"That's right, Green. They come at this time every year to release their Butterfree" Brock explained
Then, the gang spots a female trainer in one hot air balloon
"You just go find yourself a nice mate, Butterfree. Go!" she said as she let's out her Butterfree
Seeing her caused Brock to turned red as he was starting to become entranced by the girl's look. His friends took notice
"Oh no, not this again." Misty said
"Don't tell me, is Brock..." Green asked
"Yep. He's fallen in love again" Jake replied
"Saur" Bulbasaur said in annoyance
Ash's Butterfree then came back
"Butterfree" Ash said
"Any luck?" Jake asked
Butterfree responds by shaking his head. Brock then runs up in the balloon
"Listen up, Butterfree! See that Butterfree that girl just released? Ha!" Brock yelled as he points to a Butterfree in the swarm. "That one! That one right there, pick that one!"
"Free?" Ash's Butterfree said in confusion
"Don't you get it? If two Butterfree fall in love, their trainers can meet, and they can fall in love, too!" Brock yelled
Annoyed, Misty hits Brock right in the head
"Don't butt in to Pokémon love affairs!" she shouted
"And besides, Butterfree is Ash's Pokémon, not yours!" Jake scolded
"But Misty, Jake. If Butterfree doesn't find a mate, it won't ever have babies." Ash said
Butterfree nods his head at this
"Go ahead, then." Misty encouraged
Butterfree then flew off to find a mate again
"Go get 'em, Butterfree! The perfect mate for you has gotta be out there somewhere!" Misty said
"Just take your time" Jake added
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
Ash's Butterfree flew through the swarm until he spots a pink Butterfree. Seeing the pink Butterfree caused Ash's Butterfree to become head over heels in love. He then flew right to the pink Butterfree
"It looks like Butterfree really found someone it likes!" Misty said
"Yeah, love at first sight with that pink one." Brock said
"That pink Butterfree is so beautiful" Green replied
"Oh yeah" Jake added
Then the gang witnessed Ash's Butterfree dancing at the Pink Butterfree
"Butterfree's acting kinda weird." Ash said as he noticed this
"That's Butterfree's courtship dance." Brock replied
"What's a courtship dance?" Jake asked
"It's Butterfree's way of saying 'I wanna be your Butterfree.' Brock explained
"Aw, that's so romantic." Misty said
"I agree" Green added
"If it's successful, the other Butterfree does a dance, too." Brock finished explaining
"It's doing something" Misty said
As Ash's Butterfree continues to dance, the pink Butterfree turns away uninterested and flew up. Ash's Butterfree follows after her
"What's going on?" Ash asked
As Ash's Butterfree still continues to try to impress the pink Butterfree, she slapped him right in the face with her wing, making him tear up. Everyone was shocked as they saw this
"Oh my!" said Green as she covered her mouth
"That has got to sting!" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said in utter shock
As the pink Butterfree flew away, Ash's Butterfree sadly watches
"Butterfree got shot down" Brock said in disappointment
"What?! That's so mean! That isn't fair!" Misty yelled
Ash's Butterfree was so heartbroken that he flew down
"Guys! Butterfree is flying down!" Jake said as he points down
"Butterfree, where are you going!?" Ash asked "Butterfree"
Butterfree continues to fly down towards the trees
"Shot down in its prime..." Brock said solemnly
"Come on. We got to go after him" Jake said
The gang landed their hot air balloons on the ground. They then begin to search for Butterfree
"Butterfree! Hey, Butterfree!" Ash called
"Butterfree!" Misty called
"Pikachu!" Pikachu called
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur called
"Come out come out wherever you are!" Jake called
"Where are you Butterfree!?" Green called
The gang continue to search the forest while calling Butterfree's name.
"Guys, look!" Green said as she points forward
The gang looks to see Butterfree's wings from behind a tree
"It's Butterfree!" Ash said
The gang then race behind the tree to see Butterfree sulking
"Hey, there, Butterfree. Are you okay?" Ash asked
Butterfree hung his head sadly
"Hey, how come you look so sad, buddy?" Ash asked
"It was rejected by someone it loved. That's a terrible shock. Believe me, it's a terrible feeling." Brock said
"Poor Butterfree" Green said
"I could write a book about the secrets of love and heartache!" Brock claimed
"I guess that book would be your autobiography?" Misty asked teasingly
This caused Brock to shrug sadly
"She's got you there, Brock" Jake said
Pikachu and Bulbasaur walked up to Butterfree. Butterfree told them that the pink Butterfree rejected him. Both Pikachu and Bulbasaur both said that he shouldn't give up and to keep trying. But Butterfree wasn't sure. Ash then took out his Pokédex
"Do you think maybe Dexter might be able to tell us how Butterfree can get that other Butterfree to be its mate?" he asked
"Dexter's never been in love." Misty replied
"I just don't understand it. My Butterfree's great. Why would any other Butterfree reject it?" Ash asked
"Yeah. You raise that Butterfree ever since it was a Caterpie, why wouldn't any Butterfree like it? We need to help him out" Jake added
Ash nods his head and looks at Butterfree
"Butterfree, maybe you just have to show off your strength and let the others see how great you are. Show how powerful your Tackle is, or how you can use Stun Spore!" Ash said
"That's right, Butterfree! You've got to be assertive!" Misty added
Butterfree looks up to her
" Love is all about attacking your opponent first! Get in a quick punch and surprise them, then, while they're still weak, take the lead and you'll beat 'em, hands down! Trust me, I know! That's the best way to win!" Misty explained
"You mean it?" Brock asked in surprise
"Sure do! That's love!" Misty remarked
"Ahhh! I wish I had known that sooner!" Brock yelled as he rubbed his head
"They're right, Butterfree. Even if that pink Butterfree rejected you, you can't give up. You got to show her that you are the one for her!" Jake encouraged
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur also encouraged
"Yeah, Butterfree. You got to keep going no matter what" Green added
"Let's give it another try!" Ash said
"Hold it!" Brock said
"Huh?" Ash puzzled
"What is it, Brock?" asked Green
"A new look might help!" Brock said as he tied a scarf around Butterfree's neck
"Free" Butterfree said as he liked his new look
Everyone looks at him happily
"Wow, he looks so handsome" Green said
"Looking good, Butterfree" Jake added
"Yeah, that looks great!" Misty said
"Okay guys. Let's back up there." Jake said
"Right!" his friend said
The gang got back in their hot air balloons and went into the air while Ash's Butterfree flew off to search for his soon to be mate. Ash was looking through some binoculars to find the pink Butterfree
"You see her, Ash?" Jake asked
"Not yet" Ash replied
"There's like a million Butterfrees out here. It'll be hard to find the pink Butterfree here" Green asked
"Don't worry, Green. I'm sure she will turn up" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
"We gotta find it! Where did that pink Butterfree go?" Ash asked as he still looked through his binoculars
"This is important to you, isn't it?" Misty asked
"I raised that Butterfree myself, and I'll show them all how good it is!" Ash vowed
"It looks like the trainer is just as passionate as the Butterfree." Misty said
Ash continues to look through his binoculars until he finally spots the pink Butterfree
"Alright! There it is! Now, Butterfree. This time just have confidence in yourself! Go!" Ash yelled
"Pika!" Pikachu said
Ash's Butterfree then charges ahead towards the pink Butterfree
"Good luck" Green said
Ash's Butterfree then flew up to the pink Butterfree
"Butterfree! Show it your Whirlwind attack!" Ash ordered
Butterfree did as his trainer commanded, but the pink Butterfree wasn't impressed
"Now use your Tackle! That should do the trick!" Ash said
Butterfree does a series of tackle attacks, but the pink Butterfree was still not impressed much to Ash's Butterfree's sadness
"Shot down again" Ash said sadly
"That pink Butterfree is not that easy to impressed" Jake stated
"Saur saur saur" Butterfree said as it shook it's head
Suddenly, a helicopter came up. But this is not just any helicopter, this one has a R on it. The gang took notice of it
"What's that?!" Ash asked
"Two words, Ash" Jake said
He and Green looked at each other
"Team Rocket!" they said simultaneously
The Team Rocket then said their motto through a speaker
"Prepare for trouble!"
"Make it double!"
" To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
"Jessie"
"James"
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight!"
" Meowth! That's right!"
They then lower a colored Poké Ball from the helicopter
"Look at all the Butterfree!" laughed Jessie
" All ours for the taking." James added
The Poké Ball then turns into a giant net
"Let's do some 'net-working'!" Meowth said with a laugh
The Team Rocket trio then flew through the air while catching all the Butterfrees at the same time
"Look! They're stealing the Butterfree!" Misty yelled
"It's those little twerps again. No matter where we go, these kids are always in our way.
"But this time, they can't do a thing to stop us!" Jessie sneered as Meowth laughed as they continue to steal the Butterfree
"Hey! Knock it off!" Ash yelled
"Cut it out!" Jake yelled
"Stop, or you're gonna disrupt their whole egg-laying season!" Brock called out
"Leave them alone!" Green also yelled
"Can't you see these Butterfree are in love?!" Misty added
"We're in love, too, little girl. With all the pretty little Pokémon!" Jessie laughed
"Those Butterfree are free no more." James said
"We've gotta stop them!" Ash growled
"Ditto!" Jake said with a glare
As the Team Rocket trio continue to steal more of the Butterfrees, the gang angrily ordered Team Rocket to stop stealing all the Butterfrees.
"We're having quite a spree!" Jessie laughed
"We're swiping all the Butterfree!" Meowth said
"There's never been a happier me." James added
"We can't let them get away with this! Let's go!" Jake said as he pull the lever on his hot air balloon to chase the helicopter
"Right behind you!" Brock said as he follows after
"Can't we speed this thing up and catch em?" Ash asked
"I'm trying, Ash, but their chopper's a lot faster." Brock said
Meanwhile, Ash's Butterfree was flying alongside the helicopter
"Nothing but net!" James said with a laugh that is triumphant
And the trio caught the rest of the Butterfree along with the pink one. Ash's Butterfree flew after the net. After promising the pink Butterfree that he will rescue them, Ash's Butterfree flew up to the trio's helicopter and begins to attack it.
"Yeah! That's it, Butterfree! Use your Tackle attack!" Ash ordered
Butterfree continues to tackle the helicopter but to no avail
"Ha. That pathetic little insect thinks it can stop us." Jessie taunted
"I don't think it's working, Ash" Jake said to his best friend
"Butterfree, Stun Spore, now!" Ash ordered
Butterfree attempts to do so, but the helicopter's spinning propeller was too strong
"It's no good. The propeller is only blowing it away" Green said
"That was a stunning failure!" James taunted with a laugh
" I guess I'll have to use Pidgeotto, then!" Ash said as he took out Pidgeotto's Poké Ball. But before he can throw it, Misty stopped him
"Wait a minute, Ash, you can't do that! Just think how Butterfree would feel! It's trying it's hardest our there." she scolded
"She has a point, Ash" Jake said as they look to see Butterfree still using Stun Spore
" Alright." Ash said
"Alright! What a catch!" Jessie said
"Now let's hit the sky way!" Meowth said
The chopper begins to fly away
"Our thanks to all of you who came to see Team Rocket's latest triumph! We hope to see you again.." Jessie announced
"Next time we steal the show!" James added
"They're getting away!" Green yelled
"Hey! Come back here!" Ash yelled
Ash's Butterfree flew past them as he chased after the helicopter
"Butterfree!" Ash yelled
"Come on guys! Let's catch up to them!" Jake said
"Here goes!" Brock said
He and Jake both pulled the lever and the chase was on
The gang then found themselves in a rocky canyon area
"I don't see Butterfree, or Team Rocket." Misty said
"They gotta be around here somewhere" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
"Butterfree was flying as fast as it could." Misty said
"I bet it's gonna follow that pink Butterfree no matter where they take it!" Brock replied
"That's what you do when you're in love" Green said
"Right you are, Green. Right you are" Jake said
Green blushed as he said that
"Butterfree, where are you?!" Ash called out
"Pika!" Pikachu called
"Show yourself, Butterfree!" Jake called
"Please, Butterfree!" Misty called
"Butterfree!" Green called
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur yelled
"Hey Butterfree!" Ash called
As the two hot aired balloons flew through the canyon, the gang soon spotted Butterfree
"There he is!" Green said as she points forward
"Oh, Butterfree!" Ash said with a smile
Ash's Butterfree then flew up to them
"Good to see that you're okay, Butterfree" Jake said
"What happened?" Ash asked
"Free free!" Butterfree said as he points forward
"You're saying the crooks went that way?" Jake asked
Butterfree nods his head
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
"What about the pink Butterfree? Is she there too?" Green asked
Butterfree nods his head
"Don't worry! Show us the way, Butterfree!" Ash said
Butterfree then led the friends to where Team Rocket is hiding out
"Say guys. When we get to where Team Rocket is hiding, why don't we give them a little surprise" Jake said
"What kind of surprise?" Green asked
"Since those guys like to say their motto every time we encounter them, why don't we show them how they feel when we do it" Jake offered
The gang all smile as they get what he is saying
"Good idea, Jake" Ash said
"Yeah, I like to see how they like it" Green said with smirk
Misty and Brock both nod their heads at this
Meanwhile, in Team Rocket's hideout in a warehouse, the trio were counting all the Butterfree they had stolen. The Butterfree were all trapped in a net
"Ninety-eight, Meowth! Nintey-nine, Meowth! One-hundred, Meowth!" Meowth counted with a laugh
"A very nice catch." Jessie commented
"Just between us, isn't it nice to have one of our nefarious schemes actually work for once?" James asked
"Feels great!" replied Meowth
"We're at our best when we're at our worst. We finally got it back!" Jessie said
"Yeah. When the boss hears about this, I'll be top cat again." Meowth said as he imagines himself being on the Team Rocket boss' lap
Suddenly the windows break
"Hey! Somebody's bustin' in!" Meowth yelled
"Who is it?! Who's there!?" Jessie asked
The gang then jumps inside and struck a pose as they did an imitation of Team Rocket's motto
"Prepare for trouble!" Ash said
"And make that quintuple!" Jake said
"To protect the world from devastation!" Brock said as he holds up a flashlight over his face
"To unite all peoples within our nation!" Misty and Green said
The trio sweat drops at this
"This was just..." Jessie said
"Too good..." James said
"To last..." Meowth finished
"You got that right!" Ash said
"We're defending the beauty of truth and love!" Misty added
"And we're taking back those Butterfree!" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur shouted
"Let's do it!" Brock said
"We gotta stop them!" Meowth shouted
"Today's the day..." Jessie started
"You wont' win!" James finished
"We'll see about that!" Jake yelled
"Butterfree, go!" Ash yelled
"Beedrill, assist Butterfree!" Jake yelled as he let's out Beedrill
Butterfree and Beedrill flew in. While Beedrill attacks Team Rocket, Butterfree flew past them.
"Go, Starmie!" Misty said as she let's Starmie out. "Starmie, Tackle attack!"
Starmie tackles at the trio causing them to run away. Meanwhile, Ash's Butterfree begins to hit the net to free the other Butterfree. He hits it several times. As he was doing that, the pink Butterfree was starting admire Ash's Butterfree for his bravery and determination. And at full power, Ash's Butterfree attacks the net again and was able to break it allowing his fellow Butterfree to escape.
"Yes! They're all free!" Green yelled
The trio saw this and begins to run after them
"The Butterfree are getting away! Do something!" Meowth yelled
"Take this!" Jessie yelled as she hits Starmie with a Sledgehammer and sends it flying into a wall
"You'll pay for that! Beedrill, Poison Sting!" Jake ordered
Beedrill fires Poison Sting at the trio causing them pain. Misty then came in with a water sprayer
"Hang in there, Starmie!" she said as she squirted water on Starmie which revives it
"Where did you get that?" Jake asked
"I found it in the warehouse" Misty answered
Brock then opened the door to allow the Butterfrees to escape
"Hurry up! Fly away!" Brock ordered
Just as the Team Rocket trio was trying to recapture the Butterfrees, Green decides to step in
"My turn! Eevee, use Quick Attack on Team Rocket!" Green said as she lets out Eevee
"Eevee!"
Eevee then rushed at Team Rocket with Quick Attack and knocks them down one by one. Meanwhile, Ash went to his Butterfree who was clearly exhausted
"Are you alright, Butterfree?" Ash asked
The pink Butterfree then flew over to Ash's Butterfree. Suddenly, James came up behind her
"I'll get you!" James shouted
But before he can catch her, Ash's Butterfree tackles him away. This earned him a blush from the pink Butterfree. Jake, Bulbasaur, and Beedrill walk up to them.
"What do you know? It looks like your Butterfree finally won the pink Butterfree's heart" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
"Beedrill" Beedrill added
"Heh heh. Yeah. Good work, Butterfree!" Ash said as he gives his Butterfree a thumbs up
The Team Rocket trio then got back in their chopper and start it up
"We won't let them get away!" Meowth shouted
The chopper flew off and after the escaping Butterfrees, just as the gang arrived too late
"Stop! Come back!" Brock yelled
"Wait!" Misty called
"Quick! Back to the balloons!" Jake yelled as he and Bulbasaur rush off
"No need to tell us twice!" Ash said as he and the rest of the gang follow after him
The gang quickly got in their balloons and float after Team Rocket
"Hurry! Faster!" Misty yelled as the two balloons along with the Butterfrees chased after their enemies
"There's Team Rocket!" Ash yelled as they spot the chopper
"The flock of Butterfree!" Misty yelled
The trio then activated the giant net again
"Oh no! They're gonna recapture them again!" Green yelled
"Pikachu!" Pikachu said to Ash's Butterfree
Ash's Butterfree flew over and allowed Pikachu to ride on him
"Pikachu? What are you two gonna do?" Ash asked
"If I were to guess, I would say that Pikachu and Butterfree are going to get up close and personal with Team Rocket" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it watches them while the Pink Butterfree look on in worry
Ash's Pikachu and Butterfree flew next to the Team Rocket chopper and then flew in front of them.
"What's that?" Jessie asked in confusion
As they got closer, Pikachu leaps off Butterfree and hits the windshield of the chopper
"Ka!" Pikachu said with a smug
"It's gonna zap us!" The trio yelled frantically
As Pikachu begins to charge it's Electric attack, the trio's words got faster and faster until finally, Pikachu zaps the chopper. The attack was so powerful that the chopper explodes which sends Pikachu flying. Luckily, Butterfree was able to catch Pikachu. Meanwhile, the Team Rocket trio begins to plummet from the air
"We were so close this time! But now we're..." Meowth yelled
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!" Jessie yelled as they all fell into the crevice in the canyon
Ash's Pikachu and Butterfree then returns to the group
"We did it!" Ash yelled
"That'll teach 'em not to play around with a Pokémon romance!" Misty added
"Now the Butterfree will finally mate in peace" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said
Butterfree flew over to Ash's balloon allowing Pikachu to jump on
"You did it, Pikachu! Great work!" Ash praised his partner
"Pi Pikachu!" Pikachu responded
"You did a great work too, Butterfree! That was awesome by the way!" Green said to Ash's Butterfree
"What she said" Jake added
"Free free" Ash's Butterfree said
The pink Butterfree then flew up to him. With a blush, the pink Butterfree then begin to dance much to Ash's Butterfree's happiness
"Hey look!" Ash said
"Now the pink Butterfree is doing the courtship dance for your Butterfree!" Brock said with a chuckle
"Alright, good for you Butterfree!" Ash said
"He's finally with the girl of his dreams" Jake said
"It's really romantic" Green sighed
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said
The gang watched as the two Butterfrees do their courtship dance together
As the sun was setting, the gang were back on the ground and seeing the two Butterfrees off.
"Well, I guess you have to leave us now, don't you?" Ash asked
"Free" Ash's Butterfree replied as he nods his head
"They have to cross the ocean, to start their new family." Brock explained
"I'll miss you Butterfree" Misty said
"Me too" Green added
"We had some good times, but now it's time we part ways" Jake replied
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said sadly
Ash looks down
"It's time" Brock said
"I'll say goodbye then" Ash said as he kneels down to the Butterfrees
"This is a great Butterfree, so take care of it for me" Ash told the pink Butterfree
"Free free" replied the pink Butterfree
"You're babies are going to be beautiful" Misty said
"You two better get going" Jake said
The pink Butterfree flew up in the air while Ash's Butterfree was sad to leave his trainer.

This caused his Butterfree to tear up. Even Green teared up when she saw this. Ash then stood back up
"Goodbye, Butterfree" Ash said sadly
Ash's Butterfree then flew up next to his mate
"Bye bye, Butterfree!" Misty called as she waves goodbye
"Good luck to both of you!" Brock yelled
"Happy trails!" Jake said
"Take care or yourselves!" Green said as she wipes her tears while waving goodbye
As the Butterfrees flew away, Pikachu and Bulbasaur both said their goodbyes in their language with some tears in their eyes. Ash looked down as reflects on the time when he first caught Butterfree as a Caterpie, the day when it evolved into Metapod and then into Butterfree, the time when he fed him Brock's Pokémon food, the time when it fought in the Cerulean Gym
"Butterfree" Ash said as a tear comes from his eye
"Hey Ash. Butterfree's almost out of sight" Misty said
"Huh?" Ash said as he looked up
He runs up to the cliff and waves goodbye
"Take care, Butterfree! Good luck buddy!" Ash called out
His Butterfree looks back with tears in his eyes
"Goodbye, Butterfree! I'll always remember you! Thank you for everything! Goodbye, Butterfree!" he called out
Ash's Butterfree continues to watch as he and his mate flew farther and near the swarm of other Butterfrees
"Have a good trip, Butterfree! Take care of yourself! Goodbye, Butterfree!" Ash shouted
The flock then flew out of sight
"Be happy old friend" Ash sighed
Brock then placed a hand on his shoulder
"You know, Ash. You raised Butterfree to have a lot of courage, and I think, you just proved you have a lot of courage, too." Brock said
Jake then walks up to him
"Brock is right, buddy. I know it's hard to say goodbye, but if you truly care about Butterfree, you have to let him go. Who knows? Maybe someday, you might meet Butterfree again in the future" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said
"Thank you Brock, Jake" Ash said
"Pikachu" Pikachu said as he jumps onto Ash's shoulder
Misty and Green both walk up
"Isn't that beautiful?" Misty asked
"It sure is" Ash said
"I couldn't agree more" Jake added
"Me too" Green said
'Wherever you are Butterfree, I hope we meet again' thought Jake with a smile
The gang continue to look over the horizon as the sun begins to set.
