The Tower of Terror
Having left Saffron City, the gang are now heading to Lavender Town so that Ash can capture a Ghost Pokémon. As they continue down the trail, a fog comes in.
"The fog's coming in. And that's not good." Ash said
"You got that right. It's so thick that we can barely see anything" Jake added
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur replied as it squint it's eyes through the fog
"We better be super careful, we gotta make sure we don't get separated." Ash told his friends
"Maybe this is an omen. Maybe we should forget about catching a Ghost Pokémon." Misty said nervously
"We've come too far! Everybody, let's hold hands and stay together." Brock said
"Okay." Misty said as she held Ash's hand
"Right!" Ash replied
Green was a little shy at holding Jake's hand
"Do we really have to hold hands?" she asked
"If we don't want to get separated from each other, then we should" Jake answered
"Um. Okay" Green said
She and Jake both took out their hands and held on to each other. They then continue to walk ahead. Green blushed at holding Jake's hand
'I'm actually holding Jake's hand' she thought
Unfortunately, Brock is the only one that doesn't have anyone to hold hands with
"Hey, Ash! Where are you?" the former Pewter gym leader asked
"Up here!" Ash answered
"What do you mean 'here'?" Brock asked
"Right here!" Ash said
Due to the fog, Brock thought he sees Ash's hand in front of Pikachu's tail
"Ah, there!" Brock said
He reaches over to take Ash's hand, but instead he grabs Pikachu's tail by mistake. Alarmed, Pikachu begins to zap Brock. Everyone was startled as Brock yelled in pain. They turn to see Brock had fallen over and Pikachu on top of him.
"Oh. It's just Brock" Jake said
"Thank goodness" Green added
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur replied
"Looks like he must've grabbed Pikachu by mistake" Jake replied
"Brock! Don't you know how scared it makes me when you yell like that?!" Misty asked
"Well, you guys, you sure scared me!" Ash said as he begins to laugh spookily
"Say what!?" Misty yelled as she backed away just as Brock recovered from Pikachu's attack
"Are you feeling okay, buddy?" Jake asked as he felt a little nervous by his friend's behavior
"I'm feeling like a ghost myself." Ash said as he turns around with a skeleton mask on his face "Bleh!"
Everyone screamed at this. Jake and Green were hugging each other while Bulbasaur covered it's eyes. Ash chuckles at scaring his friends
"Sorry, guys! I was just testing you." he said as he removed the mask "If we're gonna try to catch a Ghost Pokémon, we gotta learn to deal with fear. That's the only way we're gonna become great Pokémon trainers."
Jake and Green were annoyed
"That wasn't funny, Ash!" Jake yelled
"You nearly scared us half to death!" Green added
Realizing that they are still hugging each other, Jake and Green let go and turn away while blushing. Misty and Brock on the other hand were very furious
"YOU MUST BE CRAZY!" the Cerulean gym leader bellowed
"DON'T EVER DO THAT!" Brock screamed
Pikachu then zapped Ash while Bulbsaur uses it's vines to smack him in the face. Ash then fell to the ground
"We've got enough things to scare us without your boneheaded jokes!" Misty yelled
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu added
"I'll just save the masks, till next year's Halloween." Ash said
"But Ash is right about one thing. We gotta learn to face our fears if we want to be great Pokémon trainers" Jake said as he goes to help him up
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
The gang continue down the road until they came across a town up ahead. It was a little dark from where they are now.
"There's Lavender Town! I'm glad we got here before it got dark." Ash said
"You can say that again" Jake added
They then begin to walk through the town
"Looks like it's always dark around this place" Misty said
"Is Lavender Town known for being so spooky at night?" Green asked rhetorically
The gang then came across a large tower
"What's that?" Green asked "Is this some kind of tower"
"Not just any tower, Green" Brock replied "This is the Pokémon Tower. Where Ghost Pokémon hang out"
"Really?" Green asked nervously
"Judging by how spooky it looks, Brock could be right" Jake said
"I like what they done with the place" Ash said before looking at the tower nervously
"Okay, Ash. It's time for you to show us what a great trainer you are!" Misty said
"Huh?" Ash puzzled
"We'll let you handle this one alone." Brock said
Ash was speechless at what they told them
"Hey, wait a minute! You guys promised me you'd help me catch a Ghost Pokémon when we got to Lavender Town!" he protested
"Technically, Ash. We never promised you that" Jake pointed out
"Gee thanks" Ash muttered
Jake and Ash turn to see Misty, Green, and Brock a few distance from them
"You've gotta be kidding me" Jake said in exasperation
"Saur!" Bulbasaur repeated also in exasperation
"You know how to deal with fear, Ash! Besides, you have Jake with you!" Brock called out
"Thanks for the support" Jake said sarcastically before turning to Green "What about you, Green? Aren't you coming?"
"I would like to, Jake. But to be honest, the Pokémon Tower is kinda giving me the creeps" Green replied
'Cowards' Jake thought unimpressed
"Ha! Run away if you want to! I'm not scared! And I'm not gonna let some stupid ghost Pokémon prevent me from becoming a great Pokémon master! You with me, Jake?" Ash asked as he turns to his best friend
"Sure thing, buddy" Jake said
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur said as it had the same spirit as it's trainer
"What about you Pikachu?" Ash asked Pikachu
The boys turn to see Pikachu getting into a sleeping bag and falling asleep much to their dismay
"Pikachu!" Ash said in annoyance
"So much for loyalty" Jake said with a facepalm
"Saur" Bulbasaur said as it shake it's head
Unbeknownst to everybody, in a nearby bush was a wild Cubone. It was weeping over the lost of it's mother who had passed away. Ash groaned at Pikachu falling asleep
"Alright, good idea. Let's do this in the morning. Hey!" he said before getting into his own sleeping bag and begins to sleep as well "Make sure you don't wake me up too early, okay? Night, guys."
"Oh come on!" Jake said as he and the others sweat dropped at Ash
"Time to wake up!" Misty yelled before banging on a gong to wake up Ash and Pikachu. The sound of the gong also startled the Cubone.
"Whoa! That might be overdoing it a bit" Green said as she covered her ears
"I'm not even going to ask where she got that" Jake replied
"Maybe I'll be a little braver tomorrow morning." Ash said
Misty sighs at his response. Jake then walks up to Ash
"You said it yourself, Ash. We need to deal with our fears if we want to be Pokémon trainers" Jake reminded "We came here so you can capture a Ghost Pokémon and that's what we're going to do"
Ash blink his eyes at him
"Sometimes, it's okay to be scared. But what you should also learn is to not let fear control you" Jake said
Misty, Brock, and Green nod their heads at what he said. Even Bulbasaur and Pikachu smiled at this. Ash then smiled
"You're right, buddy. Thank you" he said as he got up.
Suddenly, they hear screaming from the Pokémon Tower
"Horrible! It sounds really horrible in there!" Misty said terrified
"You're right. They must have some kind of torture chamber in there" Brock said
"Torture chamber?" Ash asked nervously
"Now I'm even more nervous about going in there" Green gulped
The Cubone stuck it's head out of the bush and saw the trainers
"Cubone?" it wondered
"You know. I heard from some people on the way here that the Pokémon Tower is haunted by a ghost of a Marowak that was trying to protect it's baby" Jake said
Cubone, having overheard Jake, couldn't help but think back to when it was young. It remembered how it's mother told it run away. When it did, it saw Team Rocket killed Marowak right in front of it. Cubone's eyes filled with tears as it remembered that fateful day.
"Let's just hope that it's just a rumor" Green said a little nervous
Suddenly, screaming was heard from the tower again.
"Those screams again!" Misty said
"But I heard a different voice that time." Brock said
"Could someone already be in there?" Green asked
"I don't know, Green. But those voices are familiar. I feel like I heard them all before." Ash said
"Me too" Jake added
"Why don't we go inside and find out who they are?" Brock asked
"You two go in first." Misty said as she and Brock begin to push Ash and Jake
"Go! Go!" the gym leaders said as they shove the two friends forward
"Okay okay. No need to get pushy." Jake said as he and Ash go up to the door. Bulbasaur and Green followed behind them
Ash open the door and he and Jake peek inside.
"Hello there? Anybody home?" Ash called
"Bulbasaur?" Bulbasaur also called out
The gang then went inside the tower
"I'm getting the strangest feeling that we shouldn't be here" Green said nervously
"It's kinda dark in here." Misty said
Suddenly, the door closes.
"Uh oh!" Jake said as he saw the room dark
"Now it's pitch black! Do something!" gasped Misty
"We need some light" Green said
"Charmander, I choose you!" Ash said as he lets out Charmander
"Char char" Charmander said before breathing Flamethrower to light up the room. Charmander stops clearly exhausted
"This place is creepy! Maybe we should come back tomorrow when it's daylight." Misty said with fright
"Have you ever heard of a ghost that comes out during the day?" Ash asked
"Yeah, Misty. Everyone knows that ghosts only come out at night" Jake added
Misty frowned a bit at this. Brock then comes over while holding a candle
"Look! I found a candle." he said
"Nice find, Brock. This will help us navigate the tower" Green said with a smile
"Alright Charmander, light up that candle for us." Ash commanded
Charmander did what Ash said and fired Flamethrower at the candle to light it up, but also ended up burning Brock as well
"Light the candle, not me!" he yelled at Charmander
Pikachu and Bulbasaur laugh at this
"Looks like Brock got really burned on that part" Jake quipped
Green giggled as she puts a hand on her mouth
Brock, with the candle in his hand, was leading the gang through the inside of the tower
"Watch where you walk! There's a hole in the floor." Misty warned
They came across a large hole
"You weren't kidding, Misty. That hole is really big" Green said
"This place sure is old" Jake added
"Saur" Bulbasaur said as it nod it's head
Suddenly, creepy laughter was heard
"Did you hear that?" Green asked as she looked around
"I sure did" Jake said with a gulp
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur said as it looked around nervously
"Where are those voices coming from?" Misty asked
"Beats me. But I sure don't want to find out" Jake said
"Me neither" Ash added
"Pika pika" Pikachu replied frightened
"Let's check out this place" Brock said as he walked off with the others following behind. Jake was about to follow after them until...
"Get out" an eerie female voice said
"Huh?" he asked as he looked around
"Saur Bulba?" Bulbasaur asked
"I thought I heard something, buddy" Jake answered before shrugging his shoulder "I guess my ears must be playing tricks on me. Come on. Let's catch up with the others"
Bulbasaur nod it's head as it went off with it's trainer to catch up with their friends. Unbeknownst to them, a purple cloud with red eyes appeared. It was watching them with an intense glare.
After Jake and Bulbasaur caught up with their friends, they continue walking through the tower. They then see a door in front of them
"Might as well check in this room first." Brock said
"Maybe we should just get out of here!" Misty said nervously
"Nah. There's no way we can turn back now." Ash replied
"What he said" Jake added
"Still. I wonder what's behind this door" Green said curiously
"We gotta go in" Ash said as they walked up to the door. Ash then opens the door to a room
"Hey, ghost Pokémon?! If you're in here, say hello!" Brock called
"I'm gonna capture you!" Ash called
"Don't say that! If they know you're trying to capture them, they won't come out of hiding." Misty said
"You're right" Ash said
"And besides, I don't think calling out to them is gonna work" Jake said
Green nods her head at what he said
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur replied in agreement
Brock chuckled at this. Then the lights went on which surprises everyone. Even Pikachu and Charmander were hugging each other.
"Char char" Charmander said
"Pika" Pikachu added
"What's this?" Ash asked
"It looks like.." Brock said
"Huh?" Misty asked
"I think this is dining room" Green said
What the gang was seeing in the room was a table covered in a white cloth. There were also some some food on it
"It looks like some kind of fancy restaurant!" Brock said
"Maybe it's a party? Or some kind of reception?" added Misty
"Based on the setup here, you could be right" Jake said
"But who's it for?" Brock asked
Ash then notices a string with a card attached to it
"What's that string?" he asked
"There's something written on the card." Brock said
Green gets a good look at what it said
"It says: Pull This" she read
"Well, why not?" Ash as he grabs the string
"I don't think you should do that, Ash. It could be a trap" Jake warned
"Oh come on, Jake. It can't be that bad" Ash said before pulling the string
As he did so, confetti and streamers came out followed by a welcome sign
"Well. I guess that's one way to welcome someone" Jake said
"Saur saur saur" Bulbasaur replied
"Are we..?" Ash asked
"Being welcomed?" Misty asked
"I think we are" Green said
"But by who?" Brock asked
Misty then notices the items on the table starting to move
"Look!" she yelled
The gang looks to see the table and the furniture beginning to levitate. They screamed in terror as that happened. Suddenly one of the chairs came in and caught Brock
"Whoa! Help me!" he yelled as he was being carried away
"Yikes!" Green cried as she was also swept by one of the chairs
Bulbasaur, Pikachu, and Charmander were also swept away by the floating furniture. Ash and Misty took the chance to run for their lives. Jake stayed behind and runs up to the furniture
"Green!" he said
"Help me, Jake!" Green yelled as the chair continue to fly her around
"Jump! I'll catch you!" Jake said
"Okay" Green replied nervously
"Bulbasaur, you jump off too. Use your vines to catch yourself on the ground!" Jake said to his starter
Bulbasaur nod it's head. Green then jumped off the chair while Bulbasaur leaped off the dish it was on. Jake runs up and catches Green in a bridal style while Bulbasaur used it's vines to catch itself on the ground.
"Phew. Thanks" Green said
"Don't mention it" Jake replied
Green blushes at the situation she was in
"You can put me down now" she said
"Sure" Jake said as he set her on the floor while blushing himself
Bulbasaur begins to chuckle which is noticed by Jake
"Oh shut it, Bulbasaur" he said embarrassed
"Jump!" Brock yelled as he leaps off the chair while Pikachu and Charmander leaped off the dishes they were on.
"Let's get out of here!" Brock yelled as he left the room
"Right behind you!" Jake and Green said as they follow after him
Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Pikachu were the last to leave the room.
The gang finally made their way out of the tower. Green and Misty were catching their breaths.
"There is no way I'm going back in that tower! It's just too scary in there!" Misty said
"Me neither" Brock said
Cubone was still in the bush as it begins to listen in on their conversation
"What are you saying? There's no way we can capture a Ghost Pokémon if we don't go back in there. Right, Pikachu? Charmander?" Ash asked
Pikachu shook his head while Charmander fires Flamethrower at the trainers. Jake and Green were able to duck while Ash, Misty, and Brock ended up getting hit by the attack. They then fell over
"Whoa! Easy with the Flamethrower, Charmander" Jake said
"Bulba" Bulbasaur responded who had just gotten out of the way
The three friends then recovered from the attack
"Hold on! Are you two really cowards?!" Ash yelled at his Pokémon "How do you expect to beat Sabrina's Psychic Pokémon if you don't go back in? Do you want to lose again?"
"He does have a point you know" Jake said
Pikachu remembered how he was defeated by Sabrina's Kadabra back in the Saffron Gym. He knew his trainer was right. Ash kneels down in front of him and Charmander
"Listen. If you're ever gonna beat Psychic Pokémon, you've gotta learn to overcome your fear. Understand?" Ash asked
Pikachu and Charmander both nod their heads
"That's the spirit" Jake said before realizing what he said "Sorry"
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur assured
"That's okay, buddy" Ash said to him " I say it's time to give it another try! Pikachu, Charmander, are you with me?"
Pikachu and Charmander replied in agreement. Jake and Bulbasaur then came up
"I'm with you too, Ash. Let's go get you a Ghost Pokémon" he said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
Ash smiled at his friend
"Great! Let's do it!" he said
They then marched towards the Pokémon Tower. But Green, Misty, and Brock remained behind. The two boys and their Pokémon noticed that they didn't follow them
"Come on guys! What about you?" Ash asked
"Aren't you coming with us?" Jake asked
"We'll both be waiting for you right here" Brock replied as he crouched down
"Have a nice time!" Misty said
Ash, Bulbasaur, and Charmander nearly fell over
"Green?" Jake asked as he looked at her
"Sorry, Jake. But after what we experienced in there, I feel that I should stay out here. You two go on ahead. Just be careful" Green replied
Jake and Bulbasaur sighed at this
"Okay" Jake said before looking at his best friends "Let's go"
The boys and their Pokémon made their way over to the Tower. What they didn't know was that Cubone had secretly followed them. Just as they walked inside the door, Cubone rushed inside before it closed. Cubone then hid in the shadows so it won't get caught. Ash, Jake, Bulbasaur, Pikachu, and Charmander were wandering through the tower to find Ghost Pokémon.
"Hello, everybody! We're back! We'd love to meet you! Feel free to introduce yourselves whenever you like!" called Ash
"Yeah. Any Ghost Pokémon scaring in here?" Jake asked
They then came across the hole. Ash then heard something.
"What was that?" Ash asked nervously
"Beats me. Maybe it's the wind" Jake said also nervous
"I doubt that" Ash said before taking out his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: Ghost Pokémon are in a vapor form. Their true nature is shrouded in mystery.
"Dexter's right" Jake said "No one really knows what the motives of these Ghost Pokémon."
"True. I guess we'll try to solve the mystery." Ash replied
Suddenly, they heard some voices from the hole
"Did you hear that?" Jake asked
"Saur" Bulbasaur said confused
"They're down there! Time for us to go get em! Pikachu, electric attack!" Ash commanded his Pikachu
Pikachu nod his head and zaps whatever it is down the hole. The boys heard screams of pain from the hole
"I don't know what is down there, but I think you got em, Ash" Jake said
"Thanks, Jake" Ash said "Charmander, Flamethrower, now!"
Charmander obeyed Ash and fired Flamethrower down the hole. After a few seconds, the boys see a big fireball from the hole
"Hey, it's working!" Ash said excitedly
"Well then. You know what to do next, buddy" Jake said
"Right" Ash said before taking out a Poké Ball "Go, Poké Ball!"
He throws a Poké Ball down the hole. The boys then looks down expecting to hear the sound of the Poké Ball capturing a Pokémon
"Hey Jake. Did I get it?" Ash asked his friend
"I don't know. It's pitch black down there, so I can barely see anything" Jake said
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur added
"Huh. I wonder if I captured it." Ash said
Suddenly, a fireball was seen flashing around from the hole
"Hey! A fireball!" Ash said with a sweatdrop
"I wonder where that came from" Jake added
Bulbasaur begin to scratch it's head with it's vine in confusion. Then, something blew against Jake from the back.
"Huh?" Jake said as he looks in the back. He sees nothing.
Jake shrugs his shoulder and looks at the hole. He then hears a noise from the left. Jake turns to his left and sees a purple puff of smoke floating off.
"Ash, I'm going to check something out. Be right back" Jake said before walking off
"Oh, okay. See you later" Ash said as he was still busy looking down the hole
Confused at what it's trainer is doing, Bulbasaur hurried after Jake. Cubone also saw them leave and goes after them silently
Jake and Bulbasaur were then walking down the halls of the tower.
"Saur Bulbasaur saur?" Bulbasaur asked his trainer
"I don't why, Bulbasaur. But I thought I saw something here" Jake said
"Saur saur?" Bulbasaur puzzled
"Leave!" a spooky voice yelled
This caused Jake and Bulbasaur to flinch
"Did you hear that?" Jake asked
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur replied nervously
"That's voice that I heard when we first came in. I knew I didn't imagine it" Jake said
Bulbasaur looked ahead and widens it's eyes.
"Saur!" it yelled
"What is it, buddy?" Jake asked
Bulbasaur points frantically forward. Jake turns and gasp to see a purple ball of mist. It then floats forward
"Could it be a ghost?" he asked
"Saur" Bulbasaur said confused
"Let's go after it" Jake said before going after the sphere of mist
Bulbasaur followed after it. They followed the sphere through the hall which turns left to a set of stairs. Looking at the staircase, Jake motions Bulbasaur to follow him. Going up the stairs, Jake and Bulbasaur are in another floor with several doorways to different rooms.
"I think this is the second floor" Jake said
"Saur" Bulbasaur nodded it's head
"But which room is that ghost in?" Jake asked before looking at a nearby doorway "Let's look in there"
Bulbasaur gulped as they went through the doorway. They see in the room that it was an old bed and some drawers.
"Looks like someone's bedroom" Jake replied "I wonder if that ghost could be hiding somewhere"
The two begin to search the place. Jake was searching inside a chest while Bulbasaur was walking on the ground to find any evidence. Just as it reached the bed, Bulbasaur sees the purple sphere appearing while showing it's evil red eyes. Shocked, Bulbasaur backed up with the ghost coming forward.
"Saur saur!" Bulbasaur said as it used it's vines to tap Jake in the back
"Not now Bulbasaur" Jake said as he continue to search the chest
Annoyed, Bulbasaur used it's vines to slap Jake in the rear
"Ow!" Jake yelled as he jumped up before turning to Bulbasaur "Bulbasaur, what did you do that for!?"
Bulbasaur then points forward with it's foot. Jake turns to where Bulbasaur is pointing and gasps. The purple sphere then begins to take shape. It grew bigger and formed hands and a mouth. Jake and Bulbasaur shivered as the ghost got near them. And then...
"WAAAAA" the ghost shrieked
Meanwhile outside the Tower, Green, Misty and Brock were still waiting for Ash and Jake.
"Ash and Jake are taking too long" Misty said worried
"I know. I'm starting to get worried" Green added "Maybe we should go in and see how they're doing"
"Good idea" Brock said
"Huh?" Misty asked as she turned around
"What's wrong Misty?" Brock asked
"I thought I heard a voice" Misty answered
"I didn't hear anything" Green said
Suddenly, Misty was lifted off the ground causing her to yelp
"Misty!" Brock and Green yelled
"Help! The ghost has got me!" Misty yelled as she was going higher. Suddenly, she begins to fall back down while screaming
"Oh no! Brock catch her!" Green yelled
"I'm on it!" Brock yelled as he caught he caught Misty. They then fell over
"Misty, are you alright?" Green asked
"I think so" Misty replied "But that voice. I think something terrible has happened to Ash"
"AAAAAAAAAH!"
They jumped at hearing Jake's screaming
"Someone's screaming again" Misty said nervously
"Wait a minute" Green said "That sounded like Jake. He must be in trouble"
"Come on! We better go help them" Brock said
The trio then race towards the tower
Back in the tower, Jake and Bulbasaur had raced out of the room with the ghost on their tail
"Get out! Get out!" the ghost shrieked as it begins to hurl several furniture at them
"Whoa!" Jake as dodges a furniture
Bulbasaur looked back and saw the ghost hurl a sheet at it which covers it
"Saur!" Bulbasaur cried as it can barely see
"I got it!" Jake said as he grabs the sheet and toss it on his right
"Saur" Bulbasaur said gratefully
"No problem" Jake replied
They duo continue to run from the ghost until they ran down the hallway. Jake then notices some staircase
"Up those stairs!" Jake said as he and Bulbasaur ran towards them. Only for the ghost to suddenly appear in front of them
"Yikes!" Jake yelled
"Saur!" Bulbasaur yelled
"Quick! Let's go back!" Jake yelled as he and Bulbasaur ran back
They continue to run until they saw a hole in the floor. Jake and Bulbasaur stopped just in time
"That was close" Jake said
"Saur" Bulbasaur said as they begin to back away from the hole
Unfortunately, they turn to see the ghost in front of them
"Leave this place! Or suffer the consequences!" the ghost shouted
Seeing there is no other way, Jake can only glare at the ghost
"Looks like we have no choice" he said "We're gonna have to fight it"
"Saur? Bulbasaur saur!" Bulbasaur yelled
"I know, buddy. But we have no choice" Jake replied
Bulbasaur understood it's trainer and runs in front to face the ghost. The ghost glared intensely at Bulbasaur with Bulbasaur doing the same
"Bulbasaur, Vine Whip attack!" Jake ordered
Bulbasaur extends it's vines and tries to hit the ghost, but it doesn't affect it. As they were battling, Cubone watched this from one of the rooms it was hiding in.
"Try a Tackle attack!" Jake yelled
Bulbasaur jumps in the air and tries to tackle the ghost, but it ends up going through it no matter how hard it tried. The ghost growled and used it's claw to hit Bulbasaur
"Bulbasaur!" Jake yelled before his starter Pokémon was thrown into him "Oof!"
Jake was then knocked off his feet and skids on his rear sliding near the hole
"You okay, Bulbasaur?" he asked
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur replied
Meanwhile, Green was racing down the hall in the 1st floor. After she, Misty, and Brock went inside the tower, they saw Ash and Pikachu lying on the ground unconscious. But Green saw that Jake and Bulbasaur weren't with them so she begins to look for him.
'I'm coming, Jake. I just hope that you're okay' thought Green
As she was running through the halls, Green spotted the staircase leading to the second floor
Back on the second floor, the ghost was advancing towards Jake and Bulbasaur. They were holding each other as it does
"Get out! Leave this place!" shouted the ghost
'What am I gonna do? Bulbasaur can't attack it. It looks we're done for ' Jake thought
"Cubone!"
Jake and Bulbasaur turn to see Cubone racing over. It then got in front of them to face the ghost
"A Cubone?" Jake asked
"Saur?" Bulbasaur asked
"Huh?" the ghost said as it stops upon seeing the Cubone
"Cubone bone!" Cubone said
The ghost got a good look at Cubone and immediately recognized it. Then something happened, the ghost's appearance changed into the form of a Marowak. Jake, Bulbasaur, and Cubone were surprised. Cubone then teared up as it recognizes the ghost. It then ran over to Marowak's ghost and embraced her.
"My baby. I'm so glad to see you safe!" Marowak's ghost said she hugged Cubone back
"I don't believe it. There really is a ghost of Marowak" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said equally surprised
Jake then decides to ask the ghost a question
"Um. Excuse me, Ms. Marowak's ghost." he said
"Yes?" Marowak's ghost asked as she and Cubone broke the hug
"I'm glad that you're not trying to attack us. But, why are you haunting this tower?" Jake asked as he and Bulbasaur stood back up
"Hmm. Perhaps I should start from the beginning" Marowak's ghost said as she begins to tell her story "You see, it happened many weeks ago. In life, I was this Cubone's mother. We lived peacefully near this tower. Until that day..."
A flashback begins as it shows Cubone being chased by some Team Rocket grunts. One of them was holding a net
"Get that Cubone!" one of the grunts said "It's skull will fetch a high price!"
Cubone continues to run from Team Rocket until it stops at a large rock. He turns to see Team Rocket advancing towards him
"End of the line, runt!" the grunt said
"Yeah. You got nowhere to run!" the grunt with the net added "Make it easy for yourself and come with us"
Cubone shivered as they got close. But before the grunts can nab him, something bashed against them which also knocks the grunts to the ground
"What the?" the grunt said
They got up to see Marowak. She was standing protectively in front of her son
"Maro maro Marowak" Marowak said to Cubone as she told him to get away
Cubone obeyed her and fled while Marowak stayed to face Team Rocket
"I'll teach you to get in our way!" the grunt with the net said as he took out a baton that emits some electricity
Cubone continues to run away until it stops to hear his mother's cries. He turns around to widen eyes at what he has witnessed. The flashback ends and returns to the present.
Jake and Bulbasaur were shocked at what they had heard.
"Oh my gosh!" Jake said "I knew Team Rocket was bad, but murdering the mother of this Cubone? That's so horrible!"
"Saur!" Bulbasaur said angrily
Cubone nod his head
"Yes" Marowak replied "After that, my spirit haunted this tower, scaring away anyone who trespasses."
Green had just came up to the doorway of the second floor. She was happy to see that Jake and Bulbasaur are okay, but was surprise to see a Cubone and a ghost of Marowak.
"And now that you're reunited with Cubone, you finally calmed down" Jake said
"Cubone" Cubone said as he looked at the ghost
"You are correct. I am at peace and now I can finally move on" Marowak's ghost said as she begins to go up
"Cubone!" Cubone said in surprised
"Saur" Bulbasaur said
Green watched this in amazement
"Looks like you're moving to the great beyond" Jake said
"I know" Marowak's ghost said "But I would like to ask that you take good care of my son please"
"I will" Jake said
"Cubone! Cubone!" Cubone cried
"Don't worry, Cubone" Marowak's ghost assured "I will always be with you in spirit. Goodbye, my son"
And with that, Marowak's ghost disappeared. Cubone then burst into tears at seeing his mother gone again. Feeling bad for him, Jake and Bulbasaur walked over to Cubone. Bulbasaur puts it's vines around Cubone to comfort while Jake knees down and begins to gently rub his hand on Cubone's skull helmet.
"Cubone?" Cubone asked. He had never felt the hand of a human before and he was starting to like it
"It's alright, Cubone. You don't have to cry anymore" Jake said to Cubone "Your mother will always watch over you. After all, some people are never truly gone"
"Saur saur" Bulbasaur added
"As I promised her, I will take care of you now. That is if you want to come with us" Jake said
Although his face is covered by the skull helmet, Cubone became happy
"Cubone!" he cried as he jumps into Jake's arms
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said happily
"I guess it's official" Jake said "Welcome to our family, Cubone"
"Cubone" Cubone replied
"Jake?"
They turn to see Green come over just as Jake puts Cubone down
"Green?" Jake said
Green then runs up and captures Jake into a big hug much to his surprise
"I am very glad that you and Bulbasaur are okay" she said
"Uh, thanks" Jake said with a blush "I'm surprised to see you here"
"When I heard you scream, me, Misty, and Brock went inside the Pokémon Tower to check up on you and Ash. I went to look for you after we went in. When I got here, I saw you and Bulbasaur with a Cubone and a ghost of Marowak." Green explained
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said surprised
"Oh, you saw that, huh?" Jake asked "Even the part where Marowak's ghost floated up?"
Green nod her head before looking at Cubone. She puts her hand on her knees
"Hello Cubone" she greeted "My name is Green"
Cubone got nervous and backed up a bit
"It's okay, Cubone. She's my friend" Jake said "Green won't hurt you"
Cubone nods his head and walks up to the girl. He greeted her in his language
"Nice to meet you too" Green said as she gently patted Cubone on the head which he liked
"Speaking of friends, where is Ash?" Jake asked
"Oh him. Me, Brock, and Misty found him and Pikachu lying unconscious on the ground on the first floor" Green said "In fact, Misty and Brock are waiting for me to come get you."
"I see. Let's go downstairs" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it agrees with his trainer
Jake, Bulbasaur, Green, Bulbasur, and Cubone then made their way downstairs. Walking down the halls, they saw Misty and Brock kneeling in front of an unconscious Ash and Pikachu.
"Cubone Bone?" Cubone asked as he looked at them
"Yes, Cubone. These are other friends. They're nice too once you get to know them" Jake replied
They then made their way over to the two gym leaders. Misty and Brock were happy and relieved to see that Jake is okay
"Jake!" Misty said
"You and Bulbasaur are okay" Brock said
"Thanks guys" Jake said before looking at Ash and Pikachu "What happened to them?"
"We don't know" Misty replied
"When we came inside, we saw them like this" Brock added
"We assumed that he was knocked out" Green said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it looked at Pikachu with worry. Even Cubone was worried as he walked up
"Oh man" Jake said as he and Green knelt down
"Ash? Pikachu?" Misty called
"Come on. Wake up" Brock said
"Can you hear me, buddy" Jake said "It's me, Jake. Your best friend"
"Please. Open your eyes" Green added
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it tries to get Pikachu to wake up
"Say something, Ash" Jake said
Just then, Ash and Pikachu slowly woke up. Ash turns to Misty
"Hi Misty" he greeted
"You're alive" Misty said with a smile
"Good to see you're okay, buddy" Jake said
"Jake!" Ash said as he sat up and takes his hand "Thanks for that"
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said as it was relieved that Pikachu was okay
"Pika" Pikachu replied gratefully
"You really had us worried there" Green said as she lightly scolded Ash
"Yeah. Especially Pikachu" Brock added
"Hey guys" Ash greeted "Sorry to worry all of you"
"No sweat" Brock said
"It's really good to have my best friend back" Jake said
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
Misty smiled while wiping some tears from her eyes. Ash then notices Cubone
"Say, what's with this Cubone?" he asked
Misty and Brock also sees Cubone
"Yeah" Brock said "I never notice that Cubone"
"Is it yours Jake?" Misty asked
"Uh huh" Jake said "You will not believe what me and Bulbasaur had went through"
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur replied while nodding it's head.
Ash, Misty, Pikachu, and Brock looked at each other while Green just shook her head in amusement
Morning came as the gang began to depart from the Pokémon Tower.
"But Ash, what about the Ghost Pokémon?" Misty asked
"Ah, it's impossible to catch them." Ash said dismissively
"Are you sure? Without a Ghost Pokémon, you'll never be able to defeat Sabrina" Green reminded
"Yeah. How are you ever gonna beat the Psychic Pokémon?" Brock asked
"Maybe I'll have to use my sense of humor." Ash said
This left the gang puzzled
"And what do you mean by that?" Jake asked
"Saur?" Bulbasaur asked as a question mark appeared over it's head
Pikachu then spot something from behind. The gang turned to see a Haunter who had somehow follow them. Haunter then made a face which frighten the friends. While Misty and Brock made a run for it, Jake, Green, Cubone, and Bulbasaur were frozen with fear. Ash and Pikachu then begin to laugh at this. They then notice their remaining friends still there.
"It's okay, guys" Ash said "It's just a Haunter that I encountered."
This caused them to calm down a bit as they get a good look at Haunter
"Wow" Green said
"I've seen Haunter before in one of my books" Jake replied
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur said in relief
"Cubone" Cubone added
Jake then took out his Pokédex and scans Haunter
Jake's Pokédex: Haunter, the Gas Pokémon and the evolved form of Gastly. Because of its ability to slip through block walls, it is said to be from another dimension.
"Interesting" Jake said while putting his putting his Pokédex away
"By the way Ash, how did you get Haunter to come with you anyway?" Green asked
"Let's just say that me and Pikachu had a little out of body experience" Ash said
"Pikachu" Pikachu added
"Huh?" Jake and Green said confused
"It's a long story" Ash replied "I'll tell while we catch up with the others"
"Okay" Jake said "But first, I need to officially capture Cubone"
Jake took out a Poké Ball from his bag and holds it in front of Cubone
"Cubone?" Cubone asked
"Well Cubone. Since, I'm going to take care of you, I need to capture you in this Poké Ball. Don't worry, I'll let you out afterwards" Jake said
Understanding this, Cubone reaches over and touches the Poké Ball to suck it inside. The Poké Ball then shakes two times and clicks. It then disappears. Ash, Green, Jake, and Haunter blinked at this.
"Don't worry. I'll make room for him" Jake said
He then takes out Beedrill's Poké Ball and his Pokédex. Jake then used his Pokédex to exchange Beedrill for Cubone. When the process was done, Jake then lets Cubone. Cubone then jumped into Jake's arms
"I know, Cubone. It's good to be out" Jake said as he hugs Cubone
"Congratulations, Jake" Green said as she walk up to him
"Yeah. You're really on a roll, buddy" Ash said
"Pikachu" Pikachu added
"Bulbasaur" Bulbasaur added
"Haunter" Haunter said with a nod
"Thanks, guys" Jake said "Now what do you say we catch up with the others"
"Sure thing, buddy. Let's go" Ash said as they started down the trail after the two gym leaders
"By the way, Ash. What were going to say about that out of body experience?" Green asked
"Well, Green. It went like this." Ash said
As Ash told them about his experience with the Ghost Pokémon, they are now heading back to Saffron City for Ash's rematch against Sabrina.
