The Punchy Pokémon
We now join our heroes as they continue on their journey. Along the way, they encountered a Pokémon with boxing gloves doing some punches.
"Wow. Look at that" Ash said "It's a wild Hitmonchan"
"So that's one of those Fighting Pokémon I've heard about" Misty said
"That ones a real fighter" Brock commented
"Sure looks like it. That Hitmonchan really knows how to punch" Jake said
"Ivysaur" Ivysaur said
Ash takes out his Pokédex and scans Hitmonchan
Ash's Pokédex: Hitmonchan, a skilled Fighting Pokémon that packs an incredibly fast punch.
"Alright. Let's capture it" Ash said "Ready Pikachu?"
Pikachu became surprised as his trainer wants him to battle Hitmonchan
"If you defeat Hitmonchan, you'll become the world champion Pokémon" Ash said
But Pikachu imagines himself being easily taken out by Hitmonchan. Pikachu becomes scared as he held onto Misty's leg
"I don't think Pikachu is up to it, Ash" Green said
"Don't worry, Green. I got this" Ash said before turning to Pikachu "You don't have to be afraid. I'll teach you my secret punch and no one will be able to beat you."
"Pikachu?" Pikachu asked curiously
"But Ash. Pikachu's not a Fighting Type" Jake points out
"I know that, Jake. But I want to teach Pikachu how to fight like one" Ash said before looking at Pikachu "You gotta learn the basics, first. Keep your left up, and jab with your right."
His friends watched as Ash teaches Pikachu how to fight
"Since when did Ash become a boxing expert?" Brock asked
"Beats me" Misty replied
"I'm starting to think that this is a bad idea" Green said
"I agree. I just hope Ash knows what he's doing" Jake added with worry
Ivysaur and Cubone also watched this with worry
After Ash's coaching session, he along with Pikachu went up to Hitmonchan. Pikachu is outfitted with boxing gloves on his hands
"Okay, Hitmonchan! Ready for a match?" Ash asked
Hitmonchan looks down on Pikachu and then shrugs him off
"Hitmonchan, Pikachu's gonna teach you a lesson! Pikachu, attack!" Ash ordered
"Pika!" Pikachu shouted
Brock holds up a bell while Misty hits it with a small hammer. Pikachu charges up to Hitmonchan
"That's it, Pikachu! Now, jab! Jab! Now give it the big uppercut!" Ash ordered
Unfortunately for Pikachu, he was held back by Hitmonchan's fist due to his small size. He was unable to get an attack in much to Ash's embarassment. Even Ivysaur and Cubone were embarassed as well. Hitmonchan even held Pikachu back with his foot as Pikachu continues to try to get an attack in
"It's no good. Pikachu's small size is putting him at a disadvantage" Jake replied
"Make Pikachu stop, Ash! This isn't even a fight!" Misty pleaded
"I agree. This is not working at all" Green added
"Pikachu, give it that special punch I just taught you!" Ash ordered
Pikachu then got all fired up much to the shock of Hitmonchan
"Give it the Rocket Punch!" Ash commanded
Pikachu fired it's boxing gloves at Hitmonchan. Everyone was surprised as they watched Pikachu flying straight at Hitmonchan. He then hits Hitmonchan right in the cheek with a right punch.
"Whoa!" Jake said in surprise
"He actually hit it!" Green added
"We did it!" cheered Ash
"They did?" Brock asked
"No way!" Misty yelled
"Saur!" Ivysaur yelled
"Bone" Cubone said in disbelief
Pikachu held up it's hand victoriously. Unfortunately, Pikachu's attack didn't seem to hurt Hitmonchan that much as he was rubbing his cheek. Hitmonchan was really mad which causes Pikachu to flinch.
"Uh oh" Green said
"That didn't seem to hurt to Hitmonchan" Jake said
"So much for the great Rocket Punch" Brock said
Just then, a man with a red towel comes up
"How many times do I have to tell ya? Don't drop your guard!" he lectured
"Chan" Hitmonchan replied
"Keep your gloves up, Hitmonchan, cause fighting smart hurts less than fighting stupid." the man encouraged
"Chan" Hitmonchan replied
"Now, go knock that pipsqueak out!" the man ordered
Hitmonchan did just that as it moves as fast as lightning which surprises the gang. He then begins to bombard Pikachu with some rapid punches.
'Now those are some impressive punches' Jake thought
Hitmonchan continue to attack Pikachu
"Pikachu!" Ash shouted
Hitmonchan then finishes it off with one final uppercut to the Mouse Pokémon. Pikachu then hits the ground
"KO" Jake commented
Ash rushes over and picks Pikachu up
"Pikachu, are you okay?" he asked
"Pika pika" Pikachu said as he was still in a daze
"I gotta admit. That Hitmonchan is really strong" Green said
" I declare Hitmonchan the winner! Congratulations! One, two, three.. HOORAY!" the man cried as he and Hitmonchan raised their arms up in victory
"I wonder who this guy is" Ash wondered
"He's a pretty serious trainer" Misty said
"Yeah. He acts like a real coach" Jake added
"I guess it wasn't wild" Brock added
"With training like that, you could be right" Green said
"Daddy!"
Everyone looks to see a young girl running in
" Daddy, please come home!" she pleaded
"Rebecca?" the man said in shock
"Daddy, please quit Pokémon training and come home with me!" the girl named Rebecca begged
The father looked at her until he said his answer
"I won't come home until I become champion of the P1 Grand Prix." he replied
"Daddy!" Rebecca yelled
"I'll be in the gym taking on challengers. The gym's that way. I'll be waiting for ya." the man said as he and Hitmonchan race off in the direction he was pointing
Rebecca looks down in sadness as her eyes fill with tears
"Talk about family issues" Jake commented
"Cubone" Cubone said
"Oh well" Rebecca said sadly
It was then that the gang and Rebecca noticed each other. Brock quickly comes up to her
"Can I be of help to you, young lady?" he asked
"I'm really sorry my father bothered you." Rebecca apologized
"No problem" Brock replied
"Can I ask a favor of you Pokémon trainers? A really, really big favor?" Rebecca asked
" Please feel free to ask. We'll be glad to help in any way possible." Brock said
"Thank you. Please, I want you to defeat my father's Hitmonchan." Rebecca said
The gang was confused
"Say what?" Jake asked
"We'll do it for ya!" Brock declared as he grabbed Rebecca's hands
The gang looked at each other in embarassment.
Rebecca led the gang to a building with a sign that said: Fighting Spirit. When they were inside, they all look to see some gym equipments
"The Fighting Spirit gym" Misty read the sign
"This sure doesn't look like an ordinary Pokémon gym." Ash said
"It's a different kind of gym, Ash" Jake said "This one is actually used for people that want to stay in shape"
Ivysaur and Cubone were amazed by the gym
Brock then noticed a poster on the wall
"What's the P1 Grand Prix?" he asked
"P1 is short for the Pokémon Number 1 Grand Prix. " Rebecca explained "It's a tournament for Fighting Pokémon"
"Wow. That's pretty neat" Green said
"Because my father wants to win the P1, he's training all the time and ignoring his family." Rebecca said sadly
'I sure am lucky my father is not like that' Jake thought
"So if we defeat that Hitmonchan, your dad will come to his senses and go back home?" Brock asked
"Right" Rebecca said
"Ha! Just leave it to us!" Brock declared
The gang was confused
"Leave it..." Ash began
"To us?" Misty finished
"We'll take care of it." Brock said
"But we don't have any Fighting Pokémon" Jake pointed out
"Ash, don't you have a fighting Pokémon we could use?" Brock asked
"What are you talking about?" Ash asked
"I think he's talking about Primeape. You remember, don't you?" Green said with worry
The gang thought back to when they encountered Primeape on their way to Celadon City. Ash's Charmander was brutally beaten by it, until he was able to defeat Primeape
"Yeah. Primeape should be able to do the job." Ash said with confidence
"And I've got Geodude. We'll both enter the tournament, and defeat that Hitmonchan!" Brock added
"But Geodude's a Rock type and they're weak against Fighting Type" Green pointed out
"Don't worry, Green. Geodude can do this" Brock replied
The gang then headed over to place where the P1 Grand Prix is being held.
"Ladies and gentlemen, our fighting Pokémon festival, the P1 Grand Prix is about to begin!" an announcer said
Misty, Green, Pikachu and Rebecca are sitting in the spectator's seats while Ash, Brock, Jake, Ivysaur, and Cubone are by the ring.
"The contestants in the P1 Grand Prix are about to enter the ring." the announcer continued
The door on the center of he ring opens and the man with his Hitmonchan appeared
"Introducing the number one contender, The Fighting Machine, Hitmonchan, and its trainer, Anthony!" the announcer said
A Hitmonlee then appeared
"Now, the challenger, The Kicking Fiend, Hitmonlee, along with its trainer, Giant!"
"Hitmonlee" Jake said as he takes out his Pokédex
Jake's Pokédex: Hitmonlee, the Kicking Pokémon. When kicking, the sole of its foot turns as hard as a diamond on impact and destroys its enemy.
Ash and Brock then appeared in the ring
"Now, ladies and gentlemen, two new Pokémon trainers competing here in their P1 debut! Please welcome, Ash and Brock!" the announcer said
"Go get em, guys!" Jake cheered
"Oh no! Not you again!" 'The Giant' said
The Giant quickly turns away as Ash looks at him
"Hey, Ash. What's the matter?" Brock asked
"Uh, nothing, I guess." Ash said
"Hmmmm" Jake hummed as he also thought he heard a familiar voice
Ash was facing off against a trainer with his Machop
"And now, for our first match! Machop is ready to battle, what Pokémon will Ash use to challenge it?" the announcer asked
With a turn of his cap, Ash takes out a Poké Ball
"I choose you! Primeape!" he said as he let's Primeape out
Primeape and Machop then faced each other in the ring. The wrestling bell was rung which signals the match to begin. Machop charges in and begins to attack Primeape with a series of chops which knocks Primeape back.
"Get up, Primeape!" Ash said
"It looks beat" Brock added
"For a little guy, that Machop sure is tough" Jake added
"Cubone" Cubone said in admiration
" And it looks like Machop has the advantage in the battle with Primeape! Machop may be small, but it sure packs plenty of power!" the announcer commented
"That's an understatement" Green said
Primeape recovers and leaps into the air. It then attempts to give Machop a kick, but Machop was able to catch Primeape's foot much to the shock of Ash, Brock, and Jake
"This looks bad!" Misty said
"I know" Green added
Machop then begins to swing Primeape around
"Machop's mega muscle power stops Primeape's kick cold! It looks like Machop is getting ready for its special attack!" the announcer said
"Special attack?" Ash asked before taking out his Pokédex
Ash's Pokédex: Machop. Its body is pure muscle. Its special attack is the Seismic Toss.
"Oh no! It's gonna toss Primeape!" Ash yelled
And just like that, Machop threw Primeape right out of the ring. Ash raced over to where Primeape was falling
"Primeape!" he yelled before falling down while Primeape lands on his back
The girls gasped at this
"Ash!" Jake yelled
"Ivysaur!" Ivysaur yelled
"Cubone!" Cubone yelled
Primeape was surprised that Ash would save it like that.
"Primeape, are you okay?" Ash asked
Primeape became teary eyed as it's trainers selfless act and decides to follow him
" Alright! Good! Now, we're not gonna quit!" Ash said determined
"Primeape!" Primeape agreed
'That's the spirit, buddy' thought Jake with a proud smile on his face
" Watch out for that Seismic Toss and give it everything you've got!" Ash said
"Primeape!" Primeape said
"That's amazing" Misty said
"What's amazing?" Rebecca asked
" Primeape use to do just what it wanted and never listened to anybody, but now it's taking orders from Ash." Misty explained
"And all it took was Ash saving Primeape's life" Green added
"Pika" Pikachu said
"Primeape, Scratch attack!" Ash ordered
Primeape charges in and scratches Machop
"Jump, Primeape!" Ash ordered
Primeape did just that
"Mega Kick, right now!" Ash yelled
Primeape dives down with it's foot out and delivers a Mega Kick at Machop knocking it out
"We did it!" Ash said victoriously
"Attaboy, Ash!" Jake cheered
Ivysaur and Cubone cheered for Ash and Primeape
"And this match is over! Machop is down and out! Ash's Primeape wins the battle!" the announcer said
Anthony and Hitmonchan were watching this
"That Primeape! It's really tough!" Anthony said
"Monchan" Hitmonchan added
"It seems like everything changed when Ash dove to save Primeape. That's when Primeape started to trust Ash." Misty said
"That's exactly what I said" Green added
"Pika pika" Pikachu said
After Ash and Primeape's victory, Brock's Geodude was now facing off against Hitmonlee
"Our next match is between Hitmonlee and Geodude. Fans, Geodude is as hard as a rock! Will Hitmonlee be able to crack Geodude?" the announcer asked
The bell rang to begin the match
"Rebecca! Don't worry! Everything's under control!" Brock called as he looks at Rebecca
"Brock! Watch out behind you!" she warned
Brock was confused until Geodude hits him in the head which knocks Brock down. Ivysaur and Cubone winced at this. It was revealed that Hitmonlee kicked Geodude out of the ring when Brock wasn't looking
"That's gotta hurt" Jake said
"You said it, Jake" Ash added
" This won't take very long." the Giant said
Brock then got up
"Geodude, this time, hit Hitmonlee!" he ordered
Geodude leaps back into the ring
"Don't show any mercy! Kick! Kick! Kick! Kick!" the Giant ordered
Hitmonlee begins to attack Geodude with a series of kicks. Geodude blocks the attacks while attempting to defend itself.
"Geodude's gonna get turned to gravel" Ash said before turning to Brock "Brock? Brock!"
"Come on, Brock. Do something! Geodude can't hold on much longer!" Jake yelled
"I warned him that Rock types are weak against Fighting types" Green sighed
Brock stood there not knowing what to do until Anthony hands him a red towel
"If you're a real man, you know when you have to admit defeat. Time to face facts, you can lose today and win tomorrow." he advised
"Right" Brock said as he takes the towel and throws it
" Fans, Brock has thrown in the towel!" the announcer said
Ash, Jake, and Brock rushed in the ring
"Geodude!" Brock cried as he picks his Pokémon up " I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
"Geo" Geodude replied
"You don't have to apologize. You gave it your best shot." Brock assured
"Dude" Geodude said
"Primeape and I will take care of things now, Brock." Ash said
"I'm counting on you, Ash" Brock said
"Right" Ash added
"Do your best out there, buddy" Jake said
"You got it, Jake" Ash said as they fist bumped each other
The P1 Grand Prix continued on as some Fighting Pokémon were taking each other out. A Machoke has beaten a Poliwrath. Anthony's Hitmonchan takes out a Machamp. Hitmonlee faces off against a Machoke while Ash's Primeape scratch attachs a Machamp. Jake, Misty, Ivsyaur, and Cubone cheered their friend on. It was then time for the next round as Anthony and Hitmonchan are facing off against the Giant and Hitmonlee
"Now, Ash and Primeape will advance to the final match, while the Fighting Spirit Gym's very own Hitmonchan, the number one contender in this tournament, takes on the legendary "Kicking Fiend", Hitmonlee for a chance at the championship!" the announcer declared
"Never thought I see two of these Fighting types facing off against each other" Jake said
"Me neither, bud" Ash added
"Keep on moving, keep on fighting! Remember, you're a champion!" Anthony coached
"Monchan" Hitmonchan replied
The bell rang to signal the fight
Hitmonchan rushes in with a blinding speed and attacks Hitmonlee with a punch only for the latter to block with his foot.
" Gotta be smart! Gotta be strong! Gotta keep moving!" Anthony said
Hitmonlee then delivers a series of kicks at Himtonchan, but Hitmonchan dodges each of them
"Hitmonlee's not landing any kicks!" the Giant said
Suddenly, something came up from under the ring and a puddle of glue appeared on the floor. Hitmochan's foot steps on it preventing him from moving. This allows Hitmonlee to deliver several kicks to Hitmonchan.
" Hitmonchan's in trouble! Hitmonlee's Mega Kick attack is getting the best of Hitmonchan!" the announcer commented
"What's going on?" Jake asked
"Hitmonchan!" Anthony yelled
"This is dangerous! You should forfeit the match right now!" Brock said
"Finish it, Hitmonlee!" the Giant ordered
Just as Hitmonlee was about to finish Hitmonchan off, Rebecca rushes into the ring and leaps it front of Hitmonchan
" Stop it! Don't hurt my father's Pokémon!" she yelled
"Rebecca!" Anthony yelled
Ash, Brock, and Jake were shocked. Just as Hitmonlee's attack could reach her, Anthony took the hit as he got in front of his daughter much to boys shock. Anthony was then knocked into a corner. The boys went up to him
"Are you alright, sir?" Jake asked
" I'm fine, don't worry about me." Anthony assured
"Oh, daddy" Rebecca said teary eyed
"Are you hurt, Rebecca?" Anthony asked
"No, I'm fine?" his daughter answered
"I'm glad" Anthony said "I give up!"
As Anthony said that, he threw in the red towel
" Anthony throws in the towel! Hitmonlee is the winner!" the announcer declared
'Anthony may be defeated, but the match didn't seem fair' Green thought with a frown
Anthony then helped Hitmonchan out of the ring
"Ah, good work, Hitmonchan. Are you okay?" he asked
"Monchan" Hitmonchan replied
"I'm sorry I worried you and your mother so much." Anthony said to his daughter
"Oh, Daddy" Rebecca said as she hugs her father
"That's my girl" he said
"Isn't that great" Ash said
"The family's back together" Brock added
"It sure is a touching moment" Jake added
Ivysaur and Cubone smiled as they watched this
"That means we're up against Hitmonlee." Ash said
"That's right" Brock said
Misty, Pikachu, and Green came up to them
"Your battling brought them back together. And now, all Ash needs to do is win one more time to be champion." Misty said
"Pika" Pikachu said
"Don't bet on it!"
This surprises the gang
"Who said that?" Green asked
The gang looks to see the Giant coming up to them
"I can't wait for the chance to show you five goody-goodies what losers you are! You don't stand a chance against us. We're going to win that championship belt!" Jessie said
" And when we do, you can find us at the all-you-can-eat buffet table!" James said as he stuck his head out from the trench coat
"Will you be quiet!" Jessie yelled as she hits James in the head
"It's them again!" Ash yelled
"Team Rocket!" Misty added
"How did you ever guess?" Jessie asked
"I don't know. Maybe it's the fact that we always know what you look like every time we meet" Jake said
"Ivysaur!" Ivysaur growled
"Bone!" Cubone yelled
Jessie removes the trench coat to reveal that James was carrying Jessie over his shoulders. James was struggling to hold on
"To protect the world from devastation!"
"To unite all peoples within our nation!"
"To denounce the evils of truth and love!"
"To extend our reach to the st.. I can't take it!"
"Team Rocket, blast off at the speed of light!"
"Surrender now.. Surrender now, or prepare to.. Prepare to f.."
James couldn't hold on anymore and slowly collapse. Ash and Jake look at each other
"Uh, we're not finished." Jessie said embarassed
The two Team Rocket members then got back up
"As I was saying, we're going to be the winners around here!" Jessie said
"And you can bet your buffet on that!" James added
"I guess we'll have to see now won't we!" Jake retorted
"What he said!" Ash added
It was now the final round of the G1 Grand Prix
"And now, for the final confrontation!" the announcer said "Primeape, a newcomer who battled to this last round with tremendous attacks.."
Primeape charges in
"Faces the ferocious footwork of Hitmonlee, the Kicking Fiend! Get ready, fans, for a match you'll never forget!" the announcer declared
Hitmonlee came in with a series of kicks at Primeape. The Pig Monkey Pokémon defended itself. The gang, Anthony, Ivysaur, Cubone, and Rebecca watched this
"You can't just defend yourself, Primeape! Attack!" Ash ordered
"If you can't get inside Hitmonlee's kicks, you'll never win the battle!" Anthony added
"You can do it, Primeape! Fight through it!" Jake added
"Primeape, get in there and show Hitmonlee that you're not afraid!" Ash yelled
Primeape charges in and dodges a kick from Hitmonlee.
"You did it!" Brock yelled
"Alright!" Ash yelled
"You go, Primeape!" Green added
Ivysaur and Cubone cheered for Primeape. Primeape then unleashed a series of punches on Hitmonlee
"What are you doing?!" Jessie yelled
"Kick it! Kick it!" James yelled
Meowth then came out from under the ring which Pikachu noticed. Pikachu scurried back to the trainers. He then attempts to get Ash's attention.
"Pika. Pika pi" Pikachu said as he pulled at Ash's pants
"What is it, Pikachu?" Ash asked
"Pikachu! Pikachu! Pika Pi!" Pikachu attempts to explain
" Look, I don't have time for this now, okay?" Ash said before turning his attention to Primeape "Hang in there, Primeape!"
Jake just took notice of this and kneels down to Pikachu
"Pikachu, is there something wrong?" he asked
Seeing that Jake is willing to listen, Pikachu begins to explain to him in his own language
"Is there something under the wrestling ring?" he asked
Pikachu nods his head
"Then let's check it out" Jake said
They went under the ring and then noticed a device with an R on it.
"Is this what you were trying to warn Ash about?" Jake asked
"Pika" Pikachu said with a nod
Jake then takes the device and examines it.
"Hmmm. Must be some kind of device that shocks anyone. Team Rocket must be using it to try to cheat" he deduced
"Pika pika" Pikachu said
Jake then smiled mischievously as he gets an idea
"Well we can fix that" he said
"Pika pika" Pikachu replied as he agrees with him
Jake then sends out his own Pikachu
"Pikachu, I need you and Ash's Pikachu to supercharge this device with your Thundershock. Can you do that?" he asked
Both Pikachus agreed and Jake placed the device on the ground allowing the two mouse Pokémon to zap it. Back out in the ring, Hitmonlee leaps onto one of the ring post.
"Hit it!" Jessie yelled
"You got it" James said as he presses a button on a remote
But nothing happened
"Nothing's happening." Jessie said
"Something's wrong?" Meowth asked
Hitmonlee leaps into the air while Primeape did the same. Just then, Primeape grabs Hitmonlee much to Team Rocket's shock.
"Primeape got him!" Green said
"Alright! Use the Seismic Toss, now, Primeape!" Ash commanded
"Oh no!" Jessie and James cried
"This is bad!" Meowth yelled
Primeape then slammed Hitmonlee down on the ring hard which knocks the Kicking Pokémon out
"We did it!" Ash shouted
"And it's all over! Primeape defeats Hitmonlee with a Seismic Toss! Ash's Primeape wins by a knockout! Primeape is the new P1 Pokémon Grand Prix Champion!" the announcer said
The gang and the audience cheered for Primeape's victory. Primeape was even awarded the P1 Grand Prix Champion Belt while Ash and Brock are with him on the ring
"It's prime time for Primeape!" Ash said
" Primeape! Primeape! " Primeape yelled
"I'm proud of you, Primeape. Congratulations." Ash said proudly
Anthony then came up to Ash and Primeape
"Ash, the Primeape has got a lot of natural fighting talent." he said
"You think so?" Ash asked
"Why don't you let me train it for a while? I promise to turn it into a real P1 Champion!" Anthony offered
"A true P1 Champion?" Ash asked
Back with Team Rocket,
"What went wrong, Meowth!?" Jessie demanded
"What happened to our secret weapon?!" James added
Jake and the Pikachus came up from under the ring
"I believe this is yours" Jake said as he hands Meowth the device
"Here it is! It looks like it works." Meowth said
"Hope you get a good charge out of this" Jake said as he and the Pikachus walks away
" Really appreciate it." Meowth said
"Wait. What did he mean when he said we'll get a good charge out of this?" James wondered
Suddenly, the device activates and unleashes a big electrical shockwave of 20,000 volts on the Team Rocket trio due to the Pikachus supercharging it. It then explodes sending Team Rocket flying out of the stadium.
"Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
With the P1 Grand Prix over, it was time for the gang to hit the road. They were saying goodbye to Anthony, Rebecca, and Primeape. Ash and Primeape held each other's hands before letting go.
"Please take care of Primeape. I'm counting on you." Ash said
"There's no need to worry. You can depend on me." Anthony assured
"And I'll make sure that father spends lots of time with our family." Rebecca added
"That's great Rebecca. Family is always important" Jake said
Ivysaur and Cubone both nodded as they too understood this
" You keep on training and winning, Primeape. And I'll always be grateful and proud that I knew a real P1 champion." Ash said
The gang then said their goodbyes as they walked on the road to their next destination.
'Until we meet again, Primeape' Jake thought as he looked back at Primeape one last time.
