Around 30 years later...

Rey made her way down off the mountain top cave she lived in and looked out to the raging ocean. It matched the dreary gray clouded sky, always prepared to rain on the equally dreary gray rocks. She donned her black cloak to keep herself warm as she stepped outside.

At the bottom of the rocky hill, she made her way over to the village the locals lived in. The Jakkuians were tiny furry creatures, only standing up to her knees, who had no ears or proper vocal cords to speak. Instead they used dance to communicate. They had their own societies and trading posts on the small island, and even built their own boats for worldwide travel, but never took up intergalactic travel.

Rey on the otherhand was a regular human looking young woman, making it quite obvious she wasn't originally from there. She made her way down to the market as she always did, looking for spare parts for different deep space ships and her weaponized rei gun.

Back on top of the mountain later, she searched the sky for ships passing by and it was just her luck, she spotted one! She aimed the laser and blasted it. Solid hit!

The ship stopped suddenly, and slowly fell down into the atmosphere. She used the laser to guide it to her island. There was no chance she was going to let is fall into the vast ocean of Jakku.

Once it crashed into the ground, she grabbed her weapon and ran to the crash site. It didn't take long for an older man to step out, confused.

"Don't move, old man!" Rey threatened from behind him, "Turn around slowly. If you give me all your credits you won't get hurt!"

Unbeknownest to Rey, the old man was Luke Skywalker. He slowly turned around, not frightened by any means, but did so only out of curiousity. He turned to see Rey, a petite teenager with dark hair, pale skin, and dark eyes. She stood with a blue lightsaber ready to swing up by her neck behind her head. Her face said she meant business, but her stance said otherwise.

He asked calmly, "Are you attempting to rob me?"

"Yes!" she said, "One wrong move and it's over for you, old man! Hand over your credits now!"

Luke put his hands up and said, "One wrong move and you'll cut off your own ear. Careful! You're not getting anyone's credits with a stance like that. Here. One foot in front of the other and move your lightsaber away from your neck so you don't cut your own hair off. There." He helped move her limbs.

She quickly pointed the saber at him but he pulled out his own green one and blocked it seemlessly.

Rey gasped, "You're a real jedi?"

"And you're not?"

"No!" she confessed, "I got this lightsaber from a trader for less than 100 credits a few years ago. He had no idea what it was."

Although Luke had been putting together a new jedi order for years, his new group didn't have the experience or the funding to traverse the entire galaxy like the days of old. He knew most people had never seen a jedi in person, only heard of what Luke was doing through rumors. He asked, "And how do you know what a lightsaber is?"

She took a step back away from him and answered sadly, "My dad had a purple one when I was little."

"Then you must by Rey."

"N-no," she stuttered, then looked him over carefully, "but I know her. Why? Who's asking?"

"Luke Skywalker."

She went wide eyed. Why would such a legend want her? "I'm Rey," she finally confessed.

He replied paitently, "I know."

"But how?"

He explained, "I've seen you in visions. The force wanted me to find you. As for why, I'm not completely sure but I have a few guesses and it brought me here to Jakku and crashed my ship for a reason."

Rey cringed. "Your ship crashing here was my fault, actually, apologies." Luke stared at her, confused. "I built my own laser that can sense and take out a starship going by through the cloud cover. From there I either rob the people aboard of their credits, or I show them my collection of scrap parts they can buy from me and fix their ship and leave." She hesitated. "I don't think 'the force' had anything to do with you crashing here after all."

Luke took a look around at their surroundings. The sky was misty, the ocean water reflected it's grey, the grey rocks went out to shore with only pitiful patches of grass covered the island. Although he could put together an answer for himself, he asked, "Why are you shooting down starships and robbing people?"

"I'm trying to save up for pilot lessons and get a starship myself," she answered quickly, changing the subject she added, "you can repair your ship with whatever I have and leave whenever you want."

As she turned to walk away, Luke said, "Rey, I came here because the force has told me you need to be trained in the ways of a jedi. You already have a lightsaber." He pulled it out of her hands with the force.

"Hey!"

He examined it. "This is mine," he paused, "actually, it was originally my father's. You added your own little doodads to it." Instead of the perfectly gray hilt he had before, Rey had painted red hearts on it, glued on some sort of shiney rocks, and added little beaded trinkets that jingled at the end when he moved it.

"I bedazzeled it," Rey said, "But it was yours? How did you lose it?"

"It's a long story," he replied, handing it back to her, "but it's yours now, Rey, you only need to learn how to use it."

Confused, she asked, "Use it? To do what?"

Luke knew he had too much explaining to do. "You're supposed to be a jedi, Rey, that's why I had a vision of training you to be able to commune with the force. You said your father has a lightsaber. Did something happen to him? What about your mother?"

She stepped away from him. "They're fine."

"But where are they?" he asked innocently.

Rey couldn't even look at him. "I'm sorry I crashed your ship," she said, "if you need any parts let me know."

Luke insisted, "I'm not here to kidnap you, I promise. You're carrying a weapon you have no idea how to use, that's a recipe for disaster. All I'm here to do is teach you how to weild a lightsaber."

Hopeful, she asked, "You'll stay here and do it?"

"No," he explained, "you get to come to the jedi temple with me on Naboo."

She took a deep breath and considered it for a moment. The legendary Luke Skywalker showed up out of nowhere and suddenly wanted to train her. Was it too good to be true? It seemed so. She shook her head. "I'm stay here, Master Skywalker, sorry to disappoint the force or whoever sent you here to find me."

With that Luke let her walk away. He knew he couldn't force her to become a jedi against her will. He turned and walked back to his ship, fixed the parts needed, and went off on his own.

It wasn't even an hour later when Rey sat outside the entrance to her cave home and stared up at the sky. For once, the clouds were beginning to break apart and she could see blue. She contemplated her decision. Should she have left and gone to Naboo?

Then, she spotted it, gray streaks moving above the atmosphere. Something wasn't right. There were never this many ships passing by Jakku. She figured she must be on the far side of the galaxy most people don't bother to go since she only ever shot down deep space pilots passing by.

It didn't take long for her to realize these ships weren't merely going passed, they were getting closer. She wondered aloud to no one, "What is going on?"

Unfortunately, she soon found out.

Nearly a hundred starships entered the galaxy through the clouds, all at the same time. Rey retreated into her cave and grabbed her binoculars. The airships immediately began landing around the only real town on the island, full of the local Jakkuians. Others spread out to other parts of the planet, across the ocean. Rey set up near the top of the hill and zoomed in on her binoculars.

She was too far away to hear anything, but she watched as they marched around, clearly barking orders at the unsuspecting Jakkuians. While she hated that they were getting abused, she was too scared to do anything. It wasn't as though she could fight.

Instead, Rey headed back toward her cave until two ships fought in the sky directly above her. Then she drove in and carefully peaked outside to see them dogfight in the sky. It was the same ship Luke Skywalker had left on earlier.

Rey held her breath as she saw them flip and twist in the air over and around each other. As she hid on the edge of her cave she secretly wished she could do something like that. Then the blasting started. It reigned down not just from those two ships, but from the hundreds of others that decended from space.

Luke Skywalker's ship shot the other ship away and then landed not-so-gracefully outside of Rey's cave. She ran inside and hid.

"Rey!" he called out. She didn't move. "Rey I can sense you're in there!"

From inside, she asked, "What are you still doing here?"

"You have to leave now," he said, finally making it to the entrance of her cave dwelling.

She showed herself. "You know what those people want?"

"They call themselves the First Order," he explained, "they're a gang who have been recruiting systems for years and they finally have enough members to reach this place and convert everyone. It isn't safe for you here."

"Can't you do something to help to Jakkuians?"

"The People's Republic don't have juristiction out here," he said hastily, glancing around, "and I'm one man, Rey. Even as a jedi I can't take out 1,000 starships." He looked at the sky worringly. "More are coming. We have to go now if we want to make it out of here!"

"I-" Rey couldn't bring herself to say it.

Luke stepped inside the cave and said, "I know you're scared. Choices like this are hard. I wish the First Order wasn't trying to revive the old empire but here we are. It's now or never, Rey."

Explosions went off in the distance. She knew she didn't have a choice. She grabbed a bag to shove full of her things and left her cave for the last time ever.

Luke opened his small starship doors for Rey and said, "Welcome aboard." He let her in and showed her to the bridge.

"Wow," she said nervously, having never been in a ship that size before.

"You made it," a deep robotic sounding voice came from a dark corner.

"AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Rey nearly jumped out of her skin and screamed at the top of her lungs. When she composed herself she shouted, "What are you doing hiding over there?!" She turned to see Luke was completely unphased.

"Rey is this my father, Anakin Skywalker," he said calmly.

Anakin said, "She can't be force sensitive, Luke, she would have sensed me sitting here."

Rey looked the man over. He was drapped in a back and red suit and wore a mask over his mouth, but she could see his eyes clearly and even saw pieces of dark blonde hair peaking through. She was too distracted by his body to notice any of his face however. It felt to her he was more machine than man.

Luke asked, "Is that why you're hiding in the shadows over there? To test her?" He didn't bother waiting for an answer, and turned to Rey. "Don't let him scare you. He's practically harmless."

"Harmless?" Anakin laughed in his deep electronic voice at the thought, "Only when I feel like it."

Luke replied, "You better feel like it! Let's hurry and get out of here before we're spotted again." He took his seat quickly, and Rey sat down behind him. She noted the droid in the corner. R2.

Meanwhile, Luke hastily prepared the ship for take off. Once they were in the air, Rey watched as the grey cloudy sky turned to dark, stars came to view, and then the blue lightspeed lights glow through the windows. She whispered to herself, "Whoa. It's beautiful."

Together the three of them made their way across the galaxy. It was long journey and they thought they were safe until the screens in front of them suddenly lit up and showed they were surrounded, even while in hyperspace.

"It's the First Order again," Luke said, "hold on Rey, this is going to get messy."

Anakin said, "I didn't realize they had this many in number. Do they know who we are?"

"I don't think they care," he replied, "from what I can sense it feels like they're excited to attack anyone who isn't affiliated with them. They have our coordinates and life scans. If we keep going they're going to follow us all the way to Naboo."

Anakin said, "We'll have reinforcements on Naboo. Keep our heading."

No sooner as he said that, did the first strikes attempt to attack them through hyperspace. Rey screamed as the ship rocked in lightspeed. "Are we in danger?!" she asked, terrified.

"How are they hitting us in hyperspace?!" Luke asked, taking control of the ship.

"They must have new technology," Anakin said, "change of plans, we're stopping and changing course. R2!"

The ship left hyperspace and they were immediately surrounded by the first order fleet. Rey asked, terrified, "What do they want!?"

"Trouble," Luke said, "R2, set a course for-" He stopped as the first order fired their first rounds.

Anakin said, "It's my airship, Luke, hand over control!"

Luke shifted control over to him and said, "You know we're under strict orders from the senate not to engage them."

"They shot first," he replied, flying them out of danger. He manuvered around the fleet fast, and managed to sneak past their largest ships and dodged most of the the fire they were under. Still, even with all his fancy flying, the right side of the ship was hit hard. Their stablizers were busted, and in seconds they were spinning out of control to a nearby planet.

Rey held on for dear life and tried not to scream as she shut her eyes in sheer terror.

"We're entering an atmosphere!" Anakin said.

"Brace yourself, Rey, this is going to be rough!" Luke exclaimed.

She held on to her seat tight as the scenery changed from sky to blue atmosphere and then BAM! They hit a massive sand dune and the ship rolled to a stop onto it's side. Anakin said, "Don't tell me."

Luke replied calmly, "According to the scanners this is Tatooine."

When they finally came to a stop in bright hot yellow sand, Rey finally opened her eyes and couldn't believe the sight. She had never seen such brightness before.

"Out of all the star systems we could have crashed in," Anakin said angrily, "why did it have to be this one?"

"Welcome home, Dad," Luke snarked. R2 beeped happily.

Rey marveled at the sand, "Wherever we are, it's goregous!" Never before had she seen such bright gold against a beautiful azure of a sky, and this stretched out miles in every direction.

"You don't mean that," Anakin growled.

Luke explained, "Rey, Tatooine is a desert wasteland of a planet no one cares about, not the new People's Republic, not the First Order, not even the empire back in the day or the old republic from before then." He looked at his father, who didn't bother returning his glance.

"Hurry and get this thing back into space already," he commanded. Just as he said that, a piece of the wing fell off.

It didn't take long for Luke to discover they couldn't immediately restart the engines and take off. He came out from behind the side engine and said, "Our power converters are shot. I hope whatever town is nearby has a pair we need otherwise we're going to be here for a while."

"We're going to visit a town?" Rey asked, excited.

Anakin asked, "You're sure it can't be repaired?"

Luke showed him a broken one in his hand and said, "No and I don't see why we should all go into town."

"I'll stay here," Anakin said walking back into the ship with his exaggerated gait.

"I'd like to go with you, Master Skywalker," Rey said anxiously.

Luke said, "It takes one person to buy a starship part, Rey. Stay with my father."

"But he's terrifying."

"He's not going to hurt you."

Rey said, "But I'd like to see get to know at least a few people on this planet."

Luke asked, "Why?" He paused and waited for her thoughts. "Your thoughts are on your parents. What about them?"

She took a deep breath and confessed, "I'd like to look for them."

"What do you mean? You don't know where they are?"

"I barely remember what they look like," she explained sadly, "I had just turned 4-years-old the last time I saw them. My father left me on Jakku 13 years ago and I have no idea why. One day I had parents and the next I was alone."

Luke asked, "Where are you from originally?"

"I don't know!" she said hastily, "I don't know anything about them. All I know is my father must have been some sort of jedi because he had a purple lightsaber and one of the only things I remember about my mother is she liked my hair styled like this. I hope if they see me again they'll recognize me as they daughter they abandoned." She couldn't even look at him.

He said gently, "Rey, they're not going to be in some tiny town in the middle of nowhere on this terrible planet run by the Hutts. Stay with the starship."

She faced him and huffed. "Fine."

"You really don't know your parents?" he asked. She shook her head. In order to lighten the mood, he added, "Do yourself a favor and don't make out with anyone before getting a DNA test. You could be related to them."

Anakin shouted from inside the starship, "That was Obi-wan's fault! I thought you were dead!...Didn't even know Leia existed."

Rey asked, "What? Did something happen?"

"It's nothing," he said, "stay here, I'll be back as soon as I can be. R2 stay with them!"

He beeped and sadly rolled back into the ship.
