Class 1-A spent a few days recovering from their fight with Mirio. Classes continued as normal, but training started off slow but then started to ramp back up. Several students praised Danny for his fight against the Big 3, while Bakugo, who found out about the fight, was jealous.
One morning, Aizawa called Class 1-A to the common area. Minus Danny as he got up early and disappeared. Izuku was curious as to where Danny was.
Aizawa announced, "Today, a reporter is coming to write an article for their newspaper."
Class 1-A was shocked, "A newspaper?"
Aizawa nodded, "Yeah. They wanna do a feature on your class for some reason."
Ochaco gushed, "Isn't that amazing, Deku?"
Deku nodded, but he blushed as she got so close to him.
Kaminari commented, "That's kinda surprising, huh?"
Kirishima shrugged, "Uh, not really."
Oijiro added, "Yeah, I mean, the sports festival was on TV."
Toru said, "We've gotta look super cute in case they wanna take our picture."
Mina cheered, "For sure!"
Jiro sighed, "I think you'll look just fine, Hagakure."
"That's enough!" Aizawa got the students' attention back. "It's nothing too exciting. The article's about how you're settling in, adjusting to dorm life, that kinda thing. Principal Nezu thought it would be a good idea. This'll show your guardians and parents that you're happy here. I expect you all to be on your best behavior today."
The reporter, Tokuda, walked over, "Don't worry on my account, Mr. Aizawa. I wanna get a feel for what dorm life is really like, so there's no need for them to act any differently than normal."
Aizawa turned to Tokuda, "I didn't say you could come in yet."
Tokuda replied, "I was told I had from 8 AM to 6 PM. So unless my watch is wrong."
Aizawa sighed as Tokuda turned to Class 1-A, "Hello, everyone, my name is Teneo Tokuda. I'm looking forward to learning more about you all."
Class 1-A replied, "Nice to meet you."
Tokuda continued, "Now, as I said, you don't need to do anything special. Just go about your day as you normally would. The camera will do most of the work. I might ask an occasional question or two, and I hope you'll answer."
He then smiled which made some of the girls to squeal.
Tokuda then said to Aizawa, "Principal Nezu has probably already spoken to you about this, but I wanna make sure you don't interfere in any way. No offense."
Aizawa replied, "I understand. If you need anything, just let me know."
Tokuda said, "I'm sure I'm in very capable hands. This is Class 1-A, after all. Every student here is a promising hero candidate."
Aizawa turned to Momo and Tenya, "Yaoyorozu, Iida, if there's a problem, let me know immediately. Got it?"
Tenya replied, "Of course, sir! As co class rep, I will carry out my duty to ensure the safety of all my fellow students, no matter what!"
Momo asked, "Mr. Aizawa, where's Danny?"
Aizawa answered, "Fenton is with his government assigned hero today. He won't be back until later."
Izuku thought, "That means he's with All Might today. I wonder why."
Tokuda then asked, "So, Fenton won't be back until later? Interesting. Anyway, what would you normally be doing this time of day?"
Tenya answered, "Having breakfast!"
Tokuda chuckled, "No need to be so formal. Just pretend that I'm not here."
Aizawa thought, "I can tell this reporter is up to something. Doesn't feel criminal, though. I'll leave him to it, for now."
Tokuda started taking photos of Class 1-A throughout the day, as he was actually narrowing down who All Might's successor is.
Meanwhile, Danny and All Might were in the Ghost Zone doing some training with Frostbite and Fright Knight. All Might was still amazed with everything in the Ghost Zone.
He looked over at Phantom clashing with the Fright Knight. Frostbite was standing next to All Might, "The Great One is doing great with his training. He'll be ready for the throne in no time."
All Might then asked, "So, are all ghosts supportive of Young Fenton taking the throne?"
Frostbite answered, "Most of them. Originally, many of the ghosts were against it as they were ones who fought the Great One all the time. But after….the incident….many of them switched over and are now in favor of the Great One taking the throne."
All Might said, "Danny does seem to have plenty of experience compared to most pro heroes. I guess him fighting all those rogue ghosts gave him that experience. But it must have been hard to do that all by himself."
Frostbite shook his head, "Not true. He had his friends to help him. Tucker and Sam, along with his sister. They were always there to help the Great One."
All Might looked over at Danny, "That's surprising. He really doesn't talk about his friends often."
Frostbite said, "He cares deeply for his friends. But I understand. The Great One's past holds sad memories for him."
All Might realized, "Then that's why. It's hard for him to talk about them. I can relate."
Meanwhile, Fright Knight had pinned Phantom down. "Give up yet?"
Phantom replied with glowing green eyes, "Never." He then blasted Fright Knight back.
The old ghost then chuckled, "Good on you, Your Highness. I think that wraps up training for today. You are one step closer to claiming the throne."
Phantom sighed as he pulled out the Ring of Rage, "But I'm no closer to being able to wear this without passing out or becoming corrupt."
Fright Knight replied, "Yes, I can understand your worry, Your Highness. But don't worry. You will know when the time is right to take on its power. The time will come. And I sense it's soon."
"How soon?" Phantom asked.
Fright Knight answered, "Like I said, you'll know."
All Might looked at his watch, "It's almost night time back home. We should probably get back before your curfew."
Phantom nodded, "Agreed. I wonder what my classmates have been up to all day."
Indeed, Class 1-A were followed around all day by Tokuda, while the reporter was narrowing down who All Might's successor was. He narrowed it down to those who participated in the sports festival finals. He eliminated Bakugo first as Bakugo wanted to surpass All Might, not succeed him. With Shoto, he knew Endeavor would never allow his son to surpass him. Kirishima, Tokoyami, Momo, Ochaco, and Tenya were out as they were on their own course. They narrowed it down to Izuku and Danny.
Tokuda saw Izuku training just outside the dorm. He had a feeling that Izuku was the successor. Danny, maybe, but Tokuda felt that Danny was on his own path. Given what he heard Stain say to him during that broadcast and how Danny was able to fight alongside All Might recently. Danny didn't need to succeed All Might as he was already on the same level as the former number one hero, maybe even beyond that.
Outside, Izuku was working on his training when All Might and Danny walked up to him. "Hey."
Izuku beamed at both of them, "It's good to see you two. What have you two been up to?"
All Might answered, "Nothing much. We just got back from some…..training…for Young Fenton here. I have to keep an eye on him in order to keep those higher ups off his back. I was starving afterwards so we stopped to grab a bite. Which turned into a whole thing."
"Yeah," Danny added. "That employee was a little too obsessed with All Might. Gave him free food by the loads."
"Anyway," All Might continued. "I brought these extra buns for your class."
Izuku said, "Of course you did. Always thinking of others, huh? With how popular you are, I'm surprised you're not mobbed everywhere you go. As the number one hero, you brought hope and smiles to so many peoples' lives. Protecting citizens and fighting against evil villains. The Symbol of Peace."
All Might then said as he put his hand on Izuku's shoulder, "Now it's your turn. Yours, Fenton's, and the rest of your class. Now, you will join Fenton tomorrow on an intense training regiment starting tomorrow."
Izuku nodded, "Yes, I'm ready."
All Might then turned and walked away.
Tokuda walked outside, "Getting late. Squeezing in one last workout?"
Izuku nodded as Danny asked, "Um, who are you?"
Tokuda introduced himself, "I'm a reporter doing a story on your class. I've been waiting for you to get back from whatever you were doing. You must be Danny Fenton. Now, something smells good."
Danny held up the bag, "Yeah, meat buns. Want one?"
Tokuda nodded and the three sat down as Tokuda talked about his admiration of All Might.
Izuku asked, "So, you're a huge All Might fan, too, Mr. Tokuda?"
Tokuda nodded, "My dad was one of them. All Might saved my father's life. The blaze was so bad that the rescue squads couldn't get close. And yet, All Might arrived and saved him. I turned on my camera without thinking. And the picture I took ended up in the paper. It seemed like a miracle my father was rescued. Seeing All Might that night brought a spark to my life. One that I still carry with me."
Izuku nodded, "Yeah. I get what you mean."
Tokuda continued, "So when I heard he was retiring, I was completely shocked. What will happen to our superhuman society in the future? Will we be OK?"
Izuku realized what Tokuda was talking about. Danny did too.
Tokuda then pulled out a photo, "We still have hope. It's your turn." The photo showed All Might putting his hand on Izuku's shoulder with Danny standing next to them.
Izuku was freaking out, "What? A picture? But I didn't see a camera! And, how'd you print it anyway?"
Tokuda answered, "It turns out my Quirk is a pretty handy one to have when you work in journalism."
Suddenly a camera lens popped out of his hand. Danny cringed, "OK, that's gross."
But Izuku said, "Oh, look at that! So cool!"
Suddenly more camera lenses popped out all over his arm, making Danny cringe more.
Tokuda explained, "I can produce them anywhere." Some even popped out of his legs and his face.
The lenses disappeared and Tokuda stood up, "Everybody heard All Might's last words after the Kamino incident. And I think he was saying that to you, Midoriya. And to you, Fenton, to a lesser extent. My investigations found plenty of similarities between you two, Midoriya. Your Quirk manifests like his. And in middle school, you tried to rescue Bakugo when he was captured by a villain, despite the odds. Fenton, you stepped in to save them both despite the risks, and then All Might was the one to save all three of you. And after you enrolled at UA High at the same time, he became a teacher here. I visited the Pussycats' agency. I met Kota there."
Izuku asked, "You talked to him?"
Tokuda nodded, "That's when my suspicions were truly confirmed. Midoriya. I believe you are All Might's successor. What do you think about that?"
Izuku started to stutter as Danny's eyes glowed green with anger, "Leave him alone."
Tokuda chuckled, "Whoa, calm down, ghosty. I can tell that he can't lie. That's good. After all, heroes speak the truth. But you don't have to worry. I'm not writing an expose, even if I did have the evidence. To be honest, I should be apologizing to you. You see, I was never planning to report on dorm life. I apologize. But I had to know. That there's still some light in the world. I feel better. After our conversation here. And now I can encourage others. I won't be lying when I write that there's still hope in the world, even if All Might has retired. I'm sorry if I caused you any stress. But, thank you."
He held out his hand and Izuku took it, but then Tokuda took a quick selfie shot of himself and Izuku. Danny sighed in frustration.
Tokuda started to walk away, "I'm gonna cherish this picture. I'll keep it under wraps until later. When I publish my book about you. I think I even settled on a good title. When the New Symbol of Peace Was Young. What do you think?"
Izuku smiled, "I'll try my best. And I'll live up to that name."
Tokuda chuckled, "I'm sure you will. Hero." He then turned and walked away.
Izuku turned to Danny, "See. Everything's fine. Let's go in for dinner."
Danny replied, "You go on ahead. I'll be in soon."
Izuku nodded then went inside.
Danny ran to catch up to Tokuda, "Wait. You really aren't going to write about this?"
Tokuda shook his head, "Nope. Secret's safe with me. Like I said, I just needed to know that the world was in good hands. And they are. Including you."
Danny asked, "Why wasn't I considered to be All Might's successor?"
Tokuda answered, "Because you have your own path. Not follow someone else's like Midoriya. Besides, I did hear what Stain told you. How you are meant for more than this world. And I think he's right, in a sense. You are definitely going to become a pro hero one day, but I feel that there's something else you're meant to be. What that is I don't know. Maybe a king, who knows? But I kid. Don't worry, even though I have suspicions about you, I'm not going to go digging into you. You've already proven your worth to the world. Just go and focus on your goals for the future. Whatever they may be. Hero. King. Whatever you are meant to be."
Tokuda then walked away as Danny stood there. "What a weird guy. But insightful, I guess."
