Danny and Izuku were called into their work study, and they walked out of the dorms to find Kirishima. He said, "Uh, Midoriya, Fenton! Good morning. Are you two headed off to your work study, too? Cool, so am I."
Izuku nodded, "Yeah, we finally got called in again. Feels like it's been forever."
Danny added, "Yeah, since I have to give something to Sir Nighteye. But I wonder why we aren't supposed to wear our costumes, though."
Ochaco and Tsuyu walked out of the dorms. Ochaco said, "Oh, good morning, guys! You going in today?"
Izuku nodded, "Yeah."
Tsuyu said, "Huh, so are we. That's kinda weird."
It got even weirder. Other pro heroes were going to the same station as them. Also, everyone was going the same way, same train, same station. When they got to the meeting place, the Big Three were there as well. When they all walked into the building, there were multiple heroes there, even Aizawa and Gran Torino.
Nejire asked, "Hey, what's the scoop? What's going on? Talk to me, Ryukyu! I mean, I know you said there's a meeting, but what's it about?"
The dragoon hero replied, "Patience, Nejire."
Ochaco walked over to Aizawa, "You, too, Mr. Aizawa?"
Tsuyu added, "I'm confused. Why are you here?"
Aizawa answered, "I was called in at the last minute for this thing. I think I've got a rough idea of what it's about."
Ryukyu turned around and saw Nighteye standing in the front. "We're all here, Nighteye. Let's get started."
Nighteye stepped forward, "Thanks to the information provided by all of you, our investigation has progressed substantially. We've invited you here for a joint conference to share the intel we've acquired. Regarding the yakuza group Shie Hassaikai and what we believe they might be planning."
Kirishima turned to Fat Gum, "Hold on, I feel like I'm missing something really important here. Shie what now?"
Fat Gum explained, "Some bad guys're planning to do some bad things. And they've called a meeting so we can talk it all out. Trust me. You two are very much involved."
Everyone present gathered around the meeting table and took their seats. Bubble Girl stood up, "All right, let's begin at the beginning. For the past couple of weeks now, those of us at Nighteye Agency have been conducting an investigation into Shie Hassaikai, a small but organized group of criminals."
One pro hero, Kesagiri Man, asked, "What prompted this?"
Bubble Girl answered, "An accident involving a gang of thieves called the Reservoir Dogs."
Another pro hero, Mr. Brave, commented, "Yeah, I heard about that."
Bubble Girl continued, "The police thought the whole thing was an accident, but there were a number of details that didn't add up, so we began tailing them."
Nighteye's other sidekick, Centipeder, added, "In my capacity as a NIghteye Agency sidekick, I begun following leads to see what I could uncover. I found that, in the past year, the members of Shie Hassaikai have had increased contact with those outside of their organization, including other groups whose business dealings are less than reputable. Their aim seemed to be expanding their organization and enriching its coffers. Shortly after our investigation began, they made contact with a member of the League of Villains. Jin Bubaigawara, villain name: Twice. They were wary of being tailed, so I was unable to follow them, but with the help of the police, I confirmed that an altercation had occurred between the two groups."
Gran Torino chimed in, "That'd be about when they decided to reach out to Tsukauchi and me. Figured we'd be able to assist, given the League's involvement."
Kesagiri Man was sitting next to Gran Torino, "Where is Tsukauchi?"
Gran Torino answered, "Follow-ups with some other eyewitnesses. You know, cop stuff. Sorry, boys. I didn't see something like this coming. I've got a bad feeling that things are about to get ugly."
Izuku and Danny both knew Gran Torino was now talking to them. Izuku said, "I don't care if they do. I wanna help."
Danny added, "If the League is involved, then I am here to help. On top of everything else going on here, of course."
Mirio asked, "Hold on, you two know him?"
Izuku nodded, "Gran Torino? Danny and I did our internships with him."
Kirishima realized that Gran Torino was with All Might and Danny during the Kamino fight. He was jealous that Izuku and Danny knew some big guns.
Nighteye then said, "Go on, Bubble Girl."
Bubble Girl continued where Centipeder left off, "So, after all that went down, we posted a notice on the HN requesting assistance."
Centipeder interrupted, "I think we can skip that part."
Bubble Girl muttered, "Sorry."
Ochaco asked, "What's the HN?"
Nejire answered, "Stands for Hero Network. It's an online service that can only be accessed by pros. You can see what all the heroes in the country are up to, and you can ask for help from people whose Quirks might come in handy."
The pro hero, Rock Lock, then asked, "Does anybody wanna tell me why a buncha high school kids were invited to this conference? I don't care if they are from UA. If we have to keep stopping to explain this stuff, we'll never get to the actual plan."
Fat Gum stood up, "Don't say that. These two have important information to pass along."
He gestured to Kirishima and Amajiki. Kirishima was confused while Amajiki just wanted to go home. He then said, "Anyway, I see a lot of new faces, so let me introduce myself. Nice to meet ya. I'm Fat Gum. Who wants candy?"
Gran Torino added, "Plus, some of these kids have fought members of the League before. In particular, that young man sitting to your right. He fought alongside myself and All Might during the Kamino incident. He's more than capable for this mission."
Rock Lock turned to Danny, who gave him a green eyed glare. Lock then dipped low into his seat.
Nighteye said, "Hassaikai's movements are hard to trace, but we suspect one of their main sources of income is illegal drug sales. So I requested help from heroes who have some expertise in that area."
Fat Gum nodded, "Yep, I brought in my fair share of drug dealers back in the day, and at Red Riot's debut fight, he proved he could, too! Tamaki was shot, and the bullet contained some kind of drug I've never heard of before. One that destroys Quirks."
Everyone was shocked to hear that. Mirio asked, "Tamaki, you're OK, right?"
Amajiki nodded, "Yeah, the stuff wore off while I slept. Here, look. I've got this cow hoof and everything." He turned one of his arms into that of a cow's."
Mirio chuckled, "Guess we know what you had for breakfast."
Rock Lock said, "I'm glad to know the effects aren't permanent at least. So this stuff doesn't zap a Quirk for good."
Nighteye replied, "No. But Eraser Head has some further insight."
Aizawa then said, "It doesn't seem to function exactly like my Erasure does. Since I'm not actually attacking the Quirk directly. What we call a Quirk is an extraordinary addition to an ordinary human body. Those additions are collectively referred to as Quirk genes. I can shield those genes and temporarily block their expression, but I don't actually damage them."
Fat Gum added, "But when Tamaki here was shot, we brought him to the hospital, and they found that his Quirk genes had sustained damage. Fortunately, they seem to have healed on their own, and he's back to normal now."
Nighteye asked, "What do we know about the substance he was shot with?"
Fat Gum answered, "Whatever it was didn't harm the rest of his body. Nothing but his Quirk was impaired in any way. The guy who shot him clammed up. He won't say a word. And the round that hit Tamaki was totally spent. However, Kirishima bravely defended Tamaki from a bullet, which then bounced off his own body and should now provide us with a viable sample."
Kirishima was shocked, "Wow, I did that? Really? That's crazy!"
Ochaco beamed, "Wow, awesome job, Kirishima!"
Tsuyu added, "That's so cool!"
Najire realized, "Oh, yeah. His Quirk. It's Hardening, right?"
Fat Gum continued, "And when we analyzed the substance from the bullet, we discovered something that made me sick to my stomach. It contained human blood and cells."
The students were shocked, minus Danny, who was pissed as now he knew what they were doing to Eri during the experiments on her. He could feel his ghostly nature start to take over.
Ryukyu said, "In other words, that effect came from a person. From someone's power. A Quirk that can destroy Quirks."
One pro hero asked, "How is all of this connected to Hassaikai?"
Fat Gum answered, "The man who shot Tamaki used an illegal drug to boost his Quirk during his fight with Kirishima. The distribution channels for stuff like that are complex. Although things have shrunk since the old days, drugs still pass through various people and organizations before they finally reach the end user. There's no concrete evidence that Hassaikai handled the drug, but we know for a fact that they interacted with one of the middlemen responsible for moving it."
Nighteye took over, "The other day, Ryukyu's team broke up a fight between two villain groups. One of those groups was controlled by the intermediary organization that Fat Gum just mentioned."
Ryukyu added, "One of the two giants had been given an inferior drug that didn't last long."
Kesagari Man said, "There have been a rash of gang related crimes recently, and most could be connected to the Hassaikai if you tried hard enough."
The pro hero who asked the question asked, "Don't you have anything more that implicates them more clearly?"
Chisaki's photo appeared on the screen behind Nighteye, who said, "Their young head, Chisaki: Quirk, Overhaul. With this power, he can disassemble things and then reassemble them. A Quirk that allows him to completely break down matter. And a bullet that can break down Quirks. Chisaki has a daughter named Eri. There are no records or details about her birth. But when Mirio, Fenton, and Midoriya encountered her, they noticed there were bandages wrapped around her arms and legs."
Ryukyu commented, "Could he really do something so horrific?"
Gran Torino sighed, "Unfortunately, yes. In a world of superhumans, if you can dream it, you can do it."
Mirio and Izuku were shaken with fear and anger as they started to feel guilty that they couldn't save Eri. Danny's ghostly nature was really starting to slip his control.
Kirishima asked, "Hold on, what are they talking about?"
Rock Lock sighed, "Once again, why do we have children in this meeting?"
But then Danny interrupted in an eerie voice, "That bastard Chisaki is experimenting on Eri and using her blood and cells to make bullets that erases Quirks."
The other UA students were deeply disturbed. Even some of the adults were as well. Lock was especially terrified since he was sitting next to Danny and the ghost boy's voice was very creepy.
Nighteye then spoke up, "To be clear, we aren't certain that he's actually selling the bullets. At this point, their efficacy appears to be questionable. It's possible that they're still in the testing phase, and he's giving them out as samples to rally more people to his cause. We have no hard evidence, but we do know he's gathering allies and funds from across the nation. If the completed drug allows him to annihilate someone's Quirk entirely, imagine the devastation he could cause."
Fat Gum growled, "Just talking about it's enough to make my blood boil! Let's go get this monster!"
Rock Lock found his voice again, "Tch. It would have saved us a lot of trouble if these three had just gotten the girl away from him."
Danny glared at Rock Lock, "You're just begging for a beating, aren't you?"
Nighteye said, "Fenton, stand down. Lock, give the boys a break. I take full responsibility. The blame should not fall on them. Even without knowing the full story, they acted to save the child, each in their own way. Midoriya was willing to bear the risk of taking her then, while Mirio chose to wait for another opportunity, when success would be more likely. And Fenton was able to talk to Eri directly and get information from her. I assure you, nobody in this room is more frustrated than they are."
Izuku stood up, "We'll get Eri away from him next time…"
"And we'll protect her," Mirio finished.
Danny added, "We'll make sure of it."
Nighteye nodded, "Indeed. That's precisely what we've come here to discuss."
Rock Lock spoke up, "Huh. You kids wanna talk big, that's fine. But if what Nighteye is saying is for real, that little girl is at the center of Hassaikai's entire underground drug operation. She may have managed to get away from Overhaul for a few minutes, but she got herself seen by a few heroes. You think he's gonna keep her at home after that? Hell, I know I sure wouldn't. And if we go busting into their headquarters and she's not there, they're gonna know that we're onto them. We gotta be sure of where he's hiding her."
Danny then pulled out the tracker he had Clockwork make for him, "Dude, I'm way ahead of you."
Nighteye nodded, "Fenton was able to give something to Eri that he can track. We will know where exactly she's being kept. However, Hassaikai's plan might be further along than we know. Even when we rescue the girl, they may have enough product to mass distribute across the nation. So, not only are we hitting the main headquarters, we are also going after everyone associated with them. We've made a thorough list of groups with connections to Hassaikai, as well as properties owned by the organization. This is our starting point. I would like you to investigate each coordinate on this map. It is the most logical way to fully eliminate any possible chance of these bullets getting onto the streets."
One pro hero realized, "That's why you asked minor heroes like us to join. The heroes in this room all operate in one of those locales. We know the areas better than most."
Fat Gum said, "Didn't expect someone who worked with All Might for so long to be such a careful planner. Let's just go bring them down! While we're taking our sweet time, that abused girl's out there crying somewhere."
Nighteye sighed, "We can't do this like All Might would. That's why we must be meticulous about our strategies and predictions from the outset. So we have the highest chances of saving her."
Gran Torino chimed in, "He's right. We shouldn't rush. If we show our hand and we don't end up rescuing her, then we'd just be throwing gas on a fire. Like how Stain's capture was a beacon that led criminals to seek out and join the League. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they handed out Quirk destroying weapons to those hoodlums in order to increase their recruitment. Plus, although Fenton has a way of tracking the girl, we can't just go charging in without fully knowing what we're walking into."
Fat Gum shouted, "You're thinking too dang much! If we keep sitting here yapping about it, we're never gonna get anything done!"
"Tell me about it," Danny muttered. He was trying to keep his anger and ghostly nature under control. Giving Rock Lock mean looks was surprisingly helping with that.
"Excuse me, I have a question," Aizawa raised his hand. "I don't know the specifics of your Quirk, Nighteye. Feel free to correct. But from what I've heard of it, your Quirk, Foresight, allows you to see into the future. So why not use it on us? That's logical, right?"
Nighteye sighed, "I'm sorry. But I cannot. My Foresight has some limitations. I need a full 24 hours between activations. That means I get one person, and then I'm spent for the rest of the day. Additionally, the future is played in my mind like a flashback. Think of it like viewing a filmstrip. For one hour, I have the power to watch a person's life like a movie. The issue is, everything I see is from a tight perspective on the person in question. This severely limits my capacity to interpret context. I've found that it's only on the very rare occasion that I can see the future of more than one person, but at that it's only a tiny snippet and not the full movie." He gave a quick glance to Danny, then back at Aizawa, but Danny did notice.
Aizawa said, "That should still provide more than enough information to be useful, don't you think? And it doesn't explain why you can't do it."
Nighteye explained, "What if I saw imminent death in your near future? Worse, what if it were a cruel, merciless demise? My Quirk should be employed only after we've confirmed the highest likelihood of it can help ensure our victory. It shouldn't be relied upon when there are still too many uncertainties."
Izuku realized, "It's because of All Might. That's why he can't."
Danny thought, "And using Clockwork is out since he won't tell me anything useful about this. Mysterious as he always is, Mr. I Know Everything."
Rock Lock interrupted, "Whoa, hold up. Death is still information. If we know what's coming, we can still figure out how to survive."
Nighteye sighed, "You don't understand. It's possible what I see is unavoidable."
Rock Lock argued, "Bro, that's the only excuse you have, for real? Oh, hell no, just use it on me now! I'll show you I can beat death!"
"I can't!" Nighteye shouted.
Before Rock Lock could say anything else, Danny spoke up, "Sir Nighteye said he can't, so just shut up and zip it. Knowing your future isn't good, it isn't bad either. Just know that your future is not set in stone. I learned that the hard way. You can't rely on something that is a possibility. Focus on the here and now. Starting with rescuing Eri. Got it?"
He gave Rock Lock a hard green glowing death glare.
Rock Lock sighed, "Fine."
The room was deathly silent for a few moments before Ryukyu spoke up, "We should get started. The boy is right. There's a child in trouble. That's what's important here."
Nighteye stood up, "Fenton's tracker will help narrow down where the girl is being hidden. The rest of you will help take down Hassaikai's connections. As well as helping save the girl and stopping Overhaul once and for all. I'm counting on your help. All of you."
The meeting ended and the UA students sat at a table in another room. Izuku mumbled, "If only I'd rescued her then, even if I had to use force. At least she'd be safe."
Danny said, "Dude, I feel the same way. But we couldn't take any chances with Overhaul standing right there. Trust me, I'm dying to go rescue her. But we can't just storm the castle. Trust me, I learned the hard way. At least I was able to talk to her and give her something to help track her."
Kirishima turned to Izuku, "Aww, man. So that's what happened that day? So frustrating!"
Ochaco added, "We know you tried, Deku. And Danny, you helped in such a big way."
Amajiki stared at Mirio, who was feeling just as down as Izuku. The third year had never seen Mirio this down before."
Aizawa then walked into the room, "Is this a funeral or something? You know, it's just my luck. Before you got involved in this, I was going to recommend that your work studies be suspended."
Kirishima shouted, "What? Why would you do that?"
Danny growled, "You would dare?"
Aizawa said, "Calm down, Fenton. You all were listening when he said the League of Villains is involved, right? That changes things. Here's the deal. Midoriya, you still haven't proven I can trust you again. And Fenton, you're on thin ice as well. Unfortunately, I'm positive that if I try to stop all of you now, you'll do something reckless and attempt to take things into your own hands. So, I'm watching all of you. Especially you two, Midoriya and Fenton. If you're going to see this through, you two gotta do it the right way. Use your head. You two hear me?"
Izuku nodded while Danny said, "Yes, sir."
Amajiki turned to Mirio, "Mirio, please, will you try to smile?"
Nejire said, "Hey! I know what'll help you! Just remember! Regretting something and getting frowny doesn't change things. You know it?"
Mirio replied, "Yeah."
Aizawa then said, "I'll only say this once, in case it gives you a little peace of mind. Just because you didn't hold onto her this time, doesn't mean that you didn't give Eri hope. So keep looking forward."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
Then Mirio stood up, "Hey, Midoriya, Fenton? Next time, we'll definitely save her."
Izuku nodded, "Right, no matter what!"
Danny added, "Let's do this."
Elsewhere, Nighteye was meeting with Gran Torino, "Now I understand. Of course. You sent Midoriya and Fenton to me in the hopes that they would help mend my relationship with All Might."
Gran Torino chuckled, "Heh. I thought it would give you an excuse to talk, at least. When you get old, it's your job to help stubborn youngsters. So, the kids. What are your honest thoughts about them?"
Nighteye answered, "I think Midoriya and All Might are very similar. Especially when it comes to the madness living deep within. The one I could never understand. I see that in them both. As for Fenton, he is definitely an interesting young man. He has experience, I can tell. Plus, I got an interesting vision of his future."
Elsewhere, Eri was sitting on a bed in a dark room. Suddenly the door burst open and a man stepped in, "Yo, Eri. Relax, it's just me. I'm just checking to make sure you're doing OK in here. What? You haven't touched any of your toys. And after I bought them just for you. It wouldn't hurt to let your guard down a little, you know. See, I'm not scary. There anything you want me to bring you? No worries. If I'm in the way, I'll leave you alone." He then closed the door and walked away.
Eri laid down on her bed, "So strange. So completely different. My entire life, no one's ever reached out to me like that before. That green haired boy felt so kind. So warm. And that ghost boy, Danny Phantom, he was warm, too. Kind and gentle. He gave me his necklace so that he could come rescue me. He promised. Both of them were so kind." She held her hand to her heart. "I want to see them again. I have to give Danny Phantom back his necklace. Please, come soon."
