A/N: I forgot to post on Friday, my bad, my wonderful readers, to make up for it, I'm going to post the regular three posts this week, but only for this week and let me explain why. I'm amassing a wonderful amount of chapters and very soon I'll be able to start posting 3 times a week again (aside from this week). But for the moment it's going to stay on two, probably for the next, maybe two weeks. So! We have Steve appearing in this chapter, we have Rowan doing some fancy void tricks and Conejo being a badass. What more could we want from a chapter? Don't forget to tell me what you think and I'll see you guys on Wednesday!
Chapter 264
The guns shots started and Renee herded the kids into the bushes and the tall trees to get them out of sight. They were just coming out, just to see if everything was okay when Samantha spotted something in the trees.
"MOM!" she shouted pointing at the man who had just appeared through the foliage.
Renee raised her gun to fire, the man across from them did the same, but neither ever got the chance. There was this static and then suddenly the man pitched and screamed. Jerking like he was spasming where he stood. When he finally collapsed they saw that behind him there stood Rowan in all her red-headed glory. Her hands out as if they had just been on his sides, and in her palms Renee swore she saw the dying glow of orange sparks.
There was a sort of glowing blankness in Rowan's eyes that she blinked away, focusing on the family in front of her.
"Everyone okay?" Rowan asked. They all exchanged glances at her. But it was Renee who took a hesitant step forward.
"Oh my god, Rowan! Where have you been?" she asked.
She wanted to ask more. She wanted to hold onto the girl and make her go see Steve. Steve who needed her more than he needed air to breathe.
But Rowan was looking around, a finger out as if counting them, she never got past three. "Where's Lou?" she asked. Then before Renee could answer she said: "I can't be that late, can I? I swear he wasn't supposed to leave before… I'll have to go get him."
She turned to walk away and Renee called out for her. Rowan stopped at the sound of her name but she seemed super out of it, even more so than the few times she had hit her head and Renee had been around. Still she turned back to the family. "Road is a ten-minute walk that way," she said pointing towards some distant heading. "The next car coming is going to be Kono and Chin, might be Steven, not really sure to be honest. Tell them I say hi."
She went to walk away but by the time Renee managed to lurch to her feet to chase after her to get her to stop, Rowan had already walked behind the trees in which that man had appeared. Renee heard her flippant call of: "I'm going to get Lou," followed what she swore was a crackle and a then a pop.
Renee scrambled to the trees and looked around, looked every which way, but Rowan was just… gone.

Aaron Barnes Jr. had just been released from jail. That was not an exaggeration. He had been in jail for years, and had gotten out last week, and you know what was on his mind? Revenge. He wanted to get the no-good lying undercover cop who had put him and his father in jail. And he was going to get him too.
See that cop had very stupidly turned on his best friend, and Clay Maxwell had called Aaron's lawyer to tell him where to find Lour Grover. Then Aaron had paid his FBI contact enough money to turn Lou Grover and his family in to him so he could do whatever he wanted to him.
And it was working great until Grover made Zagar and managed to escape him. He said he'd deal with it, that he'd get Lou to Aaron but that had been an hour ago and he still hadn't delivered. Aaron was done waiting.
"Come on let's go find him ourselves," Aaron growled to the three most loyal men he had brought with him to this over-heated hell-hole.
They walked out from the building they had been waiting in to find a man leaning against their jeep, smoking calmly, a giant semi-automatic rifle in his hand.
"Hello Junior, long time no see," he said. His grin alone was disrespectful. No one called him Junior but his dad and his dad had died in prison. Caged like an animal.
"Who the hell are you?" he asked. His men leveling their weapons with his chest. But this guy seemed far from concerned.
"Just someone who took a few odd jobs for your dad a couple of years ago," he said, he calmly threw his cigarette away and then stood. Why the hell was this guy in a leather jacket and dark pants, wasn't he fucking hot?
"Since you and your pops were always good to me, I'm going to give you a chance. One single chance, to change your fate," he said and Aaron half scoffed what the fuck was this guy on? "You see, that guy you're after? Well he's kind of a little bit under my jurisdiction if you get what I mean. Well… he's the Professional's jurisdiction and since I work for her it's mine now. So, if you want to get at him… well… you'll have to go through me and that's not going to end well for you."
Aaron had heard a lot about the Professional and her Sanctuary while he was in jail. It sounded like a fairy-tale or some warning told to scare people. But when he started this search for Grover Sanctuary never popped up so he figured he was good to go even if Grover was on the Five-0 team that everyone said Sanctuary protected.
But what was one guy going to do against him and his men?
He started to laugh "Get out of my way!" he ordered.
The guy merely sighed. "Alright, I'll move," he said, raising his hands in surrender so his gun fell to his side. He moved away from the jeep and let the men walk past him.
The man was so calm and complacent; Aaron couldn't help but laugh. He turned to his closest companion with a simply order: "Kill him."
His man nodded and turned but when he did, he paused which was odd. "What the hell?"
Aaron turned too, the man was no longer smiling, in fact they could no longer see his face. He was wearing a white plastic rabbit mask and the screams of warning, Professional's Cute and Cuddly Angel of Death, rang in his ears.
"Sorry, ese, it's just business," he said and then chucked the grenade at them.
None of them managed to get a shot off before the grenade blew. Aaron hadn't been fully killed by it but he had been injured, and he had been thrown. As the ringing in his ears dispelled, as the fog cleared from his vision and the pain hit his body, he heard the groans of this companions beside him, and the crackle of the two jeeps that were now on fire from the blast.
And then he heard the gunshots. One for each of the men that came with him. Each shot silencing the groans and cries of his men. And then there was someone hovering above him, and he didn't even bother to look up to know who was standing above him, probably holding a gun to his head.
"It's a pity. No one ever picks the option to run when I give it," he said and then he pulled the trigger.
Conejo watched as the body slumped back to the dirt. He looked around at the carnage he had wreaked and smiled. Damn he was good at his job, and he missed doing it too.
"Five-0 hands up!"
Conejo froze, the universe had better have been kidding. Why the hell was Steve here. Of all places why had Steven McGarrett show up here? He heard Steve coming closer to him, heard that sharp intake of breath as he recognized who was standing there.
"Sin Nombre!" flew out of the man's mouth and Conejo quickly turned and chucked another grenade at him, one that Steve dove to avoid. With Steve on the ground and another explosion setting off another mushroom cloud of dirt, Conejo turned and bolted for the jungle. He needed to find Rowan before Steve did.

Lou shot until he had no more bullets and then he had to get creative. Zagar was calling out taunts, telling him to give up, stop making this harder. But Lou wasn't going to go down easy, he just wasn't. In the distance came a scream and both the FBI agents, or rather, the one FBI agent and the one thug, turned. Even Lou turned.
He couldn't help it. The scream came from back where Renee and he kids were but it wasn't any of their voices. But it sounded like the guy was getting tortured.
He took that time, the time were they were distracted and hid himself in the trees. He just needed one of the other guys to come to him and he could take them down. Hit them with the element of surprise. He took himself deeper into the trees, heading for the tall grass, behind him he heard it again, a terrible screaming and a cry of: "What the shit?!"
The bullets were flying in a direction that wasn't aimed at him. He came out from behind the tree, just to see what was happening and Zagar was whirling around gun drawn, spinning in circles as if trying to pin point something. He kept repeating the same words: "Where did she go?"
Well what the hell? Something had definitely spooked him.
Zagar turned on him, his gun leveling with Lou's chest. "What's this a trick? You got some girl doing magic tricks?"
Girl doing magic tricks? Well didn't that just sound super fucking familiar? Lou could only stare at him, he didn't know what to say, he didn't know what was happening. Luckily, he didn't have to say anything, he didn't even have to defend himself. There was this subtle pop, a sort of crackle and suddenly Zagar jerked, crying out and spasming before he dropped.
Lou just watched him go, wide eyed with surprise. But when he saw who had been behind Zagar, he was no longer surprised.
Rowan smiled calmly at the body at her feet from where she stood in the tall grass. Her hands were out, as if she they had been on Zagar's sides, or maybe his back. Each of her fingertips were splayed and a web of static strings sparked between them. Her eyes were on Zagar's motionless body and when she looked up to him she seemed to be blinking herself free of something.
"You good?" she asked him.
"Gurl, you have no idea how happy I am to see you."
The smile reached Rowan's eyes that time. "I'm sorry I'm so late, any longer and you might have had a few new holes in you."
Behind them there was a shout and Rowan half turned, a sort of longing on her face that he almost recognized because he knew whose voice was calling out to them.
"I better go," she said. "You're good now anyway. Tell the others I miss them."
Then before Lou could stop her, she darted into the tall grass and out of view, just as Steve found him.
"Who was just with you? Who was that?" Steve asked lowering his SMG.
Lou looked off into the grass and then down to the groaning twitching man at his feet. He wasn't sure if he saw her or if he was just dreaming but he knew the damage just saying her name could cause so he all he said was: "Man… I'm pretty sure I was hallucinating… I'm just glad to see you."
Lou breathlessly hoped that Steve didn't press him and luckily, while the man seemed really intent on chasing whoever it was that disappeared in that tall grass, Steve didn't move. He knew when he asked: "Where's the family? Renee, the kids? Are they alright?" that Steve's priorities were with his family and not chasing after phantoms of Rowan Pierce.
Thank god, cause Lou had no idea how to explain what the hell had just happened.

Rowan found Conejo spattered in blood and heading through the jungle towards her. They exchanged brief: "Did you get them?"s, which they both had. When that was confirmed, and their stories briefly shared, Rowan opened yet another portal but this time the two of them went home.
She wasn't home for less than two seconds before she got the message from Wo Fat asking her to pull him. But she knew better than to just yank him, she opened a portal and then waited for her brother to walk through. As soon as he was on her side of the portal she wrapped him up in a big hug and closed the door behind him. Wo Fat would always hug her carefully, as if the act of hugging her was a chore, but he always smiled into her hair and she could always feel it. She never said anything about it because she knew he was subconscious about it, so it was kind of like their little secret.
Today that smile did not stay long on his face.
"She's got a new power!"
Wo's face left her shoulder and turned up to Conejo and then he let her go, hands on her shoulders, a look of surprise on his face. "Excuse me?"
"It's not new. I've been electrocuting people long before this," she said to Conejo, she then turned back to Wo Fat. "Remember that girl in the NLM, yeah, shocked the shit out of her."
Wo Fat stared at her for a second as if digesting the information, almost like he didn't know how to respond to the information he had just received. His eyebrows crinkled. "Okay, so… did you… shock… Con… is he okay? Are you okay?" "No, not Con, corrupt FBI guys I think." "The FBI was here?" "No."
Wo Fat blanked his eyes. "Okay, wait a second… you… you and Conejo went… somewhere…" "—Hawaii…" "Oh, Hawaii… wait… Hawaii, like Hawaii, Hawaii, you went there… what? Why the hell were you there?"
His eyes went from Conejo to Rowan. damn why did Conejo have to tell Wo Fat that? Why? "Well, Grover and his family were in trouble and we went…"
"You went to Hawaii for… for…"
"Well I wouldn't have had to go to Hawaii if someone hadn't taken my app down!"
"Your app went down because Steven was trying to track our location through it!"
Rowan blinked her eyes and staggered away from him. Wo Fat so rarely yelled at her so it surprised her to have him yell at her now. Wo Fat took a few deep breaths.
"Okay… okay… you didn't see him right? He didn't…see you?" he asked. He didn't have to elaborate, Rowan knew he was talking about Steven.
"I was wearing the red wig," she told him sullenly. "He uh…. Caught a bit of a glimpse of me… I think… and I caught one of him…"
"But he didn't recognize you, right?" he asked again.
Rowan stared at her brother, why was he so… upset about her possibly seeing Steven? Why did he want to keep her away from him for so badly?
"No… I… I don't think so," she whispered and he nodded.
"Okay, okay, that's good, then… alright… so you went to save Grover and uh… and you… electrocuted people?"
"Three of them, yes, bad guys." She then turned to Conejo. "He threw a grenade at his bad guys and then shot them all in the head."
Wo Fat sighed once more. "Okay… and you did this with the uh… uhm…" he showed her his hands and mimed what she had done.
"Yeah, before it was channeling all the vision energy into shocking the person I touched when I got a vision from them. Now I can do it on command, just summon my travel energy put it my hands and expel it into the body. Which I guess is kind of cool…"
Conejo and Wo Fat were exchanging glances, not so covertly either. "Okay so it's weird."
"Does it hurt you to do it?" Wo asked. "If I remember it hurt you to take out that NLM girl." Rowan shook her head. "Alright, then I guess it's rather cool."
"Cool! Really? That's what you wanna call it? The girl has magic freaking powers! She can electrocute people on cue, that is awesome!" Conejo crowed and Rowan actually smiled that time as Wo Fat smiled too.
"I did have a question," she said. "I know that you're… uhm… mad at him… Steven… but he uh… he did say something things to me… the last time we spoke… not recently, not this jump I mean, I mean when I called him on his birthday." Both Wo Fat and Conejo were staring at her now. Not a good sign. "I just think that maybe… maybe he might be tracking us so hard because he might be… looking for me…"
It was heart wrenching to say it out loud and see the pity on their faces. Rowan sounded pathetic and she knew she sounded pathetic. She lowered her eyes from them.
"You said you'd look into it… remember? Why he would say that it was… it was me who told him to leave and not the other way around?"
"Yes… I… I suppose I did say that, didn't I?" he murmured. He glanced to Conejo who was shaking his head but he turned back to Rowan and said: "I'll ask Armando and Kong to look into it, alright?"
Rowan smiled happily and hugged him once again, and then quickly hugged Conejo. "Are you guys hungry? Oh who am I kidding, Con's always hungry. I'm starving, lets make something to eat. Or do you guys want me to hop somewhere and…"
"NO!" came from her two boys but the smile stayed firmly on her face. "Okay so spaghetti it is, I'll get started."
She rushed off for the kitchen, ignoring the fact that her two brothers seemed to be arguing, probably about her request. All she could think was that maybe… maybe she might be able to get her family back.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Okay, I know you guys saw some weird shit, and I wish I had answers for you, except… except I don't. All I can say, all I can implore of you, is that you do not under any circumstances tell Steven McGarrett what you saw. The man is not taking anything involving her well as is, so until I get more info don't tell him she Rowan Pierce showed up today.
That was what he said to his family while McGarrett was busy securing them passage back to Oahu. But Steve had given him one day to relax with his family, to get over the day of stress they had, and then he had called a meeting. A whole Five-0 meeting and Grover was expected to be there too.
Though he was loathed to leave his family after what they had just gone through together, Grover left them. He figured this meeting was about his glimpse of Rowan but that was not what he got. Instead he got the Five-0's all huddled around Steven McGarrett's living room coffee table.
"I uh… I wanted to tell you what I did," Steven said. "You see… I uh… I asked Toast to uh hack into Sandy. To see… you know to see if Sandy was tracking where Rowan's rescue requests were coming from. And uh… well… Sandy… it figured out what I was doing, what I was making Toast do and it uh… it did another one of those Captain America Contingency plans things and I guess it took itself down."
"Wow that's hardcore," Chin said. "Uh… any ETA on when it'll go back up… or uh… if it'll go back up?"
Steve shook his head. "I talked to Kong… or more aptly he yelled at me. And uh… he hasn't gotten the order to put it back up. Not sure it will go back up."
They sat there in silence for a second and then Steve cleared his throat and added: "We managed quite nicely without Rowan and Sandy before. We can do it again."
Okay, yeah, yeah, Sandy was useful but she was also a little bit of a creepy stalker. Though it was nice to know that the reason that Sandy didn't pop up was because she was down, and not because Rowan didn't care enough to help him and his family.
"Do you know if it was uh… Rowan's decision…?" Kono asked no doubt wondering if it was her supposed best friend's decision shut them out or if it was Wo Fat's.
"Uh… Kong told me earlier that the app was under Wo Fat's control, Rowan was simply using it to send help our way. I'm not sure if she's aware it's down."
Steve looked heartbroken at this turn of events. But Lou and the others could get Steve out of this particular funk. He knew, however, that if Rowan came up, if Lou told him that his wife and kids and him were all certain that Rowan had appeared from no where and saved them with evolving powers, Steve would hit a darkness that even the great Danny Williams would have a hard time getting him out of.
Grover was going to have to talk to Danny when he came from the mainland, tell him about what he saw, what Renee and the kids saw. Together they'd figure out if they'd tell Steven, or if they'd wait to have more information and proof. But until then, Lou and his family was going to sit on what they had seen to keep Steven from getting worse.
It was the least he could do for the man who commandeered a helicopter to come and rescue his family. Even if he was a couple minutes behind Rowan and her powers.
