I'm doing my best to get them back together as close to the 300th chapter as possible! Don't forget to review and I'll see you guys on Monday!
Chapter 271
It was bad, and Wo Fat knew it was bad, because he was seriously contemplating calling McGarrett.
Beside him, Conejo sighed again. "I can't believe you gave her an untraceable phone."
Wo Fat rolled his eyes. "McGarrett was trying to track her…"
"Yes, but now we can't track her. Because she has an untraceable phone!"
"Well I didn't think this was going to happen."
"Really? Really? You didn't think there was a remote chance that Rowan could get lost? The girl got lost in the lobby when she got here! She has a horrible sense of direction."
This was all because he had asked Rowan for her location and she had told him she had no idea where she was. Granted she also said she was on her way to him, but he wasn't sure he believed her.
"Yes, but she's not lost, Con. She's been arrested!"
"Yes, and on top of Rowan not having a phone we can trace her with, there's no Sanctuary App to help her either…"
"McGarrett was trying to trace her!"
"You've made a series of terrible decisions and now we're fucking screwed. How are we going to find her huh?"
And now they had circled back to him thinking about calling McGarrett. He'd be able to find her not that he was any good at it while they were dating. Well, he did find her usually, took a few days longer than Wo could, but if anyone could make a few phone calls to MI6 and get a location on Rowan, it would be Steve.
Except Steve would also be on the next plane out to come get her, so that was why he couldn't really call him.
"Kong's hacking MI6 as we speak, he will find where they've stashed her."
Lot of good that would do if Rowan was attempting to escape of course. But Conejo didn't mention that. They got off of the elevator in the underground parking lot and together walked out. He luckily had his bag of weapons on his shoulder and his mask hidden inside.
"So where are we going, why are we going to the car?"
Because driving was going to calm him the fuck down, that's why. That was not something that he was going to discuss with Conejo because the man was agitated and would probably just snap something at him and the two of them would get into an argument that would lead to a fist fight of sorts. Wo Fat unlocked the car door, waited for Conejo to throw everything into the back before sliding into the seat beside Wo's.
Wo Fat had just gotten the car started when there was a sudden eruption of static from everything in the car.
"What is happening?" Conejo cried, already cringing and pulling his knees up like everything was about to explode and then with a sudden pop and screech a car appeared, drifting to a stop in front of theirs.
Wo Fat and Conejo stared at the vintage Rolls Royce literally steaming and covered in ice that was now sitting in front of their car. They were both staring carefully at Rowan who was in the driver's seat. Both of them realizing at the same time that, holy shit, she had jumped a whole car. She had… holy fucking hell. She had never done that before! They exchanged glances before jumping out of the car the same time she did.
"Rowan! Are you…?"
Rowan waved away all of their concern but took a hug from both her boys. "I will no doubt have MI6 looking for me, we need to leave… NOW!"
And that was all they needed to rush back to the elevator. Wo Fat pulled out his phone to call his contacts, to figure out where to lay low until this was settled, except the thing was fried. He had forgotten to put the protective case onto it. Great. Now he'd have to get a new one. But he heard Conejo's: "Where are your shoes?"
"Well… I used one to concuss Harry Ford. And you know, they're so hard to run in… and we both know I can't drive in them, so I just left them behind, which was hard to do cause they were red-bottoms, but you know, I've got money, I'll buy more," she said. She was way to chatty, meant she was freaking out. Wo Fat immediately put an arm around her and pulled her close to give her some sort of comfort.
"It's okay, we're going to get out of this."
Usually Rowan would press into him, this time she didn't. She must have been really freaked out. "We may have to jump."
"Fine."
They rode for a second in silence. "I told you he was a spy. I told you, he knew too much to just be a regular guy," Conejo snapped and Wo Fat glared at him. She didn't need that right now.
"I know. I'm sorry. I should have listened to you," she said in a small voice and both men turned to her absolutely shocked that had come out of her face. "He wasn't even that cute… I just needed the distraction."
Conejo turned angry eyes up to Wo Fat who knew exactly what she needed distraction from. But he just had to glare at the man to keep him quiet. They got back to their room, well Wo Fat's Room and he put Rowan right onto his bed.
"You stay here," he ordered. "we're going to pack all of your things." He put the energizing ray into her slightly trembling hands. "When you can energize yourself and we'll start throwing everything through a portal back to Spain."
Rowan nodded and then both Wo Fat and Conejo left her there to go to her own room.
"Are you sure it's a good idea to leave her?"
Wo Fat wasn't certain but he couldn't have Conejo questioning him. "We'll take turns checking in," he murmured instead.
For a while the two of them were silent, once they managed to get all of Rowan's stuff in one section they both began to pack. Conejo got all of Rowan's toiletries in the correct bags, Wo Fat got all her shoes into their own suitcase. While Wo Fat was putting in all of Rowan's dresses and fancy skirts Conejo had gone to check on Rowan to find her drinking from little vodka bottles having already drank all the rum.
She was upset, obviously, upset that she had let Harry Ford trick her, and a little shaken about the jump she had just done. It must have taken a lot of energy, energy she admitted that she didn't have. She had had to pull from Steven again. To Wo Fat that meant that they definitely have to move, because Steve's attempts to locate her always got a little more frantic whenever there was some sort of void incident.
Conejo had just wrapped her up in a hug, put another bottle into her hand, and told her to hold on and once they were done packing and they were back in Spain he would deal with that.
He then showed up back in the room with Wo Fat with a glare on his face and chip on his shoulder.
"This is your fault," he told Wo once he was done recounting the tale of the mess of a woman in the room next door.
"How is this my fault? Why did you let her go on a date with him in the first place if you didn't trust him?"
"The only reason Harry Ford even stood a chance was because you told her about McGarrett."
Wo Fat slammed the last dress into Rowan's practically overflowing suitcase. "And what did you want me to do? Hmm? Lie to her?"
"Yes! Lie! You should have lied to her! Anything would have been better than telling her he actually married Catherine!" he cried. Wo Fat stared at him, god, if Conejo even knew how many lies Wo Fat was telling as was, he'd be either really proud or very annoyed.
Conejo put his hands on his hips and then hit Wo Fat with what was probably a confused look. "You know, I'm actually surprised he married her."
Wo Fat sighed deeply going for the drawer of pjs and underwear he was going to have to pack now. All despite not wanting to touch his sister's delicates. "Yeah? And why is that?"
"Because every time I see that man… he's like… rabid to find her. You know?"
"No, I do not." A complete and utter lie because he knew first had the kind of crazy Steven was for Rowan.
"Okay, well you haven't seen him. The second you mention Rowan, the second he thinks you know where she is that man fucking freaks. I just… I unno man, he said he wanted her back and he goes and marries someone else? That's a very shitty version of cold feet."
"Yeah well, McGarrett's indecisive."
"Yeah, but like… he's not with work stuff? He has this like lazer focus when it comes to crime."
"And he doesn't with girls, hence why he and Ro had so many issues."
"I thought his major issues was with you being in her life."
"Yes, that was the major, but his commitment to work and not to her was one of the issues. Like the app and the powers and his inability to communicate with her and… do you know how many times I had to step in and play relationship counsellor with those two? I swear to god I had to threaten to steal her away practically once a month to get him to treat her right. Took him over six months to just call her his girlfriend. She was living with him, they had a fucking kid, wouldn't tell people she was his girlfriend."
"My god did they have like… any aspect of their relationship that was normal?"
"The sex was phenomenal and they had a lot of it."
"Jesus Christ."
Conejo sat down on the bed and Wo Fat was just about to tell him to get up and help him pack when the door to their suite was violently kicked in.
"MI6! Freeze!"
Conejo yelped and threw himself to the ground, Wo Fat dove behind the bed, pulling his gun out of his waistband. He shot out the doorway to the men that were breaching the apartment effectively keeping them from getting into their room but this wouldn't last long. His pistol only had so many rounds and the rest of his ammo was in the room with Rowan.
"Where are your weapons?! You're a fucking walking arsenal, where are they!"
Conejo scowled at him, a pistol in his hand as well. "They're in the car."
"You left them in the car?!"
"Don't yell at me, Rowan showed up and I forgot them alright?!"
"Oh my god, you are the worst hitman!"
There was this sudden pop that interrupted them and Wo Fat swore he saw several sets of something oblong and black fly out into the living area of the suite.
"Was that a…"
"GRENADES!" was shouted from all the men that MI6 had sent and both Conejo and Wo Fat threw themselves down just as it went off.
There should have been blow back but not even the percussive rebound hit them. When both boys looked up, they found Rowan, still shoeless and in her frilly Prada dress standing at the end of the bed, a great big orange translucent shield between them and the door.
Ah, and that would be the force field power that Conejo had been talking about.
Rowan lowered her hands and turned to them. "Alright so I uh… I blew them to smithereens and I think I'm going to be sick. I'm going back to your room, you deal with that. But you know, keep one of them alive. Preferably Harry if he's here, cause I would like to neuter him."
She then popped open another portal and left them there with the chaos and bodies.
Both Conejo and Wo Fat stood there for just a minute surveying all the damage they could see from their hiding place behind the bed. Wo Fat swore and kicked the bed. "Goddamn it, why is it whenever I stay in a hotel with you people, I never get my deposit back?"
"It not even your credit card!" Conejo cried. "You're literally using a fake name, you'll never have to pay it back."
That was true. Wo Fat shook his head. "Alright look, I'm going to finish packing, go off whoever's still alive…"
"Aww but my mask is downstairs…"
"Fine I'll go off them…"
"No, I want to do it, I rarely get to have this kind of fun anymore."
Wo Fat groaned again. Loudly. God when was this going to end? Probably when his hair was white from stress.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
Harry woke up with a pounding head and a full body ache, but an explosion would do that to a person. He hadn't been hit with the full blast but he got hit with the after shock. It had slammed him into the wall across from him.
He hadn't wanted to be there in the first place. Bryce had demanded that they go to the hotel to grab her come hell or high water. He had ordered all his men into that room, and Harry had stayed back because the only reason he was there was because he wanted to keep them from killing Rory.
And now they were probably going to kill him.
He shook his head clear of the vibrations and tried to get a good look at where he was. The deck of a ship judging by the movement. Probably somewhere out in the English Channel. It was pitch black and windy, so a typic English night out on the Channel.
"Good morning!"
Oh that was Rory, he knew her voice anywhere. "Gurl, it's the middle of the night."
He forced his eyes to focus, there were three people standing in front of him. Rory in the middle flanked by a very annoyed looking Wo Fat and the Sin Nombre.
She was Rowan Pierce. They had done a DNA test and everything and it had come up negative but if both of those two men were with her then she had to be Rowan Pierce.
For a moment they all stare at him when Sin Nombre turned to Rory or whoever she is and then pointed at Harry.
"What's uh… what's going on with his face, who hit him?"
"Oh, I did."
"Really, we're teaching her torture techniques? When do we start waterboarding?"
"Ew no. I hit him with my shoe upon my arrest," Rory said primly.
"Ha! Nice!"
God he must have been concussed because he swore he just watched Sin Nombre fist bump that girl.
"Alright, enough with the jokes," Wo Fat said. "You. You're MI6. Don't lie, I know she's not lying. Tell me who you really are and why you wanted her."
"I told you. They said it was because of the heist at British Museum."
"There's no way to tie us to it, so there has to be something else," Wo Fat growled to Rory. Okay so that wasn't quite a confession but he didn't outright deny it either. So who knew what that meant. Wo Fat then turned his ruthless brown eyes back onto Harry.
"Now. Real name. Real reason for Arrest. No lying. Or I'll send Rory downstairs."
It was a threat. Harry knew it was. The only reason that man was going to send the lady below quarters was to do something terrible to him without her being there.
"My name is Harry Langford."
"Oh my god, he only shortened it to Ford. That's so dumb," Rory cried throwing her hands up in the air. "See, see if I had my app…."
"NOT NOW!" Both men shouted before Sin Nombre shook his head. "Okay you know what, Ro, go downstairs."
"Oh no, please, I'll be good, I promise."
"No, see you're derailing the interrogation…" "—He's got a point Ro, you are distracting us."
"Oh please, please. I'll be quiet, no more interruptions I promise. It's my first illegal interrogation…"
"That's not true. Japan."
"Okay, first illegal interrogation where I'm not the one in the hotseat."
Wo Fat slapped her shoulder, which caused Rory to cry out and for Sin Nombre to hit him. "Don't fucking hit her man, what did I say?"
What the hell was wrong with these people. They were… like some comedy sitcom trio, not a triad of dangerous criminals. Maybe Wo Fat and Sin Nombre were going soft. Maybe they weren't as dangerous or threatening as their files had said they were.
The two of them exchanged dangerous glares, speaking to one another with their eyes before Wo Fat turned back to Rory. "I meant the one in Japan with Sato."
Riku Sato? That was a Yakuza boss… or well he had been, god rest his soul.
"Ah… Mmm, yes I keep forgetting that. Since you know… I was drugged at the time…"
"I swear to god no one should get kidnapped as often as you," Sin Nombre sighed while Rory turned back to Wo Fat.
"Fine it's my first illegal interrogation with you and I feel like I'll get a real good look at how it's done properly. I promise I won't interfere or interrupt. I'll even try not to vomit."
Wo Fat sighed and though Sin Nombre shook his head he conceded. "Fine but stay back, and say nothing."
He then turned around and back handed Harry hard. Which wasn't fair because he had been so cooperative up until then.
"That's for sleeping with my… girl."
Alright fair. He might have deserved that.
"Now, Langford, why were they interested in Rory?"
"I'm under cover right now. I'm trying to get in with Nashid El Hamadi. He's a dangerous terrorist. He…"
"I know, I do business with him."
"I know."
Wo Fat paused and then appraised Harry carefully. For a moment the wind was all that could be heard.
"That's why you wanted her. To get to me?"
"Well that and the heist at the British Museum," Harry conceded. "There's a rumor that you were offloading goods from that heist and we figured… if we took Rory that you might be enticed to help us… or give us some information…"
For a second Wo Fat stared at him, his brown eyes alight with rage and then he tilted his head back and laughed. He laughed for a long while, first in Harry's face and then he turned to Sin Nombre and Rory, both of which were laughing, quite uncomfortably while staring at him in concern.
Or at least he figured that was what sin Nombre was doing he couldn't quite tell through the mask.
Then all of a sudden Wo Fat stopped laughing and turned around and punched him. Right in the chest.
For a second Harry lost the world again in terrible spots of black as he wheezed with pain and struggled to breathe.
"You thought you would make me bend? Did you not hear what happened in Colombia?"
"Yeah but that was Rowan. And this isn't Rowan, is it?"
Harry held his gaze and saw that Wo Fat's glare finally showed a hint of concern. "Are you… are you threatening my sister?"
"No one knows where she is. I mean, Rory here looks a lot like her, not the same girl according to a DNA test though, maybe you have a type."
Wo Fat turned back to Rory and said: "What did you tell him?"
Rory blinked her eyes. "I… nothing…"
"Ro, don't you lie to me," he ordered leaving Harry behind to talk to her. "Ro. Does he know your real name?"
"No I'm not that stupid and even if he did what does that matter?"
"It matters because Steven has a file and our travelling hinges on him not linking that file to you!" Rory groaned again but Wo Fat took a hold of her chin in his grip and forced her to look at him. "Ro, if he's gotten a hold of Steven we've got to go back to Colombia and lay low, do you want that?"
Sin Nombre grabbed his hand and ripped it off her. "I told you to stop manhandling her!"
As the two devolved into arguing, Rory's ice blue eyes honed in on him. She left the two men's side to come to him. He opened his mouth to apologize, to try and explain that, yes, this was a job, but he had enjoyed it. And not just the sex part. She was funny and witty and kind. She was a good person and if she could help him escape he could help her hide from whatever she was worried about. This Steven person she was scared would find her.
Rory put up a hand to silence him. She regarded him with those cold eyes as if thinking, before she slowly began to circle him.
Rory trailed a finger across the back, right across his shoulder blades. As he did the hair raised on his neck, and he swore he got hit with a bit of static.
"Hey. Wo? You can't kill him."
Wo Fat stopped arguing with Sin Nombre and turned back to her. "Excuse me? Yes, I can it's one bullet…"
"No, no, obviously you can kill him, I'm saying you shouldn't."
Wo Fat groaned. "Why?"
"Because Steve needs him."
That was a weird thing to say but if the two men were surprised by it they didn't show it. In fact Wo Fat just looked exasperated. But it was Sin Nombre who said: "Then we should definitely kill him."
Rory finished walking around him and went back to the two men. "I think you should help him get this Naismith person."
"You mean Nashid El Hamadi?"
"Yeah that person. You should put in a good word, get him in."
"Why the hell would I send MI6 in with a man I do good business with, hmm? Isn't that counter intuitive?"
Rory sighed. "I guess that's true. But think of what you'd get if you do it?"
"Really and what would I get?"
"Well this MI6 agent would owe you a favour and we might need that down the line."
Harry perked up. What now? No, no, he didn't agree to that. "Oh. No. No thank you I'd…"
"You'd rather swim with the fishes? Cause that's the plan," Sin Nombre told him and Harry paused. He didn't really want to swim with the fishes.
"I won't commit treason. If I owe you a favour it, I'll be to help you… like… get Rory out of custody or something. But I won't help commit treason or any other crime. Maybe I'll get you information, depending on what it is but that's it!"
Wo Fat turned a dark glare onto Rory who blinked her big blue eyes at him until he relented. "Ugh. Fine. Worst deal ever, but if it will make you happy..."
Rory clapped her hands happily and though Wo Fat continued to glare at her, Harry swore he saw a sort of softness reach his eyes. Almost like he cared for happiness, which made no sense to him because he was supposed to be some terrible sociopath or psychopath. He wasn't supposed to be able to have feelings for anyone other than himself.
Out in the distance a light flared. All parties turned towards it. Rory immediately crossed to Wo Fat, gripping his arm in a nervous fashion. "Who is that?"
"The cavalry," Sin Nombre snapped. "Time to go. Let's go."
Harry figured that they would go for the lifeboats to try and escape, or fire up the engine on this boat to try and outrun the superiors who had no doubt come to try and rescue him. Instead they went down, as if they'd lose them in the engine room.
But when the team boarded the boat, when they had untied Harry and asked him if he was okay, he found out that, upon first sweep, that the three couldn't be found.
A second sweep came up with the same results. They impounded the boat and practically took it apart. No smuggler holds or secret tunnels.
Rory, Wo Fat and Sin Nombre had just vanished and none of them knew where they had gone. But Harry knew one thing. He owed Wo Fat a favour. And he had no idea what that was going to lead to in the future but it couldn't have been good.
H5O-H5O-H5O-H5O
They were in Spain for half an hour before Rowan proclaimed that she felt, after what she went through, she deserved to go through the rests of their planned trip through the British Isles. She forced them to go to Wales, then drive to Scotland. Then they ditched the car and took a ferry over to Ireland where she surprised them with a whole day of Whiskey Tours, they were drunk before 5pm.
Then, four days later, once the British Isles were done, all the important castles and the lochs were seen, and Rowan got to do void magic in the middle of Stonehenge to see if she could resonate with it, they went home. Spoiler alert, Rowan's void powers did nothing extraordinary in Stonehenge, though Conejo and Wo Fat were on the edge of that stone circle all gadgets primed and at the ready in case something did happen.
Wo Fat finally managed to get a new phone to replace the one that Rowan's void magic had broken. He had tried to purchase himself a new one while they were on the trip but Rowan wouldn't let him and kept throwing any replacements into the water. Which there was a lot of in the British Isles. Puddles and lakes for days. Kept saying that he always found work when they were supposed to be travelling and if this were to be a real vacation he'd have to forget all about work and his empire and have fun with her. He did say that it was surprisingly freeing to not have his phone going off with potential problems and shipment updates. Until he finally got connected and realized all he had missed.
He read her a play-by-play of all he had missed in four days that she took, barely. Until he got to the most important update.
"Oh, hey look, I got a Data dump from Kong while we were gone."
"You shouldn't have taken your case off of your phone," Rowan reminded him as if they were going to start arguing about the phone again.
"Should have let me buy a new one," he shot back absently as he read it over. "Huh, would you look at that."
"Look at what? You have your phone, you gonna show me?" she asked.
"Apparently, MI6 received a tip about the Museum Heist. A tip that said that I was the one offloading the cargo and would know more about the Heist. And that grabbing you would be my downfall."
Rowan narrowed her eyes at him. "Got a tip? From who?"
"From Russia with love."
"The Stepanovs? What the hell, how did they even know me?"
"Well Kong says that they did some digging, asked questions around the hotel and then asked some questions on the dark web, a few people recognized your call sign and snitched. They must have taken that to the authorities. He's managed to infiltrate the systems, he wiped MI6 clean of you." He then turned to Conejo. "Also, apparently, they think you're Conrad Bastian, what is that about?"
Conejo shrugged but Rowan, who was now on her knees digging through their freezer for a carton of her favourite ice cream said: "Oh, Harry kept asking Conejo's name, cause I call him Con, so I made something up."
Conejo turned a glare onto her. "And the best you could come up with Conrad Bastian?"
Rowan shot him a glare and Wo Fat snapped his fingers in her face so she'd pay attention to him instead. They could argue about code-names and cover names later.
"I would like to know what you'd like to do about them."
Rowan blinked here eyes. "Me? You want me to decide?"
"Yes. Messing with the Stepanovs was something you wanted to do, this was your extracurricular project so you will have to decide how to deal with them now that they've thrown down this gauntlet."
Rowan nodded taking this very seriously, evident by the look on her face. But she didn't think long and hard about the decision, in fact she seemingly just came to a decision immediately.
"I'm done fucking with these people. It's time we shut them down."
Now it was Wo Fat's turn to pause. "Okay, I'll send someone up to…"
"No. We should do it," Rowan said abandoning her search for ice cream and shutting the freezer drawer. "I'd very much like to make sure they die, like 100% no second guesses, so surprise pop ups…"
Conejo groaned as if she had insulted him directly. "Oh my god. I shot him four times in the chest. That should have put him down!"
Wo Fat shook his head. "Forget about Waincroft, this is not about him, now is it?" When he had both of their attentions again, he continued. "Rowan, this is a very big under taking. It might be easier if you just send Con and a team of men…"
"No. It has to be us. I need to be there."
"You puke at the sight of blood."
"If I don't face my fears, if I don't stand up for myself, she will always have power over me. Even when she's gone."
Ah, so this had to do with her nightmares. With that incident before she dropped in the void here. She wanted vengeance for her attack in Ireland when she was first in WitSec. And well… Wo Fat knew all about wanting vengeance. Didn't mean he wanted his sister to go down the same roads he did but he figured it would be easier to get her through it if she were beside him.
Wo Fat sighed. "God I shouldn't be agreeing to this but fine. Fine Rowan. But I will come up with the plan. We're not going to move on them until I know what we're doing and how we're going to do it. Okay?"
Rowan nodded happily and smiled at him before sinking back down to the ground to renew her search for that ice cream. Wo Fat sighed once her attention was off him and ignored the patronizing look on Conejo's face. This second tango with the Stepanovs was going to go much more smoothly now that he was in charge of the plan... hopefully.
