Chapter 6: SFIT Showcase
On the night of the big showcase, the triplets and Tadashi, along with the whole gang, arrived at SFIT, wheeling in the recycling bins with Hiro's invention. Upon entering, they gazed upon every presenter with new ideas for technology. "Wow, a lot of sweet tech here today. How are you guys feeling?" Tadashi asked. "You're talking to 3 ex-bot fighters. Takes a lot more than this to rattle us." Hiro said. "Darn right, bro." Genji said. "You said it." Kaiya said. "Yep, they're nervous." Gogo said. "What was that?" Genji asked. "Oh." Honey Lemon said with concern. "Yeah, I can see they're starting to sweat." Metanite said. "You have nothing to fear, little fellows." Fred said. "We're not fellows, Fred." Kaiya said. "They're so tense." Honey Lemon said. "No, we're not." Hiro assured. "Relax, Hiro. Your tech is amazing. Tell him, Gogo." Honey Lemon said. "Stop whining. Woman up." Gogo said, trying to be helpful. "She's right, you know. We all were nervous during our first showcase too." Seer Shot said. "We're fine!" Kaiya assured.
"What do you need, little men and woman? Deodorant? Breath mint? Fresh pair of underpants?" Wasabi asked. "Wasabi!" Hornet exclaimed. "Underpants? You need serious help." Gogo said as they arrived at the podium. "Oui, Wasabi, that is un-grand non-non." Proud Dagger said. "Hey, I come prepared." Wasabi said. "I haven't done laundry in 6 months. One pair lasts me 4 days. I go front, I go back, I go inside-out. Then I go front and back." Fred explained, making Wasabi gag. "Sacré bleu!" Proud Dagger groaned. "Wow. That is both disgusting and awesome." Tadashi said. "Don't encourage him." Gogo said. "Yeah. His hobbies are nothing to laugh at, dude." Metanite said. "It's called 'recycling'." Fred said.
"Next presenter, Hiro, Genji and Kaiya Hamada. First up, Hiro Hamada." An announcer said. "Oh, yeah. This is it." Fred chuckled. "I guess I'm up first." Hiro said. "And after you, Hiro, it'll be Genji, and Kaiya last." Akela said. "Okay, photo, photo!" Honey Lemon said excitedly as she opened her phone's camera. Everyone grouped in for a big group shot. "Everybody say, 'Hamada'!" Honey Lemon said. "Hamada!" Everyone said as she took the picture. "We love you, Hiro! Good luck!" Honey Lemon cheered. "Don't mess it up." Gogo said, secretly winking at Hiro. "Break a leg, little man." Wasabi said. "Knock 'em dead, bud." Metanite said. "We're rooting for ya." Seer Shot said. "You got this!" Hornet cheered. "Lots of luck, mona mi." Proud Dagger said. "Science, yeah!" Fred exclaimed excitedly as everyone went off with the recycling bins. "All right, bro. This is it." Tadashi said, holding up his fist for a bump. But Hiro didn't return it. "Come on. Don't leave me hanging. What's going on?" Tadashi asked, noticing a worried look on Hiro's face. "I really want to go here." Hiro said. "Hey. You got this." Tadashi said. Hiro nodded before walking up onto the podium.
Genji and Kaiya watched from afar as they set up their recycling bins. "You know, Hiro really does look nervous." Kaiya said, concerned for her brother. "I know. We all are. But that's okay. Because when it comes to our turns, we just have to do the best we can." Genji said. "I know." Kaiya said.
As Hiro stepped onto the podium, holding a microphone, he cleared his throat. "Uh…hi. My name is Hiro-" He said into the microphone, but got interrupted by the feedback, making everyone cringe. "Sorry. My name is Hiro Hamada, and I've been working on something that I think is pretty cool. I hope you like it." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a couple things. He put a highly advanced headband on his head and held out a little robot he based off Megabot. "This is a microbot." He said. As the microbot whirled, the judges, including Callaghan, appeared unimpressed at first. One of the spectators even walked away out of sarcasm. Hiro started to worry, looking towards his siblings, Aunt Cass, Kash, Tray and the gang. "Breathe." Tadashi mouthed to him. Hiro took a deep breath before continuing. "It doesn't look like much, but when it links up with the rest of its pals…" Just then, hundreds more of microbots popped out of the recycling bins and headed straight for the podium, getting everyone's attention. As they made their way onto the podium, they formed into a big rectangular block with honeycomb patterns. "…things get a little more interesting." Hiro said as the microbot he was holding joined up with its friends.
As the group gathered with the crowd, a woman got the attention of a man she was with. "The microbots are controlled with this neural transmitter." Hiro explained, demonstrating the transmitter's control. When he removed it, the microbots collapsed in a heap. But when he put it back on, the microbots reformed the block. "I think what I want them to do…" Through his mind, the microbots formed into a giant hand, waving at the crowd. "…they do it." Everyone watched with excitement. The man and woman walked over with an interest as Hiro continued. "The applications for this tech are limitless. Construction." The microbots started assembling parts as Hiro walked into them. "What used to take teams of people working by hand for months or years, can now be accomplished by one person." Hiro explained as he now stood on the tower built by the microbots, which the crowd was now getting very impressed. "And that's just the beginning. How about transportation?" Hiro controlled the microbots in sync with his own steps as Callaghan stared in amazement. "Microbots can move anything anywhere, with ease." Hiro explained as the microbots moved him along the light railings while hanging upside down, giving Tadashi, Genji and Kaiya high fives. "If you can think it, the microbots can do it." Hiro said as the microbots lifted a glass ball device with a man inside it, who gave Hiro 2 thumbs' up. Callaghan watched in amazement as the microbots brought Hiro back to the podium and lowered him back onto it like an escalator. "The only limit is your imagination. Microbots!" Hiro said as the microbots took form of a larger version of themselves. The crowd cheered as Callaghan applauded Hiro's presentation. Even a couple robotic hands applauded too. Hiro and the microbots gave a bow to finish their presentation. "That's my nephew!" Cass cheered as the gang applauded.
"Next presenter, Genji Hamada." The announcer said as Hiro and his microbots stepped off the podium. Genji took a deep breath and stepped onto the podium after Hiro gave him the microphone. He took a deep breath and started. "Hello, everyone. My name is Genji Hamada, Hiro's brother. And I've also been working on something very impressive." He explained. He rolled up his sleeves and unveiled his invention. They looked like advanced mechanical wristbands. "These are Web Catchers. They fire a special web concoction of my own special recipe." He explained as he demonstrated. He fired a web string at a beaker on one of the tables. He then pulled back on the web, pulling the beaker to him and catching it in his hand. The audience was impressed as he put the beaker down. "That's right. You can use them to reach anything or anyone in a distance. But there's more. Like with my brother's microbots, there's also transportation." Genji fired another web string up at the ceiling and pulled himself up. He fired more web strings across the ceiling as he swung across the room as the audience stared in awe. "With the everlasting strength of the web, just about anything's possible. And with the just precise mixture of the recipe, they're easy to refill. Web Catchers!" Genji said as he hung upside down. Everyone cheered and applauded as his presentation finished. "Way to go, bro!" Hiro cheered.
"Next presenter, Kaiya Hamada." The announcer said as Genji dropped from his web and landed back on the podium. "Right. My turn." Kaiya said, feeling nervous. "Hey. You got this, sis." Hiro said. "He's right. We did it. You can do it too." Genji said as he stepped off the podium. Kaiya looked at her brothers with a sweet smile, took a deep breath, took the microphone from Genji and stepped onto the podium. She cleared her throat before speaking. "Hello, everyone. My name is Kaiya Hamada, the younger sister to Hiro and Genji. I'm here to present my invention for the showcase." She said, revealing a mechanical wristband on her right wrist. The audience was confused, thinking it was just a wristband. "I know what you're thinking. But it's more than just a wristband. Observe." Kaiya pushed activated the wristband and suddenly, her outfit changed into a beautiful bright pink princess dress. Everyone was amazed. "The dress is a hologram, but watch." Kaiya reached for her skirt and, to everyone's surprise, her hand didn't pass through it. She took hold of it. "It's called my Holo-Style. It can scan any sort of outfit brands and produce solid holograms for you to wear." She explained as she held up a fashion magazine and used her Holo-Style to scan one of the most expensive dresses. Her princess dress then changed into a gala dress she scanned. Everyone was impressed by this. Especially Callaghan. "With the Holo-Style, you no longer have to worry about money issues with expensive clothes. You can simply scan whatever you want to wear and do a quick holographic change. That way, you'll never have to worry about being late for work or a party ever again. The Holo-Style." Kaiya finished her presentation, holding up her Holo-Style. Everyone cheered for her presentation as she gave a lady-like bow.
Wow! That was spectacular! Hiro, Genji and Kaiya had entered the showcase and presented what they invented: Microbots, web catchers and a Holo-Style. What will Callaghan think of these inventions? What are the intentions of the man watching? Leave a review if you'd like.
