Chapter 9: Depressions & Discoveries
A few weeks later since the deaths of Tadashi Hamada and Robert Callaghan, Hiro, Genji and Kaiya sat in their shared room, looking at their bots in depression. Just then, they heard Cass walking up the stairs and hid their bots. "Hey, sweeties." Cass greeted. "Hey, Aunt Cass." Hiro greeted back. "Hey." Genji added. "Hi, Aunt Cass." Kaiya greeted. "Mrs. Matsuda's in the café. She's wearing something super inappropriate for an 80-year-old." Cass said. "That always cracks you up. You should come down." She set down a plate that had a muffin, a banana and some berries for the triplets before picking up a dinner plate that they never touched. "Maybe later." Hiro said. "Yeah." Genji agreed. "We're just not in the mood." Kaiya said. "Oh. The university called again. It's, uh, been a few weeks since classes started. But they said it's not too late to register." Cass said as she opened up some blinds and gestured to the triplets' registration letters. "Okay. Thanks. We'll think about it." Hiro said. "Yeah, we will." Genji said. "Thanks, Aunt Cass." Kaiya said. Cass sighed, hoping that they will think about it. "Oh, and before I go, Akela gave me this to give to you guys." She said, holding up Tadashi's crystal. "Tadashi's crystal?" Hiro asked. "It was…the only thing recovered from the fire. Akela thought you guys should have it." Cass said, setting the crystal on Hiro's desk. Hiro, Genji and Kaiya watched as Cass walked back downstairs to return to work.
Hiro got up, walked over to his desk and pulled the blinds back down. He then picked up Tadashi's crystal and stared at it for a few minutes before putting it around his neck. He then sat down in his chair and pulled up the Bot Fighting website. Just then, he got a message. He opened it and saw a video recorded by the gang. "Hey, Hiro, Genji and Kaiya." They greeted. "We just wanted to check in and see how you 3 were doing." Honey Lemon said. "We wish you were here, buddies." Wasabi said. "These past weeks have been kinda boring without you 3." Metanite said. "We really miss you right now." Hornet said. "Hiro, Genji, Kaiya, if I could have only one superpower right now, it would be the ability to crawl through this camera and give you 3 a big hug." Fred said. Hiro closed down the message and stood up from his chair as Genji and Kaiya walked over. They looked between their robots and their letters. The triplets picked up their letters, handed his siblings their letters and stared at them for a while. But then, they threw the letters into their trash bin. But as they grabbed their robots, Megabot's legs fell off and landed on Hiro's big toe. "Ow!" He cried out as he landed on his bed. "Hiro!" Kaiya said with worry. "You okay, bro?" Genji asked. "Ow!" Hiro repeated.
Suddenly, a familiar machine booted up and a familiar robot inflated himself. Hiro, Genji and Kaiya turned towards Tadashi's room and saw Baymax, still up and active after all these weeks. Baymax managed to squeeze himself past Tadashi's bed, knocking over a few books from the shelf before walking over to the triplets. "Hello, I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion." He greeted. "Uh, hey, Baymax. We didn't know you were still active." Hiro said. "Yeah, you're looking good." Genji said. "Still as huggable as the day we met." Kaiya said. "I heard a sound of distress. What seems to be the trouble?" Baymax asked. "Oh, I just stubbed my toe a little. I'm fine." Hiro assured. "On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?" Baymax asked, showing his pain rate scale. "A zero. I'm okay, really. Thanks. You can shrink now." Hiro said. "Uh, those aren't the right words, Hiro." Kaiya said. "Does it hurt when I touch it?" Baymax asked, attempting to touch Hiro's toe. "That's okay. No touching. I'm fine." Hiro assured before he slipped and fell in between his bed and dresser. "Hiro!" Kaiya said with worry. "You okay?" Genji asked. Hiro tried to get up, but he was totally stuck. "You have fallen." Baymax said. "You think?" Hiro asked with a hint of sarcasm. "Can you get up?" Kaiya asked. Hiro tried to get up as he reached for a shelf, but as he grabbed it, it broke off, causing the contents to fall on him. "On a scale of 1- On a scal- On a sca- On a scale of 1 to 10- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your pain?" Baymax asked, repeating himself every time Hiro said ow. "Zero." Hiro groaned in pain. "Are you sure? That looked very painful." Genji said. "I'm fine. Really." Hiro said. "It is alright to cry." Baymax said. "No. No, no, no, no, no." Hiro said as Baymax helped and picked him up. "Crying is a natural response to pain." Baymax said. "I'm not crying." Hiro said, pushing himself out of Baymax's arms. "I will scan you for injuries." Baymax said. "Don't scan me." Hiro said strictly. "Scan complete." Baymax said, not listening. "Unbelievable." Hiro said in disbelief. "So, what's your analysis, Baymax?" Kaiya asked. "You have sustained no injuries. However, your hormone and neurotransmitter levels indicate that you are experiencing mood swings common in adolescence. Diagnosis…puberty." Baymax diagnosed. "Whoa, what?!" Hiro asked in shock. "In fact, all 3 of you also appear to be experiencing puberty." Baymax said, scanning Genji and Kaiya too. "Seriously?" Genji asked. "Puberty?" Kaiya asked. "Okay. Time to shrink now." Hiro said nervously. "You and Genji should expect an increase in body hair, especially on your face, chest, armpits, and…" Baymax started to say. "I so don't wanna hear the end of that sentence!" Kaiya exclaimed, covering her ears. "But it does explain Hiro's sudden attraction to Gogo the day we met." Genji said. "Thank you! That's enough." Hiro said, getting Baymax's case. "You may also experience strange and powerful new urges." Baymax said as Hiro tried to shove him back in. "Okay! Let's get you back in your luggage." Hiro said as he continued pushing. "I cannot deactivate until you say you are satisfied with your care." Baymax said. "Duh, Hiro. That's how he was programmed." Genji said. "Fine! I'm satisfied with my-" Hiro tried to say, but he slipped off and fell on his siblings.
Just then, Kaiya saw something rustling in Hiro's hoodie under his bed. "Hey, Hiro, something's moving in your hoodie." She said. Hearing that, Hiro reached for his hoodie and pulled it out, looked in the pocket and pulled out a fidgeting microbot. "My microbot?" He asked in confusion. "And it's still active?" Genji asked. "This doesn't make any sense." Hiro said as Baymax walked up. "Puberty can often be a confusing time for young adolescents flowering into manhood." Baymax said. "No. What he means is that this thing is attracted to the other microbots. But that's impossible. I thought they were destroyed in the fire." Kaiya said. "They were." Hiro said as he placed the microbot in a glass case. "Dumb thing's broken." As he, Genji and Kaiya went to fix Megabot, Baymax inspected the microbot, noticing the way it was moving. "Your tiny robot is trying to go somewhere." He said. "Oh yeah? Why don't you find out where it's trying to go?" Hiro asked in sarcasm. "Would that stabilize your pubescent mood swings?" Baymax asked. "Uh-huh. Absolutely." Hiro said sarcastically. "Whatever, Baymax." Genji said. "Fine with me." Kaiya said. As they worked on Megabot, they heard the front door open and close downstairs with the bell chiming. "Was that the front door?" Kaiya asked. "Uh…Baymax?" Hiro asked. The triplets looked around to see that Baymax disappeared. "Baymax?" Kaiya called. "Baymax!" Genji shouted. Suddenly, sounds of horns honking and brakes screeching came from outside. Hiro opened the blinds and they looked outside. Baymax was crossing the street, ignoring the traffic. "What?!" Hiro exclaimed in shock. "We gotta go after him!" Kaiya exclaimed. The triplets grabbed their hoodies and shoes, and ran downstairs.
As they reached the bottom, as they hurried to the door, Cass got in the way as she saw them. "Kids?" She asked, surprised to see them. "Hey, Aunt Cass." The triplets greeted nervously. "Wow. You're up and…" Cass said. "Yeah. We figured it was time." Genji said as he and his siblings saw Baymax turn right. "Are you registering for school?" Cass asked hopefully. "Uh, yeah. We thought about what you said. Really inspired us." Kaiya said as they scooted around to the door. "Oh, honeys. That's great." Cass said, bringing her nephews and niece into a big hug. "Uh-huh." Hiro said. "Okay, special dinner tonight. I'll whip up some chicken wings. You know, with the hot sauce that makes our faces numb." Cass said, making her numb face. "Okay, sounds good." Hiro said. "Works for me." Genji said. "Me too." Kaiya said. "Great! Last hug." Cass said, giving them one more hug. After she let them go and headed back to work, the triplets ran out the door. Kash and Tray stared suspiciously as they left, wondering what was going on.
As Hiro, Genji and Kaiya chased after him, Baymax followed where the microbot wanted to go. He crossed the street, not paying attention to the incoming traffic. "Baymax!" Hiro called as he and his siblings ran through the streets. Suddenly, they lost sight of him. "Where'd he go?" Genji asked. Just then, they spotted him on the trolley. "Trolley!" Kaiya cried. "Baymax!" Hiro exclaimed. They ran after the trolley, but got blocked by a passing group of bikers. As they caught up with the trolley, Baymax was already gone. "Quick, up to the market square!" Genji exclaimed. They ran up the stairs to the market square and saw Baymax walk down a tunnel. "Baymax!" Hiro exclaimed as they ran through the crowd. "Wait for us!" Kaiya exclaimed. After exiting the market square, they ran through an alley. As they saw Baymax go down another alley, they followed him until they found him standing in front of an abandoned warehouse. "There he is!" Genji panted. "Baymax! Are you crazy? What are you doing?" Hiro asked. "I have found where your tiny robot wants to go." Baymax said. "I told you, it's broken. It's not trying to go-" Hiro tried to say. "Wait, Hiro, look." Genji said. Hiro looked at the microbot and saw that it was trying to head into the warehouse, no matter which way he pointed the case. "It was trying to go somewhere. And it was here." Kaiya said. Hiro walked up to the door, but it was chained with a padlock. "Locked." He said. "How are we supposed to get inside?" Genji asked. "There is a window." Baymax said. The Hamada Triplets looked up and saw an open window.
After climbing up a nearby carrier crate, Hiro tried to stand steadily on Baymax's head as he tried to reach the window. "Please exercise caution. A fall from this height could lead to bodily harm." Baymax said. Hiro finally managed to reach the window and pulled himself inside after seeing that no one was around. After helping Genji and Kaiya inside, they looked around the warehouse. Hiro pulled out his microbot, seeing where it was trying to go. "It looks like it's trying to go deeper inside the warehouse." Kaiya said. "But why?" Genji asked. Suddenly, a loud squish startled them. They turned around to see Baymax stuck in the window. "Oh no." Baymax said. The triplets shushed him. "Excuse me while I let out some air." Baymax said. He started slowly deflating as the air hissing made a very loud and inappropriate noise. "Are you done?" Hiro asked. "Yes." Baymax said as he let out a little more air. The triplets pulled him inside. "It will take me a moment to re-inflate." Baymax said. "Fine, just keep it down." Hiro said. As Baymax started re-inflating himself, the triplets headed down to the ground floor and followed where the microbot was trying to go. Just then, as they turned around a corner, they spotted something covered by a wall of hard-to-see glass. Hiro armed himself with a broom while Genji grabbed a lead pipe and Kaiya picked up a wooden board before walking towards the glass wall. As they squinted their eyes, they could see some kind of machine making something. Just then, they heard a conveyer belt activating on the side. They walked over and saw that the conveyer belt was dropping microbots into a barrel. Hiro scooped up a handful and stared at them. "My microbots?" He asked in confusion. "Uh, Hiro?" Kaiya said as she and Genji saw something horrifying in front of them. Hiro looked up and saw hundreds of barrels loaded with microbots. "Someone's making more." He said. "But who? And for what?" Kaiya asked. "Probably something to do with that." Genji said, pointing to a beautiful mind board on their right. It had newspaper clippings, blueprints and a strange sparrow symbol over a map of San Fransokyo. "Hiro? Genji? Kaiya?" Baymax said, scaring the triplets. "You gave us a heart attack!" Hiro exclaimed. "My hands are equipped with defibrillators." Baymax said, charging the defibrillators in his hands. "Clear." "Stop, stop, stop! It's just an expression." Hiro said. "Yeah. It means you just scared us." Genji said.
Just then, Hiro noticed that his microbot was going crazy. Suddenly, all of the microbots started rising out of the barrels. "Oh no." Baymax said as the triplets turned around to see what the microbots were doing. "Someone must be controlling them!" Genji said with worry. "Run!" Hiro exclaimed. But as the triplets started running, they noticed something very unfortunate. "Oh, come on!" Kaiya exclaimed. Baymax was just doing his waddle walk. "I am not fast." Baymax said. "Yeah, no kidding!" Hiro exclaimed as Genji and Kaiya pulled Baymax along. "Go! Go! Come on!" Genji exclaimed. As they ran up to the locked door, they tried to break it down, "Kick it down!" Hiro exclaimed, kicking the door. But Baymax only gave a soft kick. "Then punch it!" Hiro exclaimed. Baymax gently punched the door to no avail. "Hiro, Baymax isn't programmed for combat!" Kaiya exclaimed, making Hiro groan. Just then, the microbots started coming after them. "They're coming!" Genji cried. "Go! Go!" Hiro exclaimed. They pushed Baymax along through the warehouse as the microbots chased after them. But then, Baymax tripped over a pipe. The triplets helped Baymax up as they continued pulling him along. "Oh, come on! Go, go, go!" Hiro exclaimed as Baymax hit his head on another pipe. "Through here!" Kaiya exclaimed as they pushed Baymax's inflatable body through a tight machine. After pushing all the way through, the triplets shut the machine's door and tried to lock it, the microbots pushed through and forced them back with Baymax getting stuck in an underground vent. "Move it." Hiro said as he, Genji and Kaiya helped Baymax and crawled into the vent. But as they crawled through the vent, the microbots cut them off as they continued the chase. "Come on!" Hiro cried. The microbots continued to chase the triplets and Baymax through the vents until they finally got out. As they ran, the microbots continued their chase from in the vents. "What? No, no." Hiro said with worry. Just then, the microbots shot out from under them, sending them flying up into the rafters. As they recovered, the triplets looked and saw a man wearing a kabuki mask and an all-black suit with a coat, controlling the microbots. "Come on! The window!" Hiro cried as they pushed Baymax back towards the window they came in through. But as they reached it, Baymax got stuck as they tried to push him through. The triplets looked back and saw the man as his microbots were heading right for them. "He's coming!" Kaiya cried as they tried pushing Baymax. "Suck it in!" Hiro exclaimed. But as they pushed, the window flipped around, putting Baymax's front half back inside and leaving the triplets hanging by his feet outside. "Baymax!" They cried. "Hiro? Genji? Kaiya?" Baymax called in confusion before seeing the microbots coming towards him. He shielded his head as the microbots pushed him out. But suddenly, as Baymax and the triplets fell, the microbots snagged Kaiya's ankle. "HIRO! GENJI!" Kaiya screamed as she was pulled back inside. "KAIYA!" Hiro and Genji cried. Just then, Baymax grabbed them both as he bounced off a little shed and landed on the ground, acting like a cushion for them. "Come on, let's get out of here." Hiro said as he helped up Baymax. "But what about Kaiya?" Genji asked in worry. "We'll come back for her! Just go! Hurry!" Hiro exclaimed as they ran away from the warehouse.
Whoa! Wasn't that crazy? In the midst of their depression, as the triplets attempted to go bot fighting, they unintendedly re-activated Baymax. Just then, one of the microbots that survived came online in Hiro's hoodie. The triplets and Baymax followed the microbot to an abandoned warehouse. There, they found a machine that was creating thousands of microbots and a mysterious beautiful mind board. Suddenly, they were attacked by a mysterious man in a kabuki mask controlling the microbots. Hiro, Genji and Baymax managed to escape, but the masked man captured Kaiya. Will the 2 brothers manage to rescue their sister? What plans does the masked man have with Kaiya? Leave a review if you want.
