Elements of Surprise

Climbing up the tree, Max went up to get the necklace for Sanzo Hoshi.

"How are you doing up there, Max? Can you reach the Cosmo Stone yet?" Zoe called.

"Just about but it doesn't look much like a Cosmo Stone." He said, grabbing it. "Nah, just a plain old necklace. Oh well, now to figure how to get down from here."

The tree branch he stepped on, snapped and Max falls down. The group gasped as Max falls to the ground before Terran steps in to catch him and Max falls on him.

"You okay, Max?" He grunted.

"Yeah, thanks." Max said, getting off of him and went to Sanzo Hoshi. "Here's your necklace back, Sanzo."

"Thank you." Sanzo Hoshi said, taking the necklace. "I'm sorry it's not what you thought it was."

"So then, where is the Cosmo Stone?" Rex said.

"I don't know but he sure didn't have it." Max said, shrugging.

"If he did, Foolscap would've taken it already." Terran said.

"So then why did that space pirate go to all the trouble of capturing him?" Zoe wondered.

"They must think there's something about Sanzo that will help them find another Cosmo Stone." Rex said.

"Om, om, om, om…" Sanzo chanted.

"Maybe it has something to do with his chanting." Max said. "Although all it's done so far is get on my nerve."

"Sanzo Hoshi, did Foolscap happen to say what he wanted with you?" Rex asked, causing him to stop chanting.

"Uh, let's see… he expressed a strong desire to have me move a mountain somewhere." He replied, "But I have no idea what he meant."

"Uh, you can move mountains?"

"If the pirates need Sanzo, then we could use him as bait to set a trap for him." Zoe said.

"Well, it is now time that I complete my journey home. So farewell." Sanzo said.

"Wait! We're all coming with you, Sanzo!" Max said.

"You are?"

Sanzo then looked at Rex and Zoe.

"Yep!" They smiled.

Somewhere in the area volcano near the village, Shear was flying around, looking for Sanzo Hoshi after Foolscap flew back.

"I've spent all day and night looking for this Sanzo Hoshi guy and still there's no sign of him." Shear said, feeling tired of flying around. "This is all Foolscap's fault! He should have never lost that monk in the first place!"

She flew to the tree and rested on the tree branch, yawning.

"Well, I'm not falling behind on my beauty sleep because of his mistake." She said, drowsy, "A quick little nap won't hurt."

While she was napping on the tree, a pair of loggers is ready to harvest for lumber.

"There's some fine lumber."

"Yeah, let's take it down."

They begin chopping tree where Shear is slept and woke her up.

"Okay! I was wrong!" She panicked. "This is gonna hurt!"

The tree fell on the shrine with two statues and destroys it.

"The statue of Bull King and Lady Tessan!"

"Please tell me we didn't just break 'em!"

"You two interrupted the best dream ever!" Shear said, grumped and angry. "And now I'll repay you with a nightmare!"

She swiped the card on her neck plate, summoning Albertosaurus.

"We've set the demons free!"

The loggers shrieked and ran for their lives as the Albertosaurus chased them.

"Lady Tessan is on the loose!"

The dinosaur was called by Shear as they kept running.

"Who is this Lady Tessan?" She then yawned.

Meanwhile, Dr. Z and the Alpha Gang is still on the mission to find the fruit of Eternal life.

"I'm so hungry!" Ursula whined.

"I told you we should have stocked up on snacks before heading off in search of the fruit of eternal life." Dr. Z said with Ed carrying him on his back.

"Too bad, Ancient China doesn't have any of those Chinese fast-food places." Ed groaned.

Ursula then turned to see the orchid trees below them.

"Hey, check it out! Peach trees!" She said.

"That must be the magic fruit!" Zander said, "Now to get down from there."

"Follow me! I'll eat the-" Dr. Z said, inadvertently pushed them all down the hill.

"Eternal youth or bust!" They yelled and crashed into the peach tree. "That was the bust all right."

The peaches falls all over them.

"Yes! Hello again, sweet youth and goodbye, aching feet and hairy eyebrows!" Dr. Z begins b=eating them.

"Let see those kids and punk call me old lady now!" She then eats the peaches.

"We'll be young again!" Ed and Zander then eats the peaches as well.

Suddenly, they feel gagged and spits them all out.

"These peaches aren't even right!" Ursula said.

"Well, if they are the fruit of eternal youth, that would kind of makes sense." Zander exclaimed.

"They're still gross!"

"Let's face it! these are just regular old peaches." Ed groaned.

"And they're ours so quit eating them fruit thieves!"

They turned to see that they are confronted by farmers with pitchforks.

"What? No! I didn't eat a thing!" Ursula said.

"Me too! What she said!" Zander said.

"Technically, we did spit the peaches out." Ed murmured.

"That's true. They were way too gross to swallow." She said.

"Then, let's get back all the chewed-up pieces and beg for mercy." Zander said.

Dr. Z huffed. "I'll never beg to some farmers!"

"Silence!" The farmer pointed his pitchfork at them.

"Let's beg!"

They started begging for mercy, incoherently.

"What kind of strange chanting is this?"

"It's like something from an ancient monk."

"Monk? Wait a minute, that's it! It all makes sense!"

The famer looked at the group.

"The old man…"

"Please don't hurt me! Please!" Dr. Z begged.

"That pudgy fellow…"

"Hey!" Ed said, offended.

"The skinny fellow…"

"They say Sanzo Hoshi travels with an old man and a pudgy and skinny student, but no dragon prince."

"What? You're talking about the Sanzo Hoshi?"

"I think it might be him."

"Anyone know who this Sanzo guy is?" Ursula asked.

"I have no idea but whoever he is, he must be important and powerful." Ed said.

"I vote we play along." Zander said, "You can do important and powerful, can't you?"

It made her smiled, sneakily.

"Excuse me, but are you Sanzo Hoshi, the famous monk?"

"Why yes! it is I, the amazing Sanzo!" She said while Dr. Z begged harder.

"Your greatness…!" They bowed their heads.

Walking across the desert, The group accompanied with Sanzo Hoshi to return to his home village.

"Feeling so weak…!" He moaned.

Max receive an alert from his Dino Bracer. "A dinosaur is nearby!"

"One of the pirates?" Rex said.

"Maybe they're going to try and snatched Sanzo again." Zoe said. "Let's get ready!"

"That's weird. The signal just disappeared." Max said.

"Huh?"

"But where'd it go?" Terran asked.

"What you looking at?" Sanzo asked, butting in.

They flinched.

"Max thought he had a bug bite!" Zoe said.

"Oh…!" Sanzo then collapsed on the ground.

"Sanzo!" They cried.

"Oh no!" Zoe said

"Are you okay?" Terran asked, concerned.

They got their answered when Sanzo Hoshi groaned.

"We can't set a trap if our bait's down for the count!" She told them.

On top of the deserted hill, the Alpha Gang and Dr. Z was brought to the farmhouse as they were given a meal.

"Your presence here honors us, Sanzo." The Elder said, "I wish we had more to offer you and your students, but we are a poor village. This food is all we have left for the entire month."

"We'll make do." Ursula said while they ate the meals.

But Dr. Z however has been eating, unmannerly.

"You have a very particular table manner for one who is enlightened." The Elder said, narrowing his eye.

"Back off!" He barked.

"Be polite, old student of mine or I'll send you to the corner." Ursula scolded.

"You're not the boss of me!"

Ursula then grabbed him. "As far as these locals are concerned, I am the boss of you! So, play the part or we'll all end up in their stockade!"

"Yes, boss." Dr. Z complied.

"Is there something wrong, Sanzo?" The Elder asked.

"No, no, just a little private monk stuff." Ursula said.

"If it's not too much, we have a request to make of you, your greatness."

"Yes! What is it, lowly peasant?" Ursula said, tossing Dr. Z away.

"I'm all right!" Dr. Z said.

"We haven seen any rain in months." The Elder said, "Our field are starting to dry up! We're running out of food."

"Ready for seconds?" Dr. Z blurted.

"Please, Sanzo Hoshi, will you use your chanting powers to make it rain?" He begged.

"Whai—" Ursula said, confused.

"I beg you, please!" The Elder grabbed her shoulders and shook her.

"Only if you put a little sugar on top." Ed said.

"Very well, pretty please with sugar on top."

"Actually, I meant on my soup."

Back with the group, they rode on Chomp, in his full-size Triceratops.

"Fine idea to continue our journey on Chomp." Sanzo said, "It's really allowed me to rebalance my elemental core."

"I balanced a spoon on my nose for five minutes this one time." Zoe commented.

"The kind of balance I'm talking about involves making peace with everything happens to you."

"What if someone captured your parents, how would you make peace with that?" Rex questioned.

"Well, first I would go to the captors and I would say to them.. You've lost your elemental balance but let us now resolve this peacefully."

"Huh?" Zoe said.

"Does that work?" Rex asked.

"I like the idea of resolving in things peacefully." Max said.

"Village up ahead!" Rex noted the village is ahead of them. "We should return Chomp to normal size."

"Yeah, that's a good idea."

After they got off of Chomp, Sanzo suddenly collapsed on the ground again.

"Again, Sanzo?" Terran sighed.

"Guess you're still feeling weak, huh Sanzo?"

They heard his stomach, growling as if he hasn't eaten all day.

"Again, it all comes back to balance and right now, my stomach really needs a balanced meal!" Sanzo groaned, much to their disbelief.

"You could've told us earlier." Terran shook his head while muttering.

At sundown, the group reached to the village where they built the wooden log fence around their village.

"Looks like they're building a fence around their village." Rex noted while he and Max carries Sanzo Hoshi.

"Who are you people and what do you want?"

"We were sort of hoping you guys might have some food and water you'd be willing to spare." Max said.

"Your outfits are odd. Are you barbarians?"

Terran and the kids flinched before Sanzo Hoshi spoke.

"Far from barbarians, they are generous in caring strangers from a far-off land. They are accompanying me on my difficult journey."

"And tell me, where does your journey take you?" The village leader asked.

"It takes me to a town beyond that mountain."

"Then I would advise you to abandon your journey. It's dangerous to go anywhere near that mountain."

"But you've got to get over that mountain in order to get back to your follower, Sanzo Hoshi." Max told him.

"Sanzo Hoshi? ARE YOU REALLY THE FAMOUS SANZO HOSHI!?" The village said, loudly while shocked.

At nighttime, the group was invited for a meal since Sanzo Hoshi was well known across the China.

"Wow! Talk about authentic Chinese food!" Rex said.

"Yeah, thanks so much for all this!" Zoe thanked them.

"It's the least we could do for the great Sanzo Hoshi and his followers." The logger said, passing the beverages around.

"Hey, I'll follow him anywhere for grub like this!" Max said as he eats the meal.

"When we arrived, we noticed you were building a new fence around your entire village." Sanzo said.

The village leader nodded. "We are afraid. Our village is in danger and we are trying to protect it from the monsters of Fire Mountain."

"Monsters!?" The kids said.

"Of the Fire Mountain!?" Terran finished.

"Long ago, an evil flying demon known as Lady Tessan ruled Fire Mountain. She and a giant beast known as the Bull King would gobble up entire villages. Then one day, a monk used his power to seal Lady Tessan and the Bull King into statues, locking them away. That is until yesterday when a tree accidentally broke the statues and released the demons!" He then begged Sanzo Hoshi. "I can see by your deep meditative state that you've already thinking of a plan to stop them! Thank you, brave Sanzo!"

Terran and the kids looked at Sanzo Hoshi, who begins to whimpered before panicking.

"Monster scares me!" He panicked.

"I beg you, Sanzo! That winged she-demon eats entire village for breakfast!"

Sanzo Hoshi then collapsed in fear.

"Wait, did he say winged she-demon?" Max said.

"Yeah, and a giant beast." Zoe said.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" Rex said.

"Shear and her dinosaur!"

"That explains why we detected the dinosaur." Terran realized, "Shear must've summoned it from earlier."

"Yeah, it could be them."

"Don't worry, my friends and I will be glad to go to Fire Mountain and take on these monsters for you!" Max exclaimed.

"No!" Sanzo Hoshi objected as he got up. "Violence confrontation upsets the elemental balance. I will go and deal with the monsters."

"But you shouldn't go alone! It could be dangerous!"

"Very well, but it's not wise to climb on the mountain at night so we'll leave first thing in the morning." Sanzo then bowed, "And with that, I bid you good night."

He went to the bedrest and falls asleep.

"What do you think, guys?" Max asked.

"Well, we could go to Fire Mountain without him." Rex said.

"But if he's not with us, the space pirates might not show themselves." Zoe argued.

"Tomorrow then." Max said.

The next morning, Terran and the kids woke up when Sanzo Hoshi is gone.

"Max, wake up! Sanzo's gone!" Zoe said.

"What? Five more minutes! Please…!" Max said, half awake.

"I passed Sanzo on his way out early this morning." The logger said, "He said he did not want to see any of you put in harm's way. So he was going alone."

"With the demons out there?" Terran said.

"Oh no!" They gasped and left to find him.

"Hold on, you guys! Wait for me!" Max said, getting up as he took his cap to catch up to them.

At the Fire Mountain, Sanzo Hoshi went there to confront the demons or Shear and her dinosaur.

"Hot enough for you!" Shear's voice said, making him jumped as she showed herself.

"I-I come in peace!" He panicked. "Please don't eat me!"

"Yuck! I have better taste than that! Are you Sanzo Hoshi?"

"Huh! Well.. well, yes! I'm Sanzo Hoshi and I-I-I taken you're Lady Tessan, the flying she-demon who eats entire village for breakfast!"

"Not you too! Why does everyone keep saying that?" She said, exasperated. "I'm more of an egg and cheese sandwich girl!"

She then sees Sanzo Hoshi who started chanting.

"Is that some kind of dance?"

"Your presence in this land upsets the balance of wood and fire and water and earth! You must return to your statue!" He said.

"Huh!? Oh, let's just get this capturing thing over with!" Shear swipes the card on her neck plate, summoning Albertosaurus.

Sanzo Hoshi panicked before passing out again and Albertosaurus picked him up.

"The Cosmo Stone will soon be mine."

Up to the hill, Terran and the kids raced to the Fire Mountain to find Sanzo Hoshi.

"We've got to find Sanzo before the space pirates do!" Max said before his Dino Bracer alerted them. "There's a dinosaur near!"

"What if they already got him? Hurry!" Zoe urged them.

At the edge of volcano, Shear and Albertosaurus was near the volcano while the dinosaur hold him.

"Wake up! You can't help me get the Cosmos Stone if you're passed!" She yelled.

"Sanzo!" Shear heard a voice and saw Terran and the kids running towards them.

"Put that monk down, Shear!" Rex demanded.

"He may not be the fighting type but we'll take you on!" Max exclaimed.

"Give me a break! The monk's lame chance were scarier than you are." Shear huffed.

"This is your last warning!"

"You're way out of your league, kid! Go play in a sandbox somewhere!"

"That's it!" Max picked up the stick. "Let's go! Right here! You and me! I'll show what league I'm in!"

He twirls the stick around but gets hit in his head, much to their disbelief.

"The way he swung that stick, I'd say Max would barely make a little league!" Zoe said, flatly.

"Let's stick to what we know, slugger." Rex said.

"Right! Dino Slash!" Max slashed the card on his Dino Bracer. "Go Triceratops, roar!"

Chomp was summoned in full-size Triceratops.

Chomp enters the battle and Albertosaurus tosses Sanzo to prepare for battle, sending him flying towards another deep lava pit.

"Oh no! I need that monk!" Shear cursed.

"Dino Slash!" Rex slashed the card on his Dino Bracer. "Carnotaurus, blow them away!"

Ace was summoned in full-size Carnotaurus.

"Cyclone!" He slashed the move card.

Ace used the Cyclone move and ran off.

"Go get Sanzo!"

Ace leaps into the pit of volcano to catch him before shooting back out with Sanzo.

"Way to go, Ace!" He cheered.

"That was close!" Shear said, relief.

"Come on, Chomp! Go!" Max shouted.

Chomp charges and rams Albertosaurus, sliding up to the rim of the pit.

"Yeah! You get him, Chomp!" Zoe cheered.

"You okay?" Rex asked Sanzo before Ace puts him down.

"Yes, now that the she-demon is gone." He groaned.

"All right! Time to take this to the next level with Spectral Armor!" Shear swipe the card, equipping Albertosaurus with Spectral Armor.

"Bring it!" Max activated his Dino Bracer and pulls out his booster. "Element Booster! DinoTector, on!" He plugs the boosters in his Dino Bracer, equipping Chomp with lightning-based armor.

Chomp and Albertosaurus headbutting into each other several times.

"No! Fighting upset the balance!" Sanzo protested.

"She doesn't give us much of a choice!" Rex argued.

"Yeah, it's not like we can chant our way out of this!" Zoe added.

"We'll see about that." Sanzo said, about to chant.

Chomp bites onto Mapusaurus' tail, but it swings him off.

"Come on, Ace! Go and help Chomp!" Rex told him as Ace charges in.

"Now, heat Eruption!" Shear swipes the move card.

Albertosaurus roared as the volcano itself they're standing on erupts and rains down the fireballs onto the countryside and around Ace.

"Look out!" Rex yelled and gasped when the lava is flowing down. "Get out of there, Ace!"

Shear evade from the burning heat of lava.

"I didn't mean Heat Eruption this hot!" She then recalled Albertosaurus back.

"The volcano is erupting!" Terran said. "We have to get out of here!"

"Balance the element! Balance the element!" Sanzo chanted before Ace grabs him.

Terran and the kids hops on Chomp and gallops away from lava flow with Ace and Sanzo behind them.

"The volcano! It's erupting!"

"Run everybody! Run!" Max yelled.

"Evacuate the village! Find higher ground!" Rex yelled.

"It's not safe here!" Terran yelled.

"It's the Bull King!" The village leader gasped.

"But that's not the same monster I saw." The logger said.

"Who cares? Run!"

"Good idea! Get someplace safe! We'll stay and stop the lava!" Max said.

"I can stop this lava myself!" Sanzo said after recover from shock.

"How, Sanzo? What can you do?" Zoe said but got her answer when Sanzo goes back to chanting. "Oh, not more chanting!"

Ace turns to see Albertosaurus is summoned again.

"Guys, the Albertosaurus is back for round two!" Terran said.

"I'm getting out of here and I'm taking that monk with me!" Shear said, flying towards them.

"It's Lady Tessan!" They cried as they hugged each other in fear.

Shear swoops in and grabbed Sanzo Hoshi away.

"Hey!" Terran yelled.

"You get back here with Sanzo!" Zoe yelled.

"Dino Slash!" They slashed their cards on their Dino Bracer/Wrist Controller.

"Spring up, Parasaurolophus!"

"Brachiosaurus, shine your way!"

Wisp and Paris was summoned in full-size dinosaurs.

As Shear strains to hold him, Paris lets out her sonic roar, stunning her to let go of Sanzo, who now resumes his chanting. Wisp and Paris is attacking Shear, who flew away from them.

"The volcano is about to be the least of your worries! Fire Bomb!" She swipes the move card.

Albertosaurus uses the Fire Bomb move and aims at them.

"How about I counterattack with Shining Blade!" Terran activated the move card.

Wisp used the Shining Blade move, overpowering its Fire Bomb move. Chomp roared as Ace, Paris, and Wisp joins in.

"Don't let those losers knock you out!" Shear scolded her dinosaur.

"Gatling Spark! "Max slashed the move card.

Chomp roared and hits Albertosaurus before rapidly prick and jolted the dinosaur with electrified jabs and knocks it away, defeating it.

"Got your dinosaur!" Max said, claiming Albertosaurus card.

"Keep it! it's useless!" Shear huffed before flying away.

The lava from the volcano is flowing towards the village.

"The lava is almost here!" Zoe cried as the lava burns the trees.

"If we all work together, we might be able to stop it!" Rex said.

"Yeah!" Max said.

The kids activate their Dino Gadgets and catch the move card while Terran used the move card.

"Lightning Strike!"

Chomp used the Lightning Strike move to dig the channels to block the lava.

"Shooting Star Laser!"

Wisp used the Shooting Star Laser move to block the lava flows.

"Biting Wind!"

Ace roared as the knife-shaped winds was thrown from his tail at lava to dispersed them.

"Emerald Garden!"

Paris used the Emerald Garden move to cover the remaining lava and volcano with plant life.

"Oh yeah!" The kids cheered.

"Look! The lava's disappeared!" The leader said.

"The village is saved! Sanzo Hoshi did it!" The logger said.

Sanzo stops chanting and sees the volcano is no longer erupting and covers with plant life, thinking that he did it.

"How did you do it, Sanzo? What's your secret?"

"I asked the universe for balance." Sanzo said.

"Oh, come on! You got to be kidding me!" Zoe said, nonplussed as well as the boys is the same while Terran was twitching his head and shoulder.

Meanwhile, the Alpha Gang was asked to dig the ground for water.

"If we can't bring the rain from above, we'll make it come from below." Ursula said.

"You're as wise as the rumors say, Sanzo Hoshi." The elder said.

"Is it still rain if it comes from the ground?" Zander asked.

"Don't think so." Ed said.

"I'm just trying to sound like monk, you dumbbells!" She chided.

"What was that?" the elder asked.

"Just some private monk stuff!" They said.

They then summoned Tank, in full-size Saichania, to dig the hole for water.

"Oh, I hope there's some kind of underground spring down there." She said before a rumble sound. "Wait, I hear something. What luck! Soon these fields will be flowing with water."

They heard Tank as she scrambled out of the hole in the hurry before they turned to the hole and yelped.

"Why's the water glowing?!" Ed panicked.

They shrieked as the lava spews up as the Alpha Gang runs for it.

"That isn't water they've brought! It's lava! We're doomed and it's all fault!"

The fireballs hits the farmland and around the farmers.

"Run for your lives!" Dr. Z yelled while running.

"Get back here, you! You bunch of liars! Imposters! You miserable swine!"

The Alpha Gang ran ahead of them as the angry farmers chased them away.

"This all happened because you pretended to be Sanzo Hoshi!" Dr. Z berated them. "Next time, I get to be Sanzo! You got that?!"

"Less arguing, more running!" Zander yelled as they kept running.

Back at the Fire Mountain village, they rebuilt the shrine with spitting image statue of Shear and Albertosaurus.

"Your village is safe." Sanzo Hoshi said, "The monster will not return."

"Thank you." The leader said, "And not just using your powers to defeat the monsters, but for stopping the lava as well. We are indebted to your kindness."

"You think we should tell them that we stopped the lava?" Max whispered.

"They don't need to know that." Zoe said.

They flinched when Sanzo looked at them.

"And you four, your kind efforts helped." He smiled.

"Oh gee. Thanks." Max sighed.

"Your coming closer to understanding the nature of elements and universal balance."

"Huh, Balance? What Max need is a course and coordination!" Zoe said, snootily.

"Yeah, or maybe he just ought to stay away from the element of wood." Rex added.

"Either he has trouble with the stick or he was just being poor of twirling it around." Terran said.

"Thanks for reminding me, guys." Max pouted.

"Shall we be off then?" Sanzo said.

"Okay." Rex said.

"Yeah! Let's go." Max said.

"We hope you have a pleasant and peaceful journey home." They bowed in appreciation.

They looked to see the stampede of cattle as they charges towards them and the kids turns to sees them.
