A new morning slowly dawned. The sun poured its blood-coloured light over the sea, and the Black Pearl had finally approached the Fortune.

Rachel stood on deck, nervousness about what was about to happen making her pace restlessly. She was a failure, still not in control of the powers she was supposed to have over the water. It was going to come to a battle, and what was she supposed to do to help?

Tristan stepped up to her. He though acted the mysterious man who didn't want to reveal much about himself, but Rachel suspected a sincere and even trustworthy man behind this façade.

"Soon we'll have caught up with them," Tristan broke the silence and smiled encouragingly at Rachel.

"Yeah … soon."

Rachel looked across the sea until she spotted a small dot in the distance that was the Fortune.

They would get Jack and Tristan's sister back. By now he had told them that she had been kidnapped by Barbossa's crew and that he had hope – even certainty – that she was still alive.

Temari – the woman whose sight had sent the warmth of familiarity through her body, and who had almost come with them if she hadn't stayed behind during the escape. There was something about Temari, Rachel was sure of it.

The wind blew steadily from the stern and brought the Black Pearl closer and closer to her current destination at a rapid pace. With a tailwind, the ship was unbeatable, the pirates used to say.

The crew was still making final preparations, sabres, daggers, everything they had was sharpened again, the cannons were already loaded and some had drunk a fair amount of rum.

Gibbs stood at the helm and was satisfied. Barbossa would be caught off guard by an oncoming storm and would not be able to defend himself against it. Yes, everything was on course for success.

Before the Black Pearl reached the Fortune, Mr Cotton saw a woman appear out of nowhere in the water. She had no clothes on. Calmly, she swam in the sea and beckoned to him from below. As quickly as he could, he ran to Gibbs and waved his arms at him to draw his attention to the woman.

Gibbs swallowed hard once when he spotted the swimmer and shouted to his men to quickly get a rope and clothes. Obediently, Tristan and Ragetti followed this order, and quickly they had pulled the woman out of the water.

"Who are you?" Gibbs wanted to know after the whole crew had turned around in a well-behaved manner until the woman had dressed.

Normally they would have all gaped soulfully, but everyone on board felt they would better show the woman respect.

"My name is Roselyn, but you can call me Rose."

Her gaze wandered around the circle without hostility, and when it arrived at Rachel, it lingered on her for a moment longer than on the others.

"You showed up at a bad time, lady. Tonight we will reach a hostile ship and there will be a fight," Gibbs said, playing sheepishly with his hands behind his back.

"It doesn't matter. Don't worry about me." To everyone's amazement, Rose turned away from them and strode to the railing to peer into the distance.

Shielding the sun from her eyes with one hand, she turned on her heel and smiled again.

"May the wind carry you swiftly to your destination," she said, and at that moment the wind became even more powerful and carried the Black Pearl forward even faster.

A flurry of activity broke out on Barbossa's ship as the crew became aware of the Black Pearl. Barbossa himself stood upright on deck and gave brusque orders to the men.

Temari and Jack sat in their cells and heard the loud voices and shouts from above.

Jack was feeling a little better, but he knew he was far from out of the woods. His condition was still critical. His mood deteriorated to the point of bottomlessness as soon as the crew began loudly preparing for battle, and he suspected the appearance of his Pearl behind it.

He had also thought for a long time about what Tia Dalma had told him. It sounded to him as if she no longer wanted to be Calypso. Perhaps Barbossa was very much mistaken. It wouldn't be the first time.

A loud bang drowned out all other sounds and part of the cells were blown up. Jack hastily got on his feet, heart beating at escape speed. That was close.

The cannon shots confirmed what he had thought. It was the Black Pearl that reached the Fortune and now opened fire.

"Come with me!" Temari yelled at him against the noise. Her cell had been damaged enough for her to get out.

But Jack's door was still locked.

He grimaced. "Yeah, sure. I'll just wait here until a bullet magically opens my cell too. The chances of me getting killed in the process are vanishingly small."

Temari laughed and quickly ran away. She ran down the corridor that Jack had taken the other day to Tia Dalma. It was an intuition that made Temari think this witch could help them.

She was lucky, because the whole crew was on deck or one floor down by the cannons.

Tia Dalma was already standing there, she had inexplicably taken the ropes off herself. Temari's mouth was open in amazement.

"I think you can actually help us," she then said and ran back to the cells.

Tia Dalma followed her at a stately pace.

When she saw Jack shaking the bars like a madman, she smiled and said, " A h, that seems more like the old Jack Sparrow. Let's go."

With a wave of her arm, she opened the lock and the door swung inwards.

Jack jumped to the side and seemed to need a moment to properly assess the situation. Then he carefully crept onto the deck with the two women.

It was pure chaos here. Nothing that made him uncomfortable, but he was unsteady on his feet and would not want to be involved in a fight.

Jack noticed with chagrin how both ships were still facing each other in the fire. The cannon shots made everything tremble and shake. The men of the Black Pearl had not yet boarded the Fortune.

Temari supported Jack, who was just giving in a little when a cannon made the ship tremble. They ran towards a dinghy and as they sat in it, Tia Dalma raised a hand and the boat fell ungentle to the water surface.

"We're going behind the Pearl. She's supposed to give us cover."

Temari paddled as fast as she could, and Tia Dalma held a hand in the water and circled with it.

At this point, Gibbs had given his crew the order to board. The men swung onto the Fortune and now the close combat began.

Rose had offered to search for Temari and Jack on the enemy ship with Rachel and Tristan. Rachel had hesitated, but Rose insisted that Rachel would come along and Rachel couldn't struggle.

The three of them strode through the corridors and looked into each cell. Tristan had rushed ahead a little and he came back panting. "All cells empty. There are no prisoners here."

Rachel gave Rose a questioning look.

Tia Dalma and her two companions had almost reached the Black Pearl, but their disappearance had been noticed on the Fortune.

A giant of a man spotted the dinghy in the water, which was now rocking up and down on the water between the two ships. He ran to the railing and drew his pistol.

His eyes were sharp, he had never missed his target and this time, too, the bullet would hit. He aimed precisely and pulled the trigger.

The target of the bullet was Jack and he instantly collapsed when he was hit in the chest.

Temari forgot to paddle and Tia Dalma also sat motionless. She stared at the lifeless body in front of her, boiling over with rage.

The water stopped moving almost completely, as if the sea was taking a deep breath.

All the fighting men and even Rachel, Rose and Tristan noticed the stagnation of the water under the ships.

Rose looked up thoughtfully. She knew that was Calypso, expressing her irascibility.
