Blue Bloods: Life Goes On

A/N: So here I go again with another story. This time picking up right where the Blue Bloods finale left off as if the show didn't get cancelled. I toyed with changing some things but then decided my challenge would be trying to work with what the show gave us so yes, Badillo did die. Eddie will be 3 months pregnant, the family now knows but not yet work. I have no idea how often I will update – depends on my muse I guess so here we go…

Chapter 1: Life Goes On

It's Eddie's first day back on the beat after Badillo's death and as custom, she as the partner of the slain officer is given grace and been allowed to skip roll call – to avoid all the dangerous distractions of unknown emotions that might come with it - so now instead, she stands outside on the street in front of the 2-9 precinct, next to the driver's side of her RMP waiting for her new partner – a Robin Walkins and as sad as Eddie is about Badillo, a small part of her is looking forward to riding with a female officer again. It's at that moment a male police officer walks out the front doors of the precinct and down the stairs. He looks around, settles his gaze on Eddie then starts to walk over "You Janko?" he calls.

Immediately Eddie looks over and she tilts her head a bit "Yeah…" She slowly confirms.

"Hi!" The officer brightly greets as he comes to a stop in front of her "I'm Robin Walkins, Captain says we're riding together."

A bit floored at the feeling of déjà vu washing over her, Eddie tries to snap herself out of her shock but it takes her a second to even find the words "Robin." She finally notes in a bit of awe as she extended her hand out to shake "Okay." She accepts but the guy immediately rolls his eyes unimpressed "Let me guess, you we're expecting a girl?"

Eddie tries desperately to stop the corners of her mouth from curving up into an amused smile but its pointless "Oh my god this is too funny." She admits. "Wait am I being punked?" She questions as she looks around "Jamie!" She calls out to her surroundings "Did you set this up?"

Robin looks around confused "Huh? Who's Jamie? What are you talking about?"

"Oh like you don't know." Eddie good naturedly ribs.

A look of annoyance appears on Robin's face "No I don't know." he huffs out.

Eddie studies Robin a second "Oh you're serious." She realizes "Wow. Okay." She accepts in disbelief "That really just happened huh? Okay well ah welcome to the 2-9." She greets as she tries to regain her professionalism "Where did you transfer from?"

"Well um actually…" the guy hesitates a bit "I um… I just graduated from the academy last week."

For a good long moment Eddie just silently blinks her eyes at Robin before finally she just bursts out laughing so hard her upper body curves over at her waist "Oh my god that's priceless! Truly, truly priceless!"

But then a thought hits Eddie so she stands straight up. Her expression turns deadly serious and she looks Robin straight in the eye "I drive got it?"

Robin looks at her a little weirdly at her unexpected demand "O…kay." He slowly accepts.

A satisfactory smile appears on Eddie's face "Good." She accepts before opening her driver's door and motioning with her head to the passenger's side "Get in Rookie." She commands.

…..

Jamie is sitting at his desk working when a giddy Eddie suddenly appears in his entrance way "You!" She punctuates in delight "Are NEVER going to believe this!"

Jamie glances up at his wife then looks back at the file on his desk "Believe what?" he simply queries.

"McNichols partnered me with a rookie fresh out of the academy." Eddie announces "HIS…" She emphasizes "…name is Robin. I thought he would be a girl." She thoughtfully adds before dawning an amused smirk and looking straight at her husband to await his response "Ring a bell?"

Slowly, ever so slowly, Jamie lifts his eyes off the file in front of him and turns his head to look at his wife "You can't be serious."

"Oh I am." Eddie insists.

For a moment Jamie just stares at his wife until finally a second "Seriously?" comes out of his mouth in awe at the odds of that happening.

"Very." Eddie confirms.

"Wow." Jamie breathes out in disbelief as he mentally tries to process that.

"I know right." Eddie agrees with a laugh "It was the weirdest déjà vu but this time I was in your shoes and he was in mine and…"

And as Eddie rambles on, this weird, uncomfortable feeling comes over Jamie and before he can stop himself out of his mouth comes "Yeah well just don't fall in love with him or anything k?"

At his words, Eddie abruptly stops talking and instead a delightfully amused expression appears on her face "Awwww, are you jealous?"

"Of a Rookie?" Jamie immediately scoffs in an attempt to cover "Ah, no."

"Well don't worry." Eddie soothes "That's where the similarities end. Trust me." She more seriously adds "He's nothing like you."

Jamie narrows his eyes at his wife "What do you mean?"

"Did I mention he's a rookie and…"

But as Eddie keeps talking a sudden realization hits Jamie

"Wait." Jamie interrupts in trepidation "You're riding with a rookie?"

Eddie pauses talking to answer her husband's question "Yeah."

"You can't ride with a rookie." Jamie emphatically decides in rejection.

Eddie looks at Jamie a little confused "I can't? Why not?"

Floored she doesn't get it, Jamie gets up from his chair and takes a step to get closer to his wife "Eddie…" he chastises in a low voice as he looks around to make sure no one can hear him before he continues "You're pregnant." He reminds her.

"Oh I'm aware." Eddie confirms "What does that matter?"

"What does that matter?" Jamie repeats in disbelief "Eddie you know now more than ever that you need someone out there with experience watching your back. I'm going to talk to McNichols." He just decides as he moves to walk past his wife out of the office.

"Whoa! Whoa!" Eddie immediately rejects as she reaches out to stop him "I don't think so. I want to train him. I think I'd be good at training him!"

"Yes of course you'd be good at training him." Jamie dismissively confirms "Just not now. Not in your condition." he pragmatically decides.

A look of absolute disbelief appears on Eddie's face "I'm going to pretend you didn't just say that because we agreed that as long as I don't have any debilitating symptoms I can remain on the beat doing my job and right now my job includes being a training officer!"

"Eddie." Jamie warns in annoyance as things start to get a little tense between the couple "You know when we agreed on that, you being a training officer was not on the table!"

"Well it is now!" Eddie stubbornly tosses back before just turning and stocking out of the office leaving Jamie alone to stew.

…..

Jamie is again sitting at his desk working when Eddie comes storming in with a piece of paper in her hands and she throws it down on the desk in front of her husband "You pulled rank?" she seethes with simmering anger in her voice.

Jamie calmly looks at the paper then up at his wife "I did."

Now looking like she is about ready to throttle him Eddie tries to contain her anger "I seriously can not believe you did that!"

"Well one of us needs to be thinking clearly here." Jamie counters.

"Are you calling me emotional?" Eddie demands.

Jamie takes a deep breath and tries to regain control over the direction of this conversation "No. I'm just trying to protect you. Protect our baby." He lowly hisses out.

"And I'm not?" Eddie questions in disbelief.

"I never said that." Jamie points out.

"But you implied it!" Eddie counters.

"Look I thought you would be happy about this." Jamie tosses back.

"Happy?" Eddie repeats in disbelief "How on earth would I be happy about going on desk duty sooner then I need too?"

"Because you're working with Detectives!" Jamie immediately shoots back.

There is bit of a shocked silence between the couple as Eddie just blinks her eyes at her husband trying to process what he just said and slowly a knowing smirk appears on Jamie's face.

"You didn't even read past the desk duty part did you?" he queries.

In a flash Eddie reaches over and snatches the paper she threw on Jamie's desk back into her hands to fully read it.

"This is only for 2 weeks." She points out.

Jamie indifferently shrugs "Gotta start somewhere."

"Why only 2 weeks?" Eddie suspiciously questions.

"They are a little short handed right now due to vacation time." Jamie explains.

Eddie's eyes narrow more "And what happens after 2 weeks?"

Jamie jostles his head around as he tries to carefully craft his reply in his head "You'll move departments."

Pretty sure she's not going to like the answer to her next question Eddie prompts "To where?" through gritted teeth.

"Likely back down to patrol." Jamie reluctantly admits.

"JAMIE!"

"Unless I can find you something else." Jamie quickly tacks on "I'm sure I will." He reassuringly advises.

"Don't you have your own job you could be doing?" Eddie shoots back unimpressed "You aren't even IN Patrol anymore! You shouldn't be allowed to do this!"

"But I am."

"HOW?"

"Because its my detectives you're helping." Jamie reveals before reaching over to pick up a folder and pen on his desk "Here I just need you to sign this release." He a bit arrogantly prompts as he holds the items out to his wife but instead of taking them, Eddie crosses her arms unimpressed "I signed one of those last year."

"Different circumstances." Jamie explains as he again gestures for Eddie to take the items.

Even though she is still unhappy the way this is all unfolding, Eddie isn't about to pass up the opportunity to work in FIO with Jamie and his detectives and she knows Jamie knows it too so she begrudgingly snatches the folder and pen out of his hands, puts the folder on his desk, opens it up, signs her name at the bottom, flips the folder closed, picks it up then thrusts both the pen and folder back at Jamie's chest hard while flatly saying "Here."

A triumphant smile appears on Jamie's face as he quickly reaches his hands up to catch the items "Thank you!" he happily accepts as he goes to set the items down on his desk then reaches over to a stack of files. He picks those up then turns to hand them to his wife but pauses when he sees an unsettled look on her face that has him growing a bit concerned "What?" he questions "What's wrong? Why do you look like that?"

For a moment Eddie just gulps as she tries to figure out the answer to that question herself and finally she says "Um remember when we agreed I could work the beat as long as I didn't have an debilitating symptoms?"

Jamie looks a little sideways at his wife "Yeah…" he slowly confirms.

Eddie gulps again trying to keep her stomach in check "I think my free ride might be over." She slowly states before Jamie watches his wife's eyes go a bit wide and her hand quickly lift to cover her mouth then the next second he watches as his wife turns, bolts from his office and all he can do in cringe in sympathetic realization as he moves to follow.

He manages to just catch sight of Eddie disappearing into the women's locker room so he walks over to the door but then hesitates knowing he can't just barge in there to check on his wife but he also doesn't want to leave without making sure she is okay so not knowing what else to do, he just kind of awkwardly stands there waiting.

Unfortunately for him, that also happens to be the exact moment McNichols comes around the corner from the opposite direction. She sees Jamie standing there and slows her pace "Sergeant." She suspiciously greets as she comes to a stop in front of him "You lost?"

"Um no." Jamie awkwardly tries to deflect "Just um waiting for Eddie."

Suddenly the door to the locker room opens, a random female officer exits and the sound of Eddie throwing up can be heard coming from inside the room.

McNichols looks at Jamie, then tries to glance into the room as the door slowly closes then looks back at Jamie "Stay here." She instructs as she herself moves to push the door open and enter.

Jamie opens this mouth and lifts finger in an attempt to stop the Captain but before he can even get a word out he realizes there is no point so he just shuts his mouth and lowers his finger in defeat letting her disappear into the room while he again just waits outside.

Inside the room, McNichols walks over to the washroom and once again hears the sound of Eddie throwing up in a stall "Janko if you're sick with the flu just bang out and go home. I don't need you spreading it around the precinct."

A toilet flushes then Eddie's defeated voice replies "It's not the flu." right before the stall door opens and Eddie appears.

"You sure?" McNichols presses as she watches Eddie walk over to the sink "Kind of sounded like the flu."

Eddie sighs as she washes her hands at the sink and looks at herself in the mirror "It's not." She confidently reiterates.

"Well if it's not the flu…" McNichols begins before suddenly getting a thought and pausing as she starts to put the pieces together in her mind of Jamie not only waiting outside but his unexpected and bold request to pull Eddie off patrol and help him with FIO paperwork for there is only one reason she can think of that would give him the guts to actually do that… "Well I'll be." She breathes out in realization "Then it must be because…"

Deducing McNichols has figured it out, Eddie sighs knowing its time to come clean - I mean it was bound to come out eventually right? Afterall, The Police Commissioner himself does now know so...

Eddie turns to fully face her boss "I'm pregnant." She finishes for her.

Surprised at the turn of events since she walked into the room, McNichols has to admit "Well, was not expecting that."

"Sorry." Eddie mumbles.

"No it's fine." McNichols dismisses as she quickly tries to process the news and the ramifications of it "Quite frankly I'm surprised it took this long." She has to admit under her breath before looking back at Eddie "Congratulations." She adds.

"Thank you." Eddie accepts.

"Feeling better now?" McNichols then queries.

Eddie nods "I think so."

"Good." McNichols accepts "I will let Sergeant Reagan know so he can stop hovering outside the door."

A look of surprise appears on Eddie's face "He is?"

"Oh yeah…" McNichols confirms with a slight tilt of her head "…he is and hey Janko?"

"Yes boss?"

"Welcome to desk duty." McNichols commands with authority.

Knowing she now has no choice, Eddie for a moment squeezes her eyes closed in defeat and simply nods her head up and down in confirmation "Yes boss."

….

A/N: So there you have it. Where I take it from here, I'm not entirely sure. I have a few ideas but nothing is set in stone so if anyone has any ideas or requests let me know. I'm thinking because the show is over and we'll never get to see any of this play out on our screens that this fic could be more like snapshots of what we as fans would want to see in a mythical season 15 leading up to the birth so let me know!
