Rory sat on the steps of the gazebo, soaking in the moment with Lorelai, wanting to remember it forever. She turned to her mom, hesitated for a moment, then said, "Mom… I'm pregnant."
Lorelai's face filled with disbelief. "What? How? Who? I mean, I know how this works, but I thought you hadn't seen Paul in ages."
Rory sighed. This was the moment she had to tell Lorelai everything she'd been holding back. Everything she'd left unsaid the night she slept with the Wookie. From the night in New Hampshire to the fact that she'd loved Logan for the past eleven years—and never stopped. Not for a second.
"Mom, Paul's not the father," Rory said, meeting Lorelai's eyes. "Remember that night in New York when I told you about Logan? I ended things with him shortly after, but he didn't accept it. He came to see me one last time, and we ended up spending the night together. We played mini-golf on the rooftops." Rory gave a faint smile, remembering. "And yeah, I remember Taylor thinking there was a gang in town because of all the golf balls, but it was just us."
Lorelai blinked, trying to catch up.
"The important part is that night, Logan and I said our goodbyes… but we were a little careless. Fate had other plans. Now, I'm sitting here pregnant with his baby, regretting that I didn't tell him that I've loved him every second of the last eleven years."
Lorelai took a deep breath, her hands on her hips. "Whoa, kiddo. Rambling is my special power, not yours. So, wait. You're telling me I'm going to be a grandma to a Hunzberger baby?" She shook her head. "By the way, that kid's never going to call me grandma. But does Logan know?"
"I sent him an email telling him about the pregnancy," Rory replied. "But I don't expect anything from him—unless he wants to be involved. I just wanted him to know. He doesn't check his private account until just before bed, so he won't see it for another few hours. Then we'll see what happens."
Lorelai smiled and wrapped her arms around Rory. "Oh, honey, everything's going to be fine."
The two of them were so wrapped up in the moment that they didn't notice a car stop in the middle of the street, its driver stunned at the sight of the Gilmore girls. But when they pulled apart from the hug, Rory froze.
There, walking toward them across the town square, was the last person she ever expected to see: Logan Hunzberger. In Stars Hollow.
Rory's heart skipped a beat. "Logan? What are you doing here? Why aren't you in London?"
"I was in New York for the weekend, sorting out the move," Logan said, walking toward her with purpose. "I was just back from a dinner at Honor and Josh's house in Hartford when I saw your email. I drove all night to get here. I need to tell you something."
Rory could feel her pulse racing.
"I'm sorry, Rory," Logan said, his eyes full of regret. "I'm sorry for that ultimatum years ago. For being a coward. For not telling you how I felt when I saw you in Hamburg. I'm sorry for letting my family pressure me into the engagement with Odette. That's over now—she left me for her college sweetheart. You can't make this stuff up." He gave a wry smile. "But most of all, I'm sorry for not telling you sooner that I love you. You're the only woman I want to spend my life with. And you've made me the happiest man on Earth by telling me I'm going to be a father. We're going to be a family."
Rory stood, unable to find the words, and walked straight into his arms. She kissed him, and the kiss was so intense it nearly knocked her off her feet.
"Logan, I love you," she whispered when they broke apart. "I've loved you every second of the last eleven years. But we can't just get back together like that. What about your parents? What about London? The press will lose their minds when they find out you have a secret love child while still engaged to another woman."
Logan smiled, his hands gently cupping her face. "Rory, everything's going to be okay. I was waiting for the right moment. My dad's retiring from the New York office. Nothing's holding me in London anymore. I'm moving back to the States, and I'm taking over the Hunzberger Publishing Group. I'll be able to work from anywhere, whenever I want. As for the press—well, what these people love more than a scandal is money. We'll deal with it."
Lorelai, who had been silently watching the scene unfold, suddenly stood up. "Sorry to interrupt, but I might have a brilliant idea about the press."
Logan, looking grateful for any help, asked, "Okay, Lorelai, what's your idea?"
"It may sound crazy," Lorelai began, "but you two love each other. And, honestly, you were meant to be married years ago. So why don't you just get married now? Today."
Rory's eyes widened. "Mom, you're crazy! Even if we decided to get married, there's no way it would work. I can't wear your wedding dress, we don't have rings, and we can't get married without the boys, Honor, or Dad. Plus, it's your day. You've wanted this for so long. I can't take that from you."
"No, Rory," Lorelai said, shaking her head. "All I've ever wanted was to marry Luke, and that happened last night. This—this is your moment. Go for it. Get your happy ending."
Logan looked at Rory, his eyes earnest. "Your mom's right. I wanted to marry you all those years ago, and I want to marry you now. The boys and Honor are just a phone call away. And you know LDB can make anything happen. The only thing missing is you saying yes."
Rory took a deep breath and smiled. "Of course I'll marry you. Remember? You jump, I jump, Jack."
They kissed again, this time filled with the promise of a future together. Lorelai chuckled from behind them. "Okay, you two. Time to get some rest. You were up all night, and you're getting married today. Logan, give me your phone. I'm going to call your sister and that weird Australian guy and let them know what's going on. But everyone else—this has to be a surprise."
"Thanks, Lorelai," Logan said. "I think we both need a nap. Finn and Honor will be at your service, even if they're pissed I didn't tell them myself."
