Jonathan plots a trap for his wife - and practices a defunct spell while he's at it. Arabella learns that a fire hazard can be an immensely pleasurable thing - and misses a whist party in the process. A wonderful time is had by all! (Somewhere in London, Mr. Norrell feels disapproving of his pupil and doesn't know why.)

The day of Jonathan's and Arabella's wedding turns out a little different from what they both had anticipated.

While mapping out the King's Roads, the magicians of York stumble onto the gentleman with the thistle-down hair, greatly weakened. Taking pity, they try to reintroduce him into society. But as the consequences of exploring Faerie begin to trickle into England, the magicians find themselves cornered by a chaos of changes which which will require more than magic to put to rights.

The Raven King's spell is not yet done and while Strange and Norrell have to find their way back home, Arabella Strange and John Childermass have different problems to deal with. [Yuletide 2017, TV & Book mixture]

Childermass could hide in the shadows and move as he pleased, a once thief and now bearer of others' fortunes. But most of all he was Gilbert Norrell's trusted servant, yet how much of his servant did Norrell really know, for there was a side to this man that very few knew. This is a Childermass/OFC story and will run parallel to the events of JS&MN.

Raised in ignorance of English magic, when Mercy Savage's doting but secretive father dies in a mysterious fire, she inherits his extensive library. However, the will also stipulates that she become a ward of Mr. Gilbert Norrell. Mercy travels to Hurtfew Abbey with many questions and a dark figure haunting her steps, seeking to receive his due.

Childermass and Segundus are in love, and they've finally admitted it to each other. Realizing that he doesn't know nearly enough about this sort of thing, Segundus tries to fill in the gaps by reading Shakespeare's Sonnets and John Donne's naughtier poems. The method proves frighteningly effective. This takes place after Ch. 2 of "Loose Ends" but can be read on its own.
