My take on what happened to Durc after Ayla left the Clan forever. This story also takes into account the latest findings concerning Neanderthals and their interactions with modern humans.

When Ayla and Jondalar join a group of Zelandonii bent on establishing a new Cave, they have no way of knowing that their paths will cross with the child Ayla gave up hope of ever seeing again. Fleeting references to past infanticide and past miscarriage. References to events in CotCB and MH. Ayla/Jondular, Durc/Ura, Durc and Danug friendship.

Durc had learned to navigate Broud's temper; or so he had thought. What he hadn't taken into account was his own temper, and that Broud would one day succeed in pushing him to the breaking point. Now that point had been reached, and everything had irrevocably changed.
