Chapter Thirty
Ino's New Dress
Hearing the Itachi story had me thinking about Sasuke so as Naruto was gone on his next training mission I checked in on the would-be avenger. Finding out he was moved to a more secure location after they found him with a shattered arm, I entered the cell wearing my lab coat and carrying my clipboard.
It's been a good month but I see he still has a cast on his arm with each finger wrapped up with metal splints. He moved to the other side of the bed keeping it between us as I walk in.
"What do you want?", he asks in his moody Sasuke voice. Strangely I smell a sweat musky perfume in the air.
"I have been assigned to check on your arm." I lie smoothly so he will drop his guard.
As I try to walk around the bed he moved to keep it between us, "I don't need anyone checking on me, leave me alone." he said with a little more force and a small hint of fear. Good, he is learning I hear Inner say.
Seeing as I have made my point that he is not safe even here I make a show of writing something on my clipboard. "OK, so I will tell the attending doctor you refused my help.", slapping my pen down on the clipboard making him jump a little, I turn on my heels and stomp my way out, hiding the grin on my face. "I will see you later, Sasuke, don't forget.", I sing out as the door closes and the guards lower the steel bars locking him back in.
Mission accomplished, I head back to the hospital to do my real rounds. Shizune has assigned me a floor to work on, it's mostly civilians but I don't mind as it gives me time to think as I heal broken bones and small cuts on children's knees.
Coming around a corner I run into Ino who I haven't seen in almost a month. We both drop our paperwork and scream in joy as we hug and bounce around the hallway like school girls returning from summer break.
I know we are in public but I can't help but give her a quick kiss on the lips to remind us both of what we mean to each other. She returns the kiss and steps back laughing.
"Oh, Karma Sakura you look great, look at you, your almost glowing." She said turning me around to get the full view of my doctor coat and outfit. She sneaks a look by opening my doctor's lab coat to see my professional shirt and skirt that is way past my knees.
"I am so glad your past that faze," she said reminding us both of the mini-skirts I used to wear.
"I know but Naruto and I have come to an understanding so I don't need to remind him of what he has waiting for him," I said trying not to blush too much as I picked up our papers with Ino's help.
"So does that mean you're a couple now?" Ino asks as we both head down the hall.
"Hell no, me and that idiot, are you kidding, it's more of a partnership. I need what he has and he is happy to give it to me." I laugh that last part out hoping to hide the truth about my feelings from the queen of gossip.
At the end of the hall is the lunchroom, its mostly empty this time of day so we walk over to a table by the windows and sit down to have a more leisurely talk. Ino takes my hands in hers and gives me a look, I know there is something she wants to tell me so I wait for it to come out. She can't keep a secret that isn't classified so I wait for the gossip to flow.
Looking around Ino continues, "I have been assigned an A-Rank mission." she said followed by a big smile, "I am going to impersonate a princess." she almost squeals out that last part as she squeezes my hands.
"Wait a minute, A-Rank are for Jonin or at least Tokubetsu Jonin, why did they give it to you?", I ask, being a little concerned for my dear friend and sometimes lover.
"They needed someone that looks like her and I am a perfect match. See!", she pulls out a picture of a girl in a royal kimono that does look exactly like her but for the hair, it's up in a bun with golden chopsticks holding it in place.
"OK, so I do see the resemblance, but what makes it an A-rank mission?", I asked trying to get to the heart of the matter knowing she wants to talk about all the cool dresses and fashion she will get to wear.
"Oh, it seems that someone wants to assassinate her for turning down a marriage proposal to this guy." laying out a picture of a much older and very large man, I can see why she said no.
Getting a little more worried, I can see this guy has money, a lot of money, so he could easily hire a Jonin or even two to do the job. "How are Shikamaru and Choji going to fit into the court?" Are they going to be your servants or advisors?" I ask.
"The Hokage said that wouldn't work as all the servants and advisor are well known so having two new ones show up would be too suspicious," Ino said.
"What? You can't go by yourself it's against protocol for a chunin to be alone on any B-Rank or above mission." I know the rules and so should she and I will not let this happen even if I have to go talk to the Hokage myself.
"Calm down there forehead, I will not be alone they have assigned me a master of disguise to act as my younger "sister" so don't worry," said Ino. I tried to think of any female shinobi in our class or even before or after that would fit the look but Ino was the only blonde I knew of and the Yamanaka clan didn't have any other girls near her ago that made chunin.
"Who can pull off a hedge transformation that is indistinguishable from the original for that long? They would need to hold it for hours, even days without dropping it once. Even the Hokage took years to learn how to do that." I tell Ino, hoping she understands what is expected of this person, after all, they picked her so she wouldn't have to use a hedge.
Ino slides another picture over to me of a 15-year-old girl that looks like the younger version of the princess with her hair in twin ponytails, bright blue eyes, and a sunshine smile.
"Dear Karma this looks like Naruto's sexy jutsu with clothes on," I said looking back at Ino.
She is nodding her head like her neck is broken covering her mouth with both hands trying not to laugh out loud. "I know, isn't it too funny," she said allow out a giggle.
No, No, No, this can't be happening, my Naruto going into a royal palace, the dam fool will destroy it, and the reputation of the village at the same time.
Seeing my shocked look Ino said, "Don't worry, the younger princess is known to be a ditz and a bit of a scatterbrain, Naruto will fit right in." I feel a cold sweet running down my back thinking about it.

The next day I stand at the gate wishing my two best friends goodbye and good luck. Hinata is there and is able to give Naruto a little kiss on the cheek without fainting and I decide to show her how it's done and give them both a fully on kiss with tongue.
As they walk out the gate with their mission bags over their shoulders Hinata slips her hand in mine and leans on me. "Can you teach me to kiss like that she whispers into my shoulder?"

Leaving the village used to be a thrilling adventure into a world of wonders but now after hundreds of missions, with a dozen of them being chunin level it lost its glamour. The only upside to this one was getting to finally go into a big city and see how most of the citizens of fire country live, thought Ino as she walked beside the edema that is Naruto. He hadn't said a word to her after Sakura gave them a goodbye kiss but he didn't seem mad so she didn't know what to think.
"I think we should travel down the maple valley until we hit the river, if we follow the river from there it will take us into Steelport City." said Naruto pointing to the east of the trail we were currently on.
How does he know that, the mission scroll said to take the southern road for two days until it ends at the Coal village then head east for two more days until you get to the river? "How do you know that?", I ask stopping on the trail.
Naruto rubs the back of his head and gives me a simple grin. "I went to Steelport City with Jiraiya sensei a couple of months ago and we took the maple valley on the way back. It saved us a whole day. Besides, Coal village is so dirty I don't think you will want to go there anyway." He tries to make a joke out of it but I know he is thinking I am still that Ino from the academy days.
"OK mister world traveler," I say with a flare, "Lead the way."
"Dattebayo let's go!" He yells leaping to the top of a nearby tree, he waited for me to join him and then took off at full speed to the east. Leaving the leaf far behind heading into an unknown was more thrilling them walking a dirt road for two days but dam did he have to go so fast.
As I begin to lag behind he slowed down to keep pace with me. Thank goodness he didn't say anything or I would have to go all Sakura on him and beat him senseless.
After lunch he took us up the ridge of the valley avoiding the low lands, saying something about large bugs or something. When I ask how large he said I really didn't want to know.
By the end of the day I was burned out and ready to make camp, mister energy didn't seem to agree so I had to hit him with a stick and remind him he wasn't traveling alone. For someone that didn't stop talking when he is in the village, he had been suspiciously quiet.
The camp was a simple affair with a small fire, two tents and a couple of rabbits for dinner Naruto's clones had hunted for us. I offered to take the first watch, but he said his clones would be up all night. After a couple of minutes of trying to get him to talk I give up and went to my tent. I made sure to sway my butt so my skirt would flare out hopping to get him to think about what he is missing.
The morning was again filled with quiet as we packed everything away and removed all traces that we had been there. Not wanting to deal with this anymore I walk over and look at him until he looks me in the eye. I cross my arms under by breast and push them up a little before starting.
"So what the matter? You mad at me for something." I state matter-of-factly, father always said to start with your truth and go from there.
"I am not mad at you, I thought you were still mad at me?", He said.
"What would I be mad at your for?" Now totally confused I take a step back and re-cross my arms over my chest this time.
"I heard you talking to Sakura at the hospital, you seemed really mad about Sasuke's condition, I think your words were fucking Naruto didn't have to try to kill him," Naruto said standing up from where he was packing his bag. I noticed his eyes did travel up my legs and pause on my chest for a second.
I had no idea what he was talking about and I started to tap my finger on my lips thinking about what he could have overheard. Wait a minute, at the hospital, the only time I was in the room with him that he could have been awake was when we returned from lunch drunk and the Hokage told us to go home.
"I am sorry if that is what you heard but I was more than a little drunk that day and if I said it, I didn't mean it. Really I think you should have beaten Sasuke's ass even more if you want the truth." I said hoping to clear the air. I reached out and took his hand, "Naruto, I really want you to know I don't care about that Uchiha at all.", He looked at our joined hands and slowly pulled away.
"OK Ino I believe you, we really should get moving." He said picking up his backpack and throwing it over his shoulder.
Like most guys, he didn't want to talk about feelings so I figured I would have to work on getting him to trust me while on this mission.
We reached the river before lunch, we followed the river down stream through the woods as we headed down to the port city. Now that I know where we are going I push ahead taking the lead so I can control the pace and show him I can be useful, plus I hoped he would at least enjoy looking at my ass as I jumped from tree to tree.
As the trees thin out, I land on the ground and walk over to the river to fill my water bottle. As I bend over I can see Naruto out of the corner of my eye. He is looking at me with his trademark grin and his hand behind his head. Some day I am going to find out if someone used to hit him in the back of the head for him to do that gesture all the time.
"Why are you paying so much attention to my body? I thought I noticed you checking me out earlier", I said hoping to embarrass the boy, but to my surprise, that same smirk appeared as he responded, "Why wouldn't I?"
Ino found herself stumped, not expecting that response.
"I thought you always prided yourself on how good you looked," he said as he pulled some leaves off his pant leg, eyes looking around as he tried to avoid her stare.
"I do, I mean look at me" Ino joked, a blush dancing across her face as she turned away from the blond showing off her ass with a wiggle, as she crossed her arms, "Not that that I mind, but I just didn't know you would openly admit to checking me out".
"O-Oh" Naruto blushed as he waved his hands in front of his face, "I wasn't checking you out, I was just enjoying the view." he chuckled walking up the water to fill her own bottle.
Not sure if that was a good thing or not I let it be and turn to the tree line about 100 yards away. I see a glint of steel and kick Naruto into the water before the arrow hits him in the back.
"What the fuck Ino I said I wasn't…", yells Naruto as I land in the water next to him to push him down behind the embankment.
"There is someone shooting arrows at us," I said pointing at the tree line as another arrow flies by missing us by inches.
"God dammit, I thought we took all of them out last time," Naruto said as he made a dozen clones all running straight at the tree line. I see them all pop in a cloud of smoke but before I get to tell him how stupid that was he grabs my arm and I find myself running up the river using the smoke as cover. I guess he isn't as dumb as he acts.
As I kneel down behind a clump of bushes with Naruto he starts pulling out his shurikens. "Can you sense how many there are?", He asked me, I am impressed he remembers I am a sensor. I close my eyes and relax my chakra before letting it flow out into the forest. Turning to him I give him a nod, "Two chunin level and three others but their chakra is so low they must be untrained or civilians."
"It's the Muoto gang or at least what is left of it, there were 50 or so last time we passed here. They must be dumb or disparate attaching us like this." Naruto said as he sent more clones out into the woods, I assume to circle around to find this Muota gang.
"Stay here Ino, I will take care of this," Naruto said getting up.
Standing with him I say, "I am more than able to deal with bandits, I am coming to." Pulling out two kunai and putting my thumbs in the loops, I get ready for some old fashion street fighting. He grins and gives me the thumbs up as we move out.
As we come up behind them I see two larger-looking guys that are dressed in old Iwagakure uniforms. "I see two Iwa shinobi," I tell Naruto, "how do you know?" he asks.
"They are wearing a red outfit with one sleeve, a lapel on the side without a sleeve, and a brown flak jacket." I rattle off. Naruto looked impressed but doesn't say anything.
"The three bandits are walking to the river, the cowards sent them ahead." Naruto pointed in the direction of the river, "Can you handle them and I will deal with these guys."
As I backtrack to the river Naruto moves up into the trees, Iwa shinobi always fall for a tree attach as their usual attach is from underground. I stop at the tree line and hide behind some bushing to wait for Naruto's signal.
When I hear a scream I jump out into the middle of the three to remove their advantage with the bows. I was right, they are really untrained as I spin around to kick one in the head then shove a kunai into another one's leg. With a back-flip I am in front of the third, slamming my palm into his nose with a satisfying crunch. With all three out cold or disabled I throw all their weapons into the river.
Naruto walks out of the trees looking a little beat up, holding his side but waves at me with a big smile.
"You OK?", I ask seeing some blood on the hand he is holding to his side.
"Don't worry it's just a little scratch." He said but I pull his hand away to see a deep cut that must have come from a kunai. I slap away his hand as I cover the bleeding hole with my palm and using the mystic palm technique I close the wound.
"Your leaders are dead, I think it would be best if you found some other line of work, or next time you will join them," Naruto said as the bandits stared wide-eyed up at him from the ground.
I was, by anyone's accounts exhausted after running all day and then having to deal with the two chunin and three morons. After we buried the chunin I didn't feel like talking so we spent the rest of the day following the river.
At the end of the day, we were looking down onto Steelport city. It was at least three times the size of the leaf village, I could see a dozen ships in port and the smoke from the steel mills adding a red glow to the setting sun. With a happy grin Naruto leads us down to the city gates.

Entering the city we hedged ourselves to look like any middle-class married couple out for a night on the town. The local authorities required all shinobi to register at the city hall but our mission orders were clear that we needed to stay undetected.
Having time to kill as we were a day early, Naruto checked us into a nice nondescript hotel he had used last time he was in the city. It was not in the middle of town and not at the edge, with two queen size beds we looked like any other married couple enjoying themselves for the weekend.
Taking a quick shower to get the travel dirt off we got dressed to look the part then we went out to spend some time in the port city. Some kind of festival was taking place so holding hands to play the part we joined in the fun. The streets bustled with people, and I couldn't help but take in every inch of it." There are huge events like this in Konoha all the time but never so crowded with only civilians". I said.
"Yeah," he said with a shrug, "But I'm not really welcome at any of that stuff, so the only time I really get to do this is when I'm on a mission in disguise". He joked but Ino knew there was a lot of truth to his statement.
Eating street food and playing some of the games was more fun than I wanted to admit to but as it got late Naruto found himself in front of a dart game at the end of the row, I was hanging on his arm playing the part of a loving wife.
"You going to win me a prize," I said acting all girly.
Naruto puffed out his chest and waved the attendant over. "Give me 5 darts so I can win my little lady a prize," he said. I giggled in my hands at his poor acting skills but I knew I wasn't really doing any better.
"You gotta hit five of the same color in a row to win." Say the greasy-looking game attendant.
Making a show of shaking out his arms, Naruto takes a stance as the attendant spins the wheel of targets much faster than any normal person would expect. Squinting his eyes at the blur of color Naruto let loose the darts all at once. The clerk thought he missed like everyone else that night laughs and stops the wheel only to find five darts in five little red dots on the board.
"So red is like good, right." Naruto's grin is from ear to ear knowing it was for the top prizes from the score broad. I point to the prize I want and am handed a 3 foot high stuffed fox with a pink bow in its hair and nine red streamers tied to its tail. Naruto made a show of putting it on his shoulders and running around in circles laughing.
All I could do was join him in laughing away the stress, for the first time in a long time, I was genuinely happy with how this night was turning out. Watching the fireworks, eating ice cream, it felt almost like a real date and we were just a young couple enjoying the shows. It was later as we entered the hotel that I remembered the danger the next couple of weeks would bring us.
As we went to our separate beds I was both happy and sad that Naruto said he didn't need my help with any Uzine build-up. I slept holding my stuffed foxed to my breasts and dreamed of the real thing.
