Chapter Thirty-Four
Boyfriends are Hard
In the morning Ino finds herself alone in the large bed, stretching out her arms over her head she lowers them and the covers back down to her waist to look around. With the taste of morning in he mouth, she rubs her eyes and sees Tomiko sitting on the same chair Naruto and her had their sexual encounter in.
"Good Morning, I see we are alone at least." Said Ino sitting up on the bed.
"Ya, they left before the sunrise." Said Tomiko hugging her knees to her chest to rest her cheek on them still looking out the window.
Sliding to the edge of the bed so her legs are hanging over Ino said, "You alright? Did I upset you or something?"
"It's just you said you and Sakura are more than friends, so does that mean you don't really like guys and that the other day was just, you know, you doing your duty?" Said Tomiko but with the sad eyes of Naruto looking into her soul. How he is able to show so much pain in one look is beyond her understanding.
Walking over Ino gives him a hug and as she is holding the blonde's head to her chest she said, "I would never do anything like that just for duty, I like you and it seems I like Sakura as well." Pushing her away to look down into her eyes Ino gives her a small kiss on the forehead.
"You will just have to get used to having to fight for her." Laughing at the look on Tomiko's face Ino steps back when she hears the door open and in comes a crowd of servants with rolling carts full of food. Seems Tomiko got them to leave this morning by ordering breakfast.
Walking down the long halls of the palace after a two-hour meeting with Masato about security issues Ino was ready to punch a wall or better yet that spy they caught last night. Seems the royal court had an agent of Kumogakure working there for years. Just give her five minutes with that guy and she will get everything out of his mind, he may not be able to wipe his own ass when she is done but he knew the rules of the game before he joined.
Coming around a corner she runs into a tall man wearing royal robes of office, he picks her up in his arms and lays a passionate kiss on her lips. With her arms trapped between them, she is unable to do more than wriggle as he explores her mouth with practice ease.
Dropping her back to her feet he holds her at arm's length looking her over. He seems to take his time and worry creeps up her back thinking he knows something is off.
"You look as beautiful as ever Yuka, but something about you has changed, did you get a new perfume?", his puzzled look and clear intimacy with Yuka screams out boyfriend but that dam princess didn't tell her anything about any boyfriend.
Moving free of his grasp she makes a show of fixing her dress to give her time to think. "Don't do that, we are in public," she said hoping that sounds right.
He looks around and seeing nobody in the hall he gives a small laugh, "I know you don't want people to know about us yet but I didn't see anyone so we are safe." Again she finds herself in a bear hug and once again she has to fight her way free.
Giving him a disapproving look she steps back a couple of feet and looks him over. Tall and handsome with a masculine build, he has a confident air about him that shows he is used to getting what he wants in life. The smile he is giving her makes him look even more charming, she can see why Yuka is attracted to him.
"What are you doing here?" She asks
"When I learned about the assassination attempt I dropped everything and took the fastest boat to come to see you, now I learn there was another attempt yesterday. Do you have any idea how worried I was?", he said putting his hands on his hips.
"Who told you the dress shop was an assassination attempt?", she asks trying to deflect him from asking anything more personal.
"Masato sent a messenger bird telling me they found the remains of a ninja in the shop. It doesn't take a genius to figure out it was that Kumogakure pig's doing.", this time worry and anger mix together to show his more forceful side.
With her mind running a mile a minute Ino tries to come up with a plan that would fit in with what she knows of Yuka and how the personal dynamics would be between her and any man. Deciding Yuka would be the more forceful type, Ino assumes she wouldn't be submissive even when alone with a significant other, she steps around him and starts down the hall. She hears him following behind. "Oh come on Yuka, don't be like that, you know I worry when you get this way". Ino smiles knowing this was the right course of action. Seems pushy women like her and Yuka do think alike.
He follows her into the next meeting with the court ladies, they all bow as they enter and one of them says, "Lord Kujo, we didn't know you were in the palace.". Kujo, at least she now has part of a name, Kujo was the name of one of the generals of the fire Daimyo but he seems a little young to be a general.
"We are here to talk about the rebuilding of the royal gardens, you are more than welcome to stay but we plan on taking most of the day to review the grounds. I think we need more flowers and fewer trees on the eastern walls. Don't you agree ladies." said Ino hoping like any man he would run at the mention of redecorating and flowers in the same sentence.
Giving a low bow and a charming smile is excuses himself, leaving her to face the horde of gossiping women. "So you and Yoritsugu are finely coming out of the shadow?" One of the more ambitious ladies says. So Kujo Yoritsugu, now she has a name, and once free she can look him up to try to learn a little about him.
"We are here to talk about flowers, not my personal life so let us begin," Ino said walking to the table full of samples and drawings bringing an end to gossip for now.

Getting a message to Tomiko that her 'boyfriend' Kujo Toritsugu' was visiting and that they need to prepare a welcome for him was the first thing Ino did as she and the ladies walked out of the meeting to head down to the gardens. Hoping that Naruto would know what to do and get as much information on him as possible Ino put her attention on flower placement giving her a much-needed break. The stress from the past weeks was coming to a head, she could feel it and wanted to end this game of dress-up as soon as possible.
One thing she had learned is that the life of a princess was not all dancing and shopping, it was a big part but far from the only thing.
After a long day in the garden where she freaked out the court ladies by getting her hands dirty by planting some of the flowers herself. She couldn't help it as the feel of the dirt between her fingers made her feel 'normal' for a little while. Getting cleaned up she was able to avoid Yoritsugu and find Tomiko in the grand study.
Giving the guards strict orders to not allow anyone in she walked up to Tomiko and her piles of books and scrolls. "Did you learn anything?", she asked looking over the blonde's shoulder at the messy papers scattered around the desk.
"Yes, see here, there is a canal going through the middle of the city from the palace to the port. It wines around the old city center, with lots of bridges and covered waterways.", she explains using the many maps on the tabletop.
"Yes, OK, I got it but …. you know what about the guy?", Ino stomps her foot, getting a little frustrated.
"Oh, that, Yuka has been dating him for the past 14 months, they have wild sex every time he shows up, and let's see, she acts like nobody knows but everybody does. Everybody but her father it seems, or at least he doesn't let anyone know he knows." Tomiko said but with Naruto's mischievous voice clearly coming through.
"Great! Now I have to sleep with him." Waving her arms around and kicking a chair out of the way Ino walks to the nearest window and pouts. "You don't have to do anything you don't want to, it's not part of the mission so, you know tell him you have a headache or something." Tomiko said, giving the standard, "I don't want sex" answer every woman uses since the dawn of time.
"That might work.' responds Ino, "But you're going to be my backup so get ready to have a girly fit about needing your big sister, OK?" Getting a grunt of an agreement she let Naruto explain his next grand plan to get the last assassin.
The next day finds a frustrated Yoritsugu sitting next to Yuka in the back of a royal barge as it slowly works its way down the grand canals of the inner city. He was burning holes in the back of Tomiko's head as he felt it was all her fault for having nightmares all night preventing his conquest of the beautiful Yuka.
"Look, Look, isn't it wonderful." cries out Tomiko pointing out all the colorful buildings with their silk flags on both sides of the ever-tightening waterway. After each bridge, the canal was a little smaller and if the plans they looked at last night were up to date, then it was going to get really tight in the next mile so that the guard boats will have to be in front and behind not to the sides.
"Can you tell me again why we are on this boat?" The grumpy man said to Yuka's left. He had told her over and over that he had to leave at the end of the day and they would not have any alone time until the next time he was able to visit. The hints and outright whining were getting to Ino but she wasn't spreading her legs for anybody today.
Turning her back to him, she looked around and had to admit the inner city was a sight to see with all the people waving at them, everything so colorful and happy. This was considered the rich part of town, explaining the over-the-top decorations.
There is something odd about being in a city she'd never been before, with someone she usually wouldn't be anywhere near that was leaving her feeling more wired than she had been in a long time. Ino noticed the large tens of the vendors at the edge of the water and the number of people on both sides. Her fellow blond pointed towards the flags and painted walls of the bridges. "Get ready," he said dragging her with him as he made his way to the center of the boat as it entered the underpass of the next bridge, she can see the lead guard boat move ahead with the others falling behind. This was it, the maximum opportunity for any would-be assassin. As they popped out on the other side of the bridge, both of them were immediately engulfed in bright sunlight and waving flags of the happy people on and around the bridge.
The world seemed to be moving in slow motion as she watched the lead boat take a turn and leave their sight. The screams of the crowd snapped her back as time rushed forward to the now. A water dragon had taken out the following boat and was head straight at them.
"How the fuck did a Kumogakure nin learn water jutsu", she can hear Naruto say as he spotted the Jonin atop the bridge. Tomiko stands up on the edge of the boat and creates 2 other clones and screams, "Great wind, Air Dragon" as all three make hands signs and push all the wind into the onrushing water. Both Dragons run headlong into each other with a clash of elements.
As the water sprays harmlessly around them Ino can see that Sakura had been right in saying Naruto had improved drastically. Now a fully UN-transformed Naruto stands on the bow of the boat with 10 clones running across the water at the Kumogakure Jonin.
Yuka is surrounded by her court ladies and Yoritsugu pulling a sword out of some part of his robes, placing himself between her and the Jonin on the bridge who was in a heated ninjutsu fight with now 8 clones.
"Get out of my way dam it," said Ino as she used chakra enhanced strength augmented by the Kyubbi chakra she had been able to store from her little fun with Naruto. Not noticing she had pushed some of the ladies into the water and Yoritsugu to the front of the boat, she balanced herself on the stern of the boat and yelled out, "Mind Confusion", casting a wide area Yamanaka mind technique on everyone on the bridge.
Naruto's clones not having a real mind of their own are not affected and dog-pile on the Jonin as he stumbles and falls to his knees. Ripping her skirt off so her legs are free she jumps onto the water and runs up the side of the bridge to help Naruto. She can hear the screams of the people on the boat as they think she would drown.
As she comes over the top of the wall a burst of lightning destroys all the clones, sending Naruto flying back into the water below.
"Oh Fuck." she thinks as the Jonin gets up and looks around, spotting her he starts making hand signs. Calling on the Kyubbi chakra she yells, "Fire Wall" as lightning and fire mix between them she dives to her right as the lightning burst through the fire into the ground.
Leaning against the bridge's wall trying to catch her breath, she watches the fire burn out, when the Jonin spots her and with an evil grin screams, "Lightning Release: Lightning Net Technique" casting a lightning net over the entire side of the bridge.
Rolling to the base of the wall Ino uses her mind transfer jutsu, sending herself into an oversized man hiding behind a chart full of fruits. The lightning net falls over her body and a dozen other civilians on that side of the bridge, their screams cover the fact she isn't moving as the lightning bastard walks over to her with a swagger.
Pulling a Kunai out he bends down to lift her head by the hair, turning her head this way and that, "It sure is a shame, they said I had to bring back only your head. I sure could find a use for the rest of you first.", his laughter was pure evil as he lowers the blade down.
When the apple hits his head without warning he spins around throwing the kunai all in one smooth motion. Seeing the fat guy grabbing his gut the Jonin grunts and turn back to finish the princess off when he feels a blade enter his leg, as he jumps back he rips his own leg open from knee to ankle.
Screaming in anger he watches the burned and bruised princess stand up and faint as she falls over the side of the bridge. Burning the wound closed with a lightning jutsu he hobbles over to look for the body floating in the water only be find a red-eyed blonde man holding the girl in his arms as he stands on the water.
Dropping the girl into the waiting arms of a clone Naruto screams, Blades of Wind, jumping at the Jonin slicing the wall on top of the bridge into pieces, not giving his opponent a split second to think, he continues swinging wildly hitting everything in his path but for the Kumogakure Jonin.
With the width of the bridge between them both ninjas are out of breath, one holding his side as blood runs out between his fingers and unable to place any real weight on his leg, the other with lightning burns across his chest and arm but still standing.
"You put up a good fight kid but give it up before I have to kill you." the Jonin said.
"Only one of us is dying today and it's not me.", Naruto responds.
As the Jonin form the signs for one last lightning jutsu a rope wraps around his neck and he is pulled over the side of the bridge with lighting shooting all around him. His screams end quickly when he hits the water and his own jutsu puts an end to the fight. Running as best he can Naruto looks over the side and sees Ino standing on the shoulders of a clone holding the other end of the rope, seeing him she waves and throws the end of the rope at him.
As she climbs up to join him, Naruto pulls the body of the Kumogakure Jonin out of the water until he is laying on the roadbed of the bridge. Checking to be sure they find he is truly dead and start to search him for any clues until with a little luck Ino spots a small storage scroll in his boot top.
Rolling it out, she sends a small stream of chakra into it and is rewarded with a bag of Kumogakure gold coins and the mission contract signed by A and Yosuke Akimoto. Falling on her ass showing the world her pink panties, she starts to laugh hysterically with Naruto falling down and joining her as Yoritsugu and all the surviving guards run up from the canal to encircle them.
Holding onto the mission scroll tightly Ino yells, "Take us back to the palace, I have something to show Masato."
Hours later Ino finds she and Naruto are still locked in a small back room surrounded by stone walls with no windows and all the royal guard they had left, as she waits for Masato to confirm her story. Naruto is snoring in the corner without a care in the world, he knows he can get out at any time but uses the time wisely to rest if any unforeseen complications that make it necessary for a more direct path out of this room.
Ino had to spend her own precious chakra to heal the blistering burns that cover her arms and legs. Naruto wanted to blast the door down and find her a medical-nin but she stopped him not wanting to make this into too big of a deal. Nearing chakra exhaustion she crawls over to Naruto and uses him as a warm pillow to take a nap.
A high pitch scream on the other side of the very thick wooden door shocks both of them awake. Having no idea what time or even what day it is they get to their feet to wait for what is coming next.
"Should I, you know, kick the door down or something?", Naruto asks rubbing the back of his head. Ino is glad to see some things just don't change but stop him from doing anything just yet.
Hearing the key in the lock they back up to give themselves some room if action is called for. As she sees the door move a blonde streak of screaming pigtails comes running into the room and wraps herself around Ino screaming and crying about saving big sister, covering what was left of Ino's dress in tears.
A few seconds behind the overly emotional Tomiko walks Yuka with Yoritsugu hovering behind. She looks at them both and with her royal facade breaking as she joins Tomiko giving Ino a big hug and then doing the same for Naruto, with a quiet Thank You to both she leads them out of the room.
Ino can see at least a dozen guards looking like a wild cat had tried to claw their faces off, the sounds they heard began to make more sense. Seems Tomiko had been a little forceful in her demands they be let free.
Walking up the stair into the family quarters they had learned to think of as their own, Naruto and Ino were taken to meet with Masato and the girls' father in the large study at the end of the hall.
As soon as they entered the room Yuka put on the face of an ice queen and presented them to the gathered royal family and their advisors.
Throwing down the scroll they found on the Jonin Masato said, "If I hadn't seen this with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed they would go so far as put a contract out on a member of the royal family."
Hearing soft crying Ino looks to see an older woman sitting in the chair by the window wiping her eyes. She had the look of royal blood and was covered in silks and jewels Ino had learned were of the best quality.
Yuka went to her and held her hand, "Mother please it over, now is not the time".
"I want him DEAD, you hear me father, DEAD," she says through clenched teeth pointing at the girls' father.
Standing tall and proud he looked around the room, seeing the look on all their faces, yes he had to die for this betrayal of trust. They let him in their house, try to court their daughter and this is how he repays them.
Reaching in his robe he pulls out a small scroll, Ino can see the Hokage stamp on the side and the red ribbon signifying an assassination mission. To see in real life the formal document of an A-Rank assassination mission was almost overwhelming.
Handing it to Naruto who opens it for both of them to read, it is an A-rank mission to kill Yosuke Akimoto for 4 times the price they had taken this mission for. Ino didn't know what to say, she wouldn't have to work for 2 or even 3 years after this mission.
"I asked for proof, you found proof and then some, you also found this so I am returning it to you," he said dropping the bag of gold coins they had found on the Jonin on top of the desk. It was blood money, seems Akimoto, the pig, pay upfront.
With a quick hand sign, Naruto place the bag of gold in a storage seal he had somewhere Ino didn't notice, "It will be done, Sir" Naruto added rolling up the scroll and placing it in his orange jacket.
"Wait, you can't just leave now", Tomiko adds to the quiet room breaking the spell of seriousness. "You have to stay until you are healed and rested, I insist." The look the young girl was giving Naruto in his male form had him feeling a little uncomfortable but he was still trying to get back to being himself so figured it was just that.
….
Finding the new rooms assigned to them on the floor below the royal living quarters was not as over the top as the princess's room but still very nice for guest rooms. Naruto jumped on the bed a couple of times enjoying the feeling in his real body for once. Changing into some clean clothes he tossed the ripped and burned orange jacket into a corner.
He decided to go check in on Ino to see how her room was when he noticed she had people in the room with her. Looking in he finds two doctors and a medical Ninja working on her arms and legs to remove any trace of the burns she wasn't able to deal with while in their little prison cell.
Walking down the hall he sees the head maid carrying a pile of towels.
"Hi Arkia," he said as he got closer, "Do you know when dinner will be served?" She slowed down in her march back to the royal quarters but didn't stop to talk, "The family will be dining in an hour, if you need anything you can ask the royal cook." With that said she reached the end of the hall and turned to take the stairs.
Having learned long ago that if you're not on the top then you're on the bottom he headed down to the kitchens to see if he can get some dinner for him and Ino. Walking into the hot steam of the royal kitchen Naruto felt more at home having spent more than a little time hanging around the ramen stand as a young child.
"Hey Kairi," Naruto said to one of the waiters he knows, "How can a guy get some food around here?" he asked with a laugh.
Kairi looks him over and says. "You that new guess we heard about, that Ninja guy?", "Ya that's me, databoy! So we were wondering about some dinner?" Naruto added trying to keep his focus on what really matters, his empty stomach.
Looking over his shoulder as if checking it was OK to be talking to Naruto Kairi turned back and said, "Wait here, I think the family changed their mind about what they wanted for dinner, let me check to see if the chef is OK with me giving the leftovers to you." With that, he walked off into the maze of stream and hot stoves.
Learning back in the door frame Naruto watches the cook staff running around like crazy trying to get everything just right. I dawned on him that he was the cause of many such nights for them when he demanded food at all hours of the night when he was playing Tomiko.
Kairi popped out of the stream with a chart full of dishes all covered in silver hoods and a couple of open wine bottles. "The chef said you can have this, he threw in some wine to say thanks for saving the princesses," said Kairi passing off the chart to Naruto.
"Wow tell everyone thanks.' He said wheeling the cart around and heading for the service elevator. He is going to have to do something later for all these hard-working people. Reaching his floor he wheels over to Ino's door and knocks. Hearing a "Come in." from a very tired Ino he pushes the chart in and joins her at the window table.
"I got dinner, some wine, and, " pulling off a plate's hood, "Duck it seems." giving his best bow before sitting across from Ino. Handing a plate over and filling their glasses they had a nice quiet meal to themselves. For the first time in almost 6 weeks, they didn't have to think about anything but filling their bellies and laugh a little about the past weeks' adventures.
Finding his room two doors down was a chore after two bottles of wine but once found he striped and landed face-first into his pillow for the night.

Bang, Bang, Bang, "What the HELL,", I yell out, why do people always have to bang on my door when I am trying to sleep. I look out the window and see the sun is way up in the sky, Mmm it must be near noon I guess, as I walk to the door and swing it open wide.
"Hi Ino,", I say turning my back and walking back to my bed. The pillow is calling my name but Ino has other ideas as she hits me with the box she was holding.
"Open the box it's from Tomiko.", she said closing the door and staring at me with those pupil-less eyes of hers. I see she has her hair back up in her ponytail with some pulled over her right eye. I think it looks cute but I don't think she is in a mood to hear that.
The Purple outfit looks new but is the same style she has been wearing for the past year. The skirt is a little higher I think, I always liked her legs and am glad to see them again. Thank Karma she didn't go back to using those stupid wrappings. Looking down, I see I am in my boxer shorts and nothing else, that would account for the stares and the cool breeze on my back. Whatever, it's not like she hasn't seen more so I put the box on a table and wave her over so we both can see what's inside.
Opening the box I find it is full of clothes, pulling them out, it is my orange tracksuit but better. I can see someone took the time to make a copy but as I put it on I can feel it fits so much better, and the material feels different. Finding a pair of black boots I try them on, the fit is perfect and I can feel they have a steel toe. I grin and look at Ino, "Sakura can't stomp on my toes anymore," pointing to the boots making Ino laugh,
"It's made of a new type of cloth," Said Ino as I looked over to her, "My clothes are made of the same, it's reinforced with some type of chakra threads so you can't cut them without using chakra."
She pulls a Kunai out of her pouch and runs it over my arm, I jump back a little but I see it didn't even leave a mark. "Nice, so when did they have the time to make these?", I ask as it's only been two days from mission end, at least that is what I hope, who knows how long we were in that dam little stone cell.
"I asked Yuka when she and Tomiko dropped the boxes off at my room, seem the Hokage and her are old friends or something.", said Ino as she pulled out the rest of the clothes from the box and laid them out over the bed. It seems I have a spare and then some.
"So?", I ask not getting her meaning, why can't people just say what they mean.
"Yuka asked the Hokage about us after our first fight with the chunin at the shop", said Ino taking a seat at the window table, when she pointed at the other chair I got she wanted me to sit.
She crossed her legs, giving me a little flash of purple panties, and placed her hands on her knee before continuing. "It was really Tomiko's idea. Seems you said something to her about never having any new clothes and always having to buy from the second-hand store. She got the Hokage to send over our measurements and style we like."
Rubbing the back of my head I try to think why they would do that but coming up with nothing I decide to forget it and move on to something more important.
"Did you have breakfast? I am starving.", I said hoping she was in the mood for Ramen the food of the gods.
Ino gives me a great big smile that has me a little worried I said something wrong again. "It's lunchtime, dummy, I came to get you to come and eat with me." She jumped up and pulls me out of my chair, heading for the door.
Lunch was out in the rebuilt garden under a large maple tree, the sunlight through the red leaves giving the table a nice glow. The two princesses joined us and we laughed a lot about the stories the staff had told them about how strange we acted over the past weeks.
Ino and Yuka acted like old friends gossiping about all the lords and ladies, as I worked on my 10th bowels of Ramen, it was good but still not as good as Ichiraku Ramen. Tomiko tried to keep up with me on the Ramen but Yuka stopped her at three bowels so she wandered off to play with the flowers or something. Looking like a girl and acting like a girl doesn't help to understand them at all.
"Ok, so it's a plan, we will meet you at the front promenade at 6," Said Yuka looking over me with noodles hanging out of my mouth, "Don't be late and dress the part." As she went to collect Tomiko from the flowerbed I turned to Ino, I wasn't really listening to them so I had no clue what was going on.
Ino waited for me to finish my bowel before talking, "It will be fun, we are going to dinner tonight with the royal family. We will need to dress up and be on our best behavior." Somehow that didn't sound like fun to me.

As I was fighting with the butler on how to put on a cummerbund Ino walked into my room. Seeing me she starts to laugh but stands back to watch me allow a guy to pin things called cufflinks on my sleeves. Finely pulling on the matching black jacket I turn to Ino to see what she thinks.
I lost my train of thought as I look at her in her purple evening gown that seems to sparkle with her movements, she look incredible with one shoulder bare, a slit cut up one leg to the hip showing off those endless legs. Seeing me stare she spins around showing me her back is bare all the way down past the hip almost showing too much. The way it highlights her perfectly round ass calls to my inter demon and I don't mean the fox.
"Wow, you look…. " I start to say but I don't have the words, I stand there with my mouth open.
"The lady is stunning, good sire." Said the butler saving me from myself as he walks out of the room.
Ino put one bejeweled hand to her mouth to cover her laughter before saying, "You look stunning too, so come on we don't want to be late."
As we walk out into the courtyard the sky was ablaze with the fire of the setting sun, as the last rays of the day fall around us I am blinded by the three beauties standing before me.
Yuka was in a matching dress as Ino, if it wasn't for her hair being up in the royal fashion I would have a hard time telling them apart. Tomiko was in an all-white gown that ended just below the knees, seeing me, she spins around to show off the form-fitting design. With the plunging neckline that almost reached her belly button, there is nothing left to the imagination as the dress flares out showing the world her wonderful legs.
"Stop that Tomiko.", Yuka adds seeing her sister showing off. Turning to the carriage we all get in for the short ride to the restaurant.
