Greetings, Mgunnels3 here, and welcome back to A Promise Kept Ash's Johto Journey. Let's get this Tournament going, shall we?
Chapter 58: The P1 Grand Prix begins
"Human Speech"
"Pokemon Speech"
We joined our heroes as they were on the beach waiting for the Tournament to begin further in town.
"So Ash, you think you will use Herracross or ask for Primape back for the Tournament? Because Herracross is a fighting type, and there are Pokemon other than Fighting types allowed in the Tournament," Misty asked Ash, who looked down and thought about it.
"I'm not sure, Misty. I might ask Anthony if I see him if I can. If not, I'll be happy to use Herracross, but I'm sure Primape wouldn't like it if she was replaced in the Tournament," Ash said. Misty nodded in understanding as the group noticed that Chuck was back at it, training again for the Tournament, and sighed. The group also noticed that another person was in the waves with another Pokemon that neither recognized as Ash looked it up, and it was a Harriyama.
"Isn't that dangerous for a Pokemon like that? It doesn't look like a good way of training?" Misty questioned worriedly about the Pokemon's safety. "Misty, surfing is something to help with heavy Pokemon like that to keep balance and would help with dodging," Ash said.
"I agree with Ash. There aren't any rules against using that training method," Brock said to Misty. "It's what most trainers in the past used to help with fighting types like Machamp and its evolutionary line."
Chuck noticed this and knew who they were talking about. "I three are interested in one Brawly there, huh? Hey, Brawly, the Tournament is about to start in an hour. You might want to get that done soon," Chuck yelled, who noticed, sighed, and went to shore with his Harriyama.
"Yoh, little dudes, and dudettes, names Brawly. I'm the Dewford gym leader and former student of Chuck here," Brawly introduced himself to Ash and the gang, and Ash felt he was a gym leader.
"This is Ash and his friends, fellow gym leaders Misty and Brock. Ash here was taking part in the P1 Grand Prix and was the original owner of Anthony's Primape, the original P1 Grand Prix in Kanto," Chuck introduced Ash and the others to Brawly.
"Ah, I see you raised a strong Pokemon Primape made bronze in the last one and gave Harryiaman here a run for his money in the match," Brawly said, which Ash was taken aback by this.
"You see, Brawly and I have been the winners of the Tournament in the past few years, and currently, Brawly here is the current winner of the Tournament till now," Chuck said with a chuckle. Ash noticed the belt for the Tournament on Harryiama and knew that he might as well ask for Primape back, hoping to win it back.
The group headed to the Tournament and saw a small line of trainers for the Tournament, a minimal amount possible for a top 32 tournament. "A smaller group this year, huh? Bummer, given that last year, was even double that," Brawly said. Ash noticed Anthony.
"Hey Anthony, it's me, Ash," Ash yelled at him, who noticed and waved Ash down, and Ash ran over and saw Primape and Hitmonchan with him, and Primape was happy to see Ash.
"'Ash, you came back for me, I guess, for this Tournament, huh?" Primape said in an upset voice, thinking that would be the case.
"I was hoping to use you in this and possibly rejoin the team again given that we were finally able to work together, girl," Ash said, petting her head, who murrs at this and was happy to hear that. "That is okay with you, sir," Ash asked Anthony, who nodded.
"Of course you can, Ash. Even though you left her with me, she is still your Pokemon even though I was training her," Anthony said to Ash Primape was excited to hear this. "And I was hoping to see you here in the Tournament, and Primape was expecting to see you during these, but it wasn't the case," Anthony said.
"Sorry, Primape, but you are rejoining my team will make up for the almost two years of waiting for me to call to have you rejoin the team," Ash apologized as Primape shook her head.
"It's fine, Ash, no worries, and don't worry about it. And don't worry about having issues with me. You were willing to try to save me that match, and now I owe you more than ever," Primape said. Ash nodded and registered himself with Primape as the registerer recognized Ash as a former champion of the Tournament and let Ash in without hassle with Primape.
Ash, Anthony, Brawly, and Chuck were in the Locker rooms getting ready for the Tournament to begin and making the announcements for the contestants taking part in this Tournament.
"Greetings, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to the P1 Grand Prix. This year is smaller than a normal gathering but enough for a Tournament. We have a few new faces, returning gym leaders, and a returning champion of one of the Tournaments," the announcer said.
"With that said, let's show you the trainers taking part in this Tournament," the announcer said as the scoreboard lit up. "First is the champion of the P1 Grand Prix back in Saffron City. Returning with his Primape, who ranked 3rd in the last Tournament, gives it up for Ash Ketchem," Ash's face with Primape was on the board, and the crowd instantly recognized him and cheered.
"Next is the gym leader here in Cianwood City and former winner Chuck and his Machamp," the announcer said. "Then you have the current winner of the Tournament and a student of Chuck himself and the surfer gym leader with the tagline Fight the big wave, Brawly and his Harryiama." The crowd cheered even louder.
"Next is a fiery trainer who is part of a group of powerful trainers who are so strong that they are considered as strong as the Elite Four, the arena tycoon Greta and her Herracross," Brawly and Chuck were surprised to hear that she was apart of this Tournament again. The trainers were listed off, and then the last trainer was announced.
"Lastly, a new gym leader from Hoenn, while he isn't a fighting type user, is strong enough to be qualified to participate in this tournament, from Petalburg City Norman and his Slaking," the announcer said as Norman's face, along with his Slaking.
"I figured that he would be a part of this Tournament," Brawly said to Chuck, who nodded.
"Given that you two were rivals at one point, I can see why now he's a gym leader like you and me," Chuck said as Brawly nodded.
Ash was surprised that Harrison wasn't in the Tournament but must've missed it when participating in his gym challenge. "Now for the rules," the announcer said.
"You can use any move in your Pokemon's arsenal without psychic attacks. The match is over when the Pokemon is knocked out or the trainer forfeits the match. And remember, you are only allowed one Pokemon and fight fair, will you? We don't want to disqualify anyone," the announcer said. "The winner will receive the P1 belt, which doubles as a Blackbelt, and the title of champion of the tournament."
"Now for the announcement of the first-round matches," the announcer said. The tournament bracket was shown on screen, revealing that Ash was up against Anthony in the first round. Ash looked at Anthony in surprise. Anthony wasn't surprised upon hearing this.
"Well, Ash, it must be fate that we were up against each other in the first tournament match to the best trainer wins," Anthony said, holding a handshake for Ash, who accepted it.
"The Tournament's first round will begin in an hour. Until then, trainers will rest and get their strategies ready," the announcer said.
With the P1 Grand Prix now underway, Ash now sets his sights on winning it for himself and Primape. What is in store for him? As the P1 Grand Prix continues.
Stay Tuned.
Done and done. As said before, in these types of Tournaments, the first chapter is always introductory, and the next chapter is the start of the match. What you see is what Ash will be facing in this Tournament. The funny thing is I had initially planned on Primape returning to this Tournament from the start. Yeah, it would be nice to see Herracross take part in it, but that wouldn't be fair to Primape, and before I get in the reviews, why isn't this person in this Tournament, like, say, Mayleen or something like that? Who said that Johto is the only one who will have this Tournament? Yes, I will be doing this in Hoenn but much later. It's the first round of the Tournament in the next chapter. See you next time.
