Chapter 71: Dazzling the Water Battle Field pt 2

"Human Speech"

"Pokemon Speech"

The Ice Ball and Shadow Ball attacks clashed as Slowking and Walrein stared each other down. Misty knew that she couldn't let the Ice Ball attack hit Slowking as she knew how powerful it could get out of hand if multiple hits landed.

"Misty is playing smart around that Pokemon," Drew said to Ash, who was in the audience with Ash and Brock, who looked at him. "It's a multi-attack move. While it starts weak, Ice Ball can get even more powerful the more it hits the opponent," Drew explained as Ash looked down at Misty, seeing how far she had come.

"I think Misty knows more than she is letting on, but I wouldn't put it past her, given she is familiar with Juan's student Wallace," Ash said to the group, who now understood what Misty was doing now.

"Not bad young lady. I see you've researched Walrein. I'm impressed for someone who is the co-gym leader of the Cerulean City gym," Juan said to Misty, who smirked but remained calm.

"As a Water type specialist, I must do so during this tournament. While not all yet, this was one that I'd heard from my sisters. Let's stop delaying this battle, and let's continue," Misty said to Juan, who nodded in agreement. "Now, Slowking, use Flamethrower," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack at Walrein.

"Walrein use Surf and then use Sheer Cold," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who used Surf to counter the Flamethrower though the attack did some damage to the attack sending Walrein back and then using Sheer Cold, which Misty noticed.

"Protect now, Slowking quick," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who put up a barrier to protect it from the hit KO move before it could land a hit, only for the ice to cover the entire battlefield, this time much more solid than the battle against Ash and Wallace. "That was close," Misty said, turning to Slowking, who smirked at Misty. "I'm glad you warned me about moves like that Slowking when we met," Misty said to her Pokemon, who nodded.

"Now Walrein, use Return and Surf," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who used both attacks at Slowking before they could recover and hit Slowking, sending her back. "Now use Ice Ball," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack at Slowking. It hit Slowking before she could react, firing another one at the Water/Psychic type.

"Shadow Ball and Hidden Power Slowking, stop it before it gets out of hand," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack at the second Ice Ball attack as this barely canceled it out if it wasn't for both attack combos from Slowking. "Now use Psychic Slowking," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who caught Walrein before it could use another Ice Ball.

"Sheer Cold now, Walrein," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack as it hit Slowking. Though the Psychic was too much for the water/ice type, as both were knocked out, everyone was surprised.

"Slowking, Walrein, both are unable to battle," the ref announced as Misty and Juan returned their Pokemon to their Pokeballs. The ice wasn't dissolving, which made Misty worried, but Juan was just as calm as a cucumber.

"Well, young lady, you've done well so far, and I must say I'm impressed with your battle skills, but let's see how well you can keep up," Juan said as he pulled out his next Pokeball. "Milotic, come on out," Juan sent out his next Pokemon, the main ace on his team.

"Man, both Juan and Wallace aren't saving the Pokemon they're known for using for last does this mean that they have water-starters for these types of battles?" Ash said, noticing how this battle wasn't usual for the two gym leaders, which Drew and Brock noticed and nodded as well.

"If I had to take a guess, he either has the Hoenn water starter, which I own, Johto, or Sinnoh water starters on his team. Remember, he is a former coordinator like myself and, alongside Wallace, is one of the biggest influences on many like myself," Drew said to Ash, who nodded. "How will Misty respond to this, and can she pull through this match."

Misty pulls out her next Pokeball. "Well, you are full of surprises, Juan, but I'm not going to let this get to me Lanturn come on out," Misty sent out her next Pokemon as Ash noticed like his Chinchuo Misty's evolved recently must've happened during the competition which Juan wasn't impressed.

"I would think that you would have more than that as a fellow water-type gym leader, young lady," Juan told Misty. She wasn't phased this time as Juan noticed that look on her face, a face that many trainers he's faced in the past that she was determined to win. "Well then, let's go; Milotic uses Ice Beam," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who fired the attack at Lanturn.

"Now, use Hydro Pump and then Thunderbolt," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the two attacks as it destroyed the Ice Beam, sending the Thunderbolt towards Milotic. Both Juan and Milotic didn't do anything. Misty noticed and knew what was coming.

"Mirror Coat, now Milotic and then Twister," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who used a combo like that, sending a massive thunderbolt storm of a twister towards Lanturn. Misty noticed that this was destroying the ice on the battlefield while doing so.

"Psybeam now, Lanturn," Misty commanded her, who fired the attack at the twister attack, destroying it and causing an explosion that covered the battlefield. Everyone was curious about what just happened.

The smoke clears, showing that Lanturn is now underwater unscathed, which surprised everyone. "Unbelievable, ladies and gentlemen, that attack wasn't just a last-second attempt to stop the attack by using the ice breaking to their advantage to get out of there," the announcer said to the crowd.

"Now use Thunderbolt and Psybeam. End this, Lanturn," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack at Milotic.

"Twister and Hydro Pump," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who tried using the move, only for the Lanturn's attacks to land a blow and send her to the wall hard. "Milotic!" Juan said as Milotic was knocked out.

"Milotic is unable to battle Lanturn win's the match is 2 to 1, and Misty was in the lead," the ref announced as the crowd cheered. Misty congratulated her Pokemon as Juan returned his Pokemon to its ball.

Misty and Lanturn were curious about what was next on Juan's team as he pulled out his last Pokeball. "Not bad young lady. Your battle skills are exquisite so far; I was right to ask for this type of battle," Juan said to Misty, who nodded. "This last one, just like Wallace, is something you should be ready to face; Swampert, come on out," Juan sent out his last Pokemon.

"Misty might want to swap out Lanturn, as she's not in a good match-up against this water starter," Drew said to Ash and his friends, who were curious about what Drew meant.

"Lanturn uses Thunderbolt now," Mist commands her Pokemon Swampert takes the attack, but the attack doesn't do anything. Heck, it doesn't show any damage to the water type, and Misty realizes what is going on now. "I see, so the Hoenn water Starter is part ground, I see," Misty said aloud, catching Ash and Brock off guard as Juan and Swampert nodded as Misty groaned.

"I guess Misty's research didn't help her with this Pokemon, given that only two members of the starters in Hoenn have secondary typings," Drew said to Ash and Brock as Ash knew which two they were given that he had faced Blaziken in the fire tournament and knew that it was part fire type.

"Now, if you are done, my dear, that mistake will cost you; now use Earthquake," Juan commanded Swampert, who slammed his foot on the water, shaking it and causing waves to hit Lanturn. "Now, use Surf," Juan commanded as the attack hit Lanturn, knocking her out.

"Lanturn is unable to battle Swampert wins. The match is now tied with both sides having one Pokemon each," the ref announced. Ash and Brock were worried about Misty as this was something that she wasn't expecting to happen during this tournament as she returned her Pokemon to her ball.

"We're seeing a fraction of the strength of what the Hoenn region's water starter is known for having. Is Misty going to quit, or is she willing to continue," the announcer said as Misty smiled and wasn't going to quit.

"Just because I wasn't aware of the typing of some water types doesn't mean that it's calling quits for me, I made it this far, and I'm not going to go down without a fight," Misty pulled out a Pokeball. "Time we win this match after all you evolved recently, let's go," Misty tossed her Pokeball, and it revealed that it was a Golduck Misty's Psyduck evolved just like Lanturn did as well.

"Misty has been waiting for this moment, and I guess," Brock said to Ash, who nodded. "That would explain why Psyduck isn't doing his usual spiel by coming out of its Pokeball in the last match, so that means that Misty must've either trained him or he evolved at some point in the past few days, as it looks like Golduck evolved recently," Brock explained.

"I wouldn't put it past Misty if that were the case, given that I wasn't aware that neither, Slowpoke nor, Lanturn evolved recently, so we shouldn't question her if she trained on her given that I am taking part in this tournament as well," Ash said to Brock who nodded as they continued to watch the match.

Golduck and Swampert stared each other down and were ready to face each other, and Misty knew that Swampert must have something up his sleeve, so she had to keep on its toes.

"Now use Cross Chop Golduck," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who crossed his arms and charged at the water starter, preparing to clash with the duck Pokemon. "Now Hydro Pump, before it could react, Golduck," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack and landed the Hydro Pump and then Cross Chop on the water/ground type sending it back as did Golduck.

"Now Counter and Focus Punch, Swampert now," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who used both attacks and slammed right into Golduck hard, sending him into the water.

"Golduck!" Misty said as Golduck surfaced and jumped back onto the platform.

"Takes more than that to take me out, Misty. I'm not going to let this battle end like that," Golduck said to Misty, who nodded now, knowing that Counter was in its move poll meant that she had to play around it somehow, just like Mirror Coat.

"We're going to need to go through another tactic," Misty thought. Even though it sounded like Ash, she knew she had to do something to win this match correctly. "Now use Ice Beam," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who fired the attack.

"Waterfall and Ice Punch now, Swampert, and then use Earthquake," Juan commanded his Pokemon, using the said moves in a row as the Earthquake made it harder for Golduck to react as the Waterfall was heading towards Golduck.

"Jump now, Golduck," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who jumped out of the way only for the Swampert to meet it with an Ice Punch. "Cross Chop now," Misty commanded her Golduck, who slammed his arms right into Swampert, sending it to the platform hard.

Golduck was panting hard, as did Swampert, as everyone noticed that this battle was going down to the wire and these two were at their limit.

"Time to end this. Use Ice Punch and Waterfall," Juan commanded his Pokemon, who used the two attacks and charged at Golduck. Misty knowing that this was a way to end this with Counter, was waiting until the last moment to act so it would be too late for Counter as the Waterfall reaches Golduck and hits him just as the Ice Punch is about to land.

"Cross Chop now, Golduck," Misty commanded her Pokemon, who crossed the attacks with each other as Juan was about to command Swampert with Counter. "Oh no, you don't end this with Hyper Beam Golduck," Misty commanded Golduck as Golduck fired the attack close range, causing a massive explosion covering the battlefield. "Golduck!"

"Swampert," Juan said as both trainers tried to get a good look at what was happening on the battlefield. Both Pokemon were standing. One was panting, but the other wasn't moving at all.

The smoke clears, revealing that Swampert is the one who isn't moving, and Golduck is barely standing, panting hard, trying not to faint as Swampert falls on the ground, eyes swirling, showing that it is down and out.

"Swampert is unable to battle Golduck wins moving on to the third round of the second bracket of this tournament is Misty from Cerulean City," the ref announced as Misty's picture was now showing that she was indeed moving on to the next round and in the first match bracket in her group.

Misty ran over to Golduck, who was about to pass out and hugged him. "You did great out there, Golduck, and I'm glad you weren't going to not listen to me after you evolved after the way I acted when you were a Psyduck," Misty said to Golduck, who smiled and shook his head.

"Wasn't planning on doing that, Misty and I know anyone could get a headache. You earned my trust anyway," Golduck said to Misty as the two walked out of the stadium. "Thanks again for giving me a chance, Misty, and I will return the favor and battle hard for you," Golduck said to Misty.

"Just remember our deal when after you evolved, you don't give me headaches and no problems and no more jumping out of your ball unless you were chosen to battle, and we get along well," Misty said to Golduck, who smiled and nodded.

"So that's what's going on; Misty Psyduck wanted to stop all this and get stronger, huh?" Ash said to Misty, who stopped in her tracks with Golduck, who nodded. "I guess you just didn't want me to know what you have planned just in case we face each other in the tournament? It's not like by then, we will know each other's Pokemon moves and how they progress?" Ash said to Misty.

"Sorry, Ash and I will tell you this isn't the only new thing added to my team, as well as my Pokemon from the gym, but you'll see during the tournament," Misty said to Ash, who nodded and respected Misty's wishes.

"Well done, young miss," Juan said, who was behind Ash clapping, showing appreciation for the match. "I came to tell you two that we are leaving for home; if you are in Hoenn, you'll either face Wallace or me, two if you are taking part in gym battles," Juan said to Ash and Misty.

"Oh, no, I'm not planning on taking gym battles, Juan but Ash is," Misty said to Juan.

"I would love to face both of you in a gym battle if I ever go to the Hoenn region, that is, if your gym is allowing it, that is?" Ash told Juan, who nodded.

"Tag and gym battles are a thing in Hoenn Ash, so that it won't be an issue; however, our gym battle rules might differ because of it as it's a 5v5 battle instead of a standard battle," Juan said to the group as Ash now knows that request isn't possible, but let it go as he took his leave.

The tournament was going on as almost everyone was in the tournament except Mandy and Pete from the Indigo League, who was beaten easily by Wake and Cynthia, who was still in the tournament. The next round of brackets came out: Ash vs. Prima and Misty vs. Crasher Wake in the tournament's next round.

Ash and Misty knew that this next round of battles would be tough as Ash knew how strong Prima was, but Misty had no clue who Crasher Wake was, minus him being a fellow gym leader like her.

With the Whirl Cup's second round over, Ash and Misty are now up against two powerful trainers, and one is a trainer that Ash has faced in the past, that is, Prima. Can Ash and Misty push through and make it through to their next rounds? As the Whirl Cup continues.

Stay Tuned.

Done and done. Sorry for the wait on this chapter for those reading my Unova and Johto. You know why, as I was working on two different tournaments. As for what Misty has in store, you'll see as the tournament goes on as for the tournament we've just begun as for what I got in store. I will be working on my Journey's Across Dimensions story next. I suggest you all give it a read as well. I need more reviews, as we are nearly done with that story. It's Ash vs. Prima's match next time. See you all then.
