Chapter Ten: Review of a Padawan

Star Wars Movie Compilation - Phantom Menace Part 8

Radiant VII, On way to Naboo: 7945 CRC / 32 BBY

It had been four years since my Initiate Trials and after a review of my actions I was given to Yaddle as a Padawan. The female Goblin kept me close and focused on my ability to negotiate and control the Force while letting my skills with a lightsaber atrophy. I was not too worried about that as I continued to practice my developing Alchaka which focused on my defensive katas with my lightsaber. My time as a Padawan started off rough as I had three months of reviewing the Jedi Code and teaching it to Younglings while living in a small two-bedroom apartment with my new master. I was eager to get out of the Jedi Temple, but it was not to be as I still had classes that I was required to attend even as a Padawan.

For the two months of classes I was teaching my master sat in the back and watched my every move to make certain that I was not leading the younglings astray. Under Master Yaddle I learned to harness the force and make use of the delicate actions that my Force Wielding perk allowed. Once I demonstrated my ability to use the force as if it were an extension of myself Yaddle had me start using it to maintain starships and droids when she found my interest in mechanics and engineering. After my punishment with the Younglings was finished Master Yaddle kept me as an assistant for her classes if I was not in class at the same time since my You are much wiser than I am perk helped make me into a great teacher and it allowed her to keep a closer eye on me through our Master Apprentice Force Bond. When I was not sparring I was always being forced to use my powers in the Force to manipulate objects to increase my dexterity with the Force. It was galling that the Jedi were keeping such a close eye on me even as I did everything to fit in although when I was alone I still meditated on my personal code.

My first year as a Jedi Padawan under Master Yaddle passed without me ever leaving the Jedi Temple. It had been incredibly dull but useful in honing my noncombat skills and getting plenty of practice in simulators without bothering to touch the controls with my hands allowing for faster reaction times as I used the Force to move the controls faster than my hands could and the more complex starships gave me a little trouble as I could use multiple control panels with the Force but I needed see all the readouts from the sensors. It was something I would need to abuse once I figured out how to see screens through the Force which would make everything better especially if I can multitask with unlimited capacity. The piloting practice helped me greatly when I needed to be alone and had free time I would hop into a simulator and fly across the galaxy.

Master Yaddle helped me hone my defensive fighting style by sparring with me using her personal variant of Ataru. She was not worried about me learning her style as it was meant for beings who were smaller and more agile while relying on the Force heavily to help with movement. My defensive style used the Force to predict incoming attacks while increasing my movements to deflect the attacks away from me. I was not the most impressive duelist as my style was very conservative and energy efficient when compared to others. I could easily outlast most every style out there and hold my own against any other Padawan in the Jedi Order currently.

While watching over a group of younglings with my Master I met many future characters including the baby Goblin Grogu who was tiny and kept in his floating bassinet. I spent as much time connecting with the baby Goblin when assigned to the younglings even starting his fascination with small round objects. Another youngling I met was the Chosen One's future Padawan the currently shy little female Togruta named Ashoka Tano. I tried to bond with all the younglings so that they would trust me in the future when I planned to evacuate the Jedi Temple at the end of the Clone War, but my drawback of The boy is dangerous made thing more difficult for me as when I was around the younglings is when I was watched the closest. I requested to pass on my style to the Initiates but was denied as I had not been a Padawan long enough according to Master Yaddle. I knew that once I finished the Phantom Menace timeline I would no longer be viewed with as much scrutiny, and I would be able to empathize with Anakin as he would be viewed the way I currently am. I will try to save Master Yaddle, but I am not sure if I will be successful in that endeavor although I need to try as I want to save as many Jedi as possible hopefully pulling ideas from fanfictions I have read in my past life will be successful.

After my first year as a Padawan Master Yaddle started to take me out of the Jedi Temple on missions every three months or so. The missions were normally for negotiations or spying on trade disputes as Master Yaddle seemed to be taking charge of the Jedi Shadows. I knew that most Jedi did not even acknowledge the secretive sect of spies and bounty hunters sponsored by the Order itself. I knew that without Master Yaddle, or the other Jedi Shadows the Sith would be able to grow in secret and increase their power unopposed as they did in the cannon timeline. Plagues was active and Sidious would take control after the Invasion of Naboo if I did not manage to do anything to stop them.

Not being familiar with the time before the Invasion of Naboo I had no clue if my actions on my missions would help the Jedi or not. I followed my gut and the Force as much as I could feel it for what I was supposed to do on each mission even as the Force became clouded by the dark side. I continued to encourage Jocasta Nu, the head archivist of the Jedi Temple, to keep a close eye on the archives whenever I visited the Jedi Archives inside the Temple as I knew at some point Kamino would be deleted from their records. I also sought out Sifo Dyas when I could to discuss his visions and the way the dark side was clouding the Force preventing long term visions not about death and chaos. My firm belief that they Jedi were being led to ruin surprised the aging Jedi Master as he tried to make plans to save the Galactic Republic. He was disappointed that even though I shared his worries about the future I was not one to support the Galactic Senate.

Sifo Dyas was set to support the Galactic Senate and disappeared before I could change his mind on the way things were going. I knew that I would need some funds to help with the future beyond what I can receive from my Republic Dataries to fund an army and the only way that could change is if I can leverage those funds to gain more by gambling while I am on the move. Master Yaddle did not stop me from gambling as I turned over the money to her as my master something I let go and did not worry about too much. I would still accept the money each week and deposited the funds into a secret account for the Jedi Shadows something not even the Supreme Chancelor of the Galactic Senate would know about. As those thoughts flowed through my mind I pulled on my auburn Padawan braid as a nervous tick while the ship hurled through hyperspace towards Naboo.

I was the pilot for Radiant VII bringing Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum's representatives Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-wan Kenobi. Master Yaddle had a bad feeling about the negotiations, so she sent me as the pilot and backup for the negotiation team. Remembering the plot of the first movie told me to have the shields set to their highest level once the other Jedi get off the ship and I will need to slip off the Radiant VII to make sure I survive along with taking this week's payment in Peggat or Wupiupi so that I can help with the purchase of a new hyperdrive for Padme's yacht unless I can convince everyone to trade the yacht for a more reasonable vessel. I mean the fancy vessel would probably sell for a decent amount and even fund the purchase of another ship. All that is for later as I started to preform a systems check before exiting hyperspace.

I knew that the Jedi onboard knew that I was a fellow Jedi even though I was simply listed as the pilot for the journey, but I was not currently dressed as a Jedi to keep the Trade Federation from learning that there was a third member of the Jedi Order in the area. While doing the systems check I made sure to link the systems recording equipment to the Hyperwave transceiver along with my personal Hypercom unit. With that I will be able to show the Trade Federation firing upon the ship as it sat in its hanger. I was already programming an automated escape to try and get the Radiant VII and the rest of her crew safely out of the Lucrehulk, Saak'ak, but I was not going to hold my breath on being successful. Even with the shields up I was not sure how much the Radiant VII could take before being destroyed but a simple signal from my Hypercom will send her away. I had already suggested to the engineering crew along with the rest of the flight staff that we may come under fire during the negotiations.

I twirled my Padawan braid resisting the urge to chew on it as the lines of Hyperspace gave way to the blockade of Naboo. I kept the vessel steady as Qui-Gon Jin told the captain to request immediate boarding from the Trade Federation. The amount of droids that were around the hanger as I brought the ship in disturbed me greatly because it meant that I might not be able to slip away as easily as I had hoped. I quickly grabbed my bag as the Jedi Master-Padawan pair disembarked from the ship and climbed down into a maintenance hatch that led to the landing struts. Once I was certain that I would not be noticed by a feeling in the Force to move I used the Force to speed away from the ship over to one of the landing craft and hit my Hypercom powering up the shields and launching the Radiant VII which was just in time to tank the fist shots from the hangar cannon. I heard the shields hold up to the blast but could not see what was actually happening due to my hiding spot. I just needed to trust in the Force that the made it off the Lucrehulk and possibly to a point that they could get to safety either by landing on Naboo or jumping into Hyperspace with the report of the attack. Now the reason that such a green crew was approved for this mission shows through.
