Here is the fifty-fifth chapter in this story released in accordance with the release schedule. I know that this is later than usual and I apologize, Christmas and New Year is always a hectic time for me but all that is over and I've got a new writing schedule for my stories so things should pick up though IRL commitments do come first so I can't promise anything beyond the fact that I will continue to get chapters out as soon as they are ready. Anyway, the attack on Hosu from many locations and angles and for many reasons has begun so let's see how the initial attack is handled by the Quirk Knights as Asta has already rushed off into it and the rest have to follow to help defend Hosu but naturally the villains have their own plans both for Hosu and the Quirk Knights so let's see how all that goes down. That is all the administrative stuff I have for y'all and there are no questions to answer, there is a guest review to respond to which I will do now. Do keep them coming as your support is the best motivation for me to keep producing chapters at this kind of rate.
To Guest (guest), thank you for your review as always. Yup, the members of the alliance that are present above ground have shown up to coordinate their moves and with Shigaraki pissed at Stain this is going to be even more fun for him. Well the Nomu are corpses and in a sense they are like his special corpses like Alfred so it would make sense that he could control them and something that may be explored in the future though All for One isn't known for his ability to share his toys. As for Kurogiri, well you'll have to wait and see if he can or not though there is something different about Kurogiri compared to the other Nomus which could be a factor in things. Do keep reading and enjoying my work.
That is it for this pre-chapter note so it is time to sit back and enjoy the fifty-fifth chapter in Black RWBY Academia.
Disclaimer: I own nothing related to these two great animes.
Chapter 55: Chaos in Hosu
"What are these things?"
Asta's question was laced with frustration as he slashed his great sword into three more of the not quite humans that were attacking Hosu. He'd never seen anything quite like them before. They looked like humans only they had gray, green or brown rotting skin, no eyes, and ragged clothes that hung off thin frames as if they had little muscle, which based on how his sword hit them was an accurate assessment. Some of them even had features that were associated with mutant class Quirks though that didn't change how they behaved or acted at all beyond the visual changes.
Whatever they were, they were creepy and Asta had no point of reference for them but what was true was that they were his enemy as they were attacking the citizens of Hosu and causing chaos and panic all around. That was all that Asta needed to hit them with his sword as he did what he could to stop the sudden and unexpected attack.
Thankfully it appeared that the creature were in some sense tied to a Quirk because every time Asta hit one with the edge of his sword the creature went down as if the strings controlling them had been cut and didn't get back up. However the body remained so the Quirk in question was purely a control Quirk that animated these creatures and not some kind of creation Quirk the way Asta was sure Grimm were.
Regardless, once hit by his sword the threat that the creature posed ended right away so Asta didn't mind cutting through them but it was still a lot of work that would steadily tire him out over time and he had no idea what they were doing in Hosu. Add in the fires that were raging in several parts of the city and other sounds of utter carnage and things weren't looking good for the people of Hosu.
"If I had to guess these are some sort of zombies." Leo said as he blasted a spiral of flames from his right palm into a group of them and causing many to ignite and fall over after burning for a few seconds though the fire died down once the zombies as Leo called them were burnt to ashes. "That's my best guess as they're clearly human corpses that look like what you'd see in a horror film only more freaky in real life. I have no other comparison for them other than that hence why I'm guessing that they're zombies."
Leo had followed Asta out and into Hosu and quickly caught up with him when the first group of corpses had slowed Asta down. From there they'd continued on together as they charged towards the sounds of screaming where while continuing to run into even more of these creatures.
As a result they'd decided to work together to dispatch the corpses despite having never worked together before what with them being in different classes as all. That said, they soon fell into a good pattern that played off their respective strengths and allowed them to quickly begin to mow through as many of the corpses as possible as they tried to help the citizens that were being attacked by them.
However, as of right now, all that had amounted to was reducing the number of corpses by an unknown amount. The problem was that there was just so many corpses that they weren't sure if they'd even made a dent in their numbers though Asta's sword and fire in general were working in taking them out at least.
"Zombies?" Asta asked as he sent two more flying to the side and into a building's wall with a swipe. "I've heard a few stories about them, aren't they dead people who eat living people? These things are attacking people but they aren't eating them from what I can tell."
"They do do that in a lot of media though you're right, these just jump on people and try to kill them." Leo said as he blasted fire ahead of them and into an approaching horde making sure to keep his flames away from buildings while hitting as many zombies as possible. "So I guess that part isn't true in real life. I never thought that I'd see them though. You'd think that we'd have heard of someone with this kind of freaky power after all."
"Well let's call them zombies then as there isn't a better word to describe what they are that I can think of." Asta said as he rushed after Leo's fire and started slashing the zombies that hadn't fallen over from being on fire while Leo trailed in his wake. "But regardless of what we call them, this has to be the work of a Quirk, right? There's no other explanation for them that I can think of."
"Almost certainly." Leo said with a nod as Asta used his sword to finish clearing out the zombies on this street and paused to listen for where to go next, which was hard over all the screams, sirens, and other sounds of battle going on in the city. "If I had to guess, someone has a Quirk that allows them to either resurrect the dead like some fantasy necromancer or at the very least gives them the ability to manipulate corpses as if he or she was a puppet master. At least that's how it works in some of the zombie lore. There are times when the zombies just appear but we live in a world of Quirks and not a world of magic or one filled with supernatural phenomenon so the only thing it can be is a Quirk."
"Right then that's what we have to do." Asta said grinning as the solution to the whole attack came to him thanks to Leo's explanation. "We just need to find the bastard who's controlling these things and I whack him with my sword. That will cut off his Quirk, providing it's his whole body that's the Quirk Factor which with something like this it has to be, and all the zombies will drop. I just need one good hit and then we knock him out and tie him up before calling it in."
"Excellent!" Leo said grinning back. "Just the kinda plan I'd expect from my rival! Let's go Asta!"
Asta nodded glad that Leo agreed with his plan before they plunged back into the chaos. Now, though, they were actively looking for whoever was in charge of the zombies. It wasn't easy given the scope of the city but that wasn't going to stop the pair from scouring it to find the villain responsible for this attack.
While the task was daunting, there were a few things that they were quickly able to deduced that at least narrowed their search radius. They knew that whoever was in controlling the zombies would have to be somewhere central given the sheer number of zombies would likely put a strain the person's Quirk so he or she had to be within a certain range in order to control all of them. Thus, and seeing as the villain behind this seemed to be focused around the Quirk Knight Headquarters and the surrounding area, the boys didn't need to go too far from where there.
However, they also felt that the person would want to watch the chaos he or she was causing, there was a clear sense of hatred and vengeance to the attack given the scope of it. To do that the villain would likely want to be far enough away from the action to watch it while still being within his or hers control radius but at the same time not close enough to be noticed right away or quickly caught up in the Quirk Knight's counter attack.
That led them to the conclusion that firstly the person was at the rough edge of the main zombie army's attack zone. Their second conclusion was that the villain would likely be on a rooftop so as to both watch the carnage that the zombies were wreaking while also staying out of the way of the forces on the ground as the zombies seemed incapable of climbing so all the heroes and Quirk Knights would be on the ground to counter them.
This tactic did mean that they couldn't help with the bulk of the zombies but Leo assured Asta that that was fine as his brother's fire based Quirk could easily handle them and in a way that was even better than his own Quirk could. Additionally, there were other powers present that may be of use in dealing with them because if they took enough damage they wouldn't get up again. Besides, Asta whacking the necromancer as Leo was now calling the villain behind the zombies would end all of them and that was far more important than focusing on the small fry, especially if there were reserve zombies stashed away somewhere.
That was a horrifying idea in it's own right but Asta had come face to face with a Warp Villain before so he didn't doubt that either the one from the USJ or another villain with a similar Quirk had been used as there was no other way to get the zombies here in the first place so it wasn't out of the question that there were more in reserve. As such, they pressed on focused on finding the bastard behind all of this and making sure that he or she stopped hurting innocent citizens.
Finally, after what felt like an age and after the others at the reception had joined the fray and begun to both handle zombies in their own designated sectors and aid in evacuating the civilians, Asta and Leo finally got a lead. It came just as they finished subduing several zombies that had attacked a group of civilians who'd thought that they were far enough away from where the bomb had gone off to be safe only to suddenly be attack by a small horde of zombies that had suddenly appeared from a side alley.
"It's not safe here." Leo said as Asta slammed his great sword into the last zombie and sent it flying down the street where it bounced a few times before coming to a stop and not getting up again. "You need to get further away from the epicenter of this attack."
"Thanks." A man said to Leo and Leo saw him look over Leo's robe. "A Quirk Knight, if this wasn't Hosu I'd be surprised to see one of your branch here."
"We're grateful, having your headquarters here really helps keep things safe as it's an added presence." A woman said. "But it may have been the target this time around."
"We believe so." Leo said. "We can't be sure though."
"Oh no, I'm pretty sure that it is the target." The first man said as Asta came over to them. "Two streets over that way we heard a man yelling from the rooftops that this was his long awaited vengeance against those who expelled him. Apparently he's been waiting 6 years for this attack."
"We'd fled to that area because of these monsters and the fires that had been started so we thought that it was safe but then more appeared from an alleyway and chased us over here." The woman said. "That was when we heard him. He sounded like what you'd expect a megalomaniacal villain would sound like."
"I see." Leo said before looking to Asta. "Asta, let's…ha that's my rival! Hey! Wait for me!"
Asta had already set off in the direction that the man had indicated and Leo rushed after him while the civilians looked on in surprise. They'd registered the robes though so they felt protected and thus did as instructed and continued to flee from where the fighting was occurring.
Naturally neither Asta nor Leo noticed this as they pressed on towards where their target may be. They had to cut through about half a dozen more zombies but soon they found what they were looking for. In all honesty, it wasn't hard to miss.
"That's it, destroy this place my creatures!" A male voice bellowed over the sounds of screaming and flames as Asta and Leo came to a stop in the middle of a now deserted street. "The Quirk Knights will pay for what they did to me! This whole corrupt, hypocritical society will! I'll tear it all down! Die! All of you! Die!"
Asta and Leo looked up and over at the sound and saw a man who looked to be in his mid to late 20s and covered in ragged clothes and bandages standing on a rooftop that gave him a good view of the chaos all over Hosu. He had his arms out and was cackling maniacally though they couldn't make out fine details about his appearance from this angle. Still, it was clear that this was the man who was responsible for the attack based on his words and that was all that they needed to know to act.
"Damn, I've got no ranged abilities with my Quirk, well at least ones that that I know how to use." Asta said as he was still confused how he'd used Noelle and Yuno's Quirks against that Mineral Villain. "We need to force him down to our level so that I can whack him. Unless you can get me up there that is."
"My brother can but at my current level I can't." Leo said shaking his head but even as he did he grinned. "However, I can get myself up there and force him down instead."
As Leo spoke he looked around and noticed that there was an alleyway next to the building that the man was standing on and which seemed to lead into a maze of alleyways. Hosu appeared to have a fair few back alleys and that was perfect as it gave Leo an idea.
"I'll steer him down and force him into the back alleys over there." Leo said as he tensed his hands to his sides with his palms down. "Once he's there then you smack him as soon as you get the chance. There's enough space, right?"
"Yeah there is." Asta said as he looked at the alleyway and assessed it in comparison to his great sword which was still out and in his hand. "That works and it keeps him out of the main action. Great idea."
"Thanks now get moving." Leo said as the fire built in his hands and feet. "This is going to be intense so you're going to want to be clear of my launch zone."
Asta nodded and dashed off towards the alleyway. As soon as he was far enough away, Leo leapt up and then blasted out the fire that he'd built up in his hands and feet and rocketed into the air. Leo could use his Quirk to propel him into the air or boost his speed if need be, it was just destructive if it was near anything as attested to the scorch mark on the ground from his flames. Still, it worked and in seconds he was at the height of the roof and then above it as he bore down on the zombie villain. Of course he actions didn't go unnoticed and the villain turned to him as he closed in.
"Damn it, you lot were supposed to be occupied elsewhere so that Valtos could get rid of you." Rades said, not that Leo knew that that was his name, as he saw the Quirk Knight approaching. "What's taking him so long!"
"Don't know and don't care." Leo shouted as he close in and cut the fire from his hands and feet before he brought his right hand around as he fell towards the roof, he still wasn't very precise or controlled when using his Quirk like this. "You're the villain behind this so you're going to pay for what you've done here tonight!"
"Not until my revenge is complete!" Rades said but as he spoke the fire burst from Leo's hand. "You won't stop me!"
At that Rades leapt back and to the side so that the fire tore past him, the heat palpable, and then shot over the rooftops before it dissipated without touching anything. Still, that was more than enough to tell Rades that the threat was real and with a yell he turned and fled over the rooftops as Leo landed on the roof and rolled to preserve his momentum and avoid injuring himself, firing off another blast at Rades's back as soon as he popped up from his roll while the villain fled.
Rades cursed as he dodged the attack and glanced over his shoulder to see that the Quirk Knight had gotten up after his second attack and was now running after him. While this was to be expected, it still wasn't good as it was too early and not the right Quirk Knight though he did look similar to their target. Still, Rades had to call Valtos to find out what the hell was going on and how much longer it would be until the bulk of the Quirk Knights had been sent away.
"Valtos, come in!" Rades said raising his right hand to his ear to activate the com link that he had with his partner. "What's taking you so long to sort things out!"
"I need to have a full visual of all the players that the Master told us would be here, or at least all the major threats like the Prickly Princess and Mercury Magician." Valtos said calmly over the link. "And they only just showed up in the expected areas. If this is to work then we need Fuegoleon Vermillion alone and the other Captains and senior Quirk Knights gone. That's not an easy task and I need time to prepare my Quirk if I'm going to send them as far away as I can manage."
"Well hurry up or give me an out now!" Rades said as he dodged another blast of fire, this one even closer and the heat was very uncomfortable. "One of them is chasing me with fire and it's not the one we were told to isolate! Other than that I don't know who it is but if he hits me with his Quirk it won't be pretty."
"I see." Valtos said. "I take it that the flaming corkscrews I'm seeing in the rough area of where you are are coming from that Quirk Knight."
"Yes!" Rades shouted back as he ducked under the next jet of flames. "So hurry up and do something!"
"Alright then this could be very useful to us actually." Valtos said clearly not taking Rades's panic into account as he spoke. "I believe that that may be a relative of our target and if he's on the roofs with you he'll be noticeable to Fuegoleon. In fact I'd be willing to bet that Fuegoleon is using him to track you in some regard."
"Seems about right, he does look similar." Rades noted as he leapt over one of the smaller alleyways and onto the next building. "Doesn't make it any easier for me though!"
"No but it will for us in the long run because we can turn this to our advantage." Valtos said. "Lead him to the rendezvous point where you've got a large backup of corpses waiting for you. Fuegoleon is sure to follow in that other Fire Quirk user's wake. I'll dispatch the others while Catherine has her fun. The Master has sent her to add to the chaos you're causing and keep eyes away from our primary target. Once I've sorted out the other Quirk Knights I'll come to your location and send Fuegoleon to Master Licht. Hold out a little longer."
"Fine but if you don't get here soon then my ass will be roasted." Rades said as he ended the call and leapt over the edge of a roof and onto a fire escape that led down to the alleyway as he couldn't clear the gap and needed to get down to the ground anyway. "Damn it, I may have expected it but I wanted no interference in my plans until we had him in our sights."
Leo, who'd not heard the conversation over his flames, just grinned as the villain leapt down and he heard the clang of feet on metal. That was just what he wanted and he trusted his rival to take it from there while he continued to follow the villain from above before he came down to join in in his capture.
While Leo had been on the roofs chasing the villain, Asta had been in the alleyways below looking up as he ran. He was following the flashes of fire to keep track of where Leo was hurrying the villain and trying to get him down to Asta's level. He knew that it would only be a matter of time before Leo either hit the villain and called him up to use his sword or the villain had to drop down into the alleyways. Asta wondered which it would be as he followed Leo's wake.
It turned out that it was the latter as a few moments after the chase began Asta heard the grating sound of metal on metal, which was a fire escape ladder falling under the weight of a human, before the sounds of footsteps and the bandaged, ragged, villain burst into the alleyway about a hundred meters ahead of where Asta was. He turned and saw Asta there in his Black Bull robe with his sword out and cursed.
"Stop villain!" Asta shouted. "You're under arrest! Surrender and you won't get hurt!"
Naturally, that didn't work as the villain turned and rushed off down the alleyway and away from Asta but Asta just grinned as he dismissed his sword and used his strong leg muscles to chase after him without the added weight of his sword slowing him down. Asta was naturally quick on his feet despite his muscular bulk and was easily able to follow the villain as he weaved his way through the back alleys of Hosu.
Of course Asta had no idea where the man was leading him but he was closing on him so soon he'd be able to tackle the man from behind. Then he could punch the villain for what he'd done to Hosu as he summoned one of his swords, and ended this.
Alas Asta didn't realize that the villain was actually the one who was leading Asta into a trap. Said trap was sprung just as Asta was nearing him when Rades burst out and into a vacant lot in the back alleys of Hosu that was accessible from three points with buildings rising up all around them. Inside said lot was a horde of two dozen corpses that Rades had stashed there when Valtos had opened up several voids to let the corpses into Hosu as this was the fall back for when Fuegoleon Vermillion found Rades and he lead the Captain of the Crimson Lion Kings here.
That had failed but he should still come thanks to the fire that had been shot at Rades on the rooftops, at least Valtos thought so, so Rades did as he was instructed and led what turned out to be two Quirk Knights pursuing him to the lot. Now it was his turn to fight back as the corpses parted for Rades and with a thought turned to the entrance he'd come in from and moved towards it just as Asta got there.
"Shit!" Asta swore as he burst into the lot a few seconds after the villain hoping to be able to finally close only to be greeted by two dozen zombies. "Bastard! I should have known that you'd have more of your zombies stashed somewhere near you to serve as your shields!"
"Kill him!" Rades shouted ignoring Asta as Asta came to stop and a rend appeared in the air next to him. "Now!"
"Not on my watch!" Asta said as he pulled out his great sword and with a roar swung it at the first zombie, obliterating its head and causing it to fall over. "You won't get away!"
"I think I…" Rades began but was cut off and leapt back with a yelp.
That was because before he could finish, and as he was turning to slip into one of the two side alleys that also fed into the vacant lot and hide there while the zombies killed the brat and Fuegoleon hopefully showed up because of all the fire, a spiral blast of flames had shot down from above and hit the ground between him and the alleyway igniting the ground there but not the buildings. It blocked his path and before he could move to the other exit it too was blocked by the same fire based attack.
Rades growled, the rooftop chaser had managed to follow him as well despite how much of a maze the back alleys of Hosu could be and so Rades was forced to turn back ready to order his corpses to fight harder. However, as he turned two more blasts of fire hit their flanks taking out 16 of them in a pair of fiery explosions. As they fell, Asta quickly cut down the others, a single hit from his sword all he needed to sever Rades's control which really disturbed Rades because a blunt sword, he'd deduced that from the lack of cuts on the zombies, shouldn't end them.
"Good job rival." Leo said as landed in the lot behind Asta with a little fire to arrest his descent and moved forward to stand next to Asta before they both walked forward while the fires burning the zombies died out leaving naught but ash and Rades backed up against the building behind him, his jaw clenched in worry. "Looks like we've got the villain cornered just as we intended."
"Yup." Asta said grinning. "Now to end this and protect the people of this city."
Rades growled but he wasn't out yet, he just had to hold out until Valtos showed up. That wasn't looking good though and Asta and Leo slowly approached the villain ready to end this madman's attack. As they did, Asta hoped that the others were doing alright as well.
"Damn it Tenya! Why'd you run off by yourself in the middle of a crisis!"
The voice, an older male's that they didn't recognize, got Nero and Noelle's attention and they ran towards it though what really got their focus was the fact that he'd used Ida's first name which just so happed to also be his hero name. Nero at least recalled that he was doing his internship here so if they ran into him then he might be able to help them out. As such she hurried over to the voice with Noelle just behind her ignoring that they were heading towards fire and the sounds of heavy conflict.
After Asta and Leo had run off, Fuegoleon had taken charge and issued orders to the gather Quirk Knights and dispatched them with Shiren relaying where the worst damage was based on the model he'd stayed back to make. The teams were based on Squads and as such Fuegoleon had taken the Black Bull interns with him to find Leo and Asta.
It had been a simple plan and Fuegoleon had used his Quirk to make a flaming lion to carry them while assuring them that the fire wouldn't burn them but before they could get on, a massive horde of walking corpses for lack of a better term, none of them called the things zombies like Leo and Asta did, appeared and attacked. Fuegoleon had ordered the girls to run and not engage as while he'd given permission for them to use their Quirks, they still weren't licensed so lacked experience in such situations so they'd be better served helping evacuate civilians and putting out fires while he handled them and then found Leo and Asta.
Neither girl had particularly wanted to be separated from Fuegoleon as he was one of the strongest Quirk Knights but they understood that he the best to handle the corpses as they went down easily to his flaming lion. They'd just get in his way if they stayed so they'd done as instructed and ran away from the attack and headed towards the nearest source of flames that hadn't been created by either Fuegoleon or Leo.
This was for the best anyway because while Nero could seal the corpses' bodies up to knock them down, Noelle's water would only blasted them back, it didn't keep them down. As such they weren't much use against the corpses so running into Hosu to find where they could help out was the best course of action for them.
It turned out that all they could really do when it came to the evacuations was open up paths for civilians to run through by having Noelle blast the corpses that were harassing them away with water. They did just that as they rushed into Hosu and tried to followed Fuegoleon's orders.
However, given their limited success with the corpses, the girls instead decided to focus on the fires and ran to where there was an intense blaze though they still helped civilians whenever they could. There were of course corpses that got in their way as they ran towards the fire but Nero could seal them up with a touch, Noelle wasn't sure how she could do that if they didn't have muscles and Nero didn't elaborate as there was no time to do so. That was fine with Noelle though as helping out came before trying to understand the nuances of Nero's Quirk.
It hadn't been easy going but they'd managed until they got near the major conflagration and heard the voice, which was coming from the area that was on fire, calling for Ida and rushed towards it. Once there though, both came up short and stayed at the edge of the carnage as they stared in horror at what was going on.
Before them, and in some kind of major downtown area given the road barriers, the tall building around them, and island thing in the middle of the road, there were a few dozen corpses moving around and attacking anyone who moved while two large creatures with brains spilling out ran rampant through everything. One of the two large creatures had wings and was light gray while the other was similar to the thing they'd seen at the USJ only without the beak that that one had had.
All the while, fires raged throughout the area though they only affected the corpses and not the brain creatures, while pro heroes tried to fight the various monsters and not having much success against them. At the same time they were also trying to contain the fire as a hero in blue was directing water from a broken fire hydrant at the fires but it wasn't enough to quench the flames.
"Hey kid, you're in the way." A woman's voice called out getting their attention as they watched the scene and turning to see a blonde woman in a green and white costume with a red bandana around her neck standing before a familiar kid with spikey green hair who was now in a dark green hero costume that looked better than his original costume while still maintaining its design and style. "Get out of here while we hold these things back. You need to evacuate with everyone else."
"I really could have used the extra hands with this!" The pro in blue, who Nero deduced had to be the Normal Hero: Manual and thus head of the Hero Agency that Ida was interning at, shouted as he manipulated the water into the flames. "I can't make a dent in this fire!"
"Noelle, you know that that won't work." Nero said turning to her friend, her voice getting Izuku's attention as he processed Ida's decision to run off and not help out with the current situation. "Where's the nearest source of water and by source I mean a lot of it. I don't know how Manual's Quirk works but I get the feeling that yours, while similar, doesn't have whatever drawback his has that's preventing him from putting out this fire."
"One sec." Noelle said as she closed her eyes and focused on her Quirk. "I'll find it."
Thanks to Hydromancy Noelle could sense any source of water that was within her Quirk's range. Over the years she'd gotten used to it and did her best to ignore the feeling. It helped that she only used the water that she had on her when she used her Quirk though that was also because when she did focus on other sources of water she usually lost control. However, she was a little more confident now and so she felt that she could find the water without any issue. As such, she opened her senses up to all the water around focusing solely on finding it and not interfering with it.
As she did, Nero looked over to Izuku who was staring in surprise at their presence clearly not expecting it. With all the sounds and the heroes fighting the creatures it would be a distraction if they spoke so Nero just pointed to Noelle and then the fire.
Izuku got what she meant right away. He wasn't sure why they were here but he was grateful, if anyone could handle quenching flames it was Silva and Nero seemed confident in her ability to assist so Izuku left them as they'd be of help and turned to run away from where he'd be a hinderance and do something that would actually help the heroes, finding Ida.
That was because Izuku had deduced that something was seriously off about the situation in Hosu and rushed to find his friend before he did anything drastic. He hoped that Ida wouldn't but he had chosen an agency in Hosu City, the very place where his brother had been attacked and paralyzed by Stain and based on Stain's pattern he was still here so Izuku rushed off to try and get to Ida before he did anything drastic like try to find and fight Stain.
Noelle was, of course, aware of none of this. She was focused on her task and quickly she found where all the water below them was. From there she tracked the water that was flowing to the hydrant that Manual was using and removed it from her mental map. She needed a larger source of water than what was connected to the hydrant, which meant that she needed either a major water main for the city or the sewers and she'd only use that source if she had no other choice.
"There!" Noelle said her eyes snapping open as she pointed to a spot behind Nero and ran her finger along it. "A large water main runs underground there that isn't too deep like the sewers are. I can burst it and force the water to the surface but it will take a lot of power to do so, so I'll likely lose control of the water and cause a lot of damage in the process."
"Leave the access problem to me." Nero said as she turned and ran to where Noelle was pointing before standing over the spot and looking back at Noelle who nodded that Nero was above it. "Just get behind me and act as soon as I give you the opening."
Noelle didn't know what that meant but she trusted Nero by this point and so she ran over as Nero turned to look out over the fire and battle that the heroes were having with the creatures and thus not aware of the girls' presence before she fell to her knees and slammed her palms into the ground. As she did, her hands glowed bright blue and her hair seemed to fly up as she poured her Quirk into the ground looking for what she needed to make this work.
"What are you doing?" Noelle asked. "Can you really get to the water main with Sealing?"
"Sealing is an esoteric Quirk and thanks to my prin…my old friend I've learned a lot of strange and inventive uses for it beyond what my parents thought it could be used for." Nero said as she focused on the ground and found the cracks in it. "His thinking was similar to Midoriya's in that regard so I've turned Sealing into something that I never thought it would be."
"Really?" Noelle asked surprised. "I know you've done things with it that aren't expected but still, I can't see anything that can be sealed or unsealed in the ground right now."
"That's because you only see the surface level, that's how I used to see my Quirk as well." Nero said. "But it's more than that. For example, I can unseal the molecular structure of the cement and turn it from a solid back to a liquid if I wanted but that wouldn't be useful so I'm going to unseal all the cracks as much as possible though fixing things may be hard as I'm going to have to rip apart the ground to get to the pipe. We're going to get Captain Yami in trouble for this."
"Better that than heroes and civilians die while Hosu burns." Noelle said not fully understanding what Nero was doing but trusting that she knew the limits of her own Quirk best. "Do it."
Nero just nodded as she found the path and with a shove of her power a crack appeared that suddenly widened as Nero used what she'd created to unseal more of the ground below her. This caused Noelle to leap back but Nero couldn't and fell into it though that was part of the plan. The sound of the ground cracking open got the attention of a few heroes who looked over to see the Noelle there in her Quirk Knight robe.
"Quirk Knights here to help?" The woman who'd spoken to Izuku asked. "Why?"
"This is where our Headquarters are and it was attacked by the walking corpses." Noelle said as Nero landed in a crouch on a large metal tube that she placed her hand on this time focusing on the seam between the pipes as that would be easier to both unseal and reseal when Noelle was done. "Others are handling them; I can control water so I'm here to sort out the flames."
"That's great but as you can see it's not working well." Manual shouted not looking over at the fellow water Quirk user who was present. "I'm trying but I can't do more than direct this. The air pressure is weakening my Quirk."
"Noelle, I'm going to release the water." Nero shouted from below getting Noelle's attention as she looked down to see Nero's hand on the tube right where a seam was. "It's going to geyser up when I do, take control and drench the fire then cut it off and maintain the flow while I fix it."
"I, I don't know if I can control that much fast water." Noelle admitted her insecurities and worries coming crashing back now that the moment was at hand. "Plus you're down there so you'll get hurt from the water shooting up."
"Don't mind me, I'll be fine, just trust yourself, you can do it." Nero said not looking up at Noelle as she focused on how best to unseal the pipe so that it could be resealed. "And I trust you as well. I know you can and so does Asta!"
Noelle gulped but the vote of confidence from Nero, and the invocation of Asta, gave her the courage that she needed. This wasn't to fight; this was to save lives and so Noelle knew that she could do it.
"Alright, I'm ready." Noelle said. "Release it!"
Nero just nodded as she unsealed the seam and suddenly opened up the pipe. Instantly water geysered up and knocked Nero back into the wedge she'd created causing her to gasp in pain and scraping her exposed shoulders while drenching her but she didn't care, the water was free and that was all she had to do. She had faith in Noelle doing the rest.
Noelle held out her right hand, her wand gripped tightly in it, and focused on channeling her power through the wand to control it before she hit the water with her Quirk. When she did, she bent the water forward and redirected it over the whole area. This time it was a full downpour of water that Noelle was now speeding up and moving around so as to hit the fires, corpses, and brain creatures while the pros looked on in stunned silence. As they did, Noelle thrust out her left hand and grabbed the water from the hydrant and added that to the flames, her brown furrowed and jaw clenched as she worked.
It was hard, she was fighting both the speed of the water and her own fears of losing control of her Quirk as this was more water than she was used to controlling but she focused on the fact that this was to save lives and quench the flames to maintain control. As she did, Asta's smiling face flashed in her mind along with all his usual encouraging words that he offered her when they trained and that gave her the strength that she needed to keep her hold on the water and move the it around as best she could so that it covered all the fires.
Unlike with what Manual had done, this time the fires were quickly put out by the high pressured blast of water while corpses flew around and those that hadn't fallen to the fire were scattered. The flying brain thing flew up and out of the way while the other just stood its ground and wasn't moved by the water at all but that was fine as Noelle focused on dousing the fires until finally they were out.
Only then did she release her control over the fire hydrant water, which went back to shooting up into the air, and focus on the water main water. With a slash of her left hand she cut it off at the same time as she thrust her wand down to push the water back in while the water that had been cut off flew up until gravity took over and then fell down drenching her and Nero though Nero was already soaking. Noelle ignored that as she focused on holding down the water as that was easier then actually making it flow the normal way.
"Nero, I can't hold this much longer." Noelle said as sweat dripped down her face and she grit her teeth hard. "Seal it up."
Nero didn't need telling twice, she stepped forward and placed her foot over the opening. Her soul glowed blue and a few seconds later she removed it to reveal that she'd sealed up the pipe. Noelle let out a sigh of relief and fell to her knees panting from the effort while the heroes looked on stunned.
"Damn, the Quirk Knights have some strong members." One hero said. "I think there's another with her because that crack doesn't look natural."
"She kinda looks familiar." The woman said. "I think she was in the recent U.A. Sports Festival so she's still just a student. Damn, she's gotta be from one of the notable families if she has power like that."
"Dwell on that later!" Manual shouted as the monstrous brain thing roared reminding them that it was still there and still the biggest threat in the area. "We still have to fight these things."
"Right." A male hero said.
"Girl, get out of here." The woman called out to them. "Thanks for your help but we got this now."
"Will do, we're no use in this fight anyway." Noelle said as she got to her feet and looked down to see Nero was using sealing to climb out of the crack. "Nero, here, take my hand."
Noelle lowered her hand and Nero clasped it so that Noelle could heave her out of the crack. Nero came out quickly and on all fours before Noelle stood up and helped Nero to her feet in the process.
"Thanks, I needed that encouragement." Noelle said as she let go of Nero's hand. "I don't know if I could have done it without support."
"You'll be a great Quirk Knight, Noelle, and Asta will need you by his side supporting him when he rises to the top." Nero said. "You just need the confidence and U.A. is helping there."
"Well this certainly helps." Noelle said flushing a bit at being by Asta's side but quickly denying that it was for any reason other than the fact that she was his friend and battle partner. "I seem to be owing you a lot."
"We can talk about the reception later." Nero said as the fighting resumed behind her. "For now, let's go find Fuegoleon and see what's going on there as the major fire has been contained and most civilians should have evacuated by now."
"Right, I hope that Asta's ok." Noelle said. "And the others for that matter."
Nero nodded in agreement at that though she was sure that Asta would be fine. Still, they needed to catch up with him as soon as possible so the pair turned and left the brain creatures to the pro heroes from the normal branch and hurried back into Hosu looking around for any sign of a burning lion that would show them where Fuegoleon was all while hoping that the others from the reception were doing their parts as well.
"This way!" Mimosa called out as she directed fleeing civilians using vines she'd generated with her seeds towards Yuno. "We'll make sure that you get out safely."
"Just run into the star." Yuno said calmly as the civilians approached. "It will take you to a location that one of the Hero Agencies in the city has set up far away from the villain attack going on."
To make his point, Yuno held up his phone showing a live stream of the location that was at the edge of Hosu and safely away from where all the chaos was occurring. There people were being tended to by heroes who wouldn't be of use in the chaos as well as members of the Quirk Knight support staff that had been sent there by Marx. Amongst them was a shining star and when a civilian touched the one by Yuno, he or she was transported to the one on the screen in a few seconds. It really helped put people at ease and as a result they were evacuating in a quick and orderly fashion.
When Fuegoleon had dispatched the Quirk Knights he'd kept them together by Squad to make things easier. After that they used Shiren's directions once they'd left the building to head to the areas that they were best served by groups of Quirk Knights.
Based on numbers, the two Blue Rose Knights had gone to an area that was overrun but manageable for a Quirk Knight Captain and a U.A. work study student of while the Silver Eagle trio went out to an area that was heavily on fire as they had someone with a water based Quirk and the precision of Nozel's Mercury Quirk would be of use in dealing with the hordes of corpses.
That just left the Golden Dawn, who had the most members present even with Shiren remaining behind to coordinate them so they'd been dispatched to the worst area. This was based on what Shiren was seeing in his model along with the fire and corpse reports that were coming in.
This was a piece of cake for them seeing as Alecdora's sand could easily douse flames while Hamon's Verre Spectaculaire Quirk and Klaus's Steel Creation Quirk could cause enough damage to the corpses to keep them down though they did have to decimate them to do so. Add in that Klaus's Quirk could create crude barriers for civilians to get behind and use as a path to escape they had things going well in the large square that they'd ended up in.
That just left Yuno and Mimosa who were on support. They'd been granted permission to use their Quirks but Alecdora, who'd taken command of their group, ordered that they only use their Quirks to facilitate an evacuation and only because Starforce had a transportation aspect to it that couldn't even Alecdora's pride couldn't ignore. That and Mimosa's plants helped keep order and calm people down as she could make some with very pleasing smells which soothed those who were getting antsy.
That had really helped at the start when Yuno had had to use his Quirk to travel to the designated safe zone to set up a transport start there and connect it to the one where he and Mimosa were. That was when the most civilians were present and the danger was greatest so Mimosa's plants were vital then.
Once the stars were set up, however, things began to go smoothly. Alecdora was putting out fires by smothering them with sand and occasionally using his sand to slow down the walking corpses though he wasn't great at dispatching them with his Quirk while Klaus and Hamon decimated them with steel and glass, Mimosa and Yuno made sure the civilians were safely evacuated.
Overall they were working like a well-oiled system that showed the skills and prestige of the Golden Dawn Squad for all to see and the civilians were grateful for that. The fact that it was the Golden Dawn only adding to their reassurance and as such things were going very smoothly for the Quirk Knights.
Of course all this was part of Patry's overall plan that he'd instructed Valtos to carry out while Rades ran rampant with his corpses and Catherine appeared halfway through to add another angle of chaos to the mix. All of this was possible because Patry had been been privy to the information on the reception and knew that there would be several Squads there so had instructed Valtos to unleash the bulk of Rades's corpses in specific locations in Hosu to draw the various Squads there and then get rid of them.
The rational was simple, the less Quirk Knights present the better as far as Patry was concerned. He'd leave the normal pros alone as he expected Roman to uphold his side of the deal and released Grimm into the city. As for Shigaraki, well it had been unclear if he'd help but thanks to Stain he was going to and that just added to everything that Patry was planning as it all aided his goals for the night.
Valtos, who didn't know that Patry was Master Licht's real name or that the whole Licht thing was a front for Patry and his top officers' revenge, understood the plan perfectly and was on point to execute it while Patry waited in the designated location for the main even. As he did the normal heroes would be overrun by corpses, Grimm, and whatever Shigaraki brought to bear while the Quirk Knights were spared for the most part but suffered a major loss while their Headquarters were destroyed.
The result of all of this would be a devastating blow to the powers that be and shake the foundations of this rotten society as Valtos saw it so he had would happily execute the plan. The fact that Stain was also here only added to everything though Valtos paid the Hero Killer no mind as he focused on his own role in the plan.
Naturally, Master Licht in his infinite wisdom had coordinated it so that Valtos would be in the right spot to send the various Quirk Knight groups away when the opening presented itself and so he stood there watching and waiting for the moment, even giving Rades the instruction to head to the rendezvous point when he was found out so as to draw Fuegoleon to it without having to wait longer for him to find Rades. Well that and he wasn't ready yet as he needed the Quirk Knights to have cleared enough of an area that no corpses or civilians were drawn into his Quirk.
Finally, and not long after Rades's call, Valtos saw the opening that Master Licht had told him would be there. Smiling at his Master's wisdom, Valtos raised his hands and connected to the spots that he'd marked and activated Spatial Void.
"Begone Quirk Knights." Valtos called out to the night as midnight purple circles appeared below the various Quirk Knight groups that he'd targeted. "And come back to see a city that you failed to protect in ruins, your precious headquarters destroyed, and one of your vaulted Captains slain."
At that cones of midnight purple shot into the air and roiled there for a few moments while news choppers recorded the footage before they vanished taking the Quirk Knights caught up on them over 300 kilometers away and dropping them off in a Grimm infested area that was in the middle of nowhere. With that done, Valtos made another Spatial Void in front of him and leapt through it as he traveled to a building that would look over where Rades was ready to help his partner out and deal with Fuegoleon when the
Yuno saw the midnight purple circle appear below his feet just as the last of the civilians that were able to evacuate on their own went through his star though he kept it just in case there were others hiding or who needed help evacuating. However, the circle changed things especially because he began to sink into it, as did Mimosa, Klaus, Hamon, and Alecdora along with the steel barriers Klaus had created.
This wasn't good and while it wasn't misty like Asta had described, Yuno was sure that it was a Warp or Spatial Quirk in action. As such, and knowing that he had limited time to act, Yuno made a transport star in front of himself and another one above a nearby roof and grabbed it just as his knees reached the top of the circle he was sinking into.
"What is this?" Alecdora asked angrily as he blasted the void with sand only for it to vanish without affecting it. "It's sucking us in."
"I don't know but it certainly isn't elegant." Hamon said as he created a sword of glass in the air and thrust it down but it too vanished into the Quirk. "It seems to be eating my Quirk so it's either some form of destruction or spatial Quirk."
"It's a warp gate or something similar!" Yuno shouted from the roof he was on causing them all to turn. "Grab my stars! They'll get you safely out of whatever that is."
At that Yuno created transport stars in front of the other four but before they could grab them the circle erupted and Yuno was forced to take a step back as a roiling cone of midnight purple void appeared before his eyes. It died down a moment later and when it did Yuno didn't see anyone. Worse, it had taken his stars with it and they were out of his range meaning that they'd been transported at least 10 kilometers away and that was only if Yuno had placed the star in the location in the first place.
This wasn't good, Yuno was now potentially alone as he'd noticed out of the corners of his eyes at least two other cones had been formed which meant that at least two of the other three groups had been affected as well. Well that just meant that Yuno would have to just do whatever he could to help the citizens of Hosu, he was a Quirk Knight intern after all.
It didn't help that a second later a cackling sound reached his ears along with the screams of civilians indicating that there was a fresh attack going on nearby. Yuno knew that he shouldn't engage a villain without some kind of supervision but he had to help out so he created two attack stars and leapt onto them before flying to the sounds of civilians in need.
As he did, he hoped that everyone was ok but his gut told him that Asta at least had avoided this attack thanks to his swords so he, and anyone with him for that matter, would be fine. No doubt Asta was right in the thick of it, maybe even facing the villain behind the corpses, and that just motivated Yuno to work harder as he flew off to lend his aid not sure what he'd be facing when he got there as the chaos continued around him unabated.
"There!" Noelle said as she and Nero ran and a burning light came into view above and in front of them. "That has to be Fuegoleon."
Nero nodded as she tracked the underbelly of a large, burning, lion that had leapt over the wide street they were running along from one side to the other before it began to bound over the nearby rooftops while not igniting any flames. Noelle was right, that had to be Fuegoleon and the girls ran after him as hard as they could. As they did they saw a spiral of flames shoot into the air ahead and a few streets to the left of the lion. Noelle knew that power as well.
"That has to be Leo's Quirk." Noelle said as they ran. "But where is that coming from?"
"Toss me your phone, I'll check." Nero said. "Mine's broken after that water so I can't look at the maps of the area."
"Sorry for that, I'll get you a new one." Noelle said as she reached into a pouch on her belt and pulled out her phone which had a silver case emblazoned with her family's crest in pink on the back. "Here."
"Thanks and it's not your fault but I could use a decent one as the one the school provided me wasn't great." Nero said as Noelle unlocked her phone and tossed it to Nero who caught it with ease as she ran next to Noelle. "I'll check the area; you just keep tracking the Vermillion brothers."
"On it." Noelle said as she followed the glowing lion and noted that it turned towards the spiral flames causing them to rush over a street and that's when Noelle noticed it. "Er, it's going into an area of dense buildings."
"Makes sense, from what I'm seeing on the map Hosu is filled with back alleys." Nero said as she locked Noelle's phone and tossed it back to her, she'd only checked the map app and other than various apps to help Noelle maintain her language skills or monitor her school work and training there really wasn't much on the phone though Nero knew that Noelle's personal contact list was at best only slightly larger than hers. "We'll just have to navigate the best we can to find them but if Vermillion Leo is there then I bet Asta's right with him. He did charge after Asta after all so if anyone's managed to meet up with Asta it's him."
"Of course Leo would be with him and knowing Asta he's in one of the most dangerous places in Hosu so we have to get there before he finds a new way to get himself killed, again." Noelle said as they turned into the very alleyway that Asta had used only a few moments prior. "I will not let that moron die on me, especially right after he almost did two days ago. We just need to follow the sounds of fighting or look for fire and we'll find them."
Nero agreed with that as she didn't have anything to add to Noelle assessment, though unlike Noelle her own feelings were purely platonic, as the girls hurried into the back alleys of Hosu trailing Fuegoleon who was himself trailing Leo's wake and Leo was about to reach Asta and the villain behind the corpses. None of them knew what they were about to run into as they worked through the alleyways and towards where Leo and Asta had ended up.
"I'll admit, I was expecting a Quirk Knight or even a pro hero to track me down eventually." Rades said as he began to play for time a bit and decided to go for taunts to rile up the boys that were before him. "But come on, two clear students and one of you with the Black Bulls, really?"
"Yes really, we're going to beat you for all the pain and suffering you've caused." Asta said as he hefted his sword and leveled it at Rades. "This is your one chance to avoid any pain."
"Also my rival Asta here may be a Black Bull intern but he's the first year runner up from the recent U.A. Sports Festival." Leo said. "So I wouldn't underestimate him if I were you."
"Please, a lion cub with a one trick Quirk and a puny Black Bull with a rusty old sword." Rades said laughing now as he got into his taunts, his confidence growing as he realized that they were students. "Do you really believe that the pair of you stand a chance against my corpse army? The fire may have burned some but the others are just fine, see."
At that Rades waved his hand but the handful of corpses that weren't burnt to ash didn't respond to his command. That confused him and he tried again but again the corpses didn't get up and attack the boys, which was Rades's plan until Valtos arrived to create a void that would allow Rades bring in backup from one of the corpse stashes that hadn't been used for this attack. However, the corpses weren't getting up and surprising the brats which confused and worried Rades.
"If you're trying to command your zombies to get up and attack us, that won't work." Asta said grinning. "They're no longer under your control. If you want to regain control you're going to have to do whatever it is that you did to gain control of them in the first place."
"Huh but how could…wait did you say runner up in the U.A. Sports Festival?" Rades asked though it was rhetorical as the answer hit him as he spoke. "Damn it, you're that Anti-Quirk freak that I heard about, what are you doing here? You're not supposed to be in Hosu right now."
"Well I am and at the personal invitation of the Wizard King thanks to a recent mission on my internship no less." Asta said. "So I'm here and once I hit you with this sword I'll nullify your Quirk what with your Quirk Factor being you're whole body. Well I presume that your whole body is your Quirk Factor and if not I'll just prod you with my sword until I find it. What happens then I wonder."
"Damn you, your freak of nature!" Rades shouted as Asta and Leo began to approach again. "Nullifying Quirks should be against the laws of nature in this day and age; you and that pro Eraser Head are abominations."
"Coming from a necromancer that's saying something." Leo said. "I've never seen a Quirk that can raise the dead, that's just freaky."
"I prefer the term Wraith Lord but an elite like you just proved my point as to why this whole corrupt, rotten, society needs to be torn down." Rades said and as he spoke a pair of midnight purple voids appeared on either side of him causing him to grin. "People like you have always looked down on unnatural Quirks like mine and discriminated against us simply because of our Quirks. Well I'm going to put an end to that but for now you'll get to experience more of my corpses. Let's see you handle these. Kill them!"
At that Rades cackled as more than 50 corpses shuffled out and into the vacant lot. The sheer number forced Asta and Leo to back up with Leo blasting fire at them but only a few at the front went down as now they were moving out of the way of the fire as much as possible thanks to Rades's direct commends while the rest of the corpses kept coming. As they did, even more joined them, more than enough to overwhelm the boys.
"That's it, finish them!" Rades shouted gleefully. "Show them…"
Before Rades could finish, and just as a rend appeared in the air next to Asta and he withdrew his normal sword ready to rush in and spin with both swords out in a whirlwind of metal to sever as many of the corpses from the villain's control as possible while Leo picked off what he could, a massive gout of flame shot down from above. It was an intense, searing, blast that stayed away from Asta and Leo but still forced them back even more while reminding Asta of Todoroki's Quirk only somehow hotter and more controlled than what Todoroki could produce.
Naturally, the corpses didn't stand a chance and in quick order they were reduced to cinders in a single strike. To add to it all, the fire died out completely when the last of corpses burnt up leaving only ash in their wake though Asta got the sense that this wasn't Todoroki's father's power.
"Reduced to cinders in a single blow." Rades said his eyes wide. "How? That wasn't Endeavor's flames so what?"
"It was him." Valtos whispered in his ear via the com device there as a figure landed on the ground in front of Asta and Leo though neither had seen where he'd come from. "It's almost time. Let him get close and then I'll act. Once he's gone, I'll send you back as well."
Rades grit his teeth, he still had carnage to wreak, but so long as he was conscious and not touched by those swords his corpses would still rampage based on their final orders, which were to kill everyone in Hosu. This was the real goal of the mission, the goal that Rades's revenge was the cover for, and he just had to deal with it as the tall man with long orange hair and a red robe stood before him and he'd be able to leave the rest to his corpse army.
"Asta, Leo, I apologize for interfering in your fight but it was necessary." Fuegoleon said as he stood between Asta, Leo and the villain. "I may have granted you authorization but even so, you two shouldn't be fighting with your Quirks in a situation like this as you're not properly licensed so could cause unintended problems. While I'm sure that we'll be able to smooth anything out once this is over due to Julius's sway, both me and Yami will likely have some fines to pay for any damage that you've already caused due to excessive recklessness. That and I believed that fine aspiring Quirk Knights like you two shouldn't be killed before your promising careers begin."
"Sir?" Asta asked surprised as he felt that he could have taken the zombies.
"Brother…" Leo began but Fuegoleon cut both of them off.
"Forgive me you two but that is the truth as the numbers were too great for you both to safely fight off in a confined space such as this." Fuegoleon said. "You've done well, many lives have been saved thanks to you and your Quirks are some of the best for handling these corpses. You also showed good judgment tonight in avoiding the other threats out there that you could not handle and sticking to what you were best suited to face. On top of it, you found the mastermind behind the corpses, you should be proud of yourselves."
"Th, thanks." Asta said.
"I must admit though, I am envious of Yami." Fuegoleon said his eyes never leaving Rades's, his gaze keeping the man in place though he was unaware of the overall plan that Rades's attack was merely the cover for. "I too saw the potential that you had in the Sports Festival and offered you an internship but you turned me down for Yami, a decision that still surprises me but my loss is his gain and I do not doubt that he will be able to maximize your potential."
"Well Noelle could only join the Black Bulls while Nero would only stick with me so we all accepted Captain Yami's offer." Asta said simply. "I wasn't going to leave my friend behind when she had no other options. Plus I like fighting with Noelle and Nero so it made sense for all of us to stay together."
"She has a good and loyal partner I see, that is commendable and will serve you all well." Fuegoleon said unaware that Noelle and Nero were now behind Asta and Leo and had heard everything, Asta's words causing Noelle to go bright red and get flustered much to Nero's amusement. "Yami's gained some strong recruits in all three of you but he's always had a good knack for picking or finding hidden talent. I will have to praise him when I next see him but for now, allow me to subdue this villain and then you can use your sword on him, that is a must given the nature of your Quirk."
"Y, yes sir." Asta said seriously.
"Oh and Asta, earlier you said that you planned on becoming the Wizard King just like Leo does, right?" Fuegoleon asked. "You were rather insistent about that during the reception if I recall."
"Say what?" Rades asked finally speaking. "You think that some freak of nature who's going to join the Black Bulls can rise to the top of your order? Just because you can nullify Quirks doesn't make you special. All you are is a brutish, brainless, and clearly lowborn brat, you'll never amount to anything in that elitist order. I was expelled simply because I was a handy scapegoat for my corrupt Captain what with how my Quirk is perceived, the fact that I didn't go to some fancy Hero School, and that I'm just some hick from the countryside. The Quirk Knights will never accept you just as they never accepted me so I'll destroy them and this whole rotten society!"
"I will be the Wizard King." Asta said seriously ignoring the villain as he replied to Fuegoleon. "Nothing will stop me from becoming it."
"I can hear the conviction in your voice." Fuegoleon said as he turned his head back and gave Asta a serious look. "Well then, it would seem that I too am your rival for the next Wizard King will be me."
"You, a member of one of the three Great Houses that founded the Quirk Knights, recognize that brat." Rades said as Asta gasped while Leo grinned at his brother's proclamation knowing that it was serious as Fuegoleon took a few steps forward towards the villain behind the attack on Hosu, well the corpse part of the attack at least. "Well whatever, looks like I'm going to be honored by facing the Captain of the Crimson Lion Kings, Leo Rex himself, Fuegoleon Vermillion."
"If you had not relied on an overwhelming number of your corpse puppets you would have been defeated by my brother and Asta, merely stepped in both to prevent that and for the sake of their promising futures." Fuegoleon said as he held out his hands and fire poured off them. "My flames just did what they will be able to do in time. Now I will take you in."
At that the fire morphed and formed into two burning lions complete with full manes, tails, claws, and snarling jaws. The ground, however, wasn't burnt by them as they walked over it and unlike the one prior that Noelle and Nero had seen, which was as large as a truck, these were more standard sized lions. Asta had never seen them before and he had stars in his eyes as the lions slowly padded forward in symmetric arcs and closed in on Rades while blocking off his escape routes should he opt to leap over the smoldering remains of Leo's earlier flames that were still between him and two of the lot's exits.
As they did, Fuegoleon held out his hands before him and formed two more lions that walked towards Rades completely boxing him in. They may not be burning the ground but they produce a lot of heat which in turn heated up the air around the villain and he began to labor in his breathing as sweat started to run down his face.
"Damn your brother's Quirk is so cool!" Asta said. "What is it?"
Fuegoleon Vermillion, Quirk: Fire Lions. Fuegoleon can create and control male lions made out of pure fire. These lions are everything like the creatures they're based off, only they can also breath fire, slash with flaming claws, and their sizes vary depending on what Fuegoleon is using them for.
In addition, while they can be hot, Fuegoleon can make them such that they won't burn people so as to use them for transportation or to capture villains. Conversely, he can increase their temperature to degrees even Endeavor couldn't withstand. There is also currently no known limit on either the size or the quantity of lions that Fuegoleon can make though there has to be such a limit which he's no doubt guarding closely.
"Cool right, my bro can create lions made out of fire and manipulate them in more ways than I can count." Leo said grinning at the sight of the four lions. "It's something our family can do every few generations. Most of us tend to have more straightforward fire Quirks that are really powerful like my spirals or the sheer devastative amount of fire that my sister can create away from her body but Fuegoleon got the control and finesse aspect of the family's Quirk. Add in that apparently his teacher had a similar Quirk and she was really good and strict and there's a reason why he's the Captain. Well that and my sister doesn't want the gig but she's, er, unique."
"Right got it." Asta said as the lions closed in on Rades who was now panting heavily from the heat. "So I take it that this is some kind of tactic."
"Yes, some fights can be won without striking your opponent, which for me can be good as my Quirk can cause serious damage if I'm not careful." Fuegoleon said simply. "Right now my lions are emitting a temperature well above what a standard human can endure for long, any who are too close will pass out in moments and with four there is no escape for this villain."
"Well I guess you live up to your reputation and here I thought that I'd at least take out a few of you Quirk Knights before I reached this point." Rades said as he began to gasp from the heat and lack of oxygen around him. "Still, so long as I'm standing my corpses won't stop so my revenge is still going strong."
"That too will end soon but before you pass out and we stop all your corpses, tell me who your accomplice is." Fuegoleon said. "An attack of this magnitude would require a warping power to pull off so quickly and efficiently so who is it? Is it that Warp Villain that attacked the USJ or someone else? Are you a part of the League of Villains?"
"It's not the mist guy." Asta called out from behind Fuegoleon. "I saw his Quirk when the League of Villains attacked us and while the weird warp gates that just sent zombies at us was roughly the same color it lacked the mist. I think it's someone else."
"I see that makes things worse, one villain with a Warping or Spatial Quirk is bad enough but two is unthinkable given the close eye the HPSC keeps on such Quirks." Fuegoleon said as he looked at Rades. "So where is your partner? Has he already escaped and abandoned you to your fate or is he lurking somewhere nearby?"
Rades didn't say anything to that, he just stared at Fuegoleon as he stopped panting and smirked at the Quirk Knight Captain. He wasn't going to say anything about Valtos, his focus was keeping Fuegoleon in place while Valtos got ready for a quick Spatial Void as they'd only get one shot at this.
"Very well, if you won't tell me who your accomplice is before I bring you in then how about you tell me what motives are?" Fuegoleon asked. "I get the impression based off your earlier comments that this is personal for you in some regard but you can't pull off an attack like this on your own, you need a backer to help you procure all these corpses and transport them. That and given this attack's audacity there has to be a larger purpose to it. Why else would they back someone like you unless your interests helped them out with theirs? You supply the Quirk while your backer gives you your army and the means of transporting it here so what is it that you are after?"
At that Rades began to laugh, which caused him to sway from the heat exhaustion he was dealing with. Still, it was the perfect thing for him to respond to to throw Fuegoleon off while also giving Valtos the signal to act. They were villains after all, there had to be some sense of theatrics to the whole thing.
"So you want to know what we're after here besides my own personal revenge on the Quirk Knights for how they treated me?" Rades asked as everyone looked at him. "Very well, I'll tell you. It's you! We're after you Fuegoleon Vermillion and you played right into our trap!"
"Wait why my brother?" Leo asked as Rades devolved into maniacal laughter. "What do you want with him?"
"Yes, why me?" Fuegoleon asked. "What could…"
Before Fuegoleon could finish asking his questions a midnight purple circle appeared beneath his feet before it shot up in roiling spikes around him. Everyone gasped at that but before they could act Fuegoleon spoke.
"Stand back, this was clearly their plan all along, a trap to ensnare me that I've walked into as this is clearly some kind of Spatial or Warp Quirk." Fuegoleon said his tome serious and calm. "I'll make sure that their trap fails and get to the bottom of this terrorist attack. You have my permission to use your Quirks to take out this villain and end the threat that his corpses pose this city."
With that the spires closed in on Fuegoleon to form a multi leveled cone that then shrank down transported him away while the four lines puffed out in small flames. Leo shouted out to his brother but it was no good, he was gone as Rades continued laughing at how smoothly their plan to trap and send Fuegoleon off to his death had gone.
"Why you!" Asta roared as he leapt off the ground and charged across the lot at Rades his swords at the ready as he ran. "I'll make sure that you don't get away!"
"Too late brat." Rades said as the same midnight purple disk appeared underneath him and began to climb up the way it had with Fuegoleon. "I'm gone but my corpses will continue in my stead as I've given them a command so I don't need to be around to see them carry it out. Bye…"
Before Rades could finish Asta let out a roar as he realized that he wouldn't get there in time so he set himself before he tossed his standard sword with his left hand from over his shoulder. It flew through the air and slammed into ground that was covered in the warp gate or whatever the Quirk user called his or her Quirk, cutting through it, and ending the Quirk much to Rades's and Valtos's shock though none of them could see the latter as he was up on one of the roofs looking down at the scene below him.
"A Warp Quirk is still a Quirk!" Asta yelled as he reached Rades and swung his great sword. "Now take this!"
Rades tried to leap back but there was a wall there and so he couldn't evade. The only thing that saved him from taking the sword to the side of the head and being knocked out was that Asta had tried and failed to gage the distance what with the wall there as well and so rather than hit Rades, the tip sliced along his right cheek just below his eye and cut it open as it had been the tip of the sword.
That was still more than enough and as Rades screamed in pain and raised his hand to his bleeding cheek, his connection to all his corpses was severed. As a result they immediately dropped where they were all over Hosu much to the surprise of the heroes who were still fighting them.
"That hurt!" Rades roared fury and pain in his voice. "You bastard! That really hurt!"
"Your whining over a little cut?" Asta asked as another warp gate appeared this time beneath his feet as Valtos decided that it would be easier to send Asta away to where the other Quirk Knights were than to save Rades right now, he could do that in a moment. "After all the pain that you've just caused the people of this city? You don't have the right to complain about a little pain after that. I'll show you pain!"
With that Asta slammed his great sword into the ground destroying the spatial void that was forming there before it could take him away. With that done, Asta proceeded to punched the villain in the face as hard as he could causing Rades to slam against the wall with his head snapping back and into it with a loud thud.
Asta roared and punched again only this time Rades ducked causing Asta to punch the building behind him instead which cut up his hand and bruised it but thankfully he didn't break it. That was all that Rades needed as he turned and bolted off towards one of the side alleys, leaping over the still smoldering remains of Leo's flames as he did. Valtos just sighed where he was and followed him from the rooftops knowing that one of the Master's top lieutenants could send the remains of Fuegoleon back while he saved Rades.
"Hey, I'm not done with you!" Asta roared as he turned and sprinted off after the villain, leaping over the flames as well. "Come back here and take your beating like a man you damned coward!"
"Asta wait!" Noelle cried as Asta's swords vanished showing that he'd dismissed them. "You hit him with your sword, you don't need to follow him when there are other things to deal with. Come back her you idiot!"
"Huh, wait when did you get her Noelle?" Leo asked turning to see Noelle and Nero stepping forward to stand next to him. "And, er…"
"Nero." Nero said simply.
"Right, Nero." Leo said.
"Shortly after your brother but we held back as he clearly had the situation under control, well until that Spatial Quirk user acted." Noelle said in response to Leo's question. "And now Asta's gone and we could use his help. There are other problems going on in Hosu right now and if the corpses are down then we should go and see where we can help. We'll need his power."
"Right let's…" Leo began but before he could finish another midnight purple warp gate appeared this time from above their heads and a body fell out of it, landing on the ground with a thud.
Instantly Leo fell silent, his eyes wide as the body was Fuegoleon's and he didn't look good as his face was pale and eyes open and vacant. The reason for that became clear a moment later as blood suddenly began to pool around him and they could see that his right arm had been cut off at the shoulder.
"Fuegoleon?" Leo asked his eyes wide as Nero leapt forward the moment she saw the blood.
"Nero!" Noelle shouted as she followed her friend and classmate. "Can you do anything about this?"
"It's a missing limb so I'm not sure how much I can actually do but I'll do what I can." Nero said as she leapt over Fuegoleon's body and turned in the air before falling to her knees ignoring that she was kneeling in his blood as she pressed her now glowing hands to the wound there. "If this was a break or a laceration I could easily heal him but the best that I can manage is sealing up the burst arteries, veins and what other blood vessels. That will stop the external bleeding at least but he needs medical attention right away. I can't redirect the blood inside him so he's going to have some serious internal bleeding."
"He's still alive then?" Noelle asked as she knelt down on Fuegoleon's other side while Nero worked, her hands and arms up to her mid forearms now red with blood but she paid that no heed. "And can be saved, right?"
"Yes." Nero said answering both questions with a single word before adding. "And my Quirk will prolong his survival chances but I don't know by how long. He needs professional help immediately."
"Leo, snap out of it and call this in!" Noelle shouted looking over at Leo who was staring blankly at everything. "Leave Asta for now, he can handle that villain and he'll make him pay but right now we need to save your brother!"
"Right, sorry." Leo said snapping out of his shock at Noelle's words and pulling out his phone to instant dialed the emergency number for immediate medical assistance. "Thanks."
Nero just grunted as she worked while Noelle pulled out something to help try and staunch the bleeding that Nero couldn't stop that she began to wrap it around the missing arm while Leo frantically called the situation in as a top priority. As she did Noelle couldn't help but mutter to herself about the situation unaware of the notification from Midoriya that she got as she worked on Fuegoleon's arm.
"How could tonight possibly get worse."
A bit abrupt and a slight cliffhanger but I feel like this is a good spot to end this slightly chaotic chapter on. It's a fair bit different to how it went down in Black Clover, the Rades stuff at least, but still has the core concept of it I feel and that was important in adapting the Capital attack into this story and pairing it with the Hero Killer arc so hopefully it's worked well. Anyway, thanks to mainly Rades's but also Shigaraki's actions we've seen a good bit of the early chaos go down in Hosu, even had an Izuku cameo, and things are set up nicely for a few other aspects of the adaptation of the Hero Killer arc with the new franchises that are still to come as I know y'all are waiting for a certain upcoming moment. Don't worry, the first part has been set in motion and now it's time to get the next bit in motion which means seeing what Noelle was mentioning and going down below Hosu and wrapping up what's occurring down there. Stay tuned as the chaos continues but for now that's all that I have for y'all so I will leave this chapter off here. If you like this story please follow, favorite (this story and me) to keep up with it and leave a review or PM; your support is what helps motivate me to keep up this work and any questions posed before the next chapter is uploaded I will try to answer. Until next time.
