Chapter 14 – Like a Demon
As she was exposed to an aura she never felt before, A pair of Amethyst eyes glowed in
the dark there was no shine on them. As lifeless as rugged stone.
"Emilia-sama?" Ram asked Emilia, still confused but still cautious over her every small
move.
"Ram" Emilia replied as a single tear was shed.
"It's over" She added further.
As Ram's face turned into an expression of shock and concern for her.
"Emilia-sama, what do you mean by its over?" She questioned her to make sense of the
sudden outburst of Emilia.
"I am a failure; He believed in me as he kept calling my name"
"Emilia-tan"
"Emilia-tan Emilia-tan, He kept on calling for me"
"But my ears turned deaf to his pleas as I pushed his pleas away and labeled him as a
stranger" She cried as she confessed.
The temperature began to fall as she began to accept her loss and held herself
accountable. She began to realize how selfish she was, a man like Subaru who selflessly
aided her in most of the things and she made him wait for her heart to accept his love.
She was prepared knowing that she is an Elf she would one day outlive her own allies,
even if she was a Half-Elf, she still had Elf blood in her which would not change the
conclusion she made up in her mind. she never prepared herself to lose someone in such a
way, she was disgusted by the witch cult even more now, and she hated herself for
allowing herself to fall prey to such tricks.
But deep down she knew even if the witch cult did Orchestrate the events, it was her who
has Subaru blood on her hands, she didn't ask the boy for more information even after
Ram was suspicious of him knowing too much about the camp, more than an outsider or
civilian.
Ram came close to Emilia silently as she wasn't sure what to even say to her, she wasn't
the best in terms of expressing her emotions, which resulted in people less familiar with
her misunderstanding her.
To cause less misunderstanding she stopped being vocal about her opinions altogether
until it was really needed for her to.
"If only he was here" Ram spoke as she pictured the raven-haired youth.
"Nee-sama"
Her mind recalled the image of Subaru smiling, as she teased him verbally.
Her Head felt a sharp pain as her memories rewrote themselves as well like the others,
she held her head as she sat down due to the pain.
"Ram?" Emilia, with a faint worried expression, walked closer to her as she hesitated and
held back her hand. She was scared and afraid. She thought if she associated herself too
much with someone, they all will eventually move towards the path of their doom just like
Subaru.
She went silent as she faced down towards the floor. She felt like she was back to square
one.
Ram slowly recovered from the headache as she was able to piece it all together. She bit
lips so hard that it started to bleed. She accused him of being a spy, even though he had
hopes that his friends would remember him.
She recalled his face when his last hope was crushed as he pleaded her to recall him.
"I am butler under the Margrave manor"
"Remember me Ram"'
She clenched her fists more and more as she recalled those memories, "how could I betray
him after all the trust he had for me". she held dear to like a little brother only to put
him in the same category as those vile and filthy witch cultists and drove him towards his
end.
"Ram!" Ram snapped out of it slightly as she still was ridden with guilt as she heard
Emillia call for her.
"Are you ok?" Emilia asked as she finally calmed down and understood how her sudden
outburst caused problems for everyone, she was about to repeat the same mistake like the
time when she froze the Elior forest.
But even so deep within her she still held the grudge over her knights torturers.
"Ram, would you please hold Subaru for me, we need to get him back to the manor" She
requested Ram.
As soon as she heard what Emilia meant her face immediately made an expression similar
to one, she would make if she lost her sister Rem. She knew it the moment he was taken
away by the royal knights, but she still held hopes to not lose her calm like Emilia.
As She moved closer to the body, her hands hesitated at first, but she grabbed his hand
and brought it closer, she adjusted her eyes as the hallway was completely dark. Her
composure broke.
As her eyes witnessed the horror of the aftermath of the continues torture the boy had to
go through. Her bright pink eyes started to go hazy as tears built up.
The once healthy, Silly and Naïve youth. The one whom she deeply cherished, Afterall he
unfroze her time by bringing her and Roswaal to understand each other.
As She gently held his Arm and brought it closer to her tears flowed down her cheeks, His
arms were completely riddled with scars and was skinny. At first, she couldn't believe it
was Subaru.
"Baru…."
"Barusu" She whispered to herself.
As She barely managed to gain back control of her emotions she asked, "Where is
Beatrice-sama?"
Ram looked at Emillia as Emillia frowned and looked away.
Emilia felt worse for her actions, she let her anger play the judge. Ram immediately
understood by her body language. She wanted to help Beatrice but, in her mind, she was
conflicted "Why should I help her, she was the one to point out the miasma lingering
around him" She thought to herself.
As Beatrice slowly gained control of her emotions, she looked at her surroundings.
She quickly analyzed the situation as she drained the mana of the unconscious knights. It
wasn't enough for her, but she needed it. Her current priority was to bring Subaru safely
back to the Manor.
She walked out of the cell as she gave a last look feeling the air inside the cell gave her
the creeps, "To imagine he had to bear this for so long" her expression turned into a
frown.
She then looked at the unconscious Julius that made her blood boil, but she ignored him,
"This is not the right time" She spoke to herself as she made her way down the hallway.
"We need Beatrice-sama's help to bring Barusu safely to the manor" Ram spoke as she
looked straight into Emilia's eyes. Emilia looked troubled and guilty.
"We can drown in self-loathing later, I suppose" Beatrice spoke out loud grabbing both of
their attention.
"Beatrice-sama!"
"I know, there is no other way, I suppose" Beatrice spoke cutting Ram off.
"After this idiot of a Half-Elf made such a big outburst, The guards must be on alert by
now, I suppose" She spoke as she glared at Emilia.
Emilia, unable to look at her eyes, only focused on Subaru as she tightened her grip on her
sleeves.
Beatrice opened her door crossing connecting the Manor as Ram and Emilia held Subaru's
Body close and travelling to the manor.
As They all made it back to the Manor The lights made Subaru's horrifying state clearer.
Ram couldn't bear to look at it as she didn't want to accept, Subaru stated. She made up
and excuse to inform the other camp members as she ran out the door. Emilia looked at
her with a sad frown as She understood clearly. She never saw Ram so emotional.
As Emillia followed her out the door to calm her nerves down. She didn't want to cause
another outburst like she did in the prison.
As they both left Beatrice looked at Subaru's Corpse, She ruffled his hair. Her face turned
into a determined look as she then started searching from her collection of Grimoires.
She desperately searched for a way possible to somehow bring him back to life. "There
has to be"
"It can't be"
"Mother greed won't let her stay in the dark over such a possible outcome, I suppose" She
spoke as she desperately threw books here and there searching for the right one.
Her hand stopped Shuffling as a certain diary came into her sights.
She picked it up and read the title "Betty's endless story book" Her eyes were staring to
gain the shine back slowly as she flipped through the pages, She displayed a broken smile
as she recalled the beautiful memories she made with Subaru.
As she kept on reading and reminiscing, the stories came to an end. She kept on flipping
the pages and rereading them.
As she finally accepted it, she closed the diary as she scribbled the title "Betty's Endless
Storybook"
Meanwhile On the ground floor of the manor.
The blue-haired girl finally managed to stand up on her own after multiple failed
attempts.
Previously, no matter how many times she tried she stumbled back on her bed, she heard
loud noises coming from outside.
She checked her night gown and cleared off any wrinkles and proceeded to go out of her
room to find the source of the commotion.
