Disturbance
-What...what are you doing here...?
Sans was so astonished by the hooded figure standing in front of him that he couldn't even move.
-I can tell you are not very happy to see me.
Sans looked at her, still confused.
-Well...you have to agree, our last meeting wasn't ideal.
-You know I didn't act this way out of malice...right?
-Yes, I understand. You had to do this in order to save me. But the fact that you need to be here again...it troubles me.
-Why...?
-Because it means I've done something wrong. Something I need to fix.
-No, not really... I...I wanted to come here myself.
-I wish it was so. But, unfortunately...this can't be you. This is just a dream, isn't it? Which means that my subconscious created you in order to tell me something. Something I did wrong.
-It is a dream, indeed. But it's still the real me.
-But...it can't be... You... You are...
-Yes. I am dead indeed. My spirit isn't.
Sans looked down.
-Hey...call my name...like you used to do...
Sans looked at her ready to utter her name, but stopped.
-I haven't called your name in years...it feels kinda awkward.
-I see. she smiled bitterly, walking towards him. Guess I'm gonna have to wait then.
She sat down, next to Sans. Sans sat beside her.
-If this is really you...why did you not come earlier?
-You had to move on, didn't you? I couldn't just drag you down, you know. -Then why did you come again, after so many years?
-I did want to see you again. I've... I've missed you.
-Heh...I see. he chuckled. This feels...weird. I feel like my old wounds are reopening... I suddenly feel so...so nostalgic.
-I'm sorry... I should have known this was a bad idea.
She almost got up ready to leave, but Sans grabbed her hand.
-Stay.
-I shouldn't. My presence is only hurting you.
-Thing is though... I've missed you too...S...Serifa.
She looked at him with teary eyes. She noticed Sans was holding back some tears as well. Suddenly, they fell into each other's arms, holding tightly onto each other. Serifa burst into tears.
-Why did this have to happen to us? Why? We were so great together, so happy! We never hurt a soul! It's not fair, It's not fair, it's not fair!
Sans held her, letting a few tears fall.
-It's not fair... I know... But you taught me that, remember? You taught me how we can't always have what we want or what we deserve...
-I know, but it sucks! I hate this! I hate being all alone, I hate watching you from afar, unable to even talk to you! It hurts, Sans... It hurts... I never wanted to die! My life was awful and, just when it was getting better, I was left behind! God hates me, fate hates me, everything hates me!
Sans gently caressed her back.
-But I love you. I may have moved on, but I still cherish our moments together, our feelings for each other... I haven't erased all that.
-I'm not blaming you... I just... Sorry, I shouldn't have-
-It's alright, sweetheart. You, too, are human. You have the right to be weak at times...
Serifa held onto him tightly.
-I didn't think I'd get this emotional... But, talking to you again, after all these years...
-Shhh... It's alright...
-Thank you, Sans... Thank you...
-Sans! Sans! Wake up! You're gonna be late again!
Sans barely opened his eyes, still dizzy from his sleep.
-SANS! Papyrus screamed and pulled away the covers of his bed. WAKE UP!
-Huh...? Paps...?
-Are you still in dreamland? You have 15 minutes to get ready and go to work! You won't make it!
-Oh...
-''Oh''? ''OH''?! SANS! Do you understand the gravity of the situation?
-Alright, alright...
Sans reluctantly got up and prepared for work. Why did he have that dream? He had been fine. He had moved on. There had been almost twenty years since he last saw her. So why, why did he dream about Serifa again? What did his soul need comfort for?
He left the house in deep thought, without eating breakfast. Papyrus was confused, but figured out Sans was just in a hurry. He entered his car and drove to work.
-Will you be able to join us this Saturday?
-Of course I will! Toriel smiled. Alphys is like a daughter to me! I wouldn't miss her birthday!
-Everyone is like a son or daughter to you, Toriel! Undyne laughed. So...will you come alone, or with...company? she winked.
-C-Company? Toriel blushed a bit.
-Is Asgore coming with you? Come on Toriel, we all know you're back together at this point!
-Well, we are not exactly together... We're just...trying to make a fresh start, you know?
-Call it what you want, but the fact is, you two are together again!
-Hey, Undyne! Papyrus walked into Toriel's office. What are you doing here? We didn't expect you!
-Well, since I'm not working these days, I'm just fooling around. Greeting friends at work, going shopping...you know!
-How were the kids, Papyrus? Toriel asked.
-Naughty, as always! But worry not! For I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, have taught them well! They shall value duty and honor! And they will-
-They are KIDS, Paps. What on earth are you teaching them? Undyne chuckled.
-Don't worry, they love him! Papyrus is great with children!
-YES! I AM VERY GREAT INDEED!
-At any rate, I have one more lesson. Papyrus, you finished early today, so see you tomorrow!
-See you Toriel!
As Toriel left her office, Undyne's phone rang.
-Hey babe! What's up? Yes, why? Oh... Okay, we're coming.
-What happened?
-Is your phone off?
-Yes, I turn it off whenever I'm with the kids! I AM SO RESPONSIBLE!
-Well, Alphys has been calling you. There's been a small accident with Sans. Come on, let's hurry there.
When they arrived at Lionnite, they found Sans sitting on the stairs of the entrance. Alphys was sitting next to him. As Papyrus ran to him, he noticed a big scar next to his right eye socket.
-Sans! What happened? Your eye!
-It's nothing serious, Paps... Alphys needn't have worried you.
-That's what you say now, but you were screaming in pain a few minutes ago!
-Oh, don't exaggerate! It only hurt a bit at first, because I got surprised. I'm alright now.
-How did this happen? Undyne asked.
-Sans tried to combine potassium with nitric acid and-
-The simplified version, Alphys! Undyne interrupted.
-Well, he basically tried to mix two things shouldn't be combined and it exploded on his face.
-Why do you ALWAYS have to do dangerous experiments Sans? Papyrus complained.
-Actually...he didn't mean to do that. He just confused the chemicals he originally meant to combine.
-Sans made a mistake with chemistry? Well, that's a first! Undyne exclaimed.
-That's what happens when you aren't careful, brother!
-No, Paps, don't scold him! Alphys defended Sans. He is always way too careful in the Lab! I'm actually surprised this happened today... I've never seen Sans so distracted before...
-Ahem, I'm here too, you know! Sans coughed loudly.
-That's enough! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, will now return you home safely.
-No need. I have my scooter.
-No way am I letting you ride it injured!
-Oh, come on, and how am I supposed to come to work tomorrow?
-I'll drive you here. You aren't getting on this killing machine they call a vehicle today!
-I agree, Sans. Alphys mentioned you were distracted today. What if you doze off while riding? Undyne added.
-I guess you have a point... Sans sighed. But really guys, I'm fine. Thanks for worrying, but I can handle myself.
-And if you can't, worry not! For I, THE GREAT, THE ABSOLUTE, THE MAGNIFICENT PAPYRUS will take care of you!
-Welp, seems I'm in good hands then! Sans laughed and walked to the car with Papyrus.
The bell rang. Papyrus ran to the door to answer it.
-Hello! How're you doing Paps? Frisk smiled and hugged Papyrus.
-Hey there! Papyrus hugged her back. Sans didn't tell me you were coming! What subject is it this time?
-Math. Stupid math! I hate it! Math will destroy the world one day!
-Then I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, shall be its opponent! Papyrus laughed. Sans! Frisk is here for your lessons! Sans!
-Is he busy? Should I come over later?
-No, he's just feeling a bit off today. Sans!
Sans walked out of the kitchen.
-Oh, hey Frisk. Sorry for making you wait.
-''Hey Frisk''? What? Where's the ''what the hell are you wearing again'' part?
-I've seen you in worse outfits than this. And, I'm not in the mood, really.
-YOU are not in the mood to poke fun at my clothes? Something must be REALLY wrong with you! And what's with that scar on your face?
-Had an accident with chemicals today and they blew up on my face. It's no big deal.
-Oooh, maybe I shouldn't ask for your help in chemistry anymore then! Frisk chuckled.
Sans sighed.
-Whenever you're in the mood to start our lesson, come in.
He walked to the kitchen, leaving Papyrus and Frisk alone in the sitting room.
-Okay, what's up with him? He didn't even make a pun.
-Not sure... He's way too absorbed by his thoughts today. And yes, now that you mentioned it...he didn't make a single pun today...
-Did you have a fight or something?
-Well, nothing out of the ordinary... Maybe I've been scolding him too much lately... But it's for his own good!
-Try asking him about it then, I guess...
-I will. Come on now, you two gotta study. Don't wanna keep you.
-Seeya, OH GREAT PAPYRUS! Frisk chuckled and entered the kitchen, leaving behind a proudly grinning Papyrus.
Sans was looking lost in thought. Frisk sat next to him and grasped his shoulder.
-You know you can tell me everything...right?
-I told you I'm-
-Save it. I know something's bothering you, Sans.
-Look...it's not important. I can handle it. You don't have to worry. At least...not yet.
Frisk sighed.
-If it gets worse... I'm here for you. Everyone is here for you.
Sans smiled at Frisk and patted her head.
-Thanks, kiddo.
''So, how did it go?''
''I...didn't tell him.''
''I suppose it would sound bad if you asked him right after you saw him.''
''Probably.''
''Why do you look so grim?''
''I just... It felt so nostalgic talking to him again...''
''I understand.''
''I'm sorry. I don't think I can tell him after all.''
''Why so?''
''It makes me feel guilty.''
''Don't. It's still his decision to make anyway. You are only providing the information.''
''…''
''Don't you want a second chance? You definitely deserve one.''
''...I do.''
''Then don't be afraid to ask for it.''
