While walking home during a storm she stumbles upon a large golden retriever who seemed to be just as lost on the path of life as her...she had no idea his owner was just as lost, maybe together they could find their way...

Chapter One:

Kagome held the umbrella over her as she made her way through the backstreets so she could make it home faster. She lived in an apartment not far from where her family shrine was and had been caught in the storm while leaving said home after her obligatory monthly visit.

She hadn't lived there since the jewel was completed. Her family didn't approve of her choices she made, and she was fine with that. She did what she needed to do even if it meant they didn't approve. How could they expect her to just bounce back like nothing had happened?

Like the past five years events hadn't happened?

Vaguely she knew she was partly to blame, she had never told them the full truth of her adventures. Instead she gave them the glossed over G rated version. Knowing if she told them the explicit truth they would forbid her from going back and that was something she would not let happen.

She had responsibilities and people that were depending on her and if she just abandoned her quest those responsibilities would have to fall on to someone else and that would never set well with her. Her choices and the consequences of them should only ever have to rest on her shoulders.

She had smiled and gave her family a fairy tail when asked about her adventure, hiding wounds and stifling her cries in the middle of the night.

Now that she was once again in her original time it took everything in her to keep moving forward. To do anything less would be spitting on the memories of companions. Even though they had all survived the battle they were still lost to her due to times cold harsh grip.

Waking up every day to see the god tree looming over her home, scared bark, only reminded her daily of what she had lost. So she had gotten a job saved up and moved out, it had been hard with not having a diploma or a GED but it was nothing compared to the hardships she had faced in the past. She had a set of skills that were no longer in demand in a modern era but she was very good at adapting.

She currently worked at a flower shop part time and full time at a nearby cafe. It wasn't glamorous or fulfilling but it was a job. It kept a roof over her head and food in her belly while offering her the freedom from the shrine and all the memories it held.

Blinking out of her thoughts at the loud crack of thunder she paused hearing a low terrified whine. Her mind identified it as canine right away and with a sigh, cursing her soft spot for said species, she sought the source of the whimpering whine.

She had expected to come across a small pup, just another stray of the neighborhood packs, yet as she took in the large mass of shivering gold fur she could only blink. It was easy to tell it was an imported breed, Japan was known for its small and medium sized dogs like the Shikoku, Kishu, Kai, Hokkaido, Akita and Shiba Inu, so to see this large massive beast was a bit shocking.

Even so she was hard pressed to leave the poor thing, whimpering and alone. Sighing as she crouched before it, her umbrella held over them shielding them from the rain, as she gave a low croon. It was a soothing noise Sesshoumaru had often used on Rin after one of her nightmares, it was meant to offer comfort and put young pups at ease.

The mass shifted, a large head poking out to gaze up at her with fearful brown eyes. God, they reminded her of Rin when they had first merged packs. While normally cheerful the girl had been socially deprived of human contact, having the mindset of a demon due to her company, and had been so very afraid of anyone who wasn't part of her pack.

It had taken a lot of work but the young girl had quickly learned the social nuances needed to survive in both worlds. Seamlessly shifting between the two worlds in a way that made her proud, she knew the young girl and her adopted kit would help pave the way for better communication between the races.

Shoving the memories of long dead friends down she could only sigh as the shivering mass gave another low whimper. Giving a small grumble of acknowledgement in repose she slowly lifted a hand, letting the large wet nose sniff at it, her gaze not leaving his, letting it know she was an alpha. Not his alpha but an alpha nonetheless.

She was pleased when he lowered his gaze and his head, submitting to her superior class without a fight. Vocalizing this she let out a low hum as she let her fingers dance around his neck searching for a collar. She felt one buried under the thick fur and nodded to herself as she felt a name tag. At least she would be able to reunite the lost pup with its pack. Standing up she gave a low grunt, her head jerking as she indicated for the large mass to follow her.

"Come." It was a command that was quickly followed, the large dog falling step with her as his tail wagged. Mentally she groaned because she knew her landlady would no doubt grumble about the large wet dog, luckily he would not be a permanent addition to her home so she could deal with it for the few days it took her to reunite the dog and his master.

She had no idea just how wrong she was...
